I mean i understand the concept order your food and they grill right in front of you, collect your food and move on. I've only been to Ted's one other time before, years ago. I remember how much of a staple it is for ASU students but I remember being underwhelmed, and felt nickle and dimed for every topping... not much has changed! I ordered the all beef jumbo which starts at $4.94. The double bacon (4 slices) was $2 and the Mac and cheese was another .99¢, for a total of $7.93!Luckily the pickle and onion were included toppings! Bf ordered the footlong hotdog which starts at $5.04. After the chili and cheese it came out to $6.62. We shared the split, $4.64 (half fries, half onion rings) and an orange cream milkshake, $4.49. The total for our meal was about $24. Not outrageous..bf seemed to think it was reasonable. Overall it was good, no complaints. Except maybe the onion rings; they were thin and flimsy, hardly ring shaped at all. At least they make them in house? Ted's is not outrageous if you can order a plain hotdog with the included toppings. But if you're like me and you want Mac and bacon, well, shell out the dough or head to Wienerschnitzel. I am from upstate NY and went to college in Buffalo. When I moved to Phoenix I learned quickly that the food was not nearly as good as NY. I did some research and discovered Ted's. I have never been to Ted's when I lived in NY. While waiting in line there are newspapers from Buffalo to read. The inside had an old school feel which I liked. For food we got a lot of everything. Chicago dog, white hot, Italian sausage, onion rings, fries and a milkshake. Only miss was the onion rings; I wouldn't get them again. Everything else was very good. Everything had a ton of flavor. The kind of food where you keep eating even when you are full. Employees were very nice. The place was clean. Only complaint is the area seems to be drug ridden. There are locks on the bathroom doors so at least the business is doing something. I did feel a little uncomfortable having my kids there. If you are in the mood for some hotdogs Ted's if definitely the place to go. read more

I have been to Ted's a few times over the year and found myself at a work event right next door recently! I was hoping for a quick bite and Ted's ended up being a very convenient and delicious option! First and foremost, the staff was so great. They were friendly, thorough and very helpful with menu questions. I opted for a corn dog, side of fried pickles (per staff recommendation ) and a vanilla malt! Everything was fresh and made to order. The corn dog was a tasty and quality dog. fried pickles were delish and I tried a few of my husbands fries, also tasty and fresh. We ordered one of their sauce flights, which YES PLEASE, as I think I have said more than once, I am a saucy girl and love and want all the sauces! It's just under $3 for a choice of three, in addition my pickles came with one. We got the garlic aioli, chipotle ranch, traditional ranch, and fry sauce. They are so RIDICULOUSLY generous with their sauce portions. Forget those tiny 1-2 oz containers you have to pay for at most restaurants, but massive 4-6 oz ones, which I am most definitely grateful for! Perfect for sharing or multiple items. The ranch is delish, but the chipotle ranch was where it was at, especially with the pickles and fries. The only thing I didn't love, was the malt. Though its not a bad malt and still tasty, comes with whip cream, it had a unique flavor, perhaps a slight bit over sweet? May be the soft serve they use, or may just be me. Overall, still good, great consistency, and I am sure still a fan favorite and hits the craving. Couple sidenotes: They offer other menu items such as foot long dogs, burgers (even vegetarian ones), sausages and chicken sandwiches and ample sides such as mac n cheese, potato salad and onion rings. You aren't going to find any greens here, but I suppose you wouldn't expect one at a hot dog place! It's fast casual and they have a larged shared lot. Great for groups! read more

You line up to place an order, then line up to pay, then line up again to tell them how you want the toppings. It's ridiculous and if there's even like five customers in line, the counter area is totally full of people bumping into each other going back and forth. It takes forever and I've often just left. The workers too, they always seem to be running around as they don't have a huge amount of grill space. So here's my suggestion, Ted's, if you're reading this: Because the food is made to order and there are many options, they should switch to a ticket system where you tell them everything you want up front, they ring it up, you pay and then go take a seat while they're preparing it. This would give the kitchen crew more time and breathing room to prepare orders as well. They could easily do more, more efficiently, and you don't have a bunch of people waiting around by the register. There's my two cents, Ted's. read more

We were coming home to Chandler from Scottsdale. We decided not to take the highway so we could scout out a restaurant we haven't tried. My son and I love hot dogs so we decided to stop in. There was a long line but the staff is quite efficient. The cook was asking customers what they want so he could start cooking before we were right in front of him. I was surprised by the variety of the menu, offering much more than hot dogs. The shakes look delicious! I'd also like to try some of the sausage options. The hot dogs looked scrumptious as they were grilling. I ordered mine with relish, onions, tomatoes, ketchup and mustard. I'm wondering if the toppings took away from the taste. Next time, I may just ask for ketchup. The hot dog was okay. My son said he preferred Portillo's. The bun fell apart right away. Fries and sauces were very good! Service is great! This place serving all types of dogs and brats is pretty awesome in its own right, but then they go and add charcoal to cook the food and this place becomes one of the best hot dogs you will ever eat! Here is the low-down: Good: -Charcoal grilled everything (they also have burgers and chicken) - Aunt Hattie's buns for the dogs (is a personal pref) - several types of homemade dipping sauces you won't find anywhere else to dip the fries in...some also go good on your dog - Lots of fresh toppings to choose from (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, relish, etc.) - Large dining area which was well kept - The bathrooms were clean and smelled good - Love how well preserved the building and signage are well kept (60's-70's era) Bad: - While the meats are cooked to order and come out hot and fresh, my fries tastes like they had been under a heat lamp for a while and they were flimsy and cool. For a hotdog place, this is pretty good! The charcoal grilled dogs were what made the hit dogs great in my opinion. My boyfriend got the regular dog and the bratwurst dog, and I got two regular dogs and a small french fry (and a side of ranch). This did seem a little pricey to us (the total came out to be ~$18.50). While the hotdog meat didn't blow us away (it was almost like buying regular old hotdogs at Walmart), again, the charcoaling of it was what made the meal good. What I loved most about the meal was definitely the french fries. Something about them was just right! I wish I could have tried the onion rings, as they looked pretty good. Being our first times there, the ordering process was kind of confusing to us. After we paid, we weren't told what we were supposed to do (ex. Wait there, go sit down and they'll bring the food over, etc.) So we elected to go grab a bench and wait. Turns out we were supposed to wait up there to then tell them what toppings we wanted on the hotdog! Teds was a good choice for lunch. The line was nearly out the door and that told me it had to be good. Wanting to try different places than I get a home we thought this was a relatively cheap place. The foot long hot dog was cooked to perfection and the ability to create your toppings was a nice touch. Onion rings were pricey and flavorless unless you dipped them in a dipping sauce.
