Best Boba ever. Friendly service, $3 Boba drinks (try the Thai and the milk tea). Also have a "hot" Boba option, which I've yet to try. They have ice cream- but if you're in the mood for that, I suggest hitting up "Eunice Gourmet Cafe" (2 doors down, toward San pablo Ave.) for their amazing Gelato. Maybe it was just because it was a holiday, even though it was not busy, slow service! The milk tea was good but warm however the boba not so much. Maybe I'm used to a sweeter boba. It was pretty hot and I decided to treat myself to a milkshake. Tay Tah offers ice cream, milk shakes, coffees and various other drinks. This is a small place with four or five small tables and a lot of take-out business. On the plus side, the Tay Tah staff person that took my order was friendly and cheerful. The shop serves Mitchell's Ice Cream, a premium brand made in San Francisco and they had a choice of about eight flavors. I opted for coconut ice cream that they called something else but subtitled "coconut with chunks." The young lady that prepared the milkshake was not as "into" her job as the order taker. She blended the milkshake and then, basically, murmured the name of the flavor and set the milkshake on a counter. I walked up to the counter and asked her if it was my coconut milk shake and she said, "It's a m-something milk shake. So, yeah, it's coconut." OK. Glad I asked. The shake was flavorful but it was full of ice chips. Apparently, the coconut ice cream had accumulated ice in the cold case. That happens when ice cream is stored in a case that is opened and closed a lot. Not a problem there. But, rather than scraping off the ice when scooping the ice cream for the milkshake, she'd just scooped the ice along with the ice cream. That's something that any soda jerk knows not to do as a lot of ice in a milkshake makes for a watery consistency and lumps of ice. That isn't something that one would expect in a small milkshake made with premium ice cream that costs $6. Bottom line. Quick, cheerful ordering process. Good quality foodstuffs. Not very good preparation and a bit surly on food presentation. Prices on the high end. I enjoyed my shake - even spitting out lumps of ice. But, I'd probably not go back. read more

This review is just for the Tapioca drinks. My hubby and son are total addicts! They would go here every day if they could. We go here at least twice a week. Last week I brought three friends to Tay Tah Cafe for tapioca drinks. After my friends ordered, I attempted to buy a drink when the cashier's card-swiping system mysteriously went down. The cashier tried to swipe my card again, but the transaction still wouldn't go through. I looked over and noticed that my drink had already been made. The cashier looked at me sympathetically and just said "sorry." So I sat there for a few awkward minutes as my friends drank their bubble tea and watched my drink melt from behind glass. I might not complain if I hadn't been to Tay Tah Cafe dozens of times over the past few years and spent a significant amount of money there on boba and sandwiches. Knowing that they would rather waste a perfectly good drink than give it to a regular customer just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. read more

For eating: Tay Tah is a wonderful little establishment. The food is great, well-priced and very fresh. Try the pumpkin soup if it's on the menu when you visit. They have a little sandwich order form that keeps the line moving, even during the lunch rush or during the Solano Stroll. For working: I am a free-lancer, and as such, I am always hunting for a new "office of the day." Not only do they not have wi-fi, the outlets are papered over with a cute little "please don't use our electricity" note. That's fair. It's a small-ish place, and they clearly aren't catering to those of us who prefer to pay our rent in lattes. Totally their prerogative, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. I've been coming here for over 6 years. Today I found out their hours changed (they close at 6 instead of 6:30) and they did not make changes to their business cards or changes on Yelp. Fine. It's understandable if this happened recently. Next, when I went to order my drink I asked the cashier if she could kindly help me consolidate my Tay Ta drink cards I have accumulated from my frequent visits and I am told, "I can't do that." I then asked why and the cashier simply replied with we are just not allowed to do that. It was just one stamp I wanted to consolidate with my card that had 2 stamps. It's easy. It's a piece of cake. When I asked to speak with the manager or owner the cashier also said she never knows when the owner or manager comes in. Which is probably a total lie. So basically after today, they have lost my business indefinitely because their employees are not allowed to do simple tasks. read more

The staff are universally nice, and they have a frequent (buy 10 get one 1 free) buyer card for beverages. I have had the pleasure of two visits to Tay Tah Cafe specifically to purchase a Smoothie. Week one I enjoyed the newest item called Berry Berry or something like that. Deliciously fruity, cold, thick and no sugar added, Week two today, I had the Breakfast smoothie. A large. This too was deliciously fruity, cold and thick, no sugar added. I am Type 2 Diabetic, controlled with exercise and diet. This did not push my sugars outside the "normal limits" In addition to the smoothies the other drinks, salads and sandwiches coming out to customers looked inviting. I've noticed this place for a while because of the "boba and ice cream" signs so I decided to wander in on a recent afternoon. The menu board is overwhelming. They have TONS of interesting sounding coffee drinks, sandwiches, salads and to my surprise and delight, a handwritten sign announcing they have Vietnamese sandwiches. Yay! The meat choices weren't traditional Banh Mi selections. Turkey and roast beef for Banh Mi? Weird... I went against my Banh Mi sensibility and decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, it wasn't horrible. The turkey meat was cold cut style, which certainly isn't authentic, but the sandwich was chock full of cilantro, jalapenos, carrots and cucumbers. It costs a bit more than a traditional Banh Mi, but it really wasn't that bad. They also have a good selection of Mitchell's ice cream. Something you don't find on this side of the Bay. read more

I recommend the regular black milk tea with tapioca. It comes blended like a frappucino/milkshake, so there aren't cubes of ice. There's a nice thick, creamy consistency to the drink. I can't remember how much it cost, but not much more than regular milk tea. Definitely worth trying :) read more

Desperate for internet and struggling for parking, I visited Tay Tah when I was scrambling to find internet to send in for a job offer that I really didn't want to be set back any further. They do have internet, only no outlets, and if you're looking to get things done, DO NOT come here close to 3pm since there is an elementary school across the street and it's absolute chaos inside the cafe. My laptop was nearly vomited on by an infant, a spastic 3rd grader nearly spilled her ice cream on it and my Tumi bag took a beating because it was so crowded in line to get a drink. Also, there are no outlets, so come with a fully charged lappy or be prepared to only get a few things done. I think all boba/tapioca drinks are blended into slushies unless asked for otherwise. Cute little cafe with ice cream, snacks and light lunch items like sandwiches, bagels and such. Not really a cafe where lots of people are working, but they do have free unrestricted wifi if you're in a jam. read more

I had the turkey vietnamese style sandwich with a taro bobba drink. For the little ones they make kid friendly food (PB&J for example) and sell organic juices (!). The space is comfy for groups inside and out and the staff was super friendly when I visited. I came with two kids in tow and found that the large windows were great for scoping out the buses and trucks that drive down solano, which the kids love. The picture book nook was also really cool, it helped me distract the kids while I finished my sandwich. I will next try to return kid free and see if my experience is any different. read more

Best coffee drinks on Solano Ave. And they have wonderful ice cream too! I don't usually go there for the food so I can't speak much to that, though the reputation is good. But the coffee is the best of all the many coffeehouses and cafes up and down the strip of trendiness that is Solano. I'm not sure what makes the difference, but the flavor of their coffees, even the iced espresso drinks and frappes, seems more pronounced and richer than anywhere else. I go out of my way to stop there for my afternoon cuppa. Beware the after-school kid crowds however. The youngsters are ill-mannered and will crash into you and each other in their haste for sugar. Best to go before or after the hordes have been through. They have outside tables as well as inside ones so you can sit and watch the world go by on a nice day. It's just out on the sidewalk, nothing fancy, but nice to have that option. Just a really nice little neighborhood place with a good variety and excellent coffee. The prices are much better than upper Solano as well which is in keeping with their neighborhood look and feel. read more

I've had the iced taro and thai iced coffee with boba and enjoyed them both! The Thai iced coffee isn't on the boba menu, just the "iced drinks" menu, but I just asked for it with boba - no problem. So happy that this place is near my work! This cafe plus my newfound office job right down the street is going to make me fat. I can already feel it within my belly. So they serve Mitchells Ice Cream here. If you've never had MItchells, then you're missing out dearly. I remember being a super fatty in college and just buying a whole tub of that neon purple Ube flavor and just being all fat all by myself in my room with just me and the purple stuff oh man times were good back then. Now that I know they serve it here, I get to be all purple in my own little corner cubicle. This cafe seems to cater to almost all of my tastes. Vietnamese sandwhiches? They got em. Boba? Plenty of different and flavorful...flavors. They even have a menu full of smoothies that rivals Jamba Juice. And to top it all off, they have toast with nutella. I would pay just to have a spoonful of nutella, so that simple combination of nutella and toast is just so perfect as a snack. Definitely going to become a regular here. I'm from Taiwan. I always come here to get the best Taiwanese style milk tea with boba when I miss my country or Friday after work or on weekends. I tried milk tea from other places around here in Albany but I still like it here the best. They made the best Boba. Not too soft not too hard. It also tastes sweet !!! Sometimes they run out of milk tea or closed for holidays. So I have called them last few times before I get there. This is a very cute & friendly store. I love this place for many o' reasons. First of all, have you seen the oodles and oodles of kids who tend to come in here at one time? Yet everyone behind the counter are able to process orders correctly and quickly. Secondly, they have frequent buyer cards that benefit you especially if you're a sandwich or coffee buying regular. The staff here is friendly and sweet and always greeting everyone with a smile. I come in often thankfully because I'm fortunate enough to be just a walk away from them. Their menu is extensive and reasonably priced. I usually get the 'choose your own sandwich' where I fill out the form and get one with errrrthang I like - turkey and bacon on wheat with mayo and lettuce. Simple but so delicious and freshly made.
