We have been to Tawa for a few sunday buffets and also went once for the Diwali buffet. The food always is delicious, has a lot of variety and prepared well. Except one time with one of the appetisers a rubber band was cooked and it was absolutely gross. The 3 stars are for all the previous times that we have eaten but couldn't bring myself to forget this. They surely changed my plate and tried to fix it but it was very suspicious to where it even came from. I still have slight fond memories of this restaurant but couldn't bring myself back here. I was here on my birthday night for hookah, cocktails and dinner. We got there around 6:30 pm and started off with hookah. They have a happy hour for cocktails between 4-7 PM. We ordered a sangria pitcher and a Moscow mule for drinks. Don't forget to check-in and get a free veg appetizer. For main course we ordered chicken chettinad, Hakka noodles and chili chicken. We visited during their Sunday brunch buffet, which was such a fun way to try a little bit of everything from Indian cuisine! They also had a variety of options for every palate, including pasta, eggs, and chicken tenders with fries. The set up was great! The food itself was underwhelming, I'm only giving it a 3 bc if aforementioned service and that the food was not oily and definitely tasted like it had been made fresh and was not already prepared. Ordered delivery for dinner. Wait time ~1hr. ORDER -Saag paneer: Loved my order. Portion size was very filling. All the entrees came with basmati rice. Not stingy on the paneer. I ordered mild, but next time will order medium spicy -Naan: was a little too soggy, but it's delivery so what more can you expect. Did a great job soaking up the delicious saag. -Tikka masala (paneer/ chicken): Coworkers liked their dishes as well. Medium spicy was great. Portion size is great. Couldn't finish half of it, so will eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Remember to check in on yelp for free appetizer. After my delivery order got cancelled without explanation by Dhabewala, I put in one at Tawa instead and it ended up being for the better. My husband and I both got Vindaloo - mine lamb and his chicken - and they were stellar. Beware though, if you ask for spicy - they will absolutely deliver it - and I love that they actually adjust spice to taste versus some places ignore the request especially with delivery. I asked for 'very spicy' because most places never make it hot enough for my taste and next time I will dial it back a notch. My husband requested medium spicy and his was just right for me and a little too hot for him. Even with our spice tolerances being tested, we powered through because the vindaloo was SO GOOD. The spice delivered heat without taking over the entire dish. There was also healthy hunks of meat in the dish as well so nothing to complain about there. Easily the best biryani in town. I would highly recommend trying the mutton biryani (goat).... they are fantastic with their meats. Also decent options for Indian Chinese. Another good combination was the bhindi (okra) but sometimes they seem to be out of stock. Best to call in and check before placing an order. Quick delivery too! read more

They should stick to takeaway. Not with dinning in as the takeout pickup is in front in the dining area. The samosas I was severed were just warm, greasy and served with two plastic takeout containers. The rest of the food was ok but priced equally with much better options. read more

I don't know what happened to this place, but we went last night (12/7/24) and it was excellent. Well, the vegetable appetizer I had was meh (Pav Bhaji), and it was oddly served with a hamburger bun. I always have rotten luck getting vegetables at Stamford Indian restaurants. Anyway, the reason for my surprise is that my husband and I went to this location a few years ago, and the food was weak and (I felt) overpriced. I'm not sure if it's new management or what, but my Lamb Tiki Masala was fab, and my husband's Chicken Kabob delicious. I asked for hot tea, expecting the usual blah Lipton bag, and the nice server brought this delicious milky chai. All seemed reasonably priced too, comparatively speaking. I'm so psyched to have a decent Indian restaurant in Stamford. We sat in the back dining room which was fine, not as pleasant as the website makes the atmosphere sound, but the bar area is pretty cool. read more

Tawa is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants, in Stamford and in general. This is also one of our favorite lunch destinations with my son - reasonable price, tasty food, easy to chose from in buffet style. All the seasoning is done "just right", no dishes are too spicy or too bland, good selection, and there is always something different, at least one dish. This is not just a buffet - the restaurant offers a full bar, has a good wine list, good cocktails. It is an a la carte restaurant in the evening with a lot of regional Indian favorites, like Lamb Dumpak, mulligatawny soup, and many others. Good service. Recommended. read more

Nice place with decent music no one in restaurant as it was weekday. I ordered malai kofta and bread. The food was good but overpriced for the quality. When it comes to service I would say they have pretty bad service. First experience: When I requested for a spoon the server asked me to take the spoon that came with the curry. I have never seen any restaurant who suggested me use the same spoon that came with the curry. I would not imagine that would a great effort for cleaning up one spoon as the restaurant was empty. Second experience: Malai kofta is served with rice as I ordered bread I did not eat rice and when requested for the to go box the server gave weird smile as if I was just taking the stuff for free. This was not acceptable. Third experience: When I informed the manager about my experiences he was like not sure why this happened he never apologised initially for the poor service when I informed him that I would be writing up a review that is the time he apologised and said this is just a small issue and don't give a bad review for this issue. I would consider this as a bigger issue and would also expect the restaurant to also consider this as a big issue. Final experience: On my way out I was about to get some mouth freshener and I see the bowl filled with ants and when I informed the manager he said ants gets attracted towards candy.Seriously is that what you call hygiene. The restaurant has been bought over and I did not realise until I checked yelp after I ate there, I asked the hostess if there had been a change as we did not see our usual waitstaff, she lied straight to my face saying nothing is different and everything is the same and the two male staff I asked about were on vacation. They have kept all Tawa logos and website pretending it is the same but only one sign on the restaurant noted a different name but I thought they had expanded to catering. I have been eating here since my first review and at least had the buffet once a month. I have a MSG sensitivity and I had eaten here in the past with no issue. This time after a few nibbles of my first plate I was hit with all the usual symptoms. The food tasted different as well, the chicken tikka masala usually amazing and bursting with flavors was very aromatic but smell did not translate into taste. No little fried chickpea circles, a few other usuals were missing too. No Korma to be found, Biryani was one of the MSG culprits, with hard to find pieces of chicken. Saag was stringy and difficult to chew with again minimal flavor. I tried a few other dishes but none were memorable. Naan was hard & crispy also had little black seeds mixed in with the dough. Chai Tea at the end was eh very watered down with minimal flavor. They had a dessert out as well which was unidentifiable, I asked a waiter what is it and he said just bread and milk. I tried it and it was almost like cold french toast. It is such a shame Tawa sold out, the food is not the same quality at all and I wonder if Chef Roy is still there. Good buffet variety, flavors and freshness for 11 bucks.... Compared to other indian buffets in Jackson Heights, the mecca of this food type, this ain't bad at all. I arrived at 12:10 pm so there was a lot of food ready and hot, don't fool yourself, it's a buffet not your mom's house. Two type of meat dishes and both very delicious. No cockroachs on my plate. First off, I do not know what Tawa Light is, but it mysteriously was marketed and taste like Bud Light. Hmm. Fear not though if you are craving an authentic Indian experience. Indian television is broadcasting and the staff (as least when I was there) is all Indian. We started off with naan stuffed with fruit, nuts, and eggplant sauce which was great, very full of flavor. This was my first time to Tawa. I liked the ambiance. Especially upstairs. The service was quick and the waiters were very courteous. They served papad with the different chutneys on the house after we were seated. The food was delicious. We ordered Chicken Tikka masala which was a hit. Tender pieces of chicken cooked in a creamy tomato sauce. Also saag paneer and onion kulcha as a side. The kulcha was soft in the middle with a slight crunch on the sides. For apps, the breaded corn was delicious. Very different and flavorful. In addition steamed chicken momos was another hit. I specially created a yelp account to write a review of the most disgusting food I ever had!!. My stomach started hurting after eating this food which never happens. (I do not have any allergies apart from disgusting food) The worst Indian food ever had. Traveled around 35 miles from my place to get food from here picked up and went back home to eat. The amount of grease in all the dishes was way obscene. Chilli- Babycorn: It smelled foul and tasted bitter. Malai Kofta: Uncooked is a snobby word for this dish, the gravy was sweeter than coke. Naan: The guy missed putting butter on the naan which also tasted bitter. Schewzan Noodles: Too oily, no taste at all, too bland. Chicken Manchurian: Oil was dripping over the sauce and the pieces were undercooked. Chinese Bhel: Did not taste a bit like what it was supposed to, raw veggies and bhel just tossed in raw oil. I could literally taste the raw oil in the food. The Most Disappointing dinner I ever had. The worst part is I spent $86 + Zip Car for getting the food, utter waste of time and money. Come here (hungry) for their afternoon buffet from 12pm-3pm on the weekends! Very worth it for the selection of food and well priced at $14.95! Weekday buffet prices are cheaper at $10.95. I'm not a huge fan of Indian food, but even I was impressed and could see the appeal for Indian cuisine lovers. They had 3 long rows of hot foods to choose from and a little dessert/chai tea station. Downgrade time. Went back with co-worker. Downgrade reasons from previous review (which should be read in conjunction with this one) are as follows- -Lamb we got was chewy as all hell and inconsistently cooked. Some pieces were totally overcooked, others were med-rare. -Both dishes we got were labeled as "spicy" on the menu, one with two spicy indicators the other with one. Neither were even remotely hot, which was the same as before. Why even bother to eat Indian if you can't get anything hot. -Service remained at best average -There was a small bone in the chicken dish we got. That combined with shrimp from previous experience indicates poor kitchen prep. -Too expensive- bill was too much for what it is. Will I go back? Maybe, but given the 40 million options within drunken falling down distance, it's hard to justify inconsistent Indian food. read more

First visit and very impressed. Spacious interior, gracious and efficient staff and, best of all, GOOD food. We usually dine at Coromandel in Darien, for us the "gold standard" in Indian food for many years. But Tawa is coming on strong with a very VEGAN and VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY menu as well as classic meat and fish dishes. The Muligatawney soup was great as was the perfectly cooked Nan. I would go here anytime for their lavish spread of choices they have on their weekend brunch buffet. My favorite is the goat curry - and Kabab platter on the tawa/pan as part of the buffet. (Tawa Glenbrook Rd Stamford). I'll preface by saying, this is not entirely flavor-related. My critique comes from quantity (and partial flavor). Tawa always has consistent flavors, with the exception of my most recent lunch order; "Chicken Manchurian" (I ask for dry with sauce/ gravy on the side). The flavor had slightly more Soy Sauce than any other time ordered (I presume there is a different cook during the weekday- Tuesday). I asked for extra spicy, and there was no difference than when my daughter orders mild. I was a bit disappointed, however, putting that slight difference aside, my review is 98% quantity-based. There was an increase in prices, but a decrease in quantity, deeming this order as borderline "price-gouging". For the $18 (not long ago being $15), the amount of chicken per order, was equivalent to possibly 1/2 of a chicken breast (or two thin cut). I can honestly say I was hungry after eating what they provided. The Tikka Masala (being a cream/ tomato-based sauce) was more filling, and always consistent in flavor. We stumbled upon this place by accident and then decided to eat here because they have a parking lot. Very soon we learnt that it was an awesome place with amazing food. The lunch buffet on Saturday had 4 kinds of chicken kebabs and they were simply amazing - kudos to the chef. The naan was okayish - cold and flour lump like it is always in any Indian restaurant in the US. Curries were good, with right amount of spices. Tawa has been bought out by the owners of Tanga Biryani Point. The restaurant re-opened under the new management on Thursday October 4th. The decor is simple but tasteful.
