This is a Korean Style Teppanyaki located in the fast-food court area of Ala Moana shopping center near the Macy's side. There weren't too many selections, but the ribeye burrito sounded very delicious. I ended up ordering a boneless kalbi over brown rice, which was tasty but meet was a bit dry, kinda like beef jerky dry. If I ever come back, I will definitely try the ribeye burrito. read more

My favorite item here is the New York Steak plate and french fries. Both are gluten-free. This doesn't mean free from cross-contamination because everything is cooked on the same surface, but the french fries are safe. They only cook french fries in the fryer which is a good thing for me. I also like to add the wasabi mayo to my ketchup and dip the french fries in it. Their New York Steak is so tender and juicy. The rice is always perfect and the meat juices from the steak are a perfect complement to the white rice that I get. I've also had their shrimp scampi and fell in love with the garlic butter sauce that I rolled my rice in to gather up every last drop. I've also ordered the philly cheesesteak with no bun and just lettuce. read more

Love the steak and pork rolls from when they were Tae's by Palama Market. Haven't seen this dish served anywhere else, with the thin meat wrapped around shredded potato. The roll plates are 5 stars on taste! Total 4 stars instead of 5 because the price went up significantly from the old location but the portion size is smaller (or maybe inconsistent). Rent at Ala Moana must be high! I think the old price was around $9. It's now around $13. For a $13 takeout plate in a food court setting (vs. a sit down restaurant) I'd expect the portion size to be a little bigger. The plate includes rice and salad, but salad is basically just romaine lettuce. They put the hot meat on half of the romaine lettuce instead of on the rice. So you end up with 2 bites of salad and a bunch of wilted lettuce. read more

I was so excited to finally try a steak roll after hearing rave testimonials of Tae's Teppanyaki's, the since-closed original creator of the steak roll and Teppanyaki Farmer's parent restaurant. The verdict? Meh. Thinly sliced beef probably sliced too thin for the cook time yields a dry, tough slab for the outer layer of the roll. The ratio of beef to shredded potato is another pitfall, with wayyy too much flavorless potato filler to meager slices of meat. I ate all my rice and left hungry. A unique dish and decently tasty for a few bites of food, but doesn't quite live up to the hype imo. read more

Teppanyaki Farmer is the revival of the once hole-in-the-wall restaurant called Tae's Teppanyaki on the edge of Makaloa Street. I have to admit that I don't remember Tae's Teppanyaki much even though I have dined there a few times. Now that they're in Ala Moana Shopping Center in the newly opened Lanai Food Court, they are much more accessible. No more fighting for precious parking spots on Makaloa Street! During lunchtime, the teppanyaki chef often lines up orders of the beef rolls, its most popular dish, ahead of time so wait times are often low. However, if you pick something special, like a pork roll, you'd have to wait since they will make it to order. The pork roll was what I picked with toppings of garlic chips. The shredded potato worked well with the rolled meat, but it often felt like the portions are small for the price. The garlic rice, although good, didn't pop like other flavored rice dishes that many other restaurants serve. All in all, a pretty good food court restaurant. Came here twice, when they first opened and a week ago. I'm disappointed that I could no longer get the fried rice. I'm not sure if they discontinued it or just ran out that day but I was looking forward to that. The first time I ate here, the steak roll was a little bit bigger and flavorful. When I went last week, the line was long and took a while for it to be done. Not a big deal but My son was done eating by the time my food was done. My steak roll had no flavor what so ever, no seasoning unlike before. Just the taste of garlic. I finally go to Teppanyaki Farmer....like many of you, I ate there when it was Tae's Teppanyaki...it was a food truck in the parking lot of at that time, Daiei. He and his wife eventually moved to the brick and mortar location on the corner of Makaloa. I continued to go there. I loved the beef and steak rolls and the fresh romaine lettuce salads. I thought the ponzu sauce was exceptional. Today, I went to the Teppanyaki Farmer and sadly it was not the same. I ordered the pork roll. It was overcooked and the salad was not fresh. I think they are now using premixed greens and some of the lettuce was kind of brown. Even the ponzu sauce tasted different to me. I ordered it with brown rice and the wasabi dressing. I don't think they put wasabi dressing. It was more like mayonnaise, no wasabi taste. Good thing he brown rice was good...after struggling with the pork (it wasn't cut all the way through and the potatoes all fell out) I passed on the salad and filled myself up with the brown rice. Really sorry to say, I was disappointed. Maybe because they have so many hired workers now..I hope they figure it out because the owner and his wife were really hardworking people with a great product. I remember the day Tae's Teppanyaki was located at the corner of Don Quijote and sadly the day they also closed. I thought I wouldn't get to eat that delicious rolled steak any longer. Fast forward to today. It's as if the stormy clouds dissipated the moment they opened their new location at the old Shirokiya unit of Ala Moana Center (inside the new Lanai food court). Change is good wherever there's growth and improvement. Even if Tae's Teppanyaki changed its name to Teppanyaki Farmer, the quality and taste stayed the same with a few additional items on their menu. I remember the same person that use to take my order from the old location with just a few non familiar faces. What attracts a lot of the hungry stomachs is watching the Teppanyaki chef flip thinly sliced steaks and julienned potatoes. The menu consists of options from bowl to the original steak rolls, wraps and breakfast items. The Boneless Kalbi with Egg looked hearty and delicious! Bowls vary prices from $9.25 to 12.95. The wraps are provided in either USDA Ribeye, pork, or garlic chicken, garlic shrimp. There are sandwiches as well. The Original Steak Roll is what I aim to have on my first visit. The steak rolls increased from their original cost of $10 to $12.95. The rolls are available in steak, pork, kimchee pork roll which include tossed greens, garlic chips, ponzu dipping sauce with a choice of either garlic fried rice or white. A friend of mine fancied her steak roll to be as simple as possible and requested everything to be on the side, which was easily made possible. The meat is basically cooked in a roll with delicious seasonings teppan style and placed atop a bed of cabbage and julienned potatoes keeping things on the lighter side. They taste wonderfully with sprinkled garlic chips and a pour of ponzu dipping sauce all over. Beverages are available from soda, water, cold green tea and juice. Talk about kanak attack (sleepy itis)! Since a coworker and I went during lunch hour, the wait for our food was lengthy. However, the cash register proceeded fairly quickly and people waited in anticipation in front for their orders to be called. We waited probably about 15 minutes for our orders. I would only suggest they have a number sign just in case people didn't hear their numbers called. Ahi Lovers was also yelling out their order numbers which came fairly in sync with ours. Otherwise, I'm ecstatic that Teppanyaki Farmer is here to stay. Customer service was friendly. Bathroom access is immediately next to Teppanyaki Farmer. Parking is ample since the food court is located next to Macy's on the second floor. They take credit cards! Yay!! read more

The Tepoanyaki Farmer has made me one happy camper. My existence has not been the same since Tae's Teppanyaki closed a few years ago! Life seemed some what imbalanced. But lol and behold the universe is well again that the owner of Tae's has opened this new location at The Lanai at Ala Moana. (A new food court in the old shirokiya 1st level space.) This is no hole in the wall anymore but that's ok the steak and pork roll are back! Yummy as ever! They also have a few new bowls and wraps and sandwiches. They also had a garlic fried rice the first few opening weeks but sadly discontinued. It. The line will make you go .. but the food will make you go .. just don't take it personally cause it's only the affects of the food court magnet. I just had one of the best burritos I've ever had. It was a simple Ribeye Burrito and not was it only tasty but it was a very good portion size and definitely satisfied my hunger. We got the steak roll with garlic rice... do yourself a favor and get the garlic rice. The meat was tender and well cooked and the potato strings gave a nice crunch. Their steak role is amazing i went there 3 times in one week. This coming from a person that primarily eats at home or a home lunch. Steak is seasoned well, the potatoes are a great texture to go with the steak. I do get Sriracha on it, which gives it a great spice. And the dipping ponzu sauce just puts it over the edge in different tastes in Your mouth. I like the addition of the lettuce bed so I feel healthy eating it. And I enjoy the ponzu sauce spilling on the rice. Parking can be a little challenging if ala Moana is busy even with the 20 min parking outside the door. I loved going to Tae's when they had their corner shop, so I was super excited to try this place as soon as I learned they were going to open here. Steaks made to order smothered with garlic, where can you go wrong. Yes the wait is a little long, and yes when you watch them you think you can do a little better at expediting the orders; nonetheless I think it's worth the wait. I remember Tae's used to have $10 steak plates, while those dreams are long gone, they still have the new york or ribeye options. My suggestion is to skip the steak roll all together and go straight for the steak option. I like to get garlic chips with ponzu sauce on the side. Mix some siracha in the ponzu sauce and you have some meaty goodness that will keep away vampires for at least a few days. read more

Yum! This was one of my favorite meals I've had in awhile since the concept is new and fun but keeps those flavors and textures we know and love. My mom and I ordered the steak roll and pork kimchee roll. ($12.95 each) Rolls are served with your choice of white or brown rice, salad, and a shoyu dipping sauce. The meat was delicious, soft and melty in your mouth. Salad was crispy fresh, and well, rice is rice for the most part. I'm mostly gluten free so having a delicious gluten free option at the mall is a god send. (Although the man taking our order didn't quite know what gluten free was... but we managed to figure it out.) I will definitely go back with my husband! It took about 10 minutes for me to order my food - one steak roll plate ($12.95). You could tell that they recently opened because the process wasn't seamless and almost chaotic. It took 30 minutes for my plate to come out. It had one scoop or rice, green salad, and a beef steak roll - looks like 3-4 thin slices of meat filled with potato served over cabbage. Food - 4.5 stars (meat was overcooked) Service - 3 stars Price - 3 stars (a bit pricey imo for what you get) I'll give it another try in a few months after the business works out it kinks. This is my 2nd time trying out Teppanyaki Farmer and I have to say I'm really disappointed with my overall experience tonight. I initially came here when they just opened and I figured they needed to work on some kinks. Today's verdict: they need to work a lot harder if they want to stay in business. Portions/Food Waste: the guy managing the grill is sloppy when setting portions on the potatoes & inconsistent with his cooking. I can clearly see why some tellers were saying the potatoes were half-cooked, crunchy or the lettuce tasted dirty. The potatoes were literally coming out of the steak roll, rather than simply adding the remainder to the plate...he simply pushed to get thrown out. If I was the owner/manager, I would be very concerned about food cost. But it's not my problem. Simple Instructions: I had asked for all rice and no salad. I guess I should've been clearer to say, "two scoops of rice, no salad, keep the bed of lettuce that you place the steak roll on." The gal who plated my order decided to put two scoops of rice, flatten it so that it became a bed of rice to put the steak roll on. ‍‍‍ I'm not sure if it's worth $13 for such small portions, poor quality. It's not the same as Tae's Teppanyaki...he had more flavor. I guess I won't be coming back here again unless things change. I bet that it would've been better with rice but I thought it was a good option for those who are staying away from rice. After attending a seminar for college prep for my youngest, we stopped by Ala Moana shopping center to grab lunch and just catch up. We decided to pick up couple ribeye burritos from Teppanyaki Farmers at the food court. To be honest I wasn't expecting much (from past experience), however, I was very please as well with my daughter. Their burritos are good size and filling! They offered us a choice of brown or white rice, I had the brown while she had the white. They have this tasty hot sauce to drizzle over the burritos, the rib-eyes were just the right size and amount, very tasty and satisfying, and the cheese took it to the next level. I will definitely visit this place in the near future. Need to get there early to get a table, otherwise, we'll be having lunch at the beach. read more

Yes, after all these years, 2 location changes and a name change to Teppanyaki Farmer, owner Tae still rocks the grill! We ordered 2 of the original steak rolls which haven't changed a bit and are still drool worthy. The combination of thin, juicy and tender rib eye wrapped around thin strands of potato is unique and delicious. We love the new addition of garlic rice instead of white! Stopped by to check out the new Lanai food court, and grabbed a wrap from Teppanyaki Farmer. First, the design and atmosphere of the Lanai area are great, excellent place to rest and eat while you're at Ala Moana. The kalbi wrap here was delicious!! They just opened, and are wildly popular, so feeling some new-restaurant pains. BF and I had the steak roll and the pork roll. Potatoes weren't completely cooked, so still too crunchy and raw tasting. While the steak guy in front the of the window was cranking out the food, the pork roll was cooked somewhere in the back and took forever. Four groups with only steak rolls were served first, as I waited and waited and waited. TIP - stick to steak until they iron out the kinks. This place is about 50% more expensive than Tae's, but this is the mall, and I bet their rent is waaay more. Just not sure a steak roll is worth 13 bucks. Not bad not bad. Everything on the menu sounded yummy, but the flavor on some of their plates disappointed. I ordered the steak roll, which I thought sounded amazing and pretty innovative since I've never heard of such a thing. The steak was under seasoned and dry, which was probably the biggest bummer, but the type of potatoes rolled into the steak were pretty interesting (cut long and thin, almost like noodles & still crunchy-ish like onion). My mom got the boneless kalbi bowl, which packed flavor but didn't really taste like kalbi. The meat tasted more like teri beef. Still good but not what she was expecting. Service and timeliness were both good, but I think if I ever go back I'll try something else. read more

We got the steak plate for $17.95 (overpriced imo) and a kalbi bowl for $10.95. The kalbi bowl was generous, and the steak plate was average. I had the latter and it came with greens and a couple scoops of rice (choice white or brown). They were busy, which I take is a good sign and see that it has good reviews, but I wouldn't spend that much again for a steak plate here. It was not worth it. The steak wasn't cooked evenly and some parts were stringy, white and inedible. The dressing bottles were not labeled, so I thought I had poured guacamole dressing on my salad... turned out to be straight up creamy wasabi! Well... you can imagine how that went... sigh... my sinuses were cleared and my eyes cleaned of tears! I had a good laugh... after getting over the pain that is. I am okay trying out some other dish, since it seems like people like the place. Maybe it was just a bad order or a bad day. But, the cashier also didn't seem to know the difference between medium and medium-rare when I placed my order. I think that needs some improvement...
