I've been on a taro smoothie craze recently, trying all the boba spots around. This might be my 4th taro smoothie this week and it's only Thursday :') This place shares the plaza with Target and many other stores so it's easy to find parking. The cashier was very friendly and the menu was self explanatory. Service was speedy, so I was in and out in under 10 minutes with my smoothie and bbq pork bahn mi. Taro smoothie was good (powdered taro) and the almond pudding was firmer than I'm used to but it was good! I haven't found a place in Reno that makes taro smoothie with real taro yet (like Boba Guys) and I feel like I never will, but that's okay. The bahn mi was also good. Had this place bookmarked for awhile & seen so many of my friends get boba from this place , but have yet gone myself till this past Sunday. It is a little out of my way since I live in Sparks, but i was in this part of town since I stopped by the South Reno Target. Didn't know this place was right in front of it until I was exiting and thought why not try it now. Went in , really simple but cute boba shop & not too busy for a Sunday afternoon. Unlike some of the other regular boba shops in Reno, this place had the traditional boba shop food you'd see if you were in SoCal or Vegas. Which is a plus. But what really impressed me was the fact that you can choose the option of what sweetness level you want for your drink. Which i don't believe a lot of the boba places in Reno give you the option and are made the way it is. (Which if you didn't know , boba is extremely full of sugar on its own) I got the Jasmine Milk Tea with 0% sugar level and actually enjoyed it. WARNING they charge a fee if you use card instead of cash with no warning for the fee. You dont know unless you get a receipt. My first thoughts when walking in was that the room was very cutesy but then I saw an employee sittting near the door on her phone without a mask. It made me feel a little unsafe as a customer in covid-19 life but at least all the other workers including the one working the register had masks on. Their menu was easy to read and it was easy to order and pay for my tea contactless, but had i not asked for a receipt i would necer of known about the card fee. I finally gave it a try and sadly I'm not a fan of the tea nor the boba itself. These drinks are loaded with sugar, milk, cream, or what-have-you. Hence 'milk tea'. You can choose to use dairy, non-dairy, sweetness level, toppings, etc. Nonetheless, my rating is simply for friendliness of the owners and the creativity within the Reno location. I was very excited to try Tealeaf after seeing my friends posting about it on social media. I really wanted to like it and even gave it a shot 3 different times. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my experiences. I'm definitely a loyal milk tea drinker and tend not to stray to the flavored teas which they do have a great selection of. The first drink I tried was their Jasmine MT with pudding and boba. I was so excited to try because finding egg pudding in Reno is rare! You can customize your ice and sweetness level similar to other places in town. At regular sweetness and ice, I felt like my drink actually wasn't sweet enough, the boba was inconsistently cooked, and the egg pudding was sort of broken up and granulated, floating all around the drink instead of in solid, smooth chunks, which is why I think it wasn't sweet enough. My friend ordered a vietnamese coffee right after me and wanted to add boba but I had apparently gotten the last of it in my drink so she passed on boba. No big deal though, and the coffee still tasted great! The next time, we ordered snacks with our drinks as well. This time I got a thai tea with boba and we got vietnamese coffee with boba. They were again out of large boba so we opted for the mini boba. Once again, the mini boba were very inconsistently cooked: some were actually still hard. Food wise, we got the vietnamese sandwich, pate chaud, and summer rolls. The sandwich was small and didn't have a lot of stuff in it. The summer rolls also had their honey bbq pork in it which was good in both items. The peanut sauce was a strange consistency and was sort of watery/runny? The pate chaud was also inconsistent...parts of it were warm, while others were cold, it was kind of bland and the part in the middle tasted like a shrunken, dry meat patty. After two times we gave it one more shot thinking maybe the first time was an off day and maybe the second was because they were just really busy. The third time they again didn't have large boba so we got uncooked mini boba, and they were again very busy and the girl at the register sort of half jokingly said "I wish people would just stop coming!" which was kind of off putting as a customer. For me, this would not be my regular go-to boba place, and I wouldn't go out of my way to South Reno for it. Hopefully after they get into a groove it will be better. Definitely willing to try again in the future, but for now I'll stick to other shops in town. read more

Boba is boba. In my opinion, that statement is pretty accurate. When I visit a boba spot I typically see the same array of colorful powders, pitchers of tea, and crazy combination of add-ins. All assembled the finished product is just about the same everywhere. That said, I do tend to enjoy this beverage as a special treat. The fun flavors you can pick and the snack-like boba you get to munch on while drinking your tea make it an overall fun experience! Reno seems to be bursting with boba shops these days and I've been sampling quite a few. Atmosphere is light, airy, bubbly, and so perfect for taking pics! For me, this treat tends to be a lot sweeter than I can stand, so I loved the fact you can pick your sweetness level at Tealeaf. Their toppings list is a mile long too, so you'll never be bored. I'm a purist so I stick to a flavored milk tea with large boba. The time we stopped in they'd actually run out of large boba so we tried the minis. While I wouldn't do it every time, the minis were really fun and would be cool mixed with the large ones! So why four stars? The biggest reason is the .50 charge for using a credit card. We live in a primarily cashless society, and it's unfair to penalize your customers for using a valid form of payment. Beyond that, most credit card processors charge 3% or less, meaning .15 on a $5 drink. At .50 you're making .35 margin on each transaction. If it were 5% it would still only be .25. In addition, the flavoring in the tea we ordered hadn't quite dissolved, so it was a little chalky/gritty. I'm excited to return and try some of the food they serve. Love the tea. Hold the boba. We walked in and having never tried boba tea I had no idea what to ask for. The lady at the counter was nice and assisted in my decision of what to get. This is a review on their boba. I got jasmine milk tea, no sugar, no ice, and with boba. The boba was too soft and it wasn't really chewy (I prefer a chewy texture). Maybe it was overlooked. asked for no ice and got no ice. However, the tea was warm and the cup was warm too. I expected the tea to still be cold even without ice. All the other places I've been to shake the drink with ice and then drain the drink. The tea flavor was strong but it didn't taste milky at all. What a cute little boba shop! We came in for some boba drinks after our dinner. I ordered their waffle ice cream. It's a bubble waffle with a giant scoop of ice cream. I opted for their coffee ice cream. I had to wait a little bit longer for my ice cream since they make the waffle fresh. They offer a variety of drink options and some hot snack foods. I thought this place was only a boba place, I did not expect it to have rice dishes and pho! This place has it all. I ordered the rice dish with honey bbq and it was incredible! It was a little crispy on the edges but soft and sweet. They even cooked their rice a little differently-almost paella style with some crunchy bits. I also ordered one of their soup specials on a different visit, but that was lacking in flavor. It was mostly just noodles. I think a bit of hoisin sauce could've fixed that, but they didn't have any. And of course I ordered boba. I first had the mango smoothie with boba and I loved it! I'm picky about mango flavors, but this one was a perfect mix of sweet and tangy. On the other hand, their avocado was okay, because it still had chunks of unblended avocado and it didn't taste fresh. On another visit I ordered green tea ice cream with waffle. The ice cream was classic and the waffle accompanied it so we all. It was soft, sweet and only a little warm so it didn't melt the ice cream. Review #143 - 2019 After our not so good drinks from Bubble Tea Station, I decided to search for another place to grab my drink & we ended up here. We showed up around 6:30 PM & the place was empty. The kids weren't actually in the mood for anything so my nephew, the only one who was actually smart enough not to get a drink at Bubble Tea, decided to get a taro smoothie with boba and he said it was good. I got the only fresh fruit smoothie that's offered here, which is the avocado smoothie, and it was pretty good. It was pretty bland, but I didn't mind that they don't add any extra sugar to my drink. I don't need the extra fat any ways. My son was actually hungry so he ordered a combination fried rice, which they all decided to share & said it was actually really good. Unfortunately, the portion is quite small here so I guess we should've ordered another one; but we were planning to have AYCE KBBQ for dinner, I didn't want them to over eat before dinner. The place is actually cute & clean. I guess they were in the process of getting ready to clean up for the evening when we showed up since the lady was mopping the front. The Vietnamese sandwich here is generic and doesn't use the right kind of meat. They use regular american sandwich ham instead of the real Vietnamese ham. Their pate has too much of a liver taste (not made correctly). They are also missing pickled daikon with their carrots. The bread they use is also not the crispy baguette for the sandwich. The only thing correct in their generic vietnamese sandwich is the steam pork. Went and visited my hometown and bought many authentic Vietnamese sandwiches to bring back home. Pho was under renovation so we decided to try something new. Young woman took a while to acknowledge us as she was on her phone. We had spring rolls, summer rolls, and the bbq sandwich. The meats were all overcooked. Rolls were good but despite ordering to eat in, they wrapped them in saran wrap and you cant tell where the plastic wrap ends and the rolls ends. We also ordered a lemonade and a water as well; the lemonade was a simple syrup mixed with room temp water and they had us self serve our water (we had to ask if we wanted ice). Cashier returned to her phone without offering utensils or napkins which we had to search to find. The bathrooms were in desperate need of attendance, there was a broken front window, the food was mediocre and the service was unimpressive. We saw a couple walk in take one look and walk back out... we should have done the same. You get what you pay for I suppose. $25 to feed 3 isn't bad, but I'll be waiting until Pho opens back up. Let me just start by saying I'm quite picky about my bubble teas... And this place was okay. The ambiance was nice and the bubble tea was good enough. I got us taro milk teas with boba. What's nice about this place is you can choose the sweetness level - wonderful for people like me who don't want to be overwhelmed by it. The price for two milk teas about about $8ish and be warned, there's a 50¢ fee for credit card charges under $10. I've also tried several across the US, so while maybe not an expert, I know my banh mi. This is one of the best I've ever had! They put a lot of love into their grilled pork and it shows. Their banh mi is the best bite of food in Reno. Their boba tea is also best in Reno with lots of options (flavors, sugar level, types of "boba"). They also use their pork in the fresh spring rolls, but my only criticism is they make these way too big. They need to make them smaller with less fillings - not less pork. FINALLY a good boba place in Reno. I have been to many around town; some had hard boba, others had tea that was way too watery and none ever asked for sweetness. I ordered a jasmine tea with boba, 100% sweetness and it was soooo good. The boba was soft and squishy and the tea was just right. We had to try the food, so we ordered a honey BBQ sandwich and some spring rolls. I didnt expect the sandwich to be warm, it was a pleasant surprise.
