Tried to go to Ted's Reston for family lunch today. We were seating immediately as the place was half empty. We sat for 10 minutes with servers walking by and not one person acknowledged us or took our order. Finally flag down a guy who was not our server. He was very nice apologized, took our drink order, coffee's and water, and said he would send out server. 5 minutes later, still no drinks or server. We decided to leave for Tatte, just up the block. Spoke to the Ted's manager who seemed not to care. We will NEVEr go back to Ted's. It's a shame, it was a great place when the original owners were involved read more

My Sunday staple. Go for brunch, not dinner. There are other locations for Ted's Bulletin and you do not get consistent quality across them. By far, the Reston location is the best for service and consistently good food. It's on the more expensive side for breakfast, but its DC, you have to expect the prices and they do give a generous serving. I have never left hungry. Come early if you want the massive cinnamon roll (Cinnamon roll as big as ya head) as they are limited and sell out quickly. They are seriously huge and I recommend a party of 4 or more if you are going to finish it! Also weekends are packed, so if you are in a hurry or very hungry, you may want to grab a seat at the bar or get there before 9:30 AM. Food Suggestions: Avocado Toast for something less filling, chicken 'n biscuits (well seasoned and fried), the T.U.B.s (perfect hangover cure), an adult milkshake (extra shots are an extra charge), and the seasonal home-made poptart. read more

When Ted's Bulletin first opened in DC, I bookmarked it all the while thinking that we would get there during one of our forays into DC. Well...as my DC bookmarks grew, Ted's seemed to fall down the list when it came time to choose a place for dinner. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that they were now in Reston Town Center so no need to go to DC to try them. It's located in the spot where Uno's was. We were here on a Saturday night around 5 p.m. and were surprised to be told that there would be a 20-25 minute wait for a table. After deciding that we still wanted to eat there, we were given a pager and told that it would work up to 1/2 block away. We took the pager and saw that The Pottery Barn was 1/2 block away so we headed there to kill time. As we were crossing Market Street, a Ted's employee came running after us yelling, "Hey, guys!" He told us that a table just came open. That was nice of them to send someone after us and we appreciated it! We noticed that a lot of the infrastructure that was there for Uno's was left in place but Ted's put its own stamp on the dining area. The seating is tight and the chairs used were the type of old seats once found in schools. The place is very loud so at times it is difficult to have a conversation without constantly saying "what?". Our server, Rachel, was very friendly, efficient and prompt. She knew the menu very well. When we were seated, we were given 2 food menus but only 1 drink menu. My husband had just finished looking at it when she asked what we wanted to drink. One of the mixed drinks that has "dogpatch" in its name isn't available in Virginia. It seems that Ted's makes one of the alcoholic ingredients that is in it and doing that, apparently, is illegal in Virginia. So, after a quick glance at the drink menu, I chose a mixed drink called Lincoln County Line. I forget exactly what was in it but it had vodka and some fruit juices with a Rosemary sprig for garnish. It was on the tart side but not bad at all. My husband chose Ted's Light beer which he said was a lager and he was pleasantly surprised as he said it was good. For dinner, I chose to order off the breakfast menu and had The Big Mark. This dish consists of "3 eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage patties, hash browns, toast and a homemade pop tart. I got the eggs fried over easy and chose marbled rye bread for my toast. For my pop tart, I chose peanut butter and bacon. Our server said that this pop tart was sweet and savory. This dish was very filling! The eggs were cooked exactly as I ordered them. The sausage patties were clearly made in-house. At first bite, they taste sweet due to the maple syrup but then the heat in them catches up to you! The hash browns were perfectly cooked as they were just crisp enough on the outside but on the inside were still soft and flavorful. I ended up taking the pop tart home and ate it later. When eating it, the peanut butter and the sweetness of the crust came through but I tasted very little bacon. The funny thing is after I ate it, a sweet and savory flavor lingered in my mouth. All in all, it was quite good. My husband ordered meatloaf with Mingo County ketchup glaze. This dish comes with your choice of 2 sides. He chose mac and three cheese plus BBQ baked beans. The meatloaf portion consisted of 2 large pieces! My husband said---and I agreed---that one piece would have been enough. I tasted his meatloaf and found it to be flavorful and moist and he agreed. Our server said that she thought this meatloaf was better than her mom's LOL! The 3 cheeses in the mac and three cheese are regular cheddar, white cheddar and asiago. It is topped with bread crumbs and is gooey, smooth and tasty. The BBQ baked beans were sweet but not overly so. We were too full to even consider dessert! All in all, it was a great dining experience with both great service and great food. Before the tip, dinner cost $47 + change. We both agree that we will add this Ted's into our restaurant rotation and will try other items next time. read more

We had an awesome dinner here. It was a Saturday at around 6:30 pm and the wait was about 50 mins. Our server was awesome. He was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I really like the ambiance. It's laid back. Their milkshakes are delicious, they even have adult milkshakes. It wasn't too heavy or overly sweet. The s'mores and coffee were on point! The food is great. Nothing was overly salty. The portions are generous and it's all seasoned well. I think it's really cool that they offer breakfast anytime. If you're looking for an appetizer, I highly recommend the Crispy Pretzels served with smoked cheese and beer fondue. The pretzels were fresh and you will end up licking the bowl the fondue comes in (lol). I also recommend Drew's Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. It sounded interesting and I wasn't sure how it would taste at first, but it's a great flavor combo. The peanut butter worked really well in there. The meat patty was cooked perfectly. It had a nice grilled flavor. Their fries are well prepared and seasoned. Don't forget to try their homemade poptarts. They have them on display towards the front of their restaurant. Went for early dinner to try the Miso Glazed Cod. What a disappointment, the fish lacked flavor and was on a heap of bland jasmine or sticky rice. The side salad, chicken sliders and empanadas were very good. Normally food at Ted's is very good my spot is the Ballston location. It was my baby sister's bday and I made my mom write her a note to stay home so I can take her out for breakfast (does that make me a bad sister or good sister??) We made it at 9 am and got seated right away. I loved the oldschool decor, the restaurant was clean and it was spacious. The breakfast menu looked promising and since I couldn't decide (as always) SOOOO my fat butt got the Big Mark Breakfast which is 3 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, hash browns and homemade pop tart. I also got the corned beef hash as a side (don't judge me). So the breakfast was NOT worth my $13, really the eggs, bacon and sausage was something I could get from Ihop, nothing special. The hash browns were a thin layer of butter...with hash browns in it. I mean it was barely any potatoes in there, I was very sad. My body I'm sure was dying from the butter but it was the best part of my breakfast. For $13, definitely not worth it. The corn beef hash was good, chunky pieces of corn beef and the potatoes were soft and seasoned well. It was pretty good. Well of course besides the phenomenal homemade poptarts was the real reason I came in, since I've heard so much about it. The poptarts were soo good that I came back 2 weeks later and came in just to get poptarts...about 6 (fat girl status). I wanted to give one to everyone in my family and tell them how good it was. We had the strawberry, blueberry cheesecake, pb and bacon, and brown sugar. I didn't get to try pb and bacon but strawberry is my absolute favorite. It's so light and decadent, the strawberry filling is so good, it's quite addicting. The 3 stars is really for the poptarts but I'll come back for lunch/dinner. Next time for breakfast I'll make sure to not get something I could easily get from Ihop or anything over $11. Also service could have been a bit better, my server was not that friendly with a bit of a stand off-ish attitude. Not enjoyable to see at 9 am in the morning either. Meh. Underwhelming. First of all, the steak was very good. We ordered the deviled eggs and although looking really good, they tasted okay. There was kind of a lemony taste to the filling which to me, wasn't great. Bottom-line, I would not order them again. I ordered the 8 dollar strawberry milkshake, and kudos for how much you get. BUT, a lot of it went to waste because this shake was very plain. Almost tasted more like a vanilla shake. Steak Frites. Seriously...I ordered Steak Frites and they forgot the frites part. I had to tell the Server who brought out the fries with hard parmesan slices. The steak should be on the top with the juices on the fries and melting the cheese. I guess one can dream.... Bottom-line here, I just wouldn't eat here. With tip, our meal was over a hundred bucks which would have been better used elsewhere. read more

My friend and I stopped in here for a bite to eat for lunch. The server was fast and attentive. It was hard to choose something since everything sounded so yummy. I also love places that serve breakfast all the time. I ended up ordered The Jennifer which is a grilled marbled rye, turkey, cole slaw, 1000 Island. The rye bread was definitely buttery and rich. Honestly though when you come here you have to throw out any diet rules you may have. The Jennifer was really good and enjoyed the fries. My friend had raved out their poptarts and coffee. The coffee was delicious and have gotten a coffee to go before. The poptart was just okay. I am not sure if maybe i need to really like poptarts to appreciate the taste. Great place to go for a weekend brunch. I don't have a restaurant like this in Florida so I was happy to try something new. Reservations are needed as this place gets busy. I sat at a countertop and ordered chicken tenders with 4 cheese mac n cheese and a strawberry milkshake. The chicken tenders were nicely seasoned, with honey mustard on the side. 3.5 stars. We dined here on Valentine's night (2/14/14), so naturally there was an expected wait. 45-50 minutes, so we grabbed a drink. I like that there's a bar in the front section that we could stand near to wait. I ordered a Nutty Professor adult milkshake, which came with hazelnut liqueur I believe. It was absolutely delicious. ****PSA: GET AN ADULT MILKSHAKE.**** (Maybe after dinner though, because I was full by the time we got to a table). I ordered the Country-fried steak with 3-cheese macaroni, and mashed potatoes with gravy. It was huge! Perfectly fried outside that was somewhat light and crispy, smothered with white gravy. Deeeelicous. The mac and cheese was great, and potatoes were potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the parmesan chicken spaghetti. Pasta and sauce was average, but the chicken was amazing. It was crusted with some great herbs and melted cheese (provolone?) on top. Made the meal! We also ordered a bowl of chili, which comes with 2 pieces of (grilled?) cornbread. Interesting, but not a huge huge fan. The chili was above-average though. Overall, cute spot; something a little different than your average chain restaurants. I'll come back for those famous poptarts and drinks (they have their own Ted's on tap), and maybe try the all-day breakfast. read more

My parents are in town, so we met up with some cousins here for breakfast. Called ahead and they had a large table with comfy leather bench waiting for us. The ambience is great; it's reminiscent of an old Manhattan dining establishment from the forties. My mom and I split a breakfast because a: we figured generous portions and b: we've been eating out a lot and didn't want to overdo it. We got the pancake stack with eggs over easy and hash browns. They came already halved for us; the eggs and hash browns were perfectly cooked and seasoned and the pancakes were light and fluffy. It was the perfect amount of food. My dad got the Big Mark breakfast: two eggs, choice of meat (he picked sausage patty), hash browns with choice of toast (whole wheat, the, white, sourdough). Huge plate of food. My one cousin got the Jon's omelet. Looked amazing. Another got the Walk of Shame breakfast burrito. It was huge. Another got the Nana's beer biscuits and sausage gravy with two eggs and hash browns. He's 13-plate was pretty much wiped clean (mopped up all the gravy with his biscuits). The 8 year old got the smiley face pancake; she loved it. Eyes were banana coins with blueberry pupils and a strawberry nose and whip cream smile. There were crayons and coloring pages too. Hot chocolate comes with generous amount of whip cream and chocolate sauce drizzle. My dad's Original Bloody Mary, one of four types you can order was spicy and delicious. Angelica did a superb job of taking care of us, very attentive. Awesome experience. Will definitely be back to try some of their pastries! read more

I got the chance to come here for dinner last week. Love the warm homey feeling Ted's has with its interior. I went with friends and we started off with some drinks. Our server was great! She let us know that if we were not happy with the drinks to let them know and they would find something else for us. She let us know this as we were trying out some of their special cocktails. I had the MR. RUPERT and it was great! The definitely do not take a light hand with the cocktails which I appreciate when I am paying so much for one. For dinner I was going to get the Country Fried Steak but our server got my mouth watering with the special of a half smoke chicken with your choice of 2 sides. I really liked that you can really chose any side to go with this. A lot of places try to up-charge for different sides. I got the onion rings and the blue cheese bacon Brussels. The onion rings were massive and crispy and the Brussels were absolutely delicious! The chicken was moist and fell off the bone. I did not care for the white bbq sauce that came with the chicken as it had mayonnaise in it and I am very sensitive to that. Our server saw that I was scraping it off and kindly brought me a different sauce (the one that comes with their meat loaf) and it was much better for me! We were too stuffed to get dessert but it all looked so good, especially their home made pop tarts. This is a great place! The atmosphere is beyond cool! It's a retro 60's eatery with an extra touch of comfort food yummy on top! From the decor, to the movie screen in back showing the Groucho Max Movie I was hooked. The bathrooms join in on the fun by having doors that show names as in old detective movies of the period. The dark wood and antique tiles complete the look that brings out a feel of time travel. Then the food. OH the FOOD!! I had the Short Rib Sammy. It was SO worth the gluten intake!! (Yes, they do Offer non-gluten option. But I wanted The Whole Shabang!) It was Delish!!!!! LOVED IT!! Topped with arugula and Horseradish mayo, which gave it that perfect kick! Waited a long time for this place to open up here in Reston. I am a fan of the Matchbox restaurants so I was hoping this would be as good, it wasn't. Drinks - They have some cocktails they make here, but no one at my table really cared for any of the ones they had. I tried to order a beer, but they were out of it. So I decided to get a milkshake, which I must admit was good. Every time someone ordered a drink it took way to long to get. Food - They failed to tell us what they were out of when they gave us the menus. Of course the item I was going to order, meatloaf, they didn't have that night. I ended up getting the steak with mac and cheese and rice. The steak came out decent enough. I think my plate sat for a bit waiting for the other three at my table though. The mac and cheese was 3 stars and the rice was good, albeit a very small portion for what was probably the cheapest thing to make. Service - The service was decent enough. I understand the place just opened and all, but half the people bringing stuff to the table kept setting it down in front of the wrong person. I am sure that will just take time. Were quickly given menus after getting seated at a booth. Breakfast menu has your typical options as well as more extravagant choices. Kept it simple and ordered the "Jon's Omelet" with sausage ($13) and a coffee ($3). Omelet is large (taking up half the plate) and served alongside hashbrown and a slice of bacon. Nothing too fancy here - eggs are cooked well and stuffed with sausage, spinach, mushrooms, and cheese. Hashbrowns are a bit oily; helped with some hot sauce provided. Coffee is unlimited, and they even leave the pot for you. Food here is standard, but the service is solid. Good option for any time of day. read more

This place over the years has slowly declined when it comes to service. You get a bad vibe like the staff don't want to be there. The hostesses are just chatting away and when someone comes in, it's take a while before they notice. The manager looks like he's training everyone there on the spot. I've been to the DC Ted's twice before and, since I was in the area and wanted dessert, I decided to stop in. Luckily, the salted caramel pop tart was being offered for a limited time. The crust was tender and the caramel was tasty. Love anything salted and caramel so I'm biased. I can't really tell you what he filling was though, as there didn't seem to be too much of it. The carrot cake slice (which is enough to feed at least 3) was really good. Often, carrot cake is dry but this wasn't. The frosting was good and had nuts on the outside of the cake. They get a plus for the crunch and flavor, but a minus for not actually putting the nuts in the cake itself. Then again, they get another plus for plating it with caramel sauce. So, I'll be back to try the entrees here because the desserts were good and the service was super friendly and efficient. So I came here the other day after getting in to Dulles and off a long flight from Dubai. I had an amazing three weeks abroad, food included, but was excited to eat something homey and more familiar. I ordered the corned beef hash and it was just eh. It came highly recommended from the server, so my expectations were definitely not met and honestly, I found it a little hard to finish. My niece's French toast, on the other hand, was very good, and my dad's burrito, another loser. 1 out of 3 is not great odds. I do have to say, the poptarts that we ordered to go, were terrific, as always. The devil's food cake tasted completely different from the one I have gotten at the Capitol Hill location, and not in a good way. I don't know if it was a different cake (I asked before buying and they said it was the same) or just an off day, but I was sorry for the outrageous $10 I spent on it. On the service front, I really wish I could remember our server's name, as she was lovely, efficient and engaging and I don't often feel that way when doing business in northern Virginia. Paying for parking was a bummer-bad move on the part of the shopping center, particularly during the day when it's dead. Odd choice to make it free in the evening when it's busier. I read in another review that Ted's validates for an hour, but 1) how is this communicated?? I didn't see a sign and no one told us and 2) don't most people spend more than an hour in a restaurant? I frequently sit outside on their small patio and people watch while enjoying my meal, usually dinner! Currently they are only open for takeout and for the time being that is fine with me. I can still get their pop tarts, which are a house specialty. I can still get the food I like, even a more limited menu. I highly recommend this restaurant. Ordered takeout; burgers with side salads, side of tots and some Ted's tarts. Everything was truly delicious! The burgers were above average as were the salads with homemade dressings. The star of the meal was the tarts...buttery crust, delicious and generous portion of fillings! I'm taking one star off for the very greasy tots (ruined them) and the fact that they left off the requested fresh toppings from the burgers. Great food though!!! read more

Ted's Bulletin is a higher-end dinner and it serves...higher end dinner food. It's good for kids, has something on the menu to please anyone and bakes in house. Breakfasts items are particularly good. I'm frankly a little disappointed by the pop-tarts because they seem too doughy to me. But I've never had anything that's downright bad. Good for groups too. read more
