My gf and I went to Greece last summer and when we came here it made it feel like we transported back to Naoussa. The white and blue tones are a must if you're at a Greek Restaraunt and they did it very tastefully here. We got the dip platter and avgolemono soup. The dip lasted for days!! It was so big and so delicious and so filling we couldn't order an entree, so we got the soup. The avgolemono soup was my favorite one I have tried so far! It's creamy, lemony, and perfect portion of orzo and chicken. I ordered another to go because I love soup and I will probably drive to Malibu just to get it again. Wow! Where do I begin!? This place was beyond amazing from the food to the service! I can see why it was so busy because the food was incredible! The lighting and atmosphere was on point as soon as we walked in! We started off with the hot cheese appetizer which was pretty cool because they light it on fire at your table! Oh and the olive dip that they give you complimentary was also one of the best dips I've ever had! As far as the main course goes we went with the slow roasted lamb! They cooked it to perfection! We sat at the bar and our bartender Zack was also amazing and made some delicious drinks! Zack recommended the friend chocolate cake with banana ice cream and boy was he 1000% right!! I've been coming to Taverna Tony for years, but after tonight, I think I'm done. We had a reservation and requested an indoor table, only to be told they had "other reservations ahead of us" and couldn't seat us inside. Fair enough--except when we left after our meal, at least two-thirds of the indoor tables were still empty. We made the best of sitting outside, but the food didn't do us any favors. Everything was bland, and the spanakopita tasted like it had been pulled from the back of a freezer and reheated--Trader Joe's version is fresher. The service didn't help either. The hostess was dismissive and made it clear that making guests feel welcome wasn't a priority. Taverna Tony used to be a Malibu staple, but it's really gone downhill. If this is the new normal, there are plenty of other places that do Greek food (and hospitality) better. read more

Taverna Tony Greek Eats & Sweets is most definitely my favorite restaurant in Malibu. The Keftethes Greek Meatballs ($15.95) are a must-order share plate, with garlic, onion, oregano, and fresh herbs. They're top of my recommendations because of their texture and flavor. I love how the herbs complement the savory flavor of the meat, and how the outside is perfectly crispy with the inside being just the right amount of pink. You really can't go wrong with any of their salads because of how fresh all of the vegetables are. We love their traditional Greek Peasant salad ($22.95) which comes with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, green and red bell peppers, feta cheese, black olives, and served with their signature Greek dressing. It's also just fun to order the peasant salad. We are obsessed with the whipped house dip garlic lemon spread that comes with the bread. They have gluten free pasta and a wide range of delicious looking grilled lamb plates that I'll have to try the next time I'm back. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the bar is first come, first serve. As of now, I'd recommend making a reservation before coming because they're extremely popular (for good reason) and usually have a few large parties. There's plenty of free parking in the variety of lots, and they even have Tesla chargers within walking distance. The staff is great, and they have live music and dancers on Saturdays. read more

This restaurant is a must try in Malibu and is worth the drive. If you're planning a weekend dinner a reso is recommended. I've went to Taverna Tony's twice now. If you go on a Saturday the ambience is a vibe. Perfect for a date night or celebration of sorts, even a girls night. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate all of the vegetarian options. Very interesting experience overall. I came here for a friend's birthday lunch. I will start off by saying that we were like 30 minutes late for our reservation but they still had space open. The hostess was very kind and we were able to sit outside. The bread and dip that was provided was some of the best I ever had. The dip was so rich and creamy and I absolutely loved it. However, our experience started to go downhill when our server came. He was an older gentleman who seemed to have issues hearing which is totally alright except he had a very rude attitude towards us and kept on yelling at us if we knew what we want and if our order was what we actually wanted. Anytime we asked him about recommendations or if we could turn on the heater he kept on yelling in an almost condescending attitude. Anyways, the food itself was pretty good. The calamari was really good and the appetizer plate (the one with an assortment of appetizers) was quite delicious. Unfortunately, the lobster pasta was very disappointing and it was incredibly watery and bland. The lobster itself didn't have much flavour either. I had the worst experience of dining at my favorite restaurant last Saturday, January 23rd. I never felt that way before. I am a busy executive and honestly didn't have the time to write this, but I thought it is so important for the public, as well as the ownership know about a horrible manager by the name of Gilli, who should not be dealing with customers in any capacity, and I know for a fact that I am not alone feeling about her and her management style. Taverna Tony is a great restaurant, and other than this manager, Gilli, all other staff, including the band, waiters, waitresses, and the front desk, are friendly and professional. I have been a loyal customer of Taverna Tony for over 20 years. Throughout all that time, my family and I have always loved the food, live music, and entertainment. We have chosen this restaurant for countless celebrations, including birthdays, family gatherings, and other special occasions. Over the years, we have consistently been welcomed warmly, often given a table by the band, and made to feel like part of the family. Because of this long-standing relationship, this experience was especially disappointing. From the start, Gilli was rude, unapproachable, and displayed a consistently negative attitude. Despite the fact that we had reservations, she stated she would "try" to seat us and then made no further effort to follow up or communicate with us, which further demonstrated her inattentiveness, leaving us waiting without explanation. There were lots of tables available by the way. What was most upsetting was a rude and inappropriate comment she made regarding my son singing in Persian when he was specifically asked by the band and the crowd to sing one or two songs. This was particularly troubling given that Taverna Tony regularly features musicians performing in many different languages, including Greek, Persian, Armenian, Arabic, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, and others. It is important to note that my son's singing was overwhelmingly welcomed by the crowd. The crowd and staff clearly enjoyed his performance, and he was called up by the band due to popular demand. Numerous guests and staff members complimented him afterward, making the manager's comment not only unnecessary but completely inconsistent with the positive and inclusive atmosphere shared by everyone else in the establishment. Singling out my son for singing in Persian felt disrespectful and discriminatory, and it created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment for my family and many others. Managers set the tone for hospitality and inclusivity, and Gilli's behavior fell well below the standards I have come to expect from this establishment over the past three decades. No guest should be made to feel unwelcome. I hope this matter is taken seriously by ownership and addressed appropriately. I would highly encourage upper management or ownership to get in touch with me, because this letter hardly scratches the surface of her unpleasant and rude behavior that has affected me. Gilli should never be dealing with the public, and I am sure we are not the first people she treated that way. If she continues in her role as a manger it is going to cause this establishment to lose customers over time. Especially people like me who travel about 30 to 35 minutes each way to get there and expect to be welcomed. I would appreciate knowing what steps will be taken to ensure that all guests are treated with respect and fairness moving forward, as it always has until Gilli became a manager. read more

We had a really wonderful lunch for 8 of us at Taverna Tony's out on the front deck w/ canopy of greenery above us on a beautiful, sunny fall day. We had a couple bottles of Greek white wine our server recommended that was really unique and excellent - a 2017 Artemis Karamolego from Santorini. He brought us an order of the house Taramosalata dip (hummus like with avocado, lemon juice, olive oil, onions and red caviar- devine), and then we shared the Meze plate, which also had the Melitzanosalata (eggplant dip), tzatziki, hummus, and one of the best taboulis I've had, served w/ fresh pitas. We all had salads, some the Greek Peasant salad with chicken, and many of us the Garithosalata w/ grilled shrimp, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, feta, olives and a wonderful house Greek dressing, chopped. My husband and I shared one, and it was perfect for 2 and delicious. I read the review calling out the guy who I'm sure was our server as "Grumpy McGreek" and cracked up, because he definitely was. He took a liking to one of the gals in our group and was overly accomodating to her, but totally ignored another gal, who was legitimately asking about shellfish allergies. The lamb chops are thick, juicy and unbelievably filling - more than worth the price. The only problem is that great as they were, a very neutral visage, like lightly salted gentle botanicals. Not sure about you but I think they could do with a bit of Greek seasoning to really give it that nice flavour we like in the lamb chops. The veggies were a tad overcooked but passable. The dolmas were all rice and hardly any meat, kinda sad. The lemon soup was tasty and the sausages were great as well, so some small victories at least. I did order a tiny side of tzatziki to make those lamb chops taste like something but instead the waitress sent out nearly a plateful and added it as an extra cost on our bill. We asked her to take it off the bill as that was not what we ordered and she did so without any fuss. This could use all the flavor help it can get so including a sauce with this (like many other places do) would have been nice. As a bonus, they had FREE BREAD actually so good I forgot to take a picture of it! With very nice Greek music in the background, it offers a wonderful total experience view to where the restaurant is located. Service as a whole was average. read more

Taverna Tony is a beautiful Greek taverna located at Cross Creek in Malibu and offers a Mediterranean menu mostly Greek traditional recipes. There is ample free parking in the plaza. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and on a lovely sunny day, I always opt for the outdoor patio seating to feel the Malibu summer breeze. Today further inland in LA and the valley was an extraordinarily hot day, some places over 100 degrees. As I'm quickly typing this review, it's a perfect 77 degrees and lovely. Was cordially greeted by the hostess who let Me and Fendi take out choice of seating. The restaurant was busy with diners. I've been to this restaurant several times and before the development of the Lumberyard shopping area but sadly just now writing a review. The waitress was attentive, nice and helpful. Every dish on the menu is fantastic: dolmathes, spanakopita, horiatiki, grilled seafood, salads and dips. The mezzo platter of dips includes: hummus tabouli, smokey eggplant and tahini with warm basket of freshly baked bread and pita is my fav and it is so filling, definitely shareable. Before indulging in the beautiful mezze platter, I took some pics and in the process noticed a familiar face...'the Edge' from the Irish band U2. My waitress confirmed it was the Edge guy with a smile. Turns out my members of U2 live in Malibu and frequent Taverna Tony. I see celebrities out and about in Beverly Hills frequently and I'm not flustered one bit. The Edge, wearing his signature skull cap beanie, seemed to have photobombed my vidi taking process and so his pics to this review. I currently reside steps away from Avra restaurant in Beverly Hills where the Greek food is phenomenal, fresh Delish and close to Me. Before Avra, and if I'm in Malibu Taverna Tony is a must for fantastic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Food is 10/10 here!!! We had the combination platter to try all the dips. The tabouli was to die for, best I've had for sure. Loves the hummus and babaganoush as well. The chicken souvlaki was so moist, and the potatoes and rice it came with were addicting. Ambiance is nice but restaurant is extremely crowded, mainly with waiters to be honest. The servers were all frantically running around with trays of food. I watched servers drop things multiple times, bring things to wrong tables, and they kept hitting my chair. It was hard to get anyone's attention to answer simple questions. Our waiter was slightly grumpy and provided no tips on the menu as it was our first time visiting. He also couldn't hear us well over the live music so would stare blankly at us when we asked anything. As a note, if you're coming for the live music, the band does take long breaks, so I'd recommend coming for the 8pm music as opposed to when it starts at 6:30 as it seems like the first break is the longest. I'd call to double check on music start and break times so as to not be disappointed. I almost forgot to mention the best part of the meal!!!
