I love boba/milk tea/tapioca and I really wanted to like this place but everything just tasted too artificially sweet and watered down :| Came with a group of friends and we were so excited since everything looked so good and the shop itself is really cute. I ordered the grapefruit garden and the grapefruit tasted super weird. Like it came out of a can or something but definitely not like a real grapefruit. My friend got the milk tea and both of ours tasted really watered down. My other friend got the taro milk tea and she said it was too sweet and none of us finished our drinks. I could barely taste the tea flavor, they all just tasted very artificially sweet and lacked any depth in flavor IDK :( We also got the green tea snow ice and it also tasted way too sweet but the texture was really cool, like ice cream in the form of snow! I self classify as a boba connoisseur, and the Teaspoon chain is probably my favorite for its variety and creativity. I've tried 4 of the teaspoon locations in the Bay Area and they are all great - you can expect consistency between them all. Russian Hill location is no exception. I love the unique drink options, variety of toppings, and the fact that they are made with lactose free milk. Only complaints are: deficiency in caffeine-free options, inability to reduce sweetness on most drinks, and their preparation speed. Recommendations: - Taro is great if you like fresh taro. I also enjoy it warm. - Firecracker (mango smoothie with spicy cheetos) is a fun twist on a refreshing classic - Grasshopper - so refreshing - perfect for a hot day. I love getting it with lychee jelly and/or popping boba - Mojitos - love them all - Paradise lime - great alternative to grasshopper or mojito when you're looking for something caffeine-free I've likely spent hundreds of dollars if not more between all the Teaspoon establishments since they opened a few years ago. After dinner my friends and I were craving something sweet to balance out our savory dinner. Since we were near the Russian hill area and I was dying to try out the new boba place, that was super hyped up on Yelp, we decided to walk a few blocks to teaspoon. Upon walking in we were promptly welcomed and the service was very professional and friendly. They explained their menu and let our group sample the pre-made cold drinks. The ambiance was well decor'd and had good lighting to just hang out with friends or get work done. I drink a lot of boba milk tea. A lot as in everyday for 5 years until I realized I could get diabetes, so I cut down to 2-3 times a week. So I love and know my boba drinks. Teaspoon has a lot of fun different drinks which I think if executed better would be amazing. We tried the liquid gold, lychee mint mojoto, and classic milk tea. The liquid gold, though is a great concept wasn't anything special to me. Even at 50% sweetness it was too sweet for me. The one good thing about it was their honey boba topping which they managed to perfect. It's soft, chewy, but not too sweet. LOVE IT! The lychee virgin mint mojoto upon first sips is good, but getting about half way was too sweet (sadly you cannot change the sweetness on this drink). Another surprise I encountered was I started sucking up bitter lime seeds along with my lychee jelly. I couldn't get the bitterness outside of my mouth so I stopped drinking halfway. Sad! Lastly, the classic milk tea made with their premium house black tea with cream did not meet the "premium" standard. I couldn't taste the tea and at 50% sweetness all I tasted was creamer and hints of tea. I really wanted to love this place, but with their average tasting drinks and really steep prices, I am not a fan. 2 stars for drinks and pricing, 4 stars for amazing staff and concept. Gotta love teaspoon! I've visited their shops in South Bay as well as the one in SF. I like how they have taller cups than most places and they cook their boba just right. They also have yummy shaved ice, be sure to try out the milk tea one, that's my favorite! The oolong tea here is great. I got the liquid gold at 25% sugar, which is a oolong based milky drink with honey boba and aloe vera (choose your own two toppings). The depth the oolong cuts through the milkiness and thickness of the milk to give a nice flavor profile to the drink. 10/10 recommend! Yum! I love this place, all their teas are brewed from an expresso machine which is definitely something new. I'm more into creamier kind of drinks so I always go for the genmaicha green milk tea or roasted oolong milk tea, but they have a bunch of fruitier/refreshing choices too like the virgin mojito & white crystal. And they have a bunch of diff toppings like coffee jelly & fresh honey boba! A majority of their drinks are non-dairy which is perfect for all of my lactose intolerant friends but not for people who are allergic to milk! Plus almost everything is ORGANIC! My grandparents who are 93 & 94 looooove the milk tea from this place! I always bring them a drink when I go. This is definitely my go to place for tea beverages! We come to the one in the City and waited in line for over 15 minutes only to be told they are not making certain drinks. They could have told people standing in line if certain drinks are not offered so we are not wasting our time. Several had to change their orders. I should have known this place is not up to par by the dirty tables and store. No remorse they are not serving certain drinks. Wow are the drinks here expensive. But I do love the virgin mojitos here. Comes in different flavors (peach, mango, lychee, strawberry). - Peach mojito with lychee jelly topping is so refreshing. It comes with squeeze key lime and you can't change the amount of sweetness and ice for this drink. - Grasshopper - I tried this drink at a different Teaspoon location and didn't like it even though it's popular. There is a very strong cucumber taste. I don't like cucumber in my drinks but I thought I could look past it.. - Snow: Thai Tea - This was probably my worst snow experience. The presentation was dull and the taste was extremely sweet. Like so sweet that my boyfriend with a sweet tooth rejected it. Parking is so-so. Really depends on the day you come. Mostly meter parking in this area. Seating wise, they have about 3 tables and some stools. Service is always great at this Teaspoon location. One of my favorite boba spots in the city! Parking might get a little tough to find but if you come after 9pm it gets easier. I almost always get Liquid Gold (5/5) but I also like their Taro milk tea (4/5). Liquid Gold is basically your basic Oolong tea with honey and milk. Its not too sweet and you could also taste the Oolong flavor in your drink. Their boba is pretty good too its not too sweet and its chewy. You could tell that the tea they use is real tea instead of those cheap tea bags from supermarkets. Their taro milk tea is a little unique. It comes with a slow cooked taro at the bottom of your drink which basically tasted like taro puree. You have to mix it with the drink well before you drink it or you wont be able to taste the taro flavor. The drink is a little too thick for me but I do admit that it taste good. read more

On a visit to San Fran my friend and I were looking for a little boba fix and stumbled upon this place at around 10pm! The decor inside is very cute and simple. It was pretty empty so there was enough tables available as well. The menu is small and customizable. They have some specialty drinks and then the option to build your own drink which is always nice. The cashier gave me a sample of a honey oolong tea so I could see what sweetness I wanted for my drink. He also let us try the crystal boba because we never had it before. I opted for the rose petal creama (half sweetened) and my friend got the lychee on lychee with crystal boba. Both drinks were delicious and half sweet is really perfect level! If we were from the area I would definitely be back. The service was friendly and informative and the drinks were great! Parking was a breeze too. Tons of street parking available. read more

I've taken an Uber to try Teaspoon boba tea drinks. Then I realized that they have more than one location besides Polk St.!! D'oh! Stupidity aside, they make a good boba drink. It's a bit on the pricy side as a lot of the specialty boba drinks have real cream so it's a dollar more than what the usual prices are. They also allow a lot of customization and variety with the "build your own drink" option. They also are on Uber Eats too so for any downtown SF workers, boba is only one Uber app away but make sure to check the app to see if they are available. According to my coworkers, they liked Teaspoon but since it's so far away from where we work, it's a trek to get here. Location withstanding, I mostly likely will visit one of their South Bay locations. read more

Craved a milk tea tonight and so my friends and I decided to visit the local Tspoon shop. I love their chain of milk tea shops, and they are nearly my first choice when I'm in the area that happens to have Tspoon around. Very sadly, this location was such a disappointment due to the customer service and non-trained staff. :( First of all, the cashier's communication was awful. There were a couple of workers at the shop (a girl and a guy), and the guy was the one who took my order. While I was ordering he was acting unusually unfriendly and he looked almost like he was mad at me. Huhhh?.. Very interesting. It was pretty weird as I am always acting friendly and polite when ordering something, so I have no idea as to why the cashier would act this way. Then, the same guy proceeds to make my order and makes super loud noises on while doing it. I mean, it's definitely normal to make sounds while making drinks/working, and it's weird to me that I have to actually point this out, but it seemed like the guy was doing it on purpose-repetitively throwing the ice scoop into the freezer, trying to be as loud as possible. Two of my friends who were there noticed his unusual behavior too, and we all were just standing there, guessing what's wrong with the guy or what could've caused that..... We didn't come up with anything. On top of this, I get my drink and it tastes super bland, feeling like it was watered down. I ordered a regular milk tea and got a watered down kinda drink. This place is subpar, at best. Or maybe my standards are high because I'm from Orange County. My friends and I tried the Grasshopper and the House Milk Tea. Milk Tea is the standard that I always try at every place, and then a green tea of some sort. The Milk Tea was too milky and you couldn't taste much of the tea. The boba was clump together and wasn't chewy. The Grasshopper was dominated by the cucumber taste and you could barely taste the Lychee Green Tea. I had it with aloe and sadly enough, the aloe was the best part of the drink. I had: Creamy jasmine green tea - no ice and 50% sweetness Grass Hopper - light ice and 50% sweetness The creamy green tea was labeled with a time that was 3 hours beforehand, so that might explain why the cream blended into the tea and made it taste bland and tasteless.
