Initial D merch (Mar 2026)
Luke L.

*** Fujiwara Tofu Cafe will be closing its doors in March 2026 & focus more on merch via the online shop *** Fujiwara Tofu Cafe is an Initial D themed cafe located in El Monte (not formally endorsed by Initial D's creators) and the cafe has been hosting movie nights & dog gathering events. Unfortunately the cafe is closing the physical cafe in March 2026 and I decided to give this place a visit before the shop disappears. [Parking]: Usually the parking lot is pretty empty, but Fujiwara Tofu Cafe hosted the very last Park & Bark event (cars & dogs meetup with the shop's corgi - Hachi) so the lot was packed with customized Japanese cars. I came early enough & found one available spot to park. [Atmosphere]: S-tier interior decor as the entire cafe went all out on the whole Initial D theme from chairs, tables, countertops, merchandise, posters, signs, and glass cases of memorabilia. They even had Gashapon machines ($2.00 = 1 Gashapon token) and two Initial D Arcade Stage Version 3 machines (one machine was out of service). [Ordering]: Customers must order via kiosks and the shop only accepts credit cards (the shop does not accept cash). I came on a bad day as the Park & Bark event attracted a small crowd and I waited 40 minutes before my ordering number was called. The staff said they ran out of specific ingredient for tofu pudding and I ended up requesting to cancel my tofu pudding order. [Menu]: Yelp's top highlighted items are Fried Tofu and Brown Sugar Tofu. They offer Fujiwara Tofu Cafe paper bag for an extra $0.25 if customers need their items bagged. *** Fujiwara Fried Tofu (came with sweet and sour sauce - $6.86): Tofu pieces were actually fried quite nicely, but portion was pretty small. Fujiwara Plain Soymilk ($5.86): Soymilk itself tasted alright and didn't taste very concentrated, but I was disappointed that the plastic cup didn't have the signature "Fujiwara Tofu Cafe" logo on it. *** While I am a huge fan on the overall Initial D theme decor and merchandise, I have to give a big thumb down on slow service + small snack portion + ran out of multiple food/drink items.

Cute lil shop in a really empty plaza. I just came here after getting my tooth pulled. Dentist recommended me to have cold soft foods, and I was craving for tofu pudding...so it's a win win! I got the butterfly pea soy milk with agar boba and tofu pudding with black sesame paste (cold). Everything is sooo good! Hits all the right spots. I'll definitely be coming back.

Let me preface by saying I'm not a car enthusiast so car meet ups does not interest me. I came here to try their tofu dessert items and pick up some merchandise for a friend. I went the weekend of their 4th Anniversary (Congratulations, btw). The place is small. It's definitely not suitable for a large group to meet and catch up on life. You walk in and order from one of their two kiosks. I was never greeted by any employees here. I wasn't even sure how their pick up process operated. After I ordered from the kiosk, I waited nearly 15 minutes for my order. I only ordered one drink. Nobody from behind the counter called out a name or number. Customers would basically walk up to the pick up window and give them their order number. It was only until then, their orders were passed over to them. It was nice looking at the memorabilia they had in store. They also had two arcade/video games, but one was out of service. Inside the establishment was very stuffy and hot. It was a hot, sunny afternoon when I went and the sun was shining directly into the business. I wished they had shade or blinds to reduce the brightness and warm temperature in there. My drink wasn't very good. I can't even remember what it was, but it tasted like watered down soy milk. Maybe most of the positive reviews were from those who attended their night meet ups because based on customer service and food alone, it wasn't anything to brag about. I really hoped for a better experience. Not sure if I'll come back again.

A great hangout place. It is located right next to the 10 freeway. You can take the rosemead exit or baldwin exit to get there. Fedex is right next door and there is a starbucks right across. The theme of this shop is based on the anime initial D. Not your typical boba shop place because majority of their drinks are soy related. They also have initial D arcade machine for people to pay and play. It closes around 10pm everyday however it tends to get quite by night because alot of the store in the plaza closed early and the area is surrounded by office buildings and businesses store that close early. Their have soy related drinks and tofu pudding which its high recommended! Hot or cold regardless is one of their signature things to order!! Be aware though because sometimes they will host car-meet and on those days / nights, the plaza and surrounding streets are usually packed with cars so you won't be able to find parking.

Come visit before they close down this Sunday. The owner said he's going to open another spot but doesn't know where yet. Follow them on instagram for updates. There's lots of parking and the inside has cute decor. I visited later in the day so most of the items were sold out, come early if you want the fried tofu items. Most if the drinks are tofu or soy milk based. It is not like the typical boba store.

Cool little Initial D themed cafe! Luckily we were in socal when there was a car meet hosted in the parking lot. They have a variety of interesting drinks with soy stuff Emperor - my friend really liked it, good if you're into sesame Soy cream green tea - wasn't as good as i was hoping. The tea wasn't very strong, but my friend seemed to like it

Cute little tofu cafe. I went with the cold tofu with black sesame and it was great. It's well decorated and a fun place to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. Not quite somewhere I'd go out of my way for. Plenty of parking in the lot. Digital payment only. Fast service.

[July 30, 5:58PM] Dine-in order Order: - Fujiwara Tofu Pudding w/Osmanthus Pearl (3.5/5): The boba was chewy, and tofu tasted fine. Not really fond of the flavor of the flower that was sprinkled on top of the tofu. I had to ask for extra syrup because there was barely enough to go with the top layer of the tofu. Maybe the restaurant can give syrup on the side for customers to adjust to their liking. - Fujiwara Classic Spicy Tofu (4/5): Flavor is ordinarily good. Since the store uses paper bowls, I noticed that the soup/oil started to soak into the cup, leaving orange marks throughout the cup. I was expecting something more unique in terms for flavor, but nothing really stood out to me. -Fujiwara Zone (Black Sticky Rice Coconut Soymilk) (2.5/5): The store only offered 0%, 50%, or 100% sugar level, so I went with 50%. The drink tasted like unsweetened soymilk that you can buy from the store. Maybe 100% sugar would taste better. I like the vibe inside, the decorations are one of a kind but I don't really see myself coming back again for the food or drinks.

A little difficult to locate for my first visit. Coming northbound from Rosemead Blvd, my GPS had me go towards the I-10, but there is also a way by turning right onto Telstar Ave. I went yesterday, Wednesday, around 3 pm, and it was not busy. Parking was easy; it is located in a plaza. TBH, there's not much in the plaza aside from a Starbucks and Del Taco. Upon entering, we were greeted by a voice behind the counter. You can order at the kiosks or online ahead of time, and they do not accept cash. Very minimal interaction with the staff, except for picking up your order in the back. I ordered an Emperor (Black Sesame Soymilk w/ Tofu Pudding) with 50% sweetness, and my brother got Night Kids (Ovaltine Soymilk with Mochi) with 50% sweetness. Mine tasted like it was not sweet at all, maybe it's the tofu, but next time I'll try 100%. Apart from the sweetness percentage, the drinks are not customizable, so I couldn't add boba, which was a bummer. However, the selection of drinks is pretty unique, so I understand. The interior is predominantly black and white, inspired by an anime. There are a lot of car and racing themes. I definitely will be back to try their tofu snacks and desserts.

Came here for the last weekend they were open. Really cute themed cafe with tofu drinks. The were having a car meet outside so parking wasn't easy but had lots of fun

If you like Cantonese dessert tofu, this place is for you! This is basically as close as it gets to being in Hong Kong. Quality of the tofu is amazingly smooth. The soup is sweet with a hint of ginger. They have a few varieties such as red beans or taro or black sesame if you want to get fancy. But for me the traditional ones is still better. Good for take out since seating here isn't exactly comfortable. But quality won't degrade even if you take it out which is a plus!

Finally had the chance to check out Fujiwara Tofu Cafe in El Monte. I've been craving HK authentic tofu pudding for a while and this place is pretty good! They offer various toppings and even a fun drink menu. I got an original hot tofu pudding and a tofu pudding with red bean! Both delicious and their service is straightforward. You'd first order on their kiosks, and they even have a pup tofu pudding with no brown sugar and a cute bone on top! My dog loved it! Dog approved!! The store itself is super cute and anime car-themed. For all of my car enthusiasts, this is the spot for you--check out their car simulation games!

We've been to almost all of them in SoCal being locals and we've agreed that this is the most disappointing location. CityWalk's Kitty Cafe's drinks are lazy, I'd say they're uninspired. I would only recommend the lemonade, as it was fresh and sweet. As for the other drinks, it was like adding shaved ice flavoring and dumping into it into a cup of ice water. Next, you sell it for a high price. The desserts are DRY! The only saving grace for the small cake we tried was the frosting. We disposed of the rest, such a shame! Our cashier was also quite confused and condescending. I did not like his vibe, it's not cute being a passive aggressive person. I seriously hope this location works out the kinks. I found the location had cute bistro tables, there's potential here. However, they need to fix their cafeteria-looking shopfront. Note: Character meet-n-greets are available on select days. Also, a Sanrio store can be found next door.

The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and everyone working there was so nice. We were served by a wonderful Caucasian maid, and we also noticed a cute Korean maid taking care of some other tables--the whole staff was super friendly and really added to the charming, positive vibe of the cafe. One thing that really stood out to me was their retail section. They have a surprisingly solid selection of Japanese trading card games like Weiss Schwarz, Hololive, and Pokémon, alongside some manga. It's an awesome touch if you're a fan of the hobby or just want something interesting to browse while waiting for your order. As for the food, I had to try the classic maid cafe staple: the omurice. I ordered the curry omurice, complete with the signature cute ketchup art drawn right on the egg. It was hearty, flavorful, and definitely hit the spot. We also tried a couple of their specialty iced espresso drinks, including the tiramisu latte. They were topped generously with whipped cream and tasty crumbles. The drinks are definitely on the richer, sweeter side, making them feel like a dessert in themselves. If you're into Japanese gaming and anime culture, or just looking for a cafe experience that's a bit out of the ordinary with fantastic service and indulgent drinks, this place is absolutely worth a visit.

I had to ring the bell for her to acknowledge us again to take our order. We ordered the omurice and pork katsu. The omurice was a poor impression of one and rather just a hard omelette with rice inside paired with curry. The pork katsu was crispy and juicy. I think overall it's an okay experience that I don't think much of and would not really need to return to. Fast service otherwise and there was parking in the small lot.

We went for an early-ish lunch, so the options were much more limited compared to dinner. One of our friends has gone for dinner before, and that was much livelier with a much MUCH better menu option. I did take this into consideration as otherwise lunch review for a Sunday would be closer to 3 stars. From outside the cafe to inside, everything was really cute. They have a mascot, which is shown outside and in as well. Enter, and there's a wall of merch you can see and buy. There was another door in that room that takes you to the main dining area, but before it opens, they tell you a lil chant with movements to do. Pretty cool! We were then seated and given our menus. There are combinations which included a photo with a maid. We ended up getting 2 food combos (meal, drink, photo), a dessert combo (dessert, drink, photo), and a drink combo (drink, photo) to all share. The menu had a lot of options, but the food wasn't actually available (darn, was looking forward to some maid drawn omu-rice!), as it was lunch and that was a separate menu. Some items from that were unavailable, so we were super limited with what we could order re food. We ended up trying the following - Miso Salmon - lol, not great. The sides / veggies were better IMO, but they were really small portions. Chicken Teriyaki - the other 3 thought it was pretty good, and I thought it was just mid. Lack of flavor, but chicken texture was decent. Matcha Parfait Dessert Thingy - forgot the actual name of it, but it was pretty! Our maid drew on this which made it special. Taste-wise was fine. Various Drinks - I got a cold brew with tiramisu foam, and that was quite enjoyable. She drew a dog on the foam. Cute! A friend got the coffee with sea salt foam and she requested a fish be drawn. The best LOL. Another got their magic lemonade which was pretty cool! The mixing and such was fun to watch. My daughter got the oreo oat milk drink and she requested a cat to be drawn. Our maid was really nice and explained things extremely well. For the photos, she helped us with standard poses and we all left with a lil polaroid with our experience. Many of the clientele when we were there were solo male, which was what we saw in Tokyo as well. Some groups too. There were a lot of similarities with this maid cafe and the ones we visited in Tokyo, and some differences do include quality of the frequent visitor card (actual plastic card in Tokyo versus paper card here) and the photo came in a frame booklet thingy in Tokyo compared to just the photo here. Would come back for dinner to check that out though!

I've been here twice and really like it…read more First, the drinks. They range from $1.99-$3.99...talk about throwback pricing. Reading th menu made me feel like it was 1999 all over again. Price aside, the drinks are good and on par with what you would find at typical boba shops. The food is where this place really shines. They have a large menu, ranging from rice to noodles to grilled meats served on a hot plate. I got the $21 NY steak today, which was a generous portion, served with sliced onions, corn, broccoli and choice of rice or spaghetti. It's not Morton's but, c'mon, $21 for a steak fix these days is a heck of a deal. Most of their entrees are in the $14-18 range. To top it off, the service is great - attentive and very friendly. Free parking lot in the back.

Unfortunately they have discontinued their weekday combo menu making it less worth the drive for us…read moreso we're not sure when we'll next be back. The good news is, their chicken steak is still just as yummy! We ordered: - Grilled chicken steak with black pepper sauce and spaghetti (4/5): Super crispy skin and juicy chicken. The black pepper sauce adds a fragrant touch - much better pairing than the mushroom sauce we got on a previous visit. The spaghetti portion is smaller than at most other HK cafes and isn't as good though. - Baked sole filet with rice and white sauce (3/5): Had high expectations for this dish but it didn't quite meet them. The rice used was plain white rice which isn't what I'm used to at other HK cafes and it left me a bit disappointed since it meant the dish was much more monotone in flavor and there were bites that were unflavorful. The fish itself was generously portioned and easy to eat with the warming cheese and white sauce combo. Wouldn't get again only because I know other spots that do it much better but decent overall. - Beef stew with noodle (3/5): Had expected this to be dry style with the beef stew over softened egg noodles but it came out as a soup. Beef pieces were tender and generous. Egg noodles were a bit overcooked. - Sticky Rice Dim Sum: They were massive and decent in flavor. They were a little mushy I think because it had been steaming a while (which was probably why they were quick to be served) but we didn't mind - Siumai: Generous amount of fish egg on top and was pleasantly meaty. We found parking in the front but also know there's a lot in the back. The restaurant itself is big and pretty empty and quiet. We were glad that service was friendly and quick this visit since the first time we were there one of the servers gave us attitude.
