Just ordered take out from Tea Garden. I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a few basics to try: crab rangoon good but the filling was a little thin; egg roll was large and had a good simple flavor; kung fu chicken was fried and sweet with a little heat.....could be a little hotter but the flavor was good. Our kids love the ultimate boring chinese food which is sweet and sour chicken. The portion was huge and kids were pleased by TOTAL lack of vegetables.....not for me, but a total hit for the kids. Mushu pork, filling was good but the pancakes were dried and cracked. Free orange chicken came with the order (this was a 3rd fried chicken dish, a little too much batter and fried for me, but it was a good flavor). Finally, the kicker for me was that after I got home and we ate, they called us up (I assume they got the caller ID from the order) and asked how the food was! Portions, flavor, etc. I gave them my feedback above and they thanked me for it and promised that the pancakes would be fresher next time. I really respect a restaurant that calls to check to see if you enjoyed their food. We will patronize them again and see how well they respond to the feedback. The location is not convenient to foot traffic being in the same complex off beltline that houses Culver's. I hope they can overcome it, continue to improve and became a staple of the area. read more

This is a favorite Chinese takeout for me! They prepare all the food fresh and quickly at lunch time and in the evening. I would say the food is Americanized, but none the less great! I am a huge fan of the crab ragoons and the egg rolls. My husband must get the bourbon chicken as they are the only one we have found in town that makes it fresh. They always get my order right (I add and substitute vegetable often) and they offer free crab ragoons with minimum orders paid in cash. You know, for a little strip mall take-out Chinese place this was all right for my first visit last night as I was feeling like Chinese but didn't want to do a full sitdown experience at one of the other places. For me, the three stars means this place was doing what it intends to do - - hot food with good flavor at an appropriate price. Nothing fancy it's a takeout joint with a few tables but not really someplace you'd want to do more than a quick lunch at as the ambience is a fast food equivalent. This place is located in the strip mall right behind culvers on beltline across from the tire place and woodland mall. In terms of food we had orange chicken, chicken lo mein and a chicken with vegetable dish and they threw in crab Rangoon's and eggrolls for us. I also got the egg drop soup. Total was $29. Soup was fine, all the dishes were hot and relatively flavorful and surprisingly not overly salty. Eggrolls were pretty respectable. I wouldn't go out of my way to get to this place but when I want quick inexpensive Chinese it'll be on the list. read more

This would be 1 star if it weren't for the fact I'm not going to get sick on the food. So for food safety, I give them a bonus star. Tastes like they reheated the PF Chang's frozen meals. Spring rolls are unremarkable as is the crab Rangoon. While nothing tastes bad, nothing tastes authentic even from an American-Chinese stand point. I could make this ish at home. No depth of flavor, veggies are the only thing that taste fresh. General Tsos tastes no different than Sesame Chicken and small, small, small chunks of dark meat. Sadly Asian cuisine in GR is the worst I've had in my lifetime having lived in 4 states including the Bay Area, CA. Even my small hometown in Missouri fairs better. If you aren't in the mood for sushi then head to Kalamazoo for Hunan Gardens or Joy Fong which have a more dynamic flavor profile. read more

I ordered the bourbon chicken lunch special, and I'm kinda pissed I wasted even 6 bucks on this food. I got one measly little scoop of bourbon chicken that looked stale and tasted old and chewy. I got a pile of veggies that looked promising but were so under-cooked I actually got fibers stuck in my teeth. The rice had nothing in it, not even onion bits or carrots, just plain overcooked mushy fried rice. The only thing good about it at all was the ONE crab rangoon they put in there, it was delicious, but hardly makes up for the total failure the rest of the meal was. read more

Since it opened, tea garden became my number one take out place in GR. I've never had a bad meal or experience. Super fresh food with delightful people serving. I also commend the new owners who were family to the previous owners for keeping an authentic and flawless transition. For inexpensive quick food this place is great. It is clean and food arrives quickly if you just stop in. The only thing I would avoid is the hot and sour soup which is thin and strangely both too hot and too sour at the same time. Excellent sweet and sour shrimp, tender, delicately battered and lightly fried, in nice small bite-size pieces.. My two compatriots both had the shrimp lo mein, and reported it was prepared exactly the way they like it, moist, not oily, cooked evenly. Eggroll also very light and delicate. read more

Right off the bat, we walked in to 2 young kids running around. It was very cute at first, but a little obnoxious while eating. Overall the food is pretty good, the sweet and sour chicken and egg rolls in particular, but the ambience killed it for us. My husband, son and I were craving Chinese so we picked this up to bring home. We loved the crab Rangoon and we were glad we got a lot of them! The filling melts in your mouth and the flavor is perfection. I would definitely recommend steamed chicken with vegetables. All of the veggies were just how I like them, fresh! The broccoli and green beans were bright and had a nice snap to them. (Not limp, dark and mushy.) The white meat chicken was cut thin and I loved the Garlic Sauce & the fact that it came in a separate container so I didn't have my food soaking in it for the ride home. Same for the sweet and sour sauce. Such a smart idea. My husband enjoyed the cashew chicken which he had made to order with no mushrooms and extra spicy. We all shared the chicken fried rice which had cubed cuts of chicken, which we all agreed was delicious. This is my first Yelp review I felt compelled to write. Yum!
