First off, WOW. I love this place. In the center of the arts district and an overall cool place to hang out casually or for a date night. My husband took me here for my birthday after seeing the menu and knowing I'd be interested. The one thing that threw us off is that we were handed a completely different menu when we were seated. My husband panicked a little (lol) because it was a more casual Hawaiian menu but we later found out that they were having a Hawaiian night and they still had the usual menu, you just had to ask for it so keep that in mind if the menu is different on Yelp than what you get handed! We started with the Mediterranean nachos and they were delicious. They're pita chips with hummus, veggies, tzatziki sauce, and more. I got the rainbow trout for my meal with purple risotto and WOW. It was amazing! The fish was beautifully cooked and delicious, the risotto was tasty and creamy, and even the broccoli was really tasty! It was a beautiful dish. We made a reservation at 11am for a friends birthday. We walked in and the staff were setting up for a big party, they couldn't be bothered with our small party of 6. They said they could seat us outside only, but when a party of 3 came in, they were happy to help them immediately. We waited patiently and then decided to leave and go to 1228 Main(this place was amazing!). The waitress asked if we wanted to speak to a manager as we were leaving. I recently visited this establishment with high hopes, but my experience left me deeply disappointed and hurt. It's disheartening to encounter a business that promotes a homophobic atmosphere in this day and age. My girlfriend and I entered the women's bathroom together because I wasn't feeling well and I needed her help. Keep in mind we are two females I (femme) and her (masc). We were later startled, as we heard extremely hard pounding on the door, followed by (GET OUT NOW). We were later escorted out by security, who was laughing and mocking us. We were not given the respect of politely letting us know we couldn't share the restroom. Prior to us entering there were two femmes using the restroom at the same time and nothing was told to them. No signage anywhere near the restroom that we aren't allowed to use it together. This place definitely discriminated us because we are a gay couple. Homophobia has no place in our society, and businesses should be safe and inclusive spaces for everyone. It's disheartening to see that this business not only tolerates but seems to encourage such behavior. I strongly urge the owners and management of this establishment to reevaluate their policies and educate their staff on the importance of inclusivity and diversity. Until then, I cannot, in good conscious, recommend this place to anyone who values equality and respect for all individuals. read more

Taverna really disappointed me this weekend. I went with my family and I and we did not get greeted. It took them a while to get us seated as well. Not sure if they were transitioning servers but it seemed like the first guy that talked to us did not want to serve us at all and he said that Michael was going to serve us. Then, he came back over and told us that Michael wasn't going to serve us. Then Michael came and introduced himself to us as our server and never checked on us until we were leaving. The food was a disappointment as well. We got the waffle sliders and the side of potatoes came cold. It sucks because this place is nice but the customer service and the food was not up to par.
