Teke's is a great find! I love when Kim does my services but I've never had a bad experience in over 10 years. I still go to Kim for eyebrow/lip waxing even though I no longer live on the Hill. This place is a s**t show. The ventilation is horrible and at any given time there's only like 3 people working. They had me waiting for 20 minutes and let multiple people go before me that had come in later simply because they weren't getting full sets & therefore would be easier to tackle. First off, I love that they use the razor during pedicures, because not many places do. $33 for a mani/pedi is almost unheard of in Boston so it's nice to know Teke Nails is affordable but still professional, clean, and super friendly. My french manicure was not cheap and it started chipping away LITERALLY after 1 day, ruined within 3 days and gone with 4.

I have been going here for over 15 years and I have NOT had a complaint yet...I love getting my bikini and eyebrow waxes done here! They are efficient and always hold your appointment. I don't get pedis and manis to often only because I do my own but when I do need a mani/pedi I go straight to TEKE NAILS. Of course like all shops on a busy main street they are busy but if you make an appointment they will do their best to stick to the time. The chairs are nice and comfy with built in massages! The staff is very friendly and always willing to take walk in customers. Of course nothing and nobody is perfect but i have always been treated with kindness... I have been going to Kim (the owner) from my very first visit and she always gives me her undivided attention. If she is falling behind most times I have no problem waiting. Her staff always greets me with waves and friendly smiles. I get the following treatments: waxings, manis & pedis. & when I do get manis/pedis I am always getting complements about my nails. I recommend Teke nails for waxing & mani/pedis. I recommend Kim highly for fabulous fast and efficient waxes. I recommend any of her staff for spectacular nail treatments! I arrived in Boston today so no experience here to compare but... florescent bulbs hanging. The decor lacked anything pleasing. I sat down to have my gel nails removed. They soaked me in acetone. Two hands fingers and all soaking in acetone. I suggested that I'd had gel nails taken off with tips of fingers wrapped in tin foil with nail polish remover and it came off easily. NO! this place soak entire finger tips and then scrape, soak some more and then scrape. EW not comfortable at all very inefficient. Then NEW nail technician. Gel on two nails mover other hand two nails ...Ah!!! YOU get the idea and the WHOLE TIME watching a Christian children's charity showing children in Guatemala looking through a dump looking for food. Children starving in a starvation hospital etc...etc... All the while the nail technicians watching the tv and laughing . As Dorothy Parker would say "What fresh hell is this" in the end uneven application color not good and not true to reference chip. Yuck yuck and yuck! read more

I like this place. I went for the first time this past Saturday, and I got a manicure. Only $10 which is really good. The place is TINY though. Be prepared to basically sit on top of the person next to you. my manicure lasted about 3ish days with it chipping a little bit. They have a good selection of colors but I do think they put that thinner in them, because it comes out different than my polishes at home. If I am in the area again, I will probably go and get another manicure. read more

I called ahead to check out how busy they were and the woman said to just come on by, so I did just that. It's a cramped space but the girl that did my mani/pedi was nice and did a good job, great attention to detail. I didn't feel rushed which I feel at many salons. The first time i had the gel polish done I feel in love, it didn't chip much for three weeks and my nails looked great the entire time. However, after my experience here I definitely wont go back to them again. I wanted a french manicure, usually most salons ask you if you want the line thick or thin however this woman felt she didn't need to ask....wrong. She started off cuting my cuticles, but cutting the corners of my nails so they weren't really shaped, just choppy. Then the white line was so thick, I have a long nail bed and it took up about half of my nail, it was like she had never done them before. Layer after layer she kept applying then uv drying my gel polish, an hour and a half and $35 later i was done leaving the salon grumpy with smudged nails that look like I did them myself. 3 days later they were chipped and I just took the rest off. I had chosen this place over another salon that charged $50 for the gel polish, guess I've learned my lesson about them. I would definitely not go back. read more

This is the best brow wax I've ever had-- I forgot to catch her name, but the woman who waxed my brows was so lovely. This is my first yelp review to be honest and let me be clear about this, I am not the kind of person that would ever consider writing one. I changed my mind for two reasons: I depended on others' reviews to finally visit Teke, and I feel that the quality of their work is actually much higher than what the location gives away. Situated in lovely Beacon Hill, Teke is really a hidden gem. Although the place is not polished or fancy, unlike Minilux, where I usually go for manis and pedis, I found that the lady who took care of me, Luna, was exceptional at what she does! My nails look amazing! Honestly, I am astounded with the results. My feet and hands are super soft and she took her time to meticulously massage and pamper me. She was very attentive and kind. I will definitely be back! The only reason I am not giving a fifth star is the facilities. Other than that, this is high quality service at a very reasonable price. $33 for a mani and pedi? this is the only good place in beacon hill to get your nails done! all the ladies are so nice and they're open late which is awesome i can never get there until 7:30 and they have no problem doing a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. ive even seen people walk in right before close for that and they will take them and have a good attitude and never make you feel rushed. also the best eye brow wax ive ever had. i love this place i tried 4 nail salons in the area and they were horrendous im so glad i found this place read more

About the worst experience I have had in a long time. Staff is nice but not well trained. The facility is dirty. Polish chosen was old, thick and had to be removed turning a 40 minute manicure into a 90 minute disaster. I found this place on a Thursday evening. I was grateful because they stayed open past closing to do my manicure. I got an acrylic overlay. I asked the technician if she could extend them a little because one nail had broke. She told me no and had to keep them the length that they were. I have never had a technician tell me they could not lengthen my nails. I was a little put off by that. She was a little rough but my nails did come out nice. The color selection were limited. Most of the bottles looked like they had no nail polish in them. The bathroom is very small and uncomfortable. I would only try them again if I needed a salon that stayed open late. read more

Not my best experience. The nails looked great afterwards but the lady was so rough with the file, she shredded my cuticles. They were bleeding by the time I left and had to apply healing ointment for the next few days. The 'shellac' polish also started chipping after a week and a half. My previous shellac manicure lasted for 4 weeks without chipping. I paid 30$ with tip but was very disappointed after all the positive reviews. read more

I would not recommend this place at all. During my pedicure, the technician was too rough with my cuticles. She clipped my skin, and I had to tell her several times to stop before she did. The area was sore and red for days. Hopefully with the neosporin I'm applying, it won't get infected. I guess you get what you pay for (only 25$). Never again. Great mani-pedi. At least so far. Just had it done, so I can't speak for the lasting-ness, but the service was great. I think that was bar far the most attention ever paid to my cuticles...and I'm a bit OCD about them, so that makes a great manicure for me. It's a small place, very crowded, but that's what you get for a great salon in a great location. As seems typical, the staff speak to each other throughout the process in a language I can't understand. The price makes up for that though. $33 mani-pedi. Since I had a bad experience in the area at Cambridge Nails, I felt I want to try all nail salon in the area to see how good each of them really is. The next one I visited is Teke's Nails. I had a M&P and eyebrow wax. The M&P is good and much better than the Cambridge nails. They made my leg looked great and clean. One thing I don't like is they used razor and it made me nervous because I heard many stories about legs got cut and were infected and I also heard that using razor is illegal for nail salon. I hope they won't get caught. Thus, I took one star off. My eyebrow wax is just soso. She left some residual wax on the area near my forehead, so I took another star off too. However, I had a good time and like my M&P. The Price is similar for both salons. I have to be truthful: the place is not as clean as Cambridge Nails. read more

I have been going to Kim for almost 2 years now and am very happy. I totally stumbled upon Teke as I was walking down Charles St., the cheaper price for a brazilian wax caught my eye.. $30! I have been to 5 other places in Boston overtime and Kim is by far my favorite. Plus, the other salons charged between $45-70. Kim is a sweetheart. Always smiling. I never remember to make an appointment, so when I am leaving my office I call her and ask if she can take me in 20 min. Always! She is quick but very thorough. She also somehow makes it as least painful as possible. I always had painful experiences at other salons I used to go to. Whatever her technique is, hair doesn't begin to grow back for 3 weeks (grows back lightly!). I used to spend $60 at another salon to have hair start growing back in 2 weeks. I highly recommend going to her. Don't be fooled because it's a nail salon, Kim knows what she's doing when it comes to waxing! read more

I live in Beacon Hill and go to Teke's every 2 weeks for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. Annie and Helen are the technicians that I would recommend. They do an excellent job and are very thorough. Teke's is also pet friendly, so I bring my dog in from time-to-time which is always a plus! There is definitely a bit of a language barrier, but the women who work there are all kind and do their best to accommodate you. If something happens with your manicure or pedicure, they usually fix it free of charge. I am rating Teke's a 4 instead of a 5 because if Annie or Helen are busy, it is difficult to find another technician that does equally high quality of work. If you are a regular or live in the neighbourhood, I would definitely recommend calling ahead in order to prevent having to wait and requesting the person you like most. Also, you can leave tip on your credit card which is always a great thing! read more

i love teke! i've been going for a couple years and telling everyone i know to get waxed here. no, it's not a spa, but yes it is cheap and gets the job done. Kim is SO nice!!!! i talk to her throughout my wax and it keeps my mind off the fact that my pubes are being ripped out. if you don't like the idea of being social and getting familiar with her maybe it's not for you. also, if you want to go to a place they will pamper you and put on spa music etc. etc., then i wouldn't suggest it. but, if you want to be in and out (takes her 15m with me, disclaimer i don't have a lot of hair) and get a $20 wax (again i have fine hair so it might not be so cheap for everyone), then Teke is PERFECT. if the wax is too hot, TELL HER. if you're a beacon hill resident or bostoner looking for something close, this is place is great. After much research done on the nail salons on Charles Street my roommate and I chose this place. We had heard it was good...but it really wasn't. The positives: my nails do look good but do seem to be a little thick (we both got shellac manicures). I had the owner who did a nice job, but my roommate had another employee who did not even know how to effectively file her nails. The place is in a FABULOUS location, we didn't have to wait (we did make appointments), and it was $25 for a shellac manicure, and they had a great selection of colors. The negatives: The shellac UV lights were shuffled back and forth and were not securely placed on the desks. We had magazines under our hands to serve as a bottom to the lights (WTF?). Both of our manicurists would do one finger at a time and have it dry while shuffling the lights back and forth = not very relaxing at all. One other co worker came in later and they just talked in Vietnamese the whole tim which was so annoying. It seems that more places are like that - there is no relaxation anymore, its just them all talking to each other and talking ABOUT US. They used a buffer that was SO OLD. The buffing portion was all worn and teared. That was just so disgusting and SO UNSANITARY. I would go back if I needed something in a pinch but to go in on a Saturday when you have been thinking about getting your nails done all week and having a somewhat gross/disorganized/cramped experience, no thank you. I would rather pay the extra 10-15 at Miniluxe. read more
