I think I have to stop using yelp reviews to help me choose restaurants, I too often have vastly different opinions. Tehran is one example. Here's what we ordered: - Salmon kabob 3.5*: Whatever it was marinated in was delicious, but the fish itself was a little fishy and overcooked. Rice that came with it was pretty good. - Greek salad 2.5*: Not a horrible salad, but not Greek. Lettuce tomatoes and cucumbers - no olives, no onions - with feta that strongly tasted of sheep. Not necessarily a bad thing, but didn't work in such a plain salad. Very lightly dressed, not a Greek dressing, no other dressing came with it. - Zereshk polo (barberry rice) 2.5*: Very plain rice with some barberries scattered on top, tiny bit of saffron rice. The barberries were good, the rice was meh. Buried in the rice were two chicken legs that had an unpleasant flavor, tasted old. - Kashk o bademjan: not delivered - Tadig with fesenjon 1.5*: The flavor of the fesenjon was fair - not great, but edible. Had beef in it, which is ok with me but wasn't specified on the menu. The fesenjon came in a small plastic container. In it was about an inch of fesenjon, and at least 1/4 inch of oil. The tadig, theoretically the crust of rice at the bottom of the pot, looked more like they had thrown a bunch of rice into oil and deep fried it. A few pieces, mostly shreds, all very hard, and incredibly oily. Overall pretty disgusting. Very disappointing. read more

The staff are really friendly. But, food probably one of the worst persian food around town. We ordered koobideh that smells like a hell that you can noteat any. Barg is old and not fresh, rice is cheapest rice that they bought from grocery. Shirin polo, they used Jam to make it sweet. The tea, is flavored with tons of rose water that you can not drink. Ordered through Eat24 so this review is about food quality. Zaban (Beef Tongue) Sandwich: Did not look like the picture on eat 24. I ordered it with a baguette option for the bread, what came instead was a very thin, (maybe flattened?) sesame topped bread. This would have been fine if not for the fact that it was completely over grilled/toasted and very tough to bite through. I ended up using a knife to try to cut it and struggled. Bread issues aside, the beef tongue was good - but 2 slices isn't enough to convince me to spend $11 on this sandwich. Boneless Chicken Kabobs: Advertised as thighs and tenders. Only got tenders/breast meat. Meat was overcooked, dry, and tough. Shirazi Salad - This was fine and exactly what I expected. Baba Ganoush - This was fine as well. A bit strong on garlic but that's probably a preference issue. Pita bread was on the dry side. My total was around $45 for decent sides with sub-par entrees. There are definitely better options in the area. I hope Tehran improves but I would avoid for now. read more

I've never had such flavorless food in my ENTIRE life. This was an absolute disgrace to Persian food. Oh, and the painful aftermath? Don't get me started. DO NOT DO IT. While attending a local course I ate at this restaurant for lunch. OMG, the food was amazing. The service was quick. The menu was extensive and the deserts out of this world. The food tasted so good because it was made with the finest ingredients and love. The flavours here are heavenly! The dolmeh is all hand-made by the owner (Jasmine), not canned, & served warm. The yummy eggplant dishes are super flavorful, made with onions & tomatoes & her love of cooking. We spread the thick appetizer on the sliced pita-style bread. The soup is thick with noodles, veggies & lentils or beans, reminding us of our childhood minestrone. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but we managed to eat half of our entrees (see pics of the kabobs), which come with tons of basmati rice & salad (I wish I could duplicate her tangy salad dressing at home). This quaint place is also a bakery. We met Jasmine who does all the baking (including the bread!) & cooking. Her husband Frank serves. There are only 4 tables inside, but when the weather is nice, eat outside. Make sure you go over your order. We got a wrong dish, but it tasted good, so we will order the other one next time. Be careful all the desserts have rosewater with no mention of that fact on the menu! Many people, like me, hate rose water. It is such a polarizing flavor it needs to be clearly listed anytime it is included in a dish. If some people like it and they want to serve it many things that is cool with me, just make sure it is not a surprise for people. I ordered 3 desserts for delivery because it was the last night of my vacation and I was going back on my diet the next day. So my final hoorah was derailed by gross rosewater. This was weeks ago and it still bothers me. The other food my wife and I got was pretty good but I do not think I will want to come back here anytime soon after the Great Rose Water Debacle of '16. read more

I couldn't swallow the first bite of chicken koobideh, it had an awful taste that cannot be put into words, my sister tried the chicken boneless kabob, & she felt the same, she said it was bland & had a strange taste. Baba ganoush was good, tea with rose water also good. However, main entrees of chicken barg and koobideh were not good at all, very dry and bland. Baklava was very bad, soggy pasty, and had an odd flavor. An absolute hidden gem of LA... the owner Farhad and his wife Semien have truly recreated what it feels like to go to my Persian grandmother's house. The whole place is run by just the two of them, and each meal is handcrafted by Semien with what feels like careful attention and love. The authenticity and flavors of the food go beyond some of the most famous of Persian restaurants in LA. The chef's at Shamshiri and Raffi should both come here to remind themselves what authentic Persian cuisine really tastes like. Persian food is so much more than kebobs and rice... Tehran restaurant truly embodies what it feels like to be in Iran. Delicious food made by a family style restaurant. What else do you expect except friendly and cozy?

I ordered uber eats delivery. Chicken kabob and zereshk polo with chicken. Both were extremely greasy to the point that it was inedible. The chicken for the zereshk polo was absolutely the worst baked chicken I have ever had -all skin and bones. I'm Iranian and I know person cuisine. This was the worst experience I've had with persian food in ages. For folks that remember Rumi and Shah Abbas in Beverly Hills, this place is WORSE! read more

I hate to leave a bad review, but the dishes we ordered didn't taste like authentic Persian food, and was extremely greasy.

I tried this restaurant based on people's recommendation and reviews, but I was totally disappointed, and I think alot of these people who gave 5 and 4 stars haven't tried a good Persian food. First of all, the food was edible, but not memorable. They brought the $31 food in a plastic plate with a very small paper napkin, and they didn't asked us if we like water. The food had no flavor at all, and the yogurt juice (Dogh) was bad because I could tell it was mixed with water and dry mint and that was called a " Homemade Dogh". Second, the Barg ( fillet meat) was not tender and also there was far too much butter in the rice, and surprisingly the food was expensive. I mean if you pay $100 for 2people for lunch you gonna expect to get a good quality Persian food; however, this food was one the worst Persian food in LA. On the way out, I happened to look towards the kitchen and it wasn't clean. When compared to other restaurants in Los Angeles, this is one of the worst. I've been to many good Persian restaurants in the Valley, Beverly Hills, and Orange County, but this one isn't worth the money. You can try this restaurant if you want to waste your money. Otherwise, there are better options in Los Angeles, including Farsi Caffe in Westwood, Shikarchi, Showle, Shiraz in the Valley, Raffi in Glendale, and Caspian in Orange County. The owner who I assume was a lady, was not friendly and welcoming to us and they never asked us how we liked the food. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

First of all, when I called around 8:45 on a Saturday night to ask what time they close, the lady told me "in 15 min." When I started speaking in Farsi to her, she said 10. The place is cute and cozy, and otherwise friendly. But I've never had Persian food this bad. This appetizers were so terrible I didn't bother waiting for the food. The kheshke-bademjon was salty and just strips of eggplant, not julienned as it is supposed to be. Then the masteseer was just plain yogurt that wasn't whipped with chunks of garlic with no spices whatsoever. Absolutely a rip off. read more

Absolutely the best Persian food in all of Los Angeles. I get it, that's a high bar in this town. I've partaken of Persian cuisine far and wide in Tehrangeles, but truly - this is all I need. It's home cooking. It's a cozy environment. The owners are most kind, gentle people you'll meet. They'll talk with you if you want, or leave you be if you want. The worst dining experience of my life! This restaurant is always empty and for good reason. The food is terrible and the owners are awful. The food is old and bad. The bread was stale. California has some of the best veggies, but this place is using rotting tomatoes. When we brought up the tomatoes the waiter/owner said 'they're tomatoes'. Not sure what that means. We were really hungry so we ate part of one dish but the other was too old to have more then the initial bite. What was somehow worse then the food were the owners. After paying we said we couldn't eat one of their dishes, so they started cursing and yelling. They told my mom she's a b**** and crazy and screamed to get out of the restaurant.
