Had a very pleasant experience at Taverna Tony's for a birthday celebration. I arrived early and sat at the bar. They have a nice list of cocktails, beer and wine. Even wine from Greece! The bar is a little on the small side, but they did have one TV that was playing a sports game. At first look, the restaurant is gorgeous. Love the decor and overall elegant vibe.They have a sprawling outdoor patio that is heated that was packed with diners. The inside is also spacious. I saw lots of large groups dining together and it didn't feel cramped at all on the inside. Everything I had to eat here was amazing. The warm and fresh pita, dip platter and calamari were all fantastic starters for the table. You could order a bunch of plates to share for the table, since the portions are pretty healthy here. I ordered the Pastichio dish and it was perfect. Loved the veggies and potatoes it came with. I probably wouldn't have known about this place if it weren't for attending this birthday celebration, but now I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a nice meal in the Malibu area. We had a confirmed reservation and still waited OVER AN HOUR to be seated. We arrived on time, checked in, and were told it would be "just a few minutes." That turned into more than 60 minutes of waiting with no real updates and no sense of urgency from staff. The explanation we eventually received was that a party of 12 turned into 20. While that may be difficult for them, it should not derail every other reservation for the night. What made it worse was the attitude. Instead of a sincere apology or any effort to make things right, staff were dismissive and seemed annoyed that we even asked for updates. We felt like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Unfortunately, the experience didn't improve once we were finally seated. So.. the place was really nice, service was good, it's really lively if you like the live music and Dance, if you're not, then it'll be too loud and over stimulating. Now to the food, nothing special, the chicken kebab was dry, the salmon tasteless in my opinion, it's so not worth paying $95/person for. I do enjoyed the fried calamari, pita and dip. We arrived 30 minutes before closing and were afraid to order anything that would take too long. However, the server was so patient with us and never rushed us during the whole dinner. He even asked if we wanted dessert after we were finished 10 minutes AFTER closing. We ordered the Anixiatiko and Salonika. After we ordered, our table was brought warm pita with a house whipped butter, which was SO good. Normally I don't enjoy pita, but the warm pita paired with the "famous house dip" was a delight for my taste buds. The pastas on the other hand were not anything too special. They tasted decent. The Anixiatiko tasted of butter pasta with herbs and slightly cooked vegetables. The Salonika tasted like a classic tomato vodka pasta. They do give a sauce cup full of grated cheese though, so you could adjust how much you put in. Love the food but (1) bad experiences with the hostess (young brunette, entitled, gen z looking woman) and (2) change of chef a while ago. Been coming here for years. Again, love the food, so I still come. But (1) the hostess sat minority races of all kinds indoors while caucasians were outside - this was thanksgiving time when weather was gorgeous. I only noticed because it was so blatantly obvious. So much so that when I asked the waiter about it (grey haired ponytail biker looking guy) he also said it was weird to see it. When I asked the hostess, she was a total B*tch and had no customer service -- no apologetic genuine surprise and more defensive, which made her look even more suspicious. I've got video evidence because of how absurd the disparity was. Never seen this before. (2) chef changed and they reduced the number of potatoes in the side dish. Of course a regular would notice this. I noticed this years ago and just still so disappointed you get so few potatoes for an expensive dish. (3) they're charging for extra bread and dip AND the dip amount has decreased. Total BS! People notice these things and it leaves a sour taste. Went to Taverna Tony's for my mom's birthday over the weekend. I won't lie, the vibes and ambiance were spectacular, the live music, the dancer, and staff were amazing. We were a fairly large group and at times a little behind when it came to ordering but when we got around to it, we had a bit higher expectations. I had ordered the Salonika with shrimp added and no mushrooms, but my order came with no shrimp and with mushrooms. We also had ordered 2 orders of the lamb, with the request of well done but the meat came to us fairly pink and undercooked. I do not blame our waiter for this; he took the time to show me exactly how he had entered the order and that the blame was for the kitchen. As much as I loved the restaurant, for the amount of money spent, the expectations for the food served were much higher. The flaming cheese was delightful, the calamari had me licking my fingers, and the bread with the garlic butter was out of this world. It is understandable that the restaurant was busy on a Saturday night, but the kitchen staff should be more diligent when preparing orders. A few of our guests ended up eating from the kids orders and the items the rest of us had ordered because of these issues. The parking wasn't an issue at first until some time passed. We didn't have trouble finding parking upon arrival around 7:30pm, the issue was the parking tickets that were placed on all three vehicles we arrived in. I think the restaurant needs private parking and valet. This was just a mess, one car even had 2 tickets on it. While I understand this is city parking, a restaurant of this scale and popularity should provide secure and private parking for their guests. read more

Ive been coming here for years, always loved their authentic greek dishes. That said, the experience I had last weekend, left me feeling like I wont return. Came to get a drink and appetizer with a girl friend. We sat outside and ordered two drinks and fried calamari. We asked our waiter to recommend a tequila for us, he stated, we have so many just go to the bar and look. I was shocked he wanted us to get up from the table and go to the bar to look?! He couldnt just tell us a few that he knew were decent? Then the calamari came out, not the usual hot and crispy, but bland and undercooked. The calamari came out usually with cocktail sauce, maybe they changed it to tartar along the way? I asked for cocktail sauce to the busboy, and he did bring the sauce about 15 minutes later. The calamari was getting cold so we went to ask our waiter, who was checking on tables across the aisle. I said, excuse me? He either didn't hear me or didn't want to hear me. We had to almost shout for him to hear us, then he turned around surprised that we had to raise our voice. I explained that we had no cocktail sauce and with an attitude turned to tell someone to get it. He then came back and tried to explain himself that his busboy is hard of hearing. Here is the gaslighting part: the busboy heard us already, but the waiter tried to say his busboy is hard of hearing, when in fact, he (the waiter) didnt hear or chose not to hear us. We told him that the busboy was not the problem, but actually he was for being inattentive. Service was awful with a side of attitude, and food was less than average. Unfortunately this business has gone down hill. Maybe all the tourists are taking a toll on the waiters, but I am a local, and will not return or recommend. read more

I would 100% recommend making a reservation in advance as dinner slots fill up quickly. Also if you don't cancel your reservation within a few hours of it, you get charged 20 bucks. We got seated and were presented with the house dip and some beautiful freshly baked sourdough bread. They gave us like a whole loaf. Super soft inside and crusty on the outside.. went perfectly with the house dip which was creamy, garlicky and just plain delicious!!! We ordered the Greek peasant salad (chopped, which was recommended for sharing) and the taverna combination platter. Sharing was a great idea because we got to try a little bit of everything and we still had so many leftovers. This was dinner on our first evening in California. We had made reservations, which I strongly recommend. Opting for outdoor patio seating on such a pleasant evening was a great choice. Although it was our first visit, we were treated with respect and felt very welcomed. Our server, a young woman named Mariah, was excellent and answered all our questions about the menu. Despite not having a specific kids' menu, the restaurant was definitely kid and family-friendly. Many tables had children, and they were accommodating to kids of all ages, whether in a stroller, car seat, or able to sit at the table. We were promptly served water, bread, and a wonderful hummus-like dip that tasted great. Although I'm not a fan of sourdough, crumbling it with this dip was heavenly. For starters, we shared a Greek salad and fried calamari. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and delicious. We also ordered a soup, which was equally tasty. For my entrée, I had a chicken kebab dish with wild rice and perfectly cooked and seasoned potatoes that were to die for. The restaurant offered a variety of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, along with a selection of desserts. Nestled in Malibu just below the Pepperdine campus, the restaurant is surrounded by areas with free parking and various stores to explore before or after dinner. A friend and I went here for dinner over the weekend. We had a reservation for 7pm -- we were running about 5 minutes late because of traffic and called to let them know and they said it wouldn't be a problem. We didn't end up getting seated until almost 740. Service was okay, we had two different waiters and I couldn't figure out if they were working in tandem or didn't know which of them should be working on our table. The food was also just okay. We had the chopped Greek salad, little fried fish, meatballs and spanakopita. Of those, the spanakopita was my favorite, Greek salad was fresh and tasted good. The meatballs were inedible, meat was still pink inside and I spit my bite into a napkin. The fish was all right, sort of like French fries but fish. The portion is HUGE (which we weren't aware of) so we definitely couldn't finish it. Overall the restaurant is all right? But seems very overpriced for somewhat mediocre food and service.
