This place was very nice inside and very BUSY! Thankfully we made a reservation which I HIGHLY recommend doing. We did show up 45 minutes early so we sat at the bar and had a drink. We were immediately greeted but the bartender was STRESSED. I actually felt bad for her, she was alone and had a lot going on. But, she was attentive and very nice. Sushi and oysters were so good! The steak we ordered for the teppanyaki side wasn't one of the best we've had. It was not seasoned as well and for the price we paid and amount of food we ordered it was kind of a let down. Visited Teppan Tora when family was in town from out of state, every time they visit, we try to go to a teppanyaki restaurant because everyone knows the Central Valley has the best! We came during Christmas so they were pretty busy, but with a reservation we were sat right away. My family ordered saki, which they seemed to enjoy. My sister and her husband ordered some appetizers, including sushi and they really liked it. The soup, salad and entrees were delicious. I ordered the steak which was cooked perfectly. The fried rice wasn't my favorite fried rice I've had, but it was pretty good. My only complaint was that the veggies weren't cooked all the way so they were crunchy, the onions are typically one of my favorite sides, but in this case, I couldn't even eat them. Overall, we had a good experience, I know they haven't been open all that long, so maybe they just need some time to iron everything out. Restaurant is clean and decorated nicely. Edo Ya is my usual Go To for Teppan, but today went to Teppan Tora for the second time. Can't say enough good about it. What a great experience. No crowd. Very relaxing. I always order teriyaki chicken, friends went with steak, and they didn't disappoint. On par with any other I've had. Portions were generous and tasty. Couldn't find a complaint if I tried. Server Anders and chef Jeremiah were engaging and friendly. All in all, an excellent, enjoyable experience with no possible room for improvement. 5 Star. My husband and I wanted to try this place and it turned out to be a disappointment. My husband ordered the ponzu plate . New York steak with fried rice and asparagus for $ 37. It literally looked like a child's plate. It had a mini cup of bacon fried rice (it looked like it was sitting out for a bit) and three pieces of withered asparagus cut into six pieces. The teppanyaki isn't anything original or different from your typical teppanyaki, which can be found in other Fresno restaurants. At about $40/plate, it's also on the expensive end for dinner, but given portion size, could also serve as lunch the next day. There was plenty of room for more guests on the teppanyaki side on a Sunday night. Both the chef and waiter were attentive. I enjoyed my dinner, but noted that the ambience could have been improved after the ownership change, as the walls are very dark and make the room feel small. Some modernization would be nice. I also felt quite warm seated around the teppanyaki grill. The air conditioner needed to be turned up. The teppanyaki was really delicious and had more flavor than I have had at other places. I ordered the jumbo scallops with fried rice. The soup and salad to start the meal was just enough to get your appetite going but light enough to where you weren't full. Came for Teppanyaki dinner with my son a few days ago, having been a patron of the previous restaurant. Nice redecorating job. We came before the dinner rush, and were promptly seated by a friendly hostess. The menu was similar in content to the previous one. We ordered shrimp tempura for an appetizer, which was plenty for the two of us. Son had filet mignon and I had the New York Strip and Shrimp. The meals started with sliced mushroom soup and were served with bacon fried rice, and assorted vegetables. All were cooked to perfection and were delicious. They also supplied the hot and thick sauce I love. Washed it down with some hot sake. The portions were such that I took an entire meal's worth of food home. Service was top notch. Our server Devin immediately took care of our appetizers and drink orders. My wife and I enjoyed a dragon roll and Asahi, while the kids had Miso Soup and salad. We needed lunch on a day off, preferably near where we had an errand to run, and lucky for us Yelp showed us a brand new place to get some sushi. I hadn't had sushi in ages and I was excited to try something new. They didn't even have a sign up but thanks to other helpful Yelp reviews we had no trouble finding it. Our server, Anders, was so fun and said my husband looked like Sean Astin, so I immediately liked him. I am in my late 30s, I completely own that I want a partner who looks like Dave Morgan, Samwise Gamgee, and Bob from Stranger Things. I've only gotten to the ambiance and service and it's already a 5 star experience. Then we had the sushi. Delicious. Average price for sushi, which is to say a lot, but a wonderful treat. I wish I could have more right now honestly. I would definitely not mind visiting this place again, especially because I want to try their tepanyaki. I void to never return to Beni Hana and that promise I will keep, but if I ever want a similar experience and good food I'd come here to Teppan Tora again. I've been coming to this restaurant for years, even before it was Tepan Tora, but today was my last time. I ordered 4 teppanyaki meals to go (at $50 per meal) and when I got home, there were no spicy sauces that always come with the meals. My kids wouldn't even eat without them. When I called, I was told the sauces are only "complimentary" if you dine in and that I'd have to pay $1 each for to-go orders. Seriously? After spending over $200, they want to nickel-and-dime me for sauce? To make it worse, the manager Natalie was extremely rude and dismissive. She basically said if I'd ever received sauce before, it was only because someone was "just being nice." This is unacceptable.
