The sake selection and atmosphere are just as good as when I visited last year, but the food has unfortunately changed. It used to feel minimalistic and authentic, but now it leans more toward fusion. They're adding things like aioli, bean sprouts, and what tasted like mint, which really distracts from the fish. On top of that, the rice falls apart much more easily. When you pull the plastic cover to wrap the seaweed, the handroll practically breaks apart in your hands. Since it is primarily handrolls, treat it more like a tasting session or expect to spend a lot to get full. Came here for a quiet dinner and boy was it quiet! We went during the 5pm-6pm happy hour, and we were the only ones there! While it felt weird getting all that waiter attention to ourselves, the food was undeniably good - and I'm pretty picky about my sushi / sashimi. They had unique sashimi roll creations and good bottled beer, which really hit the spot. If you go during happy hour, you get a free miso soup which is also nice. I would recommend this place and also go again as the food was delicious and of a high quality, and the staff was friendly. Ambience and decor looked cool in theory, but it was still kind of early in the day and totally empty so it was hard to get a great read - but probably fine! A+! read more

We also got a bunch of appetizers, and they were all excellent as well. However, the hamachi kama (yellowtail collar) was the only letdown. I opted for set 4 because why not?! Oh the display is beautiful. Each nori cased in their a wrap for you to pull off when you are ready to eat. All my hand rolls were fantastic but my top 2 favs would be the scallop and seared Wagyu. The seafood was is very fresh. My Wagyu was buttery, and just melts in your mouth. The meal was like a flavor rollercoaster. Definitely seating holds to their name. All bar stool eating is bar-like facing the center. Super cool feel. I've been to Temaki Bar twice this year and both times were great experiences. I've realized I'm not a big fan of their plain, unseasoned rolls, but I really enjoy the seasoned ones. My favorites are the spicy truffle salmon, spicy tuna, and scallop rolls. As someone who doesn't eat much, 4 rolls gets me pretty full. The place is definitely on the pricier side, but it's also the only handroll bar in San Jose. The chef was AMAZING and even gave us a cute sticker of the owner's dog! Temaki Bar was a decent experience for me. Temaki is located in the plaza therefore it is easy to find parking. Upon arrival, it went too packed so we seated immediately in which staff advised us to sit anywhere we'd like. We ordered quite a few things. Keep in mind that this isn't your typical sushi restaurant and is more of a traditional sushi bar. Hits: * Truffle Salmon Carpaccio was really good. The sauce and the salmon go along very well. * Unagi Hand Doll is good. Can never go wrong with Unagi and it's sauce. Average: * Salmon Tartare w/ Taro Chips were decent. The dish included a few pieces of chips and I thought it was okay. Nothing stood out much. * Spicy Scallop Hand Roll was okay. Scallop was fresh. * Sesame Salmon Hand roll was okay. Came here with a friend for some speciality hand rolls and not only do they have a big menu with tons of options, they're price point isn't too bad for the amount of food you can get! I paid almost ~$65 for all that we ordered and it was a lot! We got miso soup, chicken kaarage, and the truffle salmon carpaccio to start and all were sooo good. Do not skip on the truffle salmon! Finally a great place for handrolls! Temaki Bar is in a small plaza with other restaurants and small shops. There is plenty of parking in the parking lot, especially in the later hours of the day when the other stores close for the night. The layout here is very similar to those you see in SoCal like KazuNori. It's bar seating on either side of the restaurant with the chefs serving you from the middle. The rolls here are made fresh and right in front of you. I typically go for one of the combos that range from 3-6 rolls. You are able to also swap things in and out of the combos and pay the difference if the replacement is more expensive. I would say that every single one I've tried have been amazing. My favorites are the toro and the seared wagyu, but I would say the salmon belly also deserves a spot. Service is great. Never really had to wait for anything and all of the servers and chefs were really nice. Temaki Bar specializes in handrolls with a menu stacked with your favorite cuts of sashimi as well as an impressive line up of sake. The interior ambiance quickly outdoes its surrounding area as it is located in an older more run down plaza held down by Pet Club. The interior is modern with warm tones from the natural wood and a sake shelf as a unique touch. The interior features a large island along with bar seating that takes up a majority of the restaurant which is a similar design to the So Cal favorite Kazu Nori. The sets offer different cuts of fish as well as a al carte items you can hand select to ensure you get the fish of your choice. They also offer desserts and various appetizers you can share. The prices here are almost double the prices of Kazu Nori. Here you'll find 4 rolls (3 of which include sashimi while the 4th one does not) to come out to be $30, while at Kazu Nori it would cost $19 and include snow crab. In my opinion, the price is a bit too high for the amount of food you get. My husband and I spent about $87 and were still hungry afterwards. I opted for set 2 with hamachi, salmon, spicy tuna and jalapeno cream cheese. All of the handrolls were great. The sashimi seemed pretty fresh. However I thought each handroll had too much rice, just my preference. The jalapeno was fried and crispy with a nice contrast in texture between the cream cheese. Personally I really like Kazu Nori's seaweed and the way they toast it so its served warm. The seaweed here tastes very average. I really liked that you can enjoy at your own leisure rather than having to scarf down the roll before it gets soggy. The plastic wrapper is a great idea however long term it seems pretty awful for the environment. Service was 10/10. The servers and chefs were friendly and warm. The last rolls took the longest perhaps because they had to fry the ingredients in the back first. Our lunch experience was pleasant however I didn't find the quality to be so exceptional to justify the price or quantity. Greeted immediately upon entry. The layout is interesting. As a short chick, I struggled getting in and out of my chair. The food selection is good but not super unique. The fish was fresh and tasty! We liked the cucumber salads. Separating the plastic from the nori was also a struggle. At other handroll places we've been to we would just get the rolls at a pace that allowed us to eat comfortably and not worry about the nori getting soggy or feeling rushed. So I've gone here a few more times and have a pretty good grasp of what's good here. The spicy tuna is consistently 5/5, but the toro is inconsistent every single time. Sometimes the toro is really stringy and it just isn't the best experience. My friend got me the toro hand roll on accident (I wanted the toro special) and I will probably never get it again. Another friend of mine also had a similar experience on a different day so maybe that's just how it is. I really hope they fix it. Hubby's fav was the salmon skin roll and mine was the snow crab roll. Everything was made-to-order and tasted delicious! Got to finally try Temaki bar, after seeing it pop up on my IG from friends trying it out. There aren't many hand roll places in the Bay Area so I was excited to try it out! Located in the Bloom plaza off of Snell and Blossom Hill, Temaki Bar is San Jose's newest hand roll bar. The menu is easy to order from with appetizers, hand roll sets to a la carte options. They also have an extensive drink menu. Ordered the hand roll set #3 and was impressed at the quality of fish. The seaweed's crispness is preserved by the plastic, which was pretty easy to remove prior to eating and ensures a better hand roll experience. You aren't rushed in eating your hand roll quickly once served. Good seaweed should be crisp and it's flavor enhancing the ingredients it's served with. Hand roll set #3 includes Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Hokkaido Scallop, Snow Crab and Salmon Skin. All of the fish was so fresh, tender and textures were perfect. Salmon had great color and clean tasting. The Hokkaido Scallop was succulent and sweet, with 2 scallops and cucumber. Spicy Tuna had a good bit of heat mixed with tobiko, green onion for freshness and sharpness. Snow Crab had a great amount of crab meat, flaked and crab meat laid across the top, briney and sweet. Salmon Skin wasn't excessively oily, the sauce served with it was sweet and savory. The portion of rice was perfect and wrapping each roll was easy, 2 bites per roll works well. They serve regular wasabi and ginger. You can opt for pickled wasabi for an additional $3, which is perfect for sharing between 2 or even 4 people tbh. Service is quickly served and flagging down a server was easy. It wasn't that crowded when we went so service was prompt. There was a miscommunication on one of the orders, but they quickly resolved it. Pricing is on the higher side compared to hand roll places in Southern California, but what isn't? My hand roll set of 5 is priced at $42. Finally got to try Temaki Bar after having it on my "want to try" list for so long! Came in with my best friend for dinner and service was quick, we were sat right away and attended to by our waitress. We both ordered Set 4 of the Hand Rolls that includes Salmon Hand Roll, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll, Hokkaido Scallop Hand Roll, Seared Wagyu Hand Roll, Toro Hand Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll. In addition, we ordered the Truffle Salmon Carpaccio from the Happy Hour Menu and the Scallop Uni Caviar Spoon. Food was super delicious and tasted so fresh, you can definitely sense the quality. A new handroll spot in SJ! We were looking for a new spot to try out in the area, and ended up landing here since their rolls looked so good on Yelp. They just opened a little over a month ago, so be sure to check them out! I actually ended up looooving this place - I really appreciated how kind the staff was immediately as we walked in. My BF and I ordered two set #3s ($42 ea), and an order of truffle salmon carpaccio ($14) as recommended by our server. Set #3 comes with a salmon, spicy tuna, Hokkaido scallop, snow crab, and salmon skin hand roll. I ended up enjoying all of them - with the salmon skin and to my surprise, the snow crab being my top contenders. The fish was all super fresh! I didn't initially expect the seaweed to be the style where you pull it apart yourself, but this was nice since it prevented the seaweed from getting moist since they serve it all at once. Note that it's bar seating only here. They also have TVs inside! They were playing the Warriors game as we were dining so it was a pleasant environment overall. read more

I took my mom here for a birthday lunch, and we arrived right when they opened. The interior was super cool - I loved the bar setup and the LED lighting. One thing I really appreciated was how they kept the plastic on the seaweed to prevent them from getting soggy until you're ready to eat. The fish was incredibly fresh, and I loved the unique toppings they added to each handroll. Our favorites were the Spicy Scallop and Salmon Belly handrolls--both were amazing! The only downside for me was that there was just a bit too much rice, but I normally eat less rice than other people. I've been seeing this all over social media and had to give it a try. For food alone, it wasn't too bad but the ambiance during our one visit solidifies my decision to never come back. We went to the bar on a Thursday evening around 8, and were seated right away. The restaurant was mostly empty except for a few people who seemed to be friends with the owner of the restaurant. Our server was super nice and took our order pretty quickly, and the food started coming out. The food is nothing spectacular to write about, I wasn't particularly impressed with any of the rolls except the spicy scallop roll. The regular rolls were pretty plain and rather pricey for what it was, and the toro, although thick and beautiful looking, was so stringy! I also didn't really like that each piece of seaweed was wrapped in plastic, because it was awkward to take off and honestly I didn't see the point in it especially when dining in. Now what really turned us off was the vibe of the restaurant. I don't think this is usual, but it honestly felt like we were interrupting an employee after party with the owner and his friends, and we felt so awkward being there. It definitely did not match the price of the food, and unfortunately, based off mostly the uncomfortable ambiance and the mediocre food, I don't think we will be returning. read more
