Came on a weekend so I did expect it to be busy but we were sat within 5-10 minutes for a table of 4 on a Sunday around lunchtime. Restaurant is cute and has outdoor and indoor seating. Service was insanely slow and the food was just okay. Presentation was nice but flavors were subpar. Mostly Italian but did have other options (burger, chicken and waffles etc for brunch). Came here for the first time last week for a friend's birthday. We dined under the covered patio since I brought my dog, there were flies hovering our food which was a bit unpleasant but that's given our choice to sit outside. Service and servers were great. I didn't know what to expect with the food since I've never been. The mussels and bucatini were my favorites. The mussel broth was very tasty. It was a tomato broth but the tomato taste was not overpowering which I loved. The bucatini was in a carbonara sauce which normally can be quite salty to me. This one wasn't even with the pancetta. I've been to both locations in Austin, and they both are equally good. It gives you that authentic Italian feel and taste. I'm usually a heavy meat eater, but their ravioli is what sold me. The Caesar salad was good, but then again you can't really mess up a salad. And the pizza was one of my favorite things we ate. But I wasn't the biggest fan of the linguine. Zucchini chips were delicious. Chefs focaccia was ok. My sister liked it more than I did. My gnocchi with short rib ragu was delicious. The short rib was cut into very small pieces and some of those pieces had a little fat. It didn't bother me so much since it was only 2-3 pieces that had it. My sister had the taverna burger. Taverna is always great! I take visiting family and friends there every time. I enjoy the food, mimosas and the service. The breakfast plate is my go-to brunch dish. Eggs any style, bacon or sausage and breakfast potatoes. Wash it all down with a carafe of mimosas or bellinis. Underwhelmed. I asked for a recommended pasta. It was suggested I get the pasta with truffles, wild mushrooms, and cream sauce. A lot of professional chefs refused to use truffle oil. This dish is a reason why it was super heavy. It had an odd flavor and overall unsatisfying as I was eating it, I was questioning my decisions. What are the calories in this compared to the utility ? I came here for brunch on Saturday. I had a peach bellini (peach purée and Prosecco, comes frozen) which was delicious and refreshing. They have $3 mimosas and bellinis during brunch. I also ordered the B.E.C. sandwich. The sandwich comes with two over medium eggs, bacon, cheese and arugula on brioche bread, with a side of house fries. We had four things at this restaurant. 1) grilled octopus 2) muscles 3) two pasta dishes The grilled octopus and the muscles were very good and we enjoyed both all the way through. However both of our pasta entree dishes lacked any flavor and being an Italian restaurant, I just cannot get past it. After a week long visit with my sister in Texas for her birthday, we decided that we would have her birthday dinner here at taverna. We had booked for a 7pm dinner a couple of weeks in advance before I visited to make sure that we were all set. We had never been and we love trying new places so we were excited to have great Italian food. We arrive at 6:45pm and know we are early. The hostess advised that at 7pm there may still be a half hour to an hour wait. We advised that we made reservations so we wouldn't have to wait that long. I understand maybe 10 minutes for a reservation when it's busy but nothing more. There were also 4 tables we saw that were not taken when we were still not called at 7:20pm and we asked about it and were told to wait our turn and that those families are just late. The hostess was absolutely rude. She wouldn't give her name. She looked Mexican and petite girl. When another hostess or maybe it was a sever overheard this situation, she came up to us and apologized and asked if we would like to be seated inside or out and we said whichever was easiest for them. We got seated outside and she got our drink orders. The food was actually very delicious! My sister and I both ordered the risotto and it was amazing!!!!! The burger that my sister's bf ordered was not that great. The drinks were also very good and strong! We did advise it was my sister's birthday and they did not do anything special or even offer a dessert. All in all, there would be more stars here but because of the bad experience with the hostess, it made for a sour experience. We are just glad at least the food was good. read more

I came here for a party back in April. We had at least 10 or more at the table. We sat outside and it was so nice. It was a Friday night so the domain was very busy. Our waitress was very attentive and got our orders pretty quickly. She was always checking to make sure we were okay. I wish I remembered her name. The bread with the pesto was a hit at the table. We brought our 5 year old son and there is a nice little play area with artificial turf. He had fun playing while we waiting. We started with Mussels in butter sauce. I don't eat as much seafood as my wife but this dish was tasty. The bread dipped in the butter sauce with basil was a nice addition. We then shared a Caesar Salad. It was good but nothing that veered off the common path. It was fresh. We also had the Spaghetti with added Meatballs. It was tasty and the noodle were just right (my wife is a noodle expert). I had the Spicy Salami Pizza with added mushrooms and olives. It was tasty with a light crust. The food here was tasty. But, it is a popular spot in the Domain so expect wait times. Great small intimate family dinner here on a Friday night in a busy night in domain. Thankfully we had made reservations day of. The focaccia Parmesan bread was addictive and super delicious. My mother and I split an Paglia E Fieno entree and it was pre divided prior to serving which was greatly appreciated. They no longer were offering bottles of Dr Loosen Riesling as indicated on the online menu but gracious server said there was some still in stock and we could purchase by glass. I saw many different types of parties from couples to families coming in for a night out for dinner. I started with an Italian old fashioned and an order of their meatballs. The old fashioned was a little sweet and found the meatballs to be really delicious. Then for the main course I ordered a pasta and fish dish. Got Paglia E Fieno and Branzino al Forno. The Paglia had a really strong truffle taste to it but everything paired well together from the chicken and the mushrooms. Then the sea bass was really delicious it was paired with roasted vegetables that made for a really nice combination. The main courses were smaller in portion for the price. Ravioli was lukewarm, and was more on the colder side. It had hardly one spoon of sauce and the server spilled half of it while serving. Finally a warm sunny day to have lunch outside at the Domain. So many choices but Italian food paired with cold beers seemed like a no brainer. Our server Dodd was great despite being super busy and took great care of us. The mussels a la diavola were just the right level of spice and dipping the bread in the sauce was heavenly. My eggplant parmigiana was thinly sliced and very lightly breaded so it didn't feel as heavy as it can be at other places. Would have this dish again... and again. The short rib bolognese gnocchi had so much meat. The carrots were so sweet and the meat so tender. Another great dish. Visited Taverna for brunch as my first brunch in Austin! About a 30 minutes wait but staff was all very friendly! Nice bar and even have windows that open to allow patio type seating. The Taverna Hash might very well be the best hash I have ever had. Two eggs, brisket, peppers, onions, roasted potatoes, hollandaise. Seasoned to perfection and flavors went so well together.
