When we go for Sushi in Gilroy we go here! Great food, intimate atmosphere, good prices. HIghly recommend!

Hands down BEST Japanese restaurant around! Sushi was amazing! Everything was fresh and authentic. Can't believe there was even an open table! We tried the RJ Dyer roll which was a play on surf and turf, the crunch roll, and Eskimo roll. All were fabulous! The Gyoza was meaty and delicious. The fried chicken appetizer with ginger aioli was tasty as well! I was very impressed with the quality and flavors of every dish. The one thing they needed was a little music but definitely worthy of 5 stars and can't wait to go back for more!!! So happy to have this hidden gem in Gilroy! read more

I should have listened to a voice of reason when deciding to eat sushi in Gilroy. These place looks Japanese but what they serve is not. California roll is of Safeway quality at best. Chicken teriyaki is just plain weird. It's boiled cooked plain chicken pieces in a bed of reduced and therefore much too salty soy sauce, definitely not teriyaki. Ramen soup? Much too cold when served. In between instant grocery store ramen bowl that's 10 packs for $1 and supermarket deli self-serve buffet quality. The salad that comes with, also not traditional, it's actually fresh greens as opposed to lettuce, which is nice, but the dressing is the same over salty brown liquid in place of a creamy white. Everything tasted bland, not authentic, like a plastic display. Service is slow. No plates served, no small dishes for sushi. I had to ask for ginger and wasabi. Waiters seemed distraught or rather preoccupied with something else but serving us. The place is rather small, so I don't get it why did they seem not entirely there, it wasn't even full. Oh yeah, and we had to ask for hot tea, too. Never got refilled. If you are in Gilroy and contemplate having a sushi dinner - skip it. You'll thank me later. read more

Omg, this may be the best Japanese restaurant I've been to in the South Bay! We had grilled shishito peppers, agedashi tofu, assorted sushi, the AB10 roll and finished off with uni sushi tonight. The shishito peppers were sweet, warm and perfectly cooked, with a sprinkling of bonito flakes lending a delicate smoky flavor and contrasting texture to the sweet peppers...mmmm. I generally love most tofu dishes but this may have been the best agedashi tofu I have ever had. The broth it came in had notes of ginger and grated daikon and the tofu was hot and slightly crisp on the outside and smooth on the inside with green onions sprinkled on top. Heavenly! I asked for a spoon and slurped up all the broth! I could eat this everyday! Our Uni was from Japan -it looked different from the Californian uni most sushi bars serve. It was smooth, custardy, sweet and without the briny aftertaste that less stellar uni often has....yumm! On previous visits, we have ordered the chirashi bowl (superb) and the Hiroshima and Yokohama noodles -all scrumptious! Can't wait to go back and try something new again soon! read more

Very solid Sushi. They're doing some very interesting stuff here. A lot of fun unusual flavor combos and weird truffle oil goodness. Food takes a while to come out but the wait is worth it. The waiter appeared to be a kid that didn't really know how to be a waiter--not really great. Very few restaurants would I downgrade for service but when it's super hard to get your food ordered and then something gets missed and the bill is a bit off, you get the feeling that something isn't going right. Especially when we were the only ones there...? So I'll definately go back but I'm definately on the fence about giving it higher marks. They're still pretty new so maybe soon they will hit their stride. read more

The owner has done a fantastic job remodeling the space, making it feel more like a restaurant actually in Japan, and a lot less like a restaurant in a strip mall in suburbia. Pride in the preparation of the food is apparent, and the owner is welcoming. The natural wood bar is a great statement piece as well. It is one of the only restaurants in Gilroy that knows that not all the lights available need to be on, at full blinding strength, as well. This is the best sushi place in Gilroy, and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys the cuisine, and is looking for a higher level total experience compared to other offerings in town. read more

The garlic edamame was greasy. The rolls were tasteless and heavy on mayo based sauces. Too expensive for the poor quality.

Called for an order to pick up and the guys says can you call back in 20-30 min to order because we are busy right now. Uh how about you take my order and I will come pick it up in 20-30 min. He said no. If you know how to properly run your kitchen and front end that won't be a problem. Sorry, lousy customer service for a half decent bowl of Ramen. No I will not call back in 20-30 min. So this is a weird post for me giving it a one, due to the fact this restaurant has pretty good food. If I was just rating the food I'd give it a 4 star. Sushi is good, dumplings are good and they have good variety. Reason for the rating is I agree with other reviewers that it is a bit pricey. My main problem is they are never open! We live right around the corner and have tried to go 3 different times during their 'business hours' and they are either closed, or theres people in there eating and we were turned away. The last time we went we walked in and waited to be seated. When we went in the place was packed but there wasn't a wait. The server came up to us and said they were closed. My husband got so mad he just immediately walked out, and I stood there confused while the waiter apologized. According to their sign on the door they closed at 9:00pm, and it was only 8:10pm. As I said there was a ton of people in there eating, so I got the impression they just didnt want to serve us in case it went past their closing time. If that's the case they need to close at 8 and lock their doors. We had been two other times before this where the sign on the door said they should be open but they were closed. So as I started this review my opinion of the food was from a carry out order we had once. Since then all 3 times we tried going during hours and were turned away or they were closed. Not sure how that's good business, so because of that we stopped trying to give them our business. read more

We were driving back to San Jose from Torrance and my son was hungry for noodles. He had shoyu ramen with CA roll without cucumber. No problem. He ate it all up. I had shoyu ramen too. It had corn, cabbage, spinach, chashu, bamboo shoots and green onions. My husband had the chicken teriyaki/karaage combo. He said it was really good. Too bad it's so far away. He doesn't compliment food very often so his food must have been great. Well, if we go shopping at the outlets, we know where we'll go to eat. read more

I'm a Japanese food snob. I was pleasantly surprised that this food was actually pretty good. I had the ramen and several pieces of sushi. My wife had the tempura dinner. I'd return and bring others. The worst sushi experience ever!!!! So before I had gotten the this establishment I was having a really bad day. So, to help me have a better day my lovely bf took me out to dinner. When we got their we had walked in and no one was in the front waiting for people to come in so they can seat them. So we waited a good 15 mins to get some ones attention. Finally we got seated and had to wait another 10 mins to get drinks and ask them questions (this was our first time here). When someone got our attention we asked them questions and he didn't seem excited or really have any emotion about his job. While waiting for our food I was watching a table across from us, and noticed that the table was dirty from the time we walked in. There were at least 3 other small parties waiting for a table, but the table was still dirty (for at least 30 mins). There had to of been 8 waiters and 3 busboys and nothing. But the sushi was amazing!!!! Clean and fresh! And cheap. I would love to come back to have a different experience (maybe) but my boyfriend never wants to back ever again. read more

I have been enjoying good Japanese food since they opened. My favorites are the seaweed salad, Tobiko sushi, Octopus sushi, miso soup and the AB10 roll. The restaurant looks great since the remodel and the sushi bar is beautiful. If you are ever in Gilroy it is worth the stop. read more

Walking in, its warm inside. You are greeted by nervous shy waiters. Menu variety is ok, but they dont have bento boxes. The rolls we ordered were good and came out one by one. They could be better at refilling your drink and being more personable. The hard part here is the staff is very reserved and quiet to the point of making you uncomfortable but they are kind. Price point on the food is reasonable. The music stopped half way through dinner and made things kind of awkward because its small in there and there were 3 other tables of people close by so conversations could be peeped upon. I ordered the green tea creme brule because other reviewers said it was great. It was very cold in the inside with its sugar crusted top, not what i expexted. Overall this place was just ok. I see room for improvement and i hope it does well but theres nothing really drawing me to come back when the other sushi places in Gilroy offer more of what im looking for. read more

I cant believe I forgot to review this place!!! Went here on my baday with a friend for lunch. I got the eel roll, the pismo dave roll, miso soup, and salad. My friend got an eel roll and one more roll I cant remember. The eel roll was the BEST Ive had. Period. Dare I say better than Takara (one of my fav americanized sushi joints) yes, I have to give it to ten japan. The food is cooked perfectly and the fpod is the freshest Ive tasted at a japanese restaurant. The specialty rolls are americanized ( of course lol) but the rest of the menu is traditional japanese food AND they only serve bento boxes at lunch! Which is traditional as well :) You do have to wait for the food and it doez come out at different times, but I dont care its worth the wait ( although my kids wouldnt be as cooperative) I cant wait to try their ramen and one of everything else on the menu lol. Next time Ill try the green tea cremebrulee - Ive heard its delicious. ( Gave it four stars since ive only eaten their once and want to make sure its consistantly good) read more

my wife and i stopped in. had the strawberry nigori sake. waaaaay too sweet. need to change brands. there are better ones out there. had citrus roll. was ok average size and taste. wife had 911 roll. a little small for the money. we will stick with nija sushi down the street. rolls are bigger and little fresher. more bang for the $$. read more
