    Pad see ew
    Ying Z.

    My boyfriend and I were excited to try Song Wat since it opened. We have a big mangrove kitchen-sized hole in our heart ever since it closed down. Our waitress was really kind, and it seemed like it was just her holding it down for Saturday lunch shift. The menu is small and creative and unlike many thai restaurants in SF. For instance, they don't even offer a pad thai. There are some ingredients I don't usually see like stinky beans. We weren't too hungry so we ordered a pad see ew with chicken and the yum duck salad with thai taco. The duck salad was interesting because it came with essentially a wafer like shell to eat with the salad. The shell was like a waffle cone, a little too sweet, and not thing enough to be a taco shell. It was a bit hard to eat, but it was easier when we broke it up into chip piece and scooped the salad that way. I liked how the salad came with pomelo. The flavors were a bit too strong, strong in acidity and savoriness. But I did think it was creative. For the pad see ew, this also felt different from what I usually see because they sprinkled white pepper powder on top. I really enjoy white pepper powder, so we liked this dish. But, I can see how the flavors can be a bit too strong for other people. Ultimately I think it's a cool place to try out and try food that might be new to you. It was a bit pricey for what we ended up getting, so I'm not sure how often we would visit.

    This is a lovely restaurant! Warm ambiance and very pleasant staff members. The food was good and fresh. I loved the chicken wings but heads up, I thought they were quite spicy. The kua mee kati was tasty and a little sweet, although I felt like the added chicken could have used a little more flavor. The pad see ew with pork belly was great and flavorful. We enjoyed our experience here!

    Prawns tom yum, chicken pad see ew, smoked duck salad

    Ordered takeout from here on a Wednesday evening. We got tom yum soup with prawns, chicken pad see ew, and the smoked duck salad. Everything was delicious! I was pleasantly surprised at the number (5) and size of prawns (huge) in the tom yum soup; it had a nice kick to it but wasn't too strong. Smoked duck salad was light and refreshing; flavors went really well together with the black sesame waffle taco shells. Chicken pad see ew is exactly what you expect; a little sweet and savory at the same time. Prices are pretty typical for SF and portion sizes were appropriate. The restaurant itself is super cute on the inside; will need to try eating there next time! Recommend giving them a try if you're craving Thai food.

    Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. This spot just opened and I'm pretty sure I sprinted here like I was training for the Olympics. Had to even add the Yelp page myself because there was NO way I was gatekeeping this. From the second you walk in, it hits you. The decor is loud in the best way possible. Colors, details, little touches everywhere. It's the kind of place where you're still noticing new things halfway through your meal. But let's be real... you're not here just to look around. The food? Yeah... this the one. Every bite took me straight back to Thailand without the 16 hour flight, jet lag, or arguing with airline seat recline etiquette. The flavors are bold, unapologetic, and actually taste authentic not watered down "tourist Thai." You can tell whoever is behind the kitchen knows exactly what they're doing and isn't cutting corners. This isn't just good food. This is the kind of place that makes you pause mid bite, look at the person you came with, and go "nah this is crazy." If you're even thinking about trying it, stop thinking. Just go.

    Loved the ambience and vibe at Song Wat -- great spot for a night out. Service was excellent too, very attentive throughout the meal. I'm not usually a beer drinker, but the mango sticky rice Thai craft beer (not in pictures) was a pleasant surprise and I'd order it again. The beef skewers were the standout dish of the night, easily the best part of the meal. My one gripe was that the food ran a bit too salty for my taste. Overall it was a really enjoyable experience, and I'd be open to giving it another try in a few months to see if my take on the food changes. Taking away one star for the sodium level, but everything else was great.

    Delicious Thai food with authentic flavors Every dishes we ordered was flavorful,fresh and well-presented.The chicken wings and shrimp dishes (Sator Goong) were standouts. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Highly recommend!

    I had high hopes for Song Wat, but it seems like a flip of Mangrove with the same issues (refreshed interior design though). Small portions, a bit bland, and just not great overall.

    new thai restaurant on divis and page! the vibes are pretty cool, a mesh between traditional street food and modern bar. the menu isn't huge but has some unique/ more local items. we tried the kua mee kati and pad see ew, both were too sweet for our liking but the portions were generous

    I was worried when Mangrove Thai closed up its store front. Now, I'm relieved to know this is what replaced it... If you're a lover of Pad Thai and Pad See Ewe, this place offers some of the best. The prawns are massive, the noodles are delicious. The appetizers I've tried are outstanding and the portions are wonderfully generous. Their menu is delightfully simple and the decor is covered with charming vintage poster art. They typically jam 70s, 80s Thai pop music, sometimes surfy, other times psychedelic. It's a vibe, and the seats are comfy. To be fair and more critical - I've ordered their pork belly and been very disappointed. It was overcooked and gristly. But I can't count it against them yet - I can tell they're working some new-business kinks out, and the good I've had here far outweighs that one experience. This establishment joins the higher ranks of the up and coming post-Covid Divisadero offerings. Even with Katsuo & Kombu, Nepa, GiGis, and Pho Divis gracing the neighborhood, Song Wat should not be slept on.

    Amazing food and beautiful presentation. The Miang Kum was my favorite such a unique combination of flavors. The beef in the Massaman curry was incredibly tender, and the duck salad was fresh and full of flavor. Everything tasted authentic and well-balanced. The mango sticky rice was the perfect ending (;

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

The portion size was nice and large, and the mochi on top was so soft and chewy. The salted duck egg topping tasted like the filling in the lava egg yolk buns from dim sum, so earthy and rich and sweet with a perfect umami hit. It paired perfectly with the milky, not too sweet shaved ice. I love salted duck yolk everything and this is yet another item to add to that list! Naya is a bit pricy but so worth it for that bingsoo.

We originally went to the location near Union Square, thinking we'd be able to grab pastries and hot chocolate, only to realize it's primarily a retail shop with chocolate bars and merchandise. We ended up making our way to the Valencia Street location, and I'm so glad we did. We learned that it used to be the original factory before they outgrew the space. Production has since moved a few blocks away, and now this location offers classes, a café, and plenty of chocolate treats. While we were there, a chocolate-making class was in session, and it was fun to watch part of it. The instructor even came over to chat with us and answer a few questions, which was such a nice personal touch. We ordered the brownie bite flight along with a hot chocolate, and both were fantastic. The brownie flight was rich, flavorful, and a fun way to sample different chocolates. The hot chocolate came with a tiny cookie that was absolutely delicious. At first, we were a little disappointed because we thought our hot chocolate was supposed to come with a marshmallow and didn't see one. When we mentioned it, the instructor smiled and showed us a toppings station we had completely missed. There were homemade marshmallows, flavored sugar cubes, and other little extras you could add yourself. He even encouraged us to take a few extra marshmallows, and they were some of the best I've ever had. One thing to know before you go is that Dandelion Chocolate focuses on high-quality chocolate that isn't overly sweet. If you're expecting the sugary milk chocolate flavor of a candy bar, this is a different experience. The chocolate has a richer, more complex flavor, and we really enjoyed trying something different. Between the friendly staff, delicious treats, and unique experience, I'd definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary--just make sure you head to the café location if you're looking for food and drinks!
