Stopped by on a Monday night for dinner. Greated and seated quickly. Service was great but I think i would mainly come here for bento box or other japanese cuisine not particularly sushi.

I am already excited to return to Yuri! This was a hidden gem we stumbled upon in a large plaza in the Evergreen area. It was moderately busy but had plenty of tables for customers in regular seating areas, bars, and various booths. The overall atmosphere was tranquil, quiet, and politely welcoming. Yuri has both Japanese and Korean options. They have some Korean entrees, sushi, and bento boxes, to name a few menu categories. I ordered the Bulgogi bento box, which came with miso soup, a side of salad, an orange slice, a large bowl of rice, a generous serving of bulgogi, gyoza, and tempura - all fairly priced. I loved the savory bulgogi and the tempura, although I gave my friend the shrimp one because I have a shrimp allergy. The other tempura were covered potatoes, and at first bite, I experienced crispiness and a melt in my mouth. After indulging in everything in my bento box, I was satisfied but did not feel too heavy after. It was the perfect portion size, and I also appreciated the excellent service my party received.

My mom and I frequented Yuri Japanese Restaurant over the years. They have been around since 1986 with the same owner! Congrats! They are located in a large shopping plaza with Lucky Supermarket, CVS Pharmacy, Evergreen Panda, Lee's Sandwiches, etc. There is plenty of parking available. The restaurant is very spacious and has different seating options available, like table, tatami, and sushi bar. In the past, we've ordered their bentos, and some sushi. Tonight, I was able to visit with them again. Since, I already ate dinner, I just picked up a California Roll. Traditional kani stick and avocado only. The rice was lightly seasoned with vinegar. The avocado was nice and soft. The owner is super friendly and nice. Overall, 3.5 stars but rounding up for service and quality of food.

I don't like the soup, so they gave me an extra salad!

Nice little mom & pop spot. Service was fast. The food was tasty. It's in a strip mall with a Lucky's and CVS. Plenty of parking. I will definitely be back.

The chicken Teriyaki Lunch Bento box(Called the Ichiban) here is an amazing deal for $16.50! Order it Togo or for dine in and see the generous amount of food that is given. I'm adding this wonderful mom and pop restaurant to my weekly takeout lunch list. Thank You Yuri's team and I will see you next week.

Date of Interaction: 2024-01-22 TL;DR: - Actual Rating: 4.2/5 - Rounded Rating: 4/5 - A quaint and cozy Japanese restaurant that provided an enjoyable sushi experience. Food: - Chirashi (4/5): This had a generous portion of thick slices of fish, and they were decent cuts at that--definitely a high value for the price spent! - Flashbang Roll (4/5): A salmon and salmon skin roll topped with some thin-cut lemon slices; I found it tasty and refreshing, though I and my wife did find the lemon slices just a little bit too thick and overpowering. Ambiance: - Space (4/5): While the linoleum floors and floormats feel a bit out of place, it's still a nice cozy space with nice Japanese styling and elements. - Noise (4/5): Their music is really muted, which I tend to find nice but there weren't that many guests so perhaps it swung a little bit too quiet in that regard. Service: - Attentiveness & Relatability (5/5): The waitress was very friendly and checked up on us during our meal. - Wait (4/5): We didn't have to wait to get a table; wait time for food was also about expected.

Stopped by on a Friday evening around 630 pm. Place was kind of packed. Seated right away for 3. Ordered beef sukiyaki, chirashi and tempura with beef teriyaki. Beef in the sukiyaki was hard to eat and chewy. By 7 pm, more customers were arriving. Overall, food tasted good and service was good. Probably will come back to try other items on menu.

I have been exploring restaurants near Evergreen district with my mom. She likes Japanese for so we took a shot at this place. We ordered a couple bento boxes. She had the one with save (mackerel) and I had a tempura box. It was quite nicely done. the tempura was crisp but lightly battered. It was not "armor plated" like some places that use thick batter and don't keep the ingredients cold until frying. My mom's mackerel was good as well. In general, a good, but average, experience. In the area, this is solid, but it is decidedly average once you are willing to go a little further.

We got a dinner for two and got nice cut's of fish!

Great food great service they keep it old-school, but only the best ways. Really fresh and friendly people. The place has an old-school decor if you're on the east side of San Jose it needs sushi. Here should be the only place you come to.

I love how hen you walk in they welcome you with a greeting in Japanese. The staff is friendly and very attentive. This place is small and it was just hard for me to get into the seat of the table. But their food is really good. I started with the miso soup, followed by the hilly roll, rainbow roll and San Jose roll. I highly recommend checking this place out if your on the evergreen side of San Jose.

Baked salmon Roll and Caterpillar Roll TAKEOUT
    Rebecca W.

Honestly, this place hits the spot. Nothing crazy fancy nor spectacular, but they do have an amazing assortment of super interesting rolls for when you're craving a decadent version of Americanized sushi. The ingredients are by no means "Japanese" (lmao @ the macadamia nuts on the rolls), but the flavors work and I fully embrace the heresy with acknowledgment that this is American sushi. We got the baked salmon and caterpillar roll for takeout, which was honestly pretty expensive for the size of it. It was a standard sized roll, but the baked salmon was about $18, which is the most I've ever paid for a roll. Not sure if this is accounting for inflation or the pandemic, but all these other reviews saying how giant the roll is....I don't see it? Where?? Anyways, I was super craving baked salmon, so I still enjoyed my meal. The food was 3.5 ...4 stars maybe? Based on pure comfort satisfaction. But for the price, that hurt a bit. For that reason, I think I'll leave my review at 3 stars.

Forgot to take photos of the Sake Don, Chirashi and Sashimi plates, only remembered taking photo of the first roll order that came out. The roll was just ok. The rice was a bit too soft, more like rice cake. Considering the sauces that were on that roll, it was fairly bland. The fish slices were thick and fresh enough to not have strong fishy aftertaste even though we had quite a lot of them. The chirashi bowl and sashimi plate came with the same exact fish selection: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore/white tuna (I think), mackerel, and escolar. Yes, this place is one of those that has escolar. It didn't register in my mind at first until I ate a couple of pieces, I thought it was pretty good, but then I remembered what I read about that fish ... We quickly finish up, pay, and drove home with minutes to spare. Price to quality is decent compared to other sushi place, I have had better sushi at similar price point but it is not bad at all. Payment and tipping practice still with paper bill that was left on the table for us to fill.

Spicy tuna roll 2. Spider roll 3. Rainbow roll 4. Tiger roll 5. Miso soup 6. Seaweed salad We also ordered Asahi beer and hot sake. The food was very good and we gave a solid 10/10 (the ratio of rice to filling was well balanced), the hot sake was smooth, and the beer was very cold. Everything was priced well compared to other sushi restaurants. Most rolls we ordered ranged from $6.95 to $13. Staff were very nice and attentive. The restaurant was clean and quiet. Two things I want to highlight:: (1) the restaurant closes at 9pm, and stops serving new clients at 8:45pm. The service was really good though. Food came out fast both times after ordering. The gentleman that was helping our table was very kind and attentive. He kept coming by to check on how everything was going. The food itself was pretty good, but there is a lack of consistency from last year compared to this year. I did not want to make a fuss about it at the restaurant, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of the fish. It wasn't as fresh this time. The restaurant has a cozy vibe. There's 30 minute parking available at the front of the restaurant. It is all street parking. The first time I was here we ordered: -Dragon Roll -Beef Roll -Gyoza -Chicken Karaage -Fried Calamari -Salmon Maki -Salmon Avocado -Double Double Salmon -49ers Roll Second Time Order: -Alaska Roll -Salmon Maki -Rock n Roll -Chicken Karaage appetizer -Fried Calamari appetizer -Golden California Roll -Dragon Roll -Salmon Avocado The Alaska roll according to the menu has spicy cooked salmon, cucumber, topped with unagi sauce and tobiko. The unagi sauce seemed to be more at the bottom than drizzled at top, but the waitress was kind enough to ask me if I wanted some of the unagi sauce on the side, which was very nice. It made a big difference in terms of flavor. Eating the Alaska roll without the extra unagi sauce, I was only able to taste the Sriracha. By the way, it did not mention on the menu that the Alaska roll was going to have both spicy mayo and Sriracha on it. I'm not a fan of Sriracha. The spicy mayo I can do, but the Sriracha ruined it for me. The dragon roll was ordered last year and this year. Please see the photos for how inconsistent the roll is. There were more ingredients the first time we ordered this roll. There was more avocado last year. The gyozas were pretty good. They came out hot and crispy, but not dry. They had a good amount of flavor. The beef roll had asparagus and beef in it. It's a pretty good combination. The chicken Karaage was good both times, but I did notice it was juicier when we ordered it last year. The salmon maki was much better last year than when I ordered it this year. I am not sure if a different person was making the rolls, but the rolls didn't fall apart last time like it did today. Most importantly though, the salmon was fresher the first time I had it. They definitely changed something other than the appearance. It was also pretty upsetting that the pieces of salmon maki were uneven. Only 2 of the pieces were tall, whereas last year, I was given all 6 pieces that had the same height. It makes it look like the sushi I got today was less. I had all the photos of the sushi from last year on my old phone, so I wasn't able to show the waiter or the owner the comparison. The rock n roll is a good portion, but there was barely any bbq eel in it. It was literally just a little tiny piece in the corner of the sushi. I do appreciate that the avocado is fresh and creamy in the rolls that we ordered. 49ers roll - is one of my go to rolls for something light and refreshing. The lemon slices add a really nice touch. I love that the lemon is thinly sliced and the rind was actually included. It adds a bit of tartness to the flavor, which I find satisfying. The salmon was very fresh. I only ordered it last year and not this time since my husband and I were at a prior event that had food, but we were still craving sushi lol. The fried calamari was good, but this time that we got it, the portion was significantly smaller. I'm not sure why. It has good texture and crispiness. There was also a piece of calamari that ended up in our chicken Karaage, which we didn't know what it was at first, but later found out it was calamari lol. No complaints about the Double Salmon Roll. If you love raw salmon, more raw salmon, avocado and tobiko, that one is a good option. The Golden California roll was okay. We felt like it had too much batter though. Salmon Avocado roll was a lot better the first time we were here as well. I don't know if their raw fish supplier changed or something, but the salmon definitely didn't taste the same. I know it's been a year and some may think how do I remember? I'm a sushi fanatic/connoisseur. When I eat sushi and it's good, I have a little happy dance that I do. First time I was here I did the happy dance and that's why I wanted to come back here again. The prices are very affordable here and the service is great. However, I was pretty disappointed today (8/8/2026) with the presentation of the rolls and the freshness of the salmon or lack of freshness I should say. I would love to come back again, but I just don't want to be disappointed. I'm really hoping to have a better food experience here in the future.
