The best thing about this place was the huge jumbo glass of iced tea they give you, its well worth the $2.00. Other than that the steamed rice aint to shabby either. Its as if you stepped into a time warp when you walk into this little joint. I do love the wallpaper, paisley asiany pasiley, from the 60s. The ladies that work here were very nice and on top of their game. But when it came to the food, well to put it bluntly it was AWFUL! Chocked full of MSG and Sodium. My cup of hot and sour soup was a a hot and spicy salty gravy , nothing soupy about it! The kung pao chicken was YUCKY, and while my plate was filled with celery and bambbo to the brim, there was seriously no joke, not lying 6 tiny frazzled grizzly lil bits of chicken. It was sad. They need to stick to their other business tacked on to the side of this joint- its a tea and coffee drive thru, let the restaurant go. I rarely come up to Humboldt County, but now I know for sure , I will not return to this place ever again :( read more

I have only had food to go from here on two occasions. I remember liking what I had the first time which was months ago but I don't remember thinking that I should eat in there when I picked up my food. I ordered again last week, it was some chicken and veg lunch combo and chow mein. Not happy with it - chicken was mush, chow mein was greasy, mushrooms were obviously from a can and broccoli looked almost like cauliflower. I did not feel good about eating there. Also, there is a small parking lot with like five spots in front of the restaurant but there is more parking on the side. read more

Stopped in for a quick to go order of chicken fried rice and crab puffs. What a mistake that was. Such a simple order one would think so. My fried rice had very little chicken with no egg, peas, or carrots. My crab puffs were descent but not worth the price. This was my first and sadly I have to say my last visit. If you can't make a simple plate of chicken fried rice you might want to check the food coming out of your kitchen before you lose more business. read more

Just ordered from this place for the first and last time it was honestly inedible. We threw away 40$ worth of food for being that gross. Chowmein was nothing but celery...and had no taste to it what so ever. The Szechuan chicken and orange chicken was super extra breaded and was so soggy (not cooked through). This review is for the tea garden cafe, not the cool Beanz coffee shop. My colleague and I tried this place today and it was almost enidible. We both got the orange chicken lunch special and the taste , color , and texture of the chicken was something I have never tasted before. The fried rice was more like plain white rice with soy sauce and the won tons were soaking in the orange sauce. Won't be going back to try again. read more

It all started with the water. We were so thirsty but could not drink it, tap water from the bathroom would have tasted better. The salad was very plain and odd tasting. My friends liked their soup but soon felt sick from it (except for the Wonton soup that was just hot water). Orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken was very basic, the sauce was thin and barely had any flavor to it. Noodles had a weird texture even for being fried. I did enjoy the brown rice and cheese puffs and that's about it. The ladies there were really nice, everything was clean, and we did not have to wait long at all. I have been enjoying this families food for the last 39 years. It is by far the best Chinese food in Humboldt county. In all the years I have dined with them not once do I recall ever having a bad meal. We have also had many birthday dinners with 20 plus people and not one complaint, there food and serves is the best. ( and it is still affordable) the decor may be dated but it is clean. Went for the first time every last night with my other half. I had the #4 combo dinner (sweet and sour pork, chicken almond chow mein, and fried shrimp), he had General Tso's beef. His was very flavorful and spiced just right. Everything on my plate was just what I wanted. Hot and fresh, and hit the spot. The rice was flavorful and a half order was a large portion. First off all it was 15$ which I do not ever remember it being that much for one entre. secondly, the prawns were not prawns they were regular shrimp. The shrimp were not devained (which is DISGUSTING, why would I want to eat shrimp poop) and they were supposed to be lightly breaded but whatever breading they put on ( I think panko) was disgustingly soggy! no crunch at all. the candied walnuts were burnt, and their was literally NO honey sauce on my shrimp. worst meal ever...oh ya and they charged me extra for brown rice and then gave me fried rice.... read more
