Just ate there for the first time in 2 summers. Food was great, chowder wasn'bad either. Fried food was cooked perfect.

This is my favorite place to go for seafood. This is my go to place to go with my family whenever we're up here at our lake house. My favorite is the clam strip basket, I get it every time and I never get sick of it. Highly recommend it!! My 94 year old grandmother has been going here for years and that's how I started coming here, she usually gets the different kinds of chowders there.. We all love it read more

We had the shrimp platter and clam chowder. The shrimp were good, the fries were ok and the portions decent. The chowder was a different story. Between the two cups of chowder we got 4 tiny pieces potato and the broth. The prices are steep for what you get. read more

I have made Ted's an annual event for the last four years since discovering them. They were referred by locals where I vacation in NH. From the Lakes Region in NH take 153 to 109 and stay on 109 to Ted's. The fired clams as second to none. Just as good as I remember from when as a child we would drive to an actual "fry shack" to get clams by the quart 40 years ago. The twin lobster dinner is great an runs between $19.00-$25.00 depending on the season. Just the right portion for a lobster lover. The other great appetizer are their steamers. Ice cream bar is great for a desert, although when I first started visiting the place they served a killer blueberry bread pudding desert. Sadly it is no longer served. I always stop by Ted's on the way to my cottage. I am not a big fried food person but I love the baked haddock, french fries, coleslaw, and steamers. Plus, they have delicious ice cream right there for dessert. It's a small-town seafood restaurant with a lot of personality. I always feel like I'm stepping back in time thirty years when I go there. I'm from upstate New York and have been vacationing in New Hampshire for more than 50 years. We discovered Ted's across the border in Maine our very first year in New Hampshire, We have never had a summer without Ted's. Their fried clams are the best! We have tried other places in Maine along the seacoast but the standard for fried clams is set by Ted's. Their haddock chowder is second to none. Ted's is a tradition. That said, they can't keep up with their current popularity and customer service is non-existent. For example, the other day we went in, placed our order and then sat for 30 minutes. If the person taking the order had said, "we're busy, it's a half hour wait", it would have managed our expectations and we would have been OK. Their actual statement when we complained about the wait was "haven't you waited 30 minutes in a restaurant before?" So, despite 25 years of going there, it's off my list for a weekend meal. read more

The food is OK. Nothing special. We don't get seafood here because it is overpriced for the size you get. We used to go to dinner on Thursdays and then get ice cream because they had a special. They stopped the special this year during the summer. So, needless to say we will not be going there anymore on Thursdays. Prob won't go much at all anymore. After spending a week in Maine eating, literally, one or more lobster rolls a day, Ted's was the worst roll I ate. Was it "1 star" bad? No, not really...but it was mediocre enough to warrant a, "Meh, I've experienced better." Ted's lobster roll comes drenched in enough mayo to float a battle ship. Oh sure, there is an acceptable amount of lobster meat, but it wasn't terribly flavorful, though it was hard to tell through the gallon or two of mayo in which the meat was swimming. But how about the fried clams? Since they're in the name of the place they must be good, right? Nope. The whole bellies were flavorless, other than tasting of over-used oil. They were also overly battered, over-cooked, slightly tough, and honestly, just not very good. Lastly, if there were any clams in my bowl of clam chowder then it would have taken an employee to point them out to me. Basically, I got a bowl of slightly salty cream with a bite or two of chopped potato. This was hands down the worst place we ate in Maine. If you are forced to eat here, then choose the whole lobster dinner, which is very cheap. Yes, they may screw up boiling a whole lobster, but I'd trust them with that since anything more complicated seems to be a recipe for failure at Ted's. On the plus side, servings are huge, so while it may not taste good, you do get a lot of it...hmmm...maybe that's not a good thing. read more

Me and the boy enjoy going to Ted's for our seafood fix. I read some of the other reviews and I can understand where the people are coming from, but remember this isn't the fish pier in Portland, this is well inland. And, they capitalize on the tourists, which is what you have to do when you run a business up here in Maine. All that being said, the place does have pretty good quality food, their clam strips are excellent, and their Haddock is really really good. The ice cream on Thursdays off-season is a nice price as well, and I like the order-and-get your food environment. You don't have to wait for a waitress to come see you, and you don't have to leave a tip on the table. If you want five-star seafood served to you by a teenager, drive an hour east till you hit the ocean. If you want pretty good seafood at an average price, stopping to Ted's, you will be disappointed....Or you may be disappointed- but have two free hours you would have spent driving and an extra $10 in gas. read more

Just average clams and pricey!! I have been going here for years but the batter seems different. I understand market pricing but increasing the cost of onion rings at the counter???? Manager was dismissive and the help is less than friendly. Methinks I will make the trip into Becky's in Portland or the Lobster Shack in Cape Elizabeth. I've driven by this place for years and finally stopped last week. My daughter and I decided to share a haddock boat which was $11!!! Yikes! For that price I expected a decent sized portion, but unfortunately there were only four small chunks of haddock along with a hefty serving of fries. Turns out that was more than enough as we threw most of the rubbery, watery fish In the trash! The fries were no better....undercooked and bland. I will NOT be going back! read more

I'm very surprised by the other reviews. This place is awesome! I have very high standards when it comes to seafood. Ted's is always so fresh. The batter is a little different. Its not as greasy as most places. The lobster rolls are great and only $12. The chicken is awesome. Pasta dishes aren't bad either. Very casual... you order at a counter and there aren't any waitresses. I like that because it keeps the cost down. Tables are always clean and they still put out place mats and settings. You can eat outside too. It gets very crowded Friday and Saturday nights but thats because its so good. read more

I would not visit again. The price was reasonable but the food I ordered, onion rings and crab cakes were tasteless. My husband had the scallops and they were pretty good. This was my first visit and I did not understand there was another order window for steamed food. read more

Went there for lunch yesterday for lunch. Had fried clams and lobster stew. The clams were soggy and over breaded and greasy. The lobster stew was at the other end of the building witch was an inconvence being handicap. The stew was premade and had to be nuked, taste was bland. Very disappointed. My children and I stopped into Ted's on Thursday for our summer ritual "Thursday Night Rock House Ice Cream Night". Before going I checked their website where the Thursday ice cream special is still advertised. After being overcharged I asked about the Thursday pricing and was told "Ted's doesn't run the special in the summer anymore". I requested to talk to someone to ask if they would honor the pricing advertised on their website. I ended up speaking with the owner who refused to honor the advertised price, and he abruptly/rudely walked away without allowing me the opportunity to inquire why the advertised price would not be honored. There were other customers waiting - they were also shocked by how rude the owner was to me for simply asking him to honor the pricing advertised on his website. Clearly customer service is not high up on his priority list. We'll find a new ice cream shop for our summer ice cream nights out. BTW the food isn't great, which is why we only stopped in for the ice cream. read more

while vacationing down the street with family Teds was just a short trip down the street .we had Lunch portions were reasonable for a fish and chicken and affordable.many times out for a drive we would stop by just for a delicious Ice cream.and before our adult kids went back home as a family we all had a nice dinner again the portions weren't over whelming and the price is average.it's a reasonable place to go and have a bite to eat .or just enjoy an ice cream. read more
