YAY!!! I dont have to drive far for decent ramen at a reasonable price! I'm not talking about that Nissin instant noodle crap. Im talking about authentic (for Gilroy Standards) ramen. Usually, I have to drive to Orenchi in Santa Clara for some good ramen but no more. I ordered the Hiroshima Spicy Noodles. They were perfect. It was spicy enough to burn the back of my nose, but seasoned enough that I didnt need to add anything else. I was very satisified for the portion and price. I noticed the other ramen choices were good but had something missing. My sisters got the spicy ramen and regular ramen with the combo. They were good but left me wanting to add more soy sauce like what Fernando said. My only little bug a boo are the waiters bringing in the food and taking the dishes. They were really slow and did it one by one.....I mean they were old but still... Anyways, this is definitely a great addition to gilroy lifestyle. read more

I've been here a handful of times since they opened and the ramen is generally consistently good, with the broth being neither too salty or too bland. Sometimes the pork they put in the bowls is rather fatty or tough though. Today's order of tempura banana had a banana that was disappointing in its lack of sweetness hence the 4-star review. I just wish there was a NEGATIVE star option. My very first experience with this restaurant was the server spilling boiling tea on my lap. She had a lack of concern with the situation and her very first remark was "oh wow I feel bad cuz that happened to me last week also". I was a good sport about it and I didn't let it bother me. Me and my cousin placed our orders to their credit my cousin did enjoy their CRUNCHY EEL ROLL. I ordered the chicken bento box and when my order came in I got beef. Then when they finally came with my chicken my very first bite was the straw that broke the camels back. There was a "brush hair" on it. Would I recommend this place to people ? I believe in accidents and it does happen from time to time . I believe that my server didn't informed the owner or manager of any of the incidents that happened. Came here for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. The waitress seemed very nice and attentive the whole time. The food, however, was just ok. Nothing wrong with it, just not the best food I ever had. I ordered the sushi combo and thought the rolls and nigiri were good but didn't match the price tag. We also got Takoyaki which was good but the octopus was a little tough. The Surfer's Roll was very tasty! The citrus sauce is unique but very good with the fish. It was also pretty expensive for what it was but I would recommend it. The rolls range from about $7- $15. I believe my combo was about $15 too. They also serve ramen! I don't live in Gilroy so I wouldn't make the trek to come out again but if I were in the area I would come back. read more

The first time I came it was pretty good. Got one of the specials with sashimi and a roll, and it was good. Nothing to write home about, but better than some other places in town for sure. Service was a bit slow. Came back less than a week later, and was actually pretty disappointed. They had us wait a moment, then said seat yourselves, so we sat at the only clean table in the corner. Not sure why we had to wait, they didn't clean any tables or talk to us in the interim. Service was slow again, but worse. Luckily they took our order all at once, but everything came out sporadically. They never asked if we wanted any water, or how everything was after we got our food. The server came to the table next to us literally 5 times before she ever checked on us after we got our food, and even then it was only because I flagged her down for more ginger. The sake was not very hot and they do not give you enough ginger for more than 1 roll, because they bring out a single serving with wasabi on its own dish instead of a bit on each roll or sashimi plate. Then she brings the check, never asks if we wanted dessert (though apparently they have mochi?) and never brought my sister her tea... and gave her kind of a rude look when she asked about it. Haven't been here in over a year, remember it being a great place. The food: excellent flavor. The fish is very fresh and the sauces are amazing. Loved the 49ers Roll and the Pismo roll. Really good. Had teriyaki and tempura for appetizer. I haven't had shrimp tempura as fresh as here in a really long time. So why so low of a rating? Well, restaurants are more than food. The portions were very small. I get that sushi is expensive. But don't gouge the locals just because the other sushi places in town are not that good. We left hungry and we rarely have that experience when eating out. Service: slow. To my point above, we WANTED to order another roll, but it would have taken forever. The waitress was not rude, but she wasn't very helpful either. At one point, she even told us she didn't want to anger the kitchen staff. Really? What goes on back there anyway? Also, we ordered extra sauce for our rolls but it never came. The ambiance was not very energetic, either. We expected a warm, excited greeting typical of sushi places. Nothing. Thank you walking out the door? Nope. You just don't feel welcome here. I want to dine in town. Keep the local economy going, but places like this is why we keep exploring places north of here. Stopped in on our way from Napa to Paso Robles. Nice decor, very comfortable seats. Enjoyed Sonomono, Nigiri, and spicy tuna hand-rolls with surprisingly great quality fish. Impeccable cleanliness including the bathrooms. The server was a young man, who was a bit shy, and not very knowledgeable, and therefore not the best representative. Service was a bit slow. Food was a average in my opinion. Not the worst. Definitely not the best. What takes it down to 2 stars is the service. We were seated right away. Orders taken in about 5 minutes. Good so far. Then we get 2 of the 4 rolls we ordered in about 10 minutes. So my wife and daughter watch me and my son eat some sushi. 30 minutes later my wife and daughter get their teriyaki bowls. Sooo now our turn to watch them eat. 10 minutes after that we got one of the last rolls we ordered. And as I sit here almost 65 minutes after ordering...we still haven't received our crab leg rolls. The place has gotten a makeover... A good one! It's more modern and they now have a sushi bar with Japanese sushi chefs! The place is tiny, but very clean with attentive servers. Portions are smaller than other sushi places in town and pricier, but the quality of the food is superb! The ramen is delicious. The broth is super flavorful and the noodles are nice and chewy. I had the tonkatsu ramen which was topped with spinach, bamboo shoots, corn, and slices of pork. The veggies were nice and fresh and the pork was nice and tender. The tempura is fantastic! Super crispy batter and the veggies also still had a bite to them. The dipping sauce was perfect, with just the right amount of salt flavor to it. The fish is fresh here. I've had the salmon teriyaki. They don't douse with sauce, just the right amount of sauce with a nice crispy skin. Their rolls are unique and tasty! You must try the spicy tuna on crispy rice bed. It's a game changer. I sit at home and crave this dish. The spicy tuna is fresh and has nice soft texture with a flavorful yet not overpowering spice. It sits on top of little squares of deep fried sushi rice and is topped with a fresh Wasabi sauce. So good! If you haven't tried this quaint little sushi spot, I recommend it. I enjoy the diversity of the rolls and the creative presenting of some of the dishes. I highly recommend the carpaccio and the grilled mushroom salad. The servers are fantastic and enjoyable to interact with. The quality of the food is delicious and beyond expectation. I wish I could give this a higher rating however the location does take incredibly too long for the food preparation. We require at least an hour and a half every time we go here. I have yet to have a meal here where everyone at the table gets food during the same time. Most meals only one person is eating and the others are still waiting for their items. I used to give this place 6 stars because of the food. In fact this place is in my GPS. My wife is Japanese and we feel the Yakisoba is some of the best in the WORLD! However the service Sucks. The owner knows how to cook but not manage a restaurant. The service is so poor that it takes about 30 minutes to get a glass of water and to take your order. One waitress for the whole joint? Ten Japan was way better than I expected. I love sushi and their Philly roll was probably the best Philly roll I've ever had (and I've had a lot of Philly rolls). The ratio of rice to filling was perfect - more filling than rice! Sign of some quality sushi, right there. I got the Miso Ramen and it was delicious (although I was sad to see no seasoned eggs included) and the house salad had great dressing (I got the creamy ginger) with crisp, fresh greens. We were very impressed with the food and service. We ordered 2 rolls (California and Philly) and we each got miso ramen and left content (perfectly full without feeling like a bloated sausage) with some left over ramen for lunch tomorrow. I say 100% N.O....here's why: 1 . ordered 3 rolls, 1 bento box, edamame AND we (4 peeps) were still very much left hungry. Mind you these come with salads & soups. The rolls are very very very small & cut thin. 2. Wasabi was wrapped super ghetto in saran wrap 3. When I picked up the food, the bags were very light in terms of weight ~ which in this case equaled to mean light on the food served. 4. Sushi was not tasty & it was warm ?? 5. AND worst of all, it cost over $$60 bones. {---NO GO with this one! When you can go to Ninja & be stuffed to the gills! I'm a little torn on this review. The fish was fresh and the food was good! However, like another poster pointed out.. The order and timing of dishes is skewed. Maybe there's only one person preparing food? I gave 4 stars for the quality of fish and friendly service. But I almost gave 3 stars due to the fact that I dropped over a note on the bill and still left hungry. The portion sizes are too small on certain dishes. The menu was vague on what was a dinner size item vs an appetizer. The udon and ramen bowls look filling though. I'll be back and just a little more conscientious of what I'm ordering. The first time Yelp has failed me. This place ranked 4.5 stars with over 50 reviews. How is that possible!? I should have known to turn around the moment I walked in and saw that the place was empty on a Friday evening. My next clue should have been seeing one of the chefs through the window clean his teeth with a floss-pick. We ordered some ramen, sushi, and a combo special for my son that came with a salad, Cali roll, and ramen. The salad came, my son took a bite and recoiled. I tasted the salad and sure enough it was soaked with a nearly pure soy sauce dressing. Back to the kitchen it went. Ramen comes. They mix up which one was for us and for our son and couldn't figure it out. It is barely steaming. Never a good sign for ramen. I comment that it was strange that one of them had just two slices of pork and the other had five. I took a bite of the cabbage first. Ice cold. Now I know why the ramen wasn't steaming. So I taste the broth. The broth in ramen is what it is all about. This was a one-note ramen broth. The noodles could easily be right from the .25 cent package. Blah. The pork, meh. Then the waiter comes back with a plate with three slices of pork on it. They look strange. I touch one and it is ice cold. Not lukewarm. Ice cold as in taken directly from the refrigerator. No wonder the ramen was not hot. Next up is a couple of sushi rolls, first the Eskimo and then the butterfly. The Eskimo has red onion in it. The red onion was so strong it burned. Totally overpowered all other flavors. Sauce was meh. Butterfly roll had to be the most bland sushi roll I have ever tasted. Then came the poki salad which should have come out first. Inedible. Again the chefs heavy hand with soy sauce made the barely mediocre fish completely impossible to stomach. The waiter came by and asked how we enjoyed things so I told him all of the above. We asked for the check. It came. No offer for a write down or anything despite them bussing away less than half eaten food and all my explanation. I put down my Amex only to be told they do not take Amex. So I went digging for cash. The waiter came back and said they would forgive the check. I left a tip and left. AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

They've recently remodeled and now have a really cool sushi bar you can sit at and watch the sushi master. (Update added 4/29/2016) Every time I've been here, the food has been top notch with casual but attentive service. We tried the oyster appetizers and several sushi rolls tonight. Everything was tasty and delicious. We observed quite a few take-out orders, too. The decor is simple and modern with contemporary metal art on the walls...very zen-like and calming. The service is absolutely terrible, we got here right at opening and ordered food togo, here we are literally 45 minutes later and no one had said anything to us and every time I try to get a waitress attention or make eye contact they ignore me and look away. After finally getting her attention she acts like nothing is wrong and says it will be out in a few minutes. I liked most of the small plates that were ordered such as the braised pork belly, vegetable tempura, and Crispy Unagi salad. Small critiques for the food as the Unagi salad was overdressed, the Gyoza falls apart too easily, too much sesame oil in the Gyoza sauce, skewers need work... The service is really bad I'm sad to say. We were helped by 2 very inexperienced servers. We were told to sit anywhere and wasn't spoken to for 10 minutes. After that a waiter comes to the table next to us and asks if they were ready, seeing that they already had food he said oh and turned to us. Ready? We order beer & sake, 5 minutes.. cups & glasses show up, no beer & sake, few minutes.. beer shows up, no sake. 5 minutes.. we ask the waitress if our sake is coming. She blames the waiter and goes to get it. Woof... And we haven't even ordered yet. The waiter answered my questions about the food with uh's, umm's, and I think's. Then took our order without writing any of it down, took a few steps away from the table and came back and asked, what do you want again? I won't even tell the rest.. They were nice and tried but a little rough to deal with. So don't expect great service out of this place but give it a try. Next time.. sashimi. It will tell me everything I need to know! read more

I came here because my favorite sushi place was closed. This is the first time I've been back since the remodel. The food was good. I was looking for something simple, such as a Bento Box. They didn't have that option, but a two item lunch combo works. The server was attentive, but quiet. We had to ask for water. We came close to lunch closing, and it was telling. My lunch date and I wanted to get dessert and the server brought us a check without checking if we wanted dessert. This is the same thing that happened the last time I came here. In the end, I can only describe this place as meh. I'd come in a pinch, but they don't seem to want customers. Someone came in at 3:05pm saying that they had called to ask if the restaurant was open and were told Yes. When they arrived they were turned away. The potential customer even said they should have been warned on the phone about closing soon. It was a loud interaction that everyone in the restaurant saw... Just moved to Gilroy and was really pleased to find a good Japanese restaurant. Fresh tuna and salmon nigiri - yummy! Roasted shitake nigiri was awesome - I've never had that before. Also the AB 10 roll was delicious. The staff was great, at least for a to go order. Will definitely try again and eat there next time. read more

Sapporo Seafood Ramen for starters, this was under seasoned big time. i had to put lots of soy sauce just to recognize the broth and sadly the broth's taste is quite forgettable. shrimp was cooked well however the calamari and clam were rubbery at some parts. i felt like the sweetness from the baby scallops needed some acid to balance my palate. noodles tasted like over cooked instant noodles. garnished with slices of green onions. i feel like the lack of texture and flavor was a huge let down. Grilled scallop & bacon on skewers Again, these are baby scallops. i think there was like 7 pieces of scallop and 7 pieces of like half inch by half inch bacon on a skewer. bacon wasn't crispy. garnished with green onions with this sort of tapatio half & half sauce. the sauce had no vinegar but it did have the spicy kick similar from tapatio. i just wished the sauce had a lemon taste to cut through the fattiness from the bacon and sweetness from the scallops. i've noticed at other ramen places they have a spot on the menu where a customer can add extra meat or noodles or whatever to their ramen. i'm surprise this place doesn't have that and i think they're missing out on opportunity. hopefully their pork ramen can leave a better impression. read more
