I've lived in North Central Austin for 14 years and always went to the Outback Steakhouse next door to Carrabbas whenever i had a gift card from Bloomin Brands but was always curious about the italian grill next door which is part of the same family of restaurants. I got invited to an event to celebrate their new happy hour menu and sampled many of those new items. The lasagna dip was my favorite since you literally get a bowl of pasta free lasagna and then a side of homemade chips. It was delicious. My only complaint is that the chips get a bit salty and after several that wore on me, but didn't stop me. The spinach arancini are very crispy and deep fried on the outside and nice a creamy on the inside. Very delicious. I had 3 of them. The mezzaluna fritte is like a cross between a deep fried ravioli or a breaded piece of chicken. Tasty and crunchy on the outside like a breaded chicken and soft on the inside like a ravioli. I didn't eat the shrimp focaccia bites, but my friends said they were delicious and fresh. Another fave of mine was the rosemary parmesan wings...oooh so good (just the name should tell you what they tasted like) and they were cooked perfectly to be be tender. For drinks I ordered a Rose Sangria with light ice so i could enjoy the fruit bits floating in it as well as the sangria. It was very refreshing and I got a little buzz from it. This was my second time visiting this restaurant. My first time wasn't fantastic. So, I thought I would give this another try on a rainy afternoon. The food was good - excellent waiter, Chianti was also good. I paired it with spaghetti and meatballs to go back to the basics and see how it would taste. Meatballs were perfect, pasta was perfect, but the sauce had too much sugar. The restaurant has an open kitchen - nothing pretty to look at (gives it a diner feel)- and guests can hear the conversation between all the cooks and staff. Someone should warn them about that! An extremely busy day turned into no one wanting to cook dinner. Therefore, we ended up at Carrabba's Italian Grill, located on Research Blvd. near Duval Road. It is an unassuming Italian restaurant that has a family feel. The restaurant has somewhere between modern flare and traditional Italian persona. We ordered spaghetti and meat sauce and salmon and broccoli. The spaghetti and meat sauce was a generous portion - enough for two people. The salmon was sized for one person. Both entrees came with one other side. We chose a garden salad and sausage and lentil soup. The garden salad was fresh and crisp. The sausage and lentil soup was hearty and expertly flavored. The meals also came with bread along olive oil and herbs...perfect accompaniment. A number of promotions were happening at Carrabba's. They have a daily happy hour 4-6 pm with $8 bites, $8 cocktails, $25 sangria pitchers, $6 premium spirits and $3 draft beer. In addition, they had a promotion where you could pay $10 to take an entrée home with you, if you purchased an entree in the restaurant. Wanted some Italian food and some good bread. Unfortunately, my last experience was kind of far from that. Ambiance: Walking up to the restaurant I've notice some changes since the last time I've eaten here. There was a nice crowd during my 8p visit and service was running smoothing...until. Service: There were several employees that was just standing around the kitchen area while several tables were still dirty from the last party. Next, the bus boy that was supposedly cleaning the tables was using an old towel/rag with no bucket to rinse. In addition, he was using the same towel/rag to wipe the tables and chairs instead of separate towel/rag. Next, my waiter came to my table to table greet me with any drinks. I decided on just water and another waiter came back to bring the water and bread and spilled the water on the table and the chair and did not come back to clean it up. Next, the waiter came back to take my order and did not ask if I wanted more bread or water. After that, the waiter did not show back up until it was time to pay for my meal. Food: Overall, the food was just okay. It wasn't bad and it wasn't that great since the last time I've gone. The bread is still really good however, my waiter seems to lack on the replacement of bread at the time of service. In addition, I was giving false advertisement by the menu. Oh this place is soooo good. I love their house salad and the fried zucchini! It's a little more on the pricier side but worth it and the ambiance is a little more upscale. Love the food. They always start you off with the bread and olive oil dip. Just don't eat too much and get full on the bread while you wait. It wasn't a busy Sunday evening, but the server was friendly but super slow. Appeared to be new. I always get the Chicken Marsala with sautéed spinach. It's my fav. Wow! I've always heard of Carrabba's, but never had one close enough to us to try out. We finally went to Austin today and we were in the mood for Italian food! I was excited to check this place out. We stopped in for lunch and it wasn't too busy yet thankfully. The restaurant was decorated beautifully decorated and felt welcoming. Our server, Steven was phenomenal! Truly, he was one of the friendliest, most attentive servers we've ever had. He knew exactly what to suggest when we had asked for recommendations and did NOT disappoint! The food was really great and tasted very fresh. The portions are also a good size, unlike Outback which I was disappointed with recently. We ordered a few different items to try out and all were very good! They have great lunch specials with many options. I packaged up leftovers as everything was filling, but I'm still thinking about the cannoli cake I had seen and wishing I had gotten a slice to go! Thank you, Steven! Oof this place was overwhelmingly bland. I would categorize it with your (what used to be) mid-tier restaurants: Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, Maggiano's. Of course nothing is made from scratch, so expectations are lower, but this was just bad. Especially for the price point. Like most restaurants nowadays, you'll likely spend $20+ per person for entrees alone. We spent $70 before tip and the food just didn't make sense for that price point. Will definitely not be revisiting. On the bright side, service was quick. No wait to dine on a Saturday night. Plenty of parking in a regular parking lot. Good variety on the menu and pretty straight forward. FOOD RATINGS: - Appetizer trio (2/5): The only redeeming factor on this was the stuffed mushrooms. Decent flavor. Lukewarm, though. Everything else was extremely bland. Tasted fresh out of a microwave. - Caesar salad (1/5): I didn't know caesar salad could be so tasteless! The only pro was the lettuce was fresh and crisp. But the dressing had 0 flavor and tasted like straight mayo that had sat in the fridge too long. - Lobster ravioli (1/5): Similar to Trader Joe's raviolis. Mushy and fake flavor. Sauce was okay. - Shrimp and scallop vodka pasta (not pictured, 1/5): The most watery "cream" sauce I've ever seen. All of the shrimp and scallops were rubbery/chewy and overcooked. The food isn't that pleasing though, we tried the chicken marsala and shrimp and scallop linguine and the both of them tasted alright. Didn't gave me that true italian flavours. We've been here a few times lately in the past few months. We've both gotten the same order at least 3 times in a row. We moved recently and I really didn't know it was here. It's always a nice, calming place to have dinner. The last time we were there, Chef Brandon took great care of us. He didn't even need to write down our orders! Chris also took good care of us in between. My husband needs to eat more protein and iron and I just got braces so I need soft foods. So we've been looking for new places to try. He's been on a sirloin kick lately. It's the only thing he's ordered so far and really likes it with a side of double spinach. I've gotten the Grilled Vegetable Ravioli every time and it's delicious. It has lots of flavors and sauce for me. It's super soft on my sore teeth which I need. It's one of those comfort foods for me. Who has lentil soup anymore. Yes, us Yelpers poke fun at chain restaurants. But, I must admit Carrabba's is prolly one of the better options if you can't go local. Far better than Olive garden in so many aspects; founded in Texas 35 years ago. My neighbor Damian Mandola is one of the founders of the brand. I needed a no fuss type place for a recent car club business meeting so I chose this location on a recent Saturday. We were seated away from most parties which was appreciated; friendly service throughout the visit. I basically sat down and ordered every appetizer for our table. Got my GF aka club secretary to try the mussels with garlic and herb broth. That didn't go well but the dish has nice flavors. Calamari had a nice crunch and a good mix of rings/tentacles; paired better with the marinara than the other sauce. Bread service was also tasty with the herbed olive oil. Stuffed mushrooms also proved some nice bites as did the meatballs. Since there were two balls, I ordered 3 to cover all diners. Garlic shrimp scampi had a robust garlic flavor and nice bread component for dipping. Caprese salad proved more for the mozzarella than the balsamic tomatoes. The surprise of the day was the zucchini fries! I've had a similar dish but the vegetable was cut thick. These were thin, actual french fry like size and were like crack paired with the garlic aioli. We were a group of 4 and we all agreed that the food was awful. Ordered pork chop and it was dry and tough. Another one ordered the appetizer platter and it had bunches of fried calamari but the problem there was tons of breading and inside tiny squid. The topper was 2 crab cakes (appetizer) and they were like mush and had a tiny taste that they were past their time. The best part was after arriving home I looked at the bill and the 2 crab cakes were $30. Imagine charging for 2 crab cakes, nothing else, $30. Never, never again will we go there. My advice to the bartender is this: double check your work. I'm not gonna double check it for you. That is just common courtesy. I expect you to get my order down pat, and then charge me accordingly. The short story is this: the bar didn't add the appetizer to the order, and I went home with two entrées and two salads. Whose fault is this? You tell me. I didn't check the bag, but again that was just me being courteous. Lastly, I'll end on this: the owner of this establishment should take note... Your Wi-Fi network has an old style captive portal, and it doesn't work very well. Spend a little more money, and get something better. I tried to access it with an iOS device, but when I would receive an email with an verification code number and then would go back to enter the number, the captive portal would be gone. Went to try this restaurant for the first time. I'm not a big fan of Jane restaurants, but wanted to give it a try for a date. The service was impeccable, and everyone who served on us did it with a smile. Even if they were just dropping a bread basket, or our main server, Aida Aida was extremely attentive and kind. She made amazing recommendations, and checked on us at regular intervals. She definitely made our experience at the restaurant memorable. The ambience was fairly bustling for Friday night, but not overcrowded. It was loud enough, but not excessively loud that we couldn't have a conversation. Pleasantly surprised by this place, and will definitely return. I ordered a vegetarian ravioli, and it was the best ravioli. I've had so far along with the tomato basil soup. The tiramisu could have been a little lighter on the sugar and with fresh cream. However, the rest of the experience made up for it. At 5:30 I called to check on the order and was informed that they do not have a home delivery function. The person alluded to the fact that deliveries were handled by Door dash. Please keep in mind that all of my interface was online through the Carrabba's website. I never received the order. My response to the person on the phone was "This is a great diet plan-Order from Carrabba's for a zero calorie meal since it will never be delivered." The person representing the restaurant on HWY 183 did not seem concerned that the order had any issues. My recommendation is to dine there with caution. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. I know it's a chain restaurant but I had great experiences up north at this chain. However, that was not my family's experience today. The worst part was the family serving of spaghetti and meat sauce that had barely any sauce and maybe a few ounces of meat for the whole 5 serving tray. What a colossal waste of money. My kids who eat really plain foods said that the spaghetti had no taste! I had the chicken Parmesan which was decent and flavorful (hence the reason for the two stars). I hadn't had Carrabba's in years. I paid $40 and ended my experience highly disappointed. This was not the Carrabba's I remember. For $16 I got an incredibly small portion of Rigatoni Martino. This was a delivery order so I could not ask a wait staff about this. It came in a small black container and was barely even half full. Or for a better visual, it was gone in 6 small bites. Did it at least taste good? Egh... It wasn't something that I finished and wished I had ordered a second plate of. (Even though I was still hungry after eating it) I also have not craved it since. The Tomato Caprese with Burrata saved the meal, honestly. At $12 a plate I was hesitant, but I am so glad I decided to spring for it. The cheese was creamy and soft. I did wish for more of that one at the end. Finally, I grabbed a side of garlic mashed potatoes. At only $4, how can you mess up mashed potatoes? Well, they did it. Somehow it was incredibly dry and flavorless. I think they forgot butter? Seasoning? It needed something. I've always liked Carrabba's, since I was a kid. I've never had any big issues with them before. But I have never in my life been skimped as hard by a restaurant as I just was. It could've been a more expensive item, it's not really about the money although that is annoying. It's just insulting to try to pull this shit on their customers and hope they either don't notice or care.
