These Yelp reviews don't lie - Colin at Tech Air is the only one to call for HVAC work. A couple of months ago, our heater wasn't working and our house was freezing. Called another company first, who 1) couldn't figure out what was going on, and then 2) recommended we do full duct work to see if that would fix it. What?? Colin increased the value of our home by $100,000, let me explain how this genius of a professional and genuinely nice person made this happen. We moved into a new home in San Francisco's St. Francis Wood neighborhood and asked him for two new HVACs. All appliances were in a room in the basement. Colin looked around, climbed through a crawl space, and discovered that there was a hidden and empty room right next to it. He suggested demolishing the wall and building the new HVAC in the new room, which we then repurposed into the new Mechanical Room for HVAC, heaters, steam pump, etc. As a result, we were able to use the now-empty room to add a new bathroom and turn the adjacent storage room into a bedroom. That was the value add, and more than paid us back for what we paid for his work. I found myself just smiling and nodding my head reading through all the reviews just now, naturally all 5 stars. I was desperate for heat as my 83 yr old dad stays with me most of the time and for the first time I stayed cold through the entire night in bed more than once. Colin was the ONLY service/repair tech who didn't hesitate to make time in his schedule to come help fix my furnace. Out of like seven total who generously offered to do so in a week or two or just not at all. They're ALL busy right now. The difference is that Colin is the obvious exception because that's the kind of guy he is. He's a big exception. He didn't have the time either so he literally created more by working into the night to accommodate everyone possible, me included. Prompt, flexible, considerate and very skilled, they were happy to install a new LG mini split system that my wife and I chose even though it required extra time to study and learn and was fiddlier to install. They communicated very well throughout and always turned up when they said they would, as well as honoring the original quote even though it took longer than we all expected to install. Simply put, Colin is the man. We were having issues with our heat, and he responded to my first outreach immediately. I made an appt for the next day or two, and he showed up on time. He diagnosed the problem in no time flat (we were idiots and hadn't changed the filter in forever). I took the opportunity to ask him about adding a zone to our house - it had been only one zone controlled by a thermostat downstairs. Since heat rises, the upstairs would get really hot, while the downstairs stayed cool, as the heat would run through all the vents throughout the house and the upstairs would get a double dose. I had asked another HVAC company if it were possible to add a zone 2 years ago when we moved in, and they quoted me more than $10,000. Colin climbed into the attic, took a look around, and said he could do it for 1/5th of the price, which included another Nest control (and he didn't charge for the first visit, calling it an estimate visit). He and a colleague showed up on the appointed day, on time, and completed the job in the time he said it would take. Colin was clearly sick as a dog, but wanted to live up to his word and get it done.
