Solid food and drink experience! Food: A- Got hot, decaf, oat milk latte, a blended thai tea boba with oat milk and one of their special topping donuts. And everything was great! Thoroughly enjoyed it all and the thai tea boba was great because it didn't have too much ice to solidify and give you a brain freeze, but cold enough to be refreshing. The donut was super chewy and cakey and very delicious. Staff: A Very professional and courteous. No issues whatsoever. Ensured safe COVID regulations were in place and made sure customers stood outside instead of inside for food. Price: B All together for all 3 items, came out to about $14 including tax which was reasonable given the taste and quantity. No complaints and thought it was fair. The combination bánh mì was laughable - cheap cold cut meats. The smoothie had chunks in it, and the terrible paper straws, combined with this led to constant clogging. Such a lovely little shop with amazing drinks and delicious Vietnamese lunch staples. Today's visit was especially great; the BBQ chicken Vietnamese salad with cashews, romaine lettuce, daikon, carrot, cilantro and sweet sauce was delightful. All ingredients were fresh and not having vermicelli noodles made it healthier, and it was just the right size & price. Only small oddity - no chopsticks offered, just forks. What was also great was that even though it was very crowded with the just-getting-out-of-school rush, the staff was super attentive to me and they got my food & boba tea out super quick despite having only two folks behind the counter this afternoon and quite the line behind me. My earlier review still holds true. The straw and lid combination here is the worst. If you're going to savor your drink, I suggest taking off the lid and balancing the straw perpendicularly on top when not using it, so that it does not disintegrate in the drink. That being said, the two boba drinks today were refreshing. Both the taro and honeydew ice blended boba drinks were just the right amount of sweetness. The honeydew, though, is a tad sweeter than the taro. Given shelter in place, they're only doing take out and allowing a maximum of 3 customers at a time and you need to maintain social distance when inside. There is some seating just outside the store incase you want to enjoy your drink al fresco but the store is on a nice street so I suggest sipping while strolling. read more

Went here and got a Banh Mi and bagel. I asked how much a croissant with egg would be and the cashier said $9 - what?! The bagel w/cream cheese was only $3.75. I usually go to Kim's for my Banh Mi but thought I'd give Tay Tah a try... the Banh Mi was tasty but way overpriced... it was $15 for a vegetarian Banh Mi. You can get a huge authentic veggie Banh Mi from Banh Mi Ba Le for about $4. The boba tea and ice cream seemed reasonably priced but I didn't get any. Also, this place is owned and ran by Thai people (??) not Vietnamese (??). There's a lot of Thai script everywhere - the place is called "teh nam" (pour water) and the staff were speaking Thai. Maybe that's why the sandwiches are so expensive... I'll probably come back to get a scoop of ice cream in the future but will skip out on the Banh Mi. read more

I must say that my employee and I had the best sandwiches ever! I'm an Albany resident who has tried every cafe and deli in Alameda County! We were blown away by how fresh and tasty the food was. I had the veggie avocado with tofu and he had the BBQ chicken both were extraordinary! The only regret is that I hadn't come over sooner. Also, the inside is very immaculate, something I scrutinize when dropping by an establishment. If not clean it shows disrespect to customers and laziness towards hygiene. The Iced Americano was very strong, will definitely wake you up. and the Cappuccino was smooth and delicious with a nice foam layer on top. We sat at one of their outside tables spread out on a fairly large corner sidewalk, very nice atmosphere with building shade or tree shade. They also have sandwiches as well as bahn mi vietnamese sandwiches. I haven't tried them, but would come again. read more

I grew up in the Albany area and have always enjoyed Tay Tah Café for their snacks and boba. I have never had much of an issue with their service until today. We showed up at approximately 4:55 looking to get a quick tea. The sign on the door showed they're open until 5 pm. We approached the door at the same time as another individual and found the door locked. A worker came to the door and used hand signals to explain that they are closed (despite it saying they close at 5.) Additionally, the other individual who approached the door at the same time as us was let into the establishment no questions and with no explanation to us standing next to her with confused faces. If you don't have plan on staying open to the time you advertise, please just change your hours and don't leave your patrons confused, irritated and empty handed. read more

Not recommended. Prices are over the top -- basic Bahn Mi for $15 is beyond silly. Flavor was acceptable, but not special despite costing at least twice what other places charge. The good: - bread fresh, lots of veggies. The bad: a truly pitifully small amount of chicken, no perceptible pate nor chile nor herbs. Despite 3-4 employees and a near-empty space, service was nearly non-existent --about 15 minutes to get one basic Bahn Mi and one plain coffee, and they didn't even tell us when it was ready. read more

I wasn't quite impressed with their half turkey sandwich. It was something that I could have made at home. The turkey wasn't much and it didn't look like good quality turkey plus it was $3.95! The milk tea boba was better. They blend the ice with the milk tea so that you have a slushy consistency. They offer an array of food - crepes (sweet and savory), smoothies, italian sodas, Mitchell's ice cream, chips, cookies, etc. Very cute shop but I think that if I ever came here again, I would just go for the boba. read more

We were craving a semi-healthy meal and upon entering the post office across the street we saw this place. So after we finished mailing our stuff we headed over. We didn't end up getting a sandwich, but shared a caesar salad which was large enough to share. They also have ice cream, but unfortunately it appeared that they were out of the flavor I would have wanted (strawberries and cream). They had some good looking pastries and cookies. I really wanted a jam cookie with sprinkles, but unfortunately was too fool... not to mention I'm trying to practice better self control with food. Last Saturday, I had a good 45 minutes to kill between the third and fourth stops on the Hood Hunters: Solano Avenue excursion. A few days before the event, I scoured Yelp for some potential places of interest, and I bookmarked Tay Tah Cafe because of it's solid 4-star rating and the fact that they have Mitchell's ice cream and BOBAAA! Upon entering TTC, I noted that it had a number of things going for it aside from their selection of ice cream and boba drinks: - lots of free street parking in the immediate area - indoor and outdoor seating (there are also trees outside that provide ample shade on warm days) - their own restroom facilities - neat and tidy interior space I ordered their Thai tea w/ boba. There were two really friendly women working there that afternoon, and it took less than 5 minutes for my drink to come out. I enthusiastically took a big first sip of my Thai tea. And then there was utter confusion as my tastebuds registered... could it be? Buttered popcorn? I took another sip. And then another. Yup. Buttered popcorn! And not the movie theater kind, but the Jelly Belly jelly bean kind. I wish I didn't have to be the one to leave a 2-star review for this local shop, but I had a really bad experience this time around. I'm hardly ever in this particular area, but I don't rule out ever coming back here again. I'm not happy that I have to give a bad review of the place but looking at my credit card statement today reminded me that I spent $15 here, was not happy when I left, and therefore makes me feel I need to talk a little dirt. It looks cute and cheery from the outside. A few small tables and chairs on a quieter corner of Solano--why not give it a try? Inside, there is a lot to look at: a vast menu, a full pastry case, lots of ice cream, and junk food in case you really just need sugar/processed stuff/to remember what it was like to be in middle school. Service was friendly and pretty fast. All that was done well. When we got our mochas, they were OK but tasted like chocolate powder which is maybe standard but my snobby ass has gotten used to chocolate syrup at other coffee houses. The powder doesn't mix well, lacks creaminess, and tastes less like chocolate, and more like sugar. This wasn't a breaking point, just a slight let-down. A few other customers had tapioca teas (blended) that looked interesting and impressive. They seemed happy. The biggest bummer was that I bought two cookies and when I went outside to eat them, the first one tasted really terrible and dry. I only took a bite and didn't want any more. As petty as I feel admitting this, I went back in and told them that the cookie tasted bad, perhaps stale, and asked if they could refund me for the one I did not bite into. I don't expect them to sell it but I expect them to honor the customer and, if dissatisfied, try to make it right. They told me that the cookies were from that day so there was no reason why I wouldn't like them and no, they would not offer me a refund for the cookie. I have since gone to therapy and gotten over it ;) The point is, it is definitely not a destination, nor an utter abomination, but I don't feel like going back. And that would have been my conclusion had I written this review or not--but maybe others on yelp who were disappointed can share my momentary misery. read more

Rushed into today expected just to get a cup of tea; I was pleasantly surprised to find some vegan-friendly treats as well! $1.25 for day old vegan baked goods (their own house bakery, I assume...) and average $2.75 for the rest of the vegan baked goods. Serving size for the chocolate "banana bread" didn't look very large (maybe a deck of cards?) for $2.75 but it sure looked very rich. Plus $1.35 for a 16 oz of soy milk... makes this a nice vegan's cookies-and-milk snack spot. I didn't get a chance to sample too much of their menu, but was surprised to find that their smoothies all contained dairy (yogurt base, whey protein extra $0.75). Solely on the jasmine milk tea I got I think this place is a 3.5 stars. The boba is pretty mediocre, a little too soft or overcooked. The drinks come as a smoothie which you wouldn't expect but that's what makes this place kind of unique. The drink itself was well blended and there wasn't any ice chunks. I think the kicker to why I probably wouldn't come back is that the shop closed at 6pm on a weekday... Not sure if it's open longer during the other days but I had gotten there only 30 minutes and then I had to leave. How can a boba place possibly close at 6pm?! read more

This review is for their boba drinks only. I have not tried the food here! ---- Regrets using my "one boba a day" quota at this establishment. My boyfriend and I swung by for a boba drink after grabbing lunch at a nearby restaurant. Given our limited options since Albany isn't a hot spot for boba shops + the fact we like to support small, local businesses, we decided to give Tay Tah Cafe a shot. There's a pretty impressive drinks menu, but the drinks themselves were just okay... I got a Thai Tea with boba while my boyfriend got an Iced Coffee with boba. The boba balls were very hard and have clearly been sitting around for too long. Both the Thai tea and Iced Coffee drinks themselves were mediocre. The Thai tea did not taste like a Thai tea and it was oddly sweet and superficial tasting... You could barely taste the coffee for the Iced Coffee drink. There were also little sugar or ice particles mixed in with the drink alongside larger ice chunks. I wound up throwing my drink away without finishing it... Given that it was $5.30 a drink, that was a painful act. Sorry Tay Tah... I'm just not a fan of your boba drinks. read more

Small little cafe with lots of sandwiches and drinks. It's a nice stroll down Solano Ave, but parking is a little hard to find. I haven't tried any of their sandwiches yet, but I heard that their viet sandwiches are to die for. What I have tried is their drinks and they are absolutely delicious! My favorite drink is the Thai Ice Tea. Yummy!! Overall: I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or even a quick snack/drink! read more
