Despite getting there early for the lunch rush, and not having many people ahead of me, I had at least a 20 minute wait. This was partly because one person had six lunches in one order. Also, they haven't worked out the service kinks yet. This appears to be part poor planning and part insufficient staffing. I felt sorry for the one-and-only person working the grill; he was going as fast as he could. A second person was desperately needed at the large flattop. There's one order/ pay line, probably so as not to overwhelm the grill. Good idea, but isn't working. It's just leading to long lines to order, an overwhelmed grill, and another long wait for food. Then there was the fact that the person in line behind me, who ordered exactly the same thing, got her order before me. And the fact that the person finishing and distributing the orders forgot the dressing on my salad. The iceberg lettuce was also not washed sufficiently, so it tasted a bit dirty. Food: $12.95 for a steak roll plate (price as ofJanuary 2018), which consists of very little protein and a lot of filler (potatoes, iceberg lettuce, rice). The steak is supposed to be wrapped around very, very thinly shredded crispy potatoes. Some of the potato in mine was barely cooked; the rest was raw. I opted for garlic chips on top, but ended up brushing off most of them. They were so overbaked they were not crunchy but rock hard, and the flavor wasn't good. The best thing? The portion was quite large and I guess you get what you pay for but it was very pricey. It was full of shrimp but they were EXTREMELY salty. Thinly sliced short rib + onion cooked with kalbi sauce, served with their garlic fried rice and egg (cooked to your liking). Priced at $10.95. Highly recommend the kalbi bowl with egg. Seasoned well and made to order. Too bad you are not able to substitute their ribeye steak with their bowls. On my second visit, I tried their steak roll plate with wasabi sauce and garlic fried rice. The thinly sliced ribeye steak is rolled with shoestring type potatoes inside. Similar to hash brown potatoes. The plate also comes with toss salad. Priced at $12.95. Notice that they also offer shrimp and pork options for their bowls and roll plates. May need to give these options a try. Also noticed they crossed off their "Breakfast" menu section. Overall, I'd recommend checking them out if you're in the area. I wanted to try this place in the new food court that took shirokiya's old lot. I saw a friend post a picture and it looked really tasty, so I finally went. First of all there was a line of about 5 people ahead and I waited about 5-8 minutes to order. This is a fast food establishment so after ordering the food is relatively quick and I waited about 5 minutes for my food. I couldn't decide between the kalbi bowl/plate or their steak roll: sliced rib eye rolled with potatoes. I was hesitant because I'm not a huge potato fan and I was craving just steak. I asked the cashier, who may have been the owner, she suggested for me to try the steak roll. I asked for medium rare, and apparently they cook it one temperature so I'm happy I asked. When I got my food and tried the potato, it was definitely disappointing. The potatoes were not crispy and sort of soggy, not tasty. The ribeye was thinly sliced and soft, it has enough flavor but the ponzu sauce definitely is needed with it. I asked for garlic chips, which was free, and took their 'spicy sauce' that is actually just sriracha sauce that you self yourself. I thought it would be a special homemade spicy sauce. Overall, I would go back and give the kalbi bowl a try. I wouldn't get the roll because I didn't think the potatoes match and we're cooked strangely. Once again, the Lanai does not disappoint! I visited Teppanyaki Farmer earlier this evening with my boyfriend after reading the rave reviews on Yelp. It is located in the back corner of the new Lanai food court by Macy's (near the restrooms). After looking at the menu for a few moments, we both ordered the steak roll. For $12.95 plus tax, we got a lot better quality plate then anywhere you'd find in Makai Marketplace (the other food court inside Ala Moana). The steak roll itself was flavorful and served with a scoop of rice, small salad, small container of ponzu, and a topping or sauce of your choice (garlic chips/ wasabi sauce/ spicy sauce). I picked garlic chips, while the bf went with their wasabi sauce. Both were very good! The only thing I wish is that they cooked the potato filling a little longer so it didn't taste as raw. I'm not sure how it's supposed to be, but either way it had a nice texture! I can't wait to go back! My gf and I decided to try the new hip place to eat at Ala Moana' s Lanai. We saw this place many times and Teppanyaki Farmer always had a long line, so I it was probably good. The pictures of the rolled steaks looked pretty delicious too. Today I decided to wait in line and try a Teppanyaki rolled steak roll. The line went down quickly as there was one worker taking orders while another was cooking and others prepping. I ended up waiting a long time after I ordered to get my food. I was able to get milk tea from a few shops down and my gf was even able to get desert from Brug bakery. I still waited after all this to get my order... I think they need more than one person cooking on the flat top to help speed up the wait. When I finally got my food. The rolled ribeye steak plate was neatly presented and arranged. It came with one scoop of garlic rice, toss salad, and their rolled steak with slivered potatoes inside on a bed of sliced cabbage. I had then put garlic chips on it and it came with a ponzu like sauce for dipping. The taste was not I was expecting. The rolled steaks was nice and tender. But to me it lacked any taste. Lucky thing there was that dipping sauce to add additional flavor to it. The best part of the was the garlic rice. Overall Teppanyaki Farmer to me was not worth waiting in line for. Are you really Tae's? Tae's had daikon inside didn't they? They use potato on the inside here. Not exactly the same. I mean I could be wrong. But something feels a little off. Just compared to Tae's when it was across the street from Palama Super Market. Their spicy sauce isn't exactly the same either. I remember because at Tae's I asked. Garlic chips or Spicy sauce? She told me to always get garlic because they just use Sriracha for the Spicy. (which was a condiment on the side) Over here the spicy sauce is more like a mixture of something because the color is more orange. But up to you, I know some people no like smell like garlic after a meal because they on a date on what not. Either way, I like Teppanyaki Farmer. One night, I went with a couple of friends. We all got steak rolls here and split a nigiri combo from Ahi and Vegetable next door. Quite a satisfying dinner / post work out meal. Between this, the Udon place, and ahi vegetable... I would choose this first. Why? because Ahi Vegetable has multiple locations... and because the Udon place is just Udon... I like how Teppanyaki Farmer plate feels more balanced with the salad... Originally I had thought it was in the downstairs food court for some reason. We went at an odd time (3:30pm) since I had a long exam in the morning and did not have time to eat lunch so I was starving. We came in and there was no one around, which was perfect considering all the reviews I had read about the long wait time and given that I was already getting pretty hangry ha! I already knew I wanted to try what everyone was posting about, the rolled steak. So I ordered it with garlic rice. I liked it but I don't think that I would have waited 30 minutes for it. I thought the garlic rice was really good, but I did not think the steak roll was something to come running back for. The service was good and our food came out pretty quickly. Teppanyaki Farmer at the Lanai is located at the new mini food court across Macy's STBX. I had the Ribeye Steak and it's a nice size cut for a plate lunch! The steak is served on a bed of cabbage (with a Japanese style steak sauce that was Oishi) a tossed green salad and a delicious garlic rice! All for $14 bucks! It's fully staffed with Japanese workers from Japan so you know they will put a lot of pride into your meal! They give you some topping options. I had the fried garlic. Tasty garlicky flavor crystals! Boom! Then they give you a side salad and some tasty savory garlic fried rice. This place cooks the steak roll right in front of you which is super good for me since I'm kinda of a germaphobe and i like to keep an eye on my food to make sure its clean ahahaha. The wait wasn't bad even with a long line. The steak roll was ok, since there were so much hype around it, I expected it to be more so I was a bit disappointed. I wished it had more flavor to it and it was a bit dry. The potato strips in the middle was also a bit flavorless but it adds a nice crunch. The ponzu sauce really helped with the flavor for me. The size of the garlic roll was a bit disappointing too especially for the price that you pay. The garlic rice was ok. Not the best, could've had more flavor to it. It was also lacking in color, looks like a regular scoop of rice with a few bits of garlic and a drip of soy sauce. The side salad was fresh, just like any other tossed salad on the side. Overall, I still think I would come back to give it another try. Maybe try a different sauce or something. But the price is also keeping me from doing that. I went here for the second time yesterday and ordered the Kalbi Bowl with egg. I chose to have my egg scrambled and asked for white rice. They also put some nice crispy garlic chips on top of the egg. I took it out and ate it at my office. The meat was pretty lean and tender and had a lot of flavor. We love eating here because orders come out fairly quick (not super quick) and if your partner wants to get something else, tHey have option to get something from other stores and still eat together. I had kalbi roll which is their signature dish. I asked if the hot sauce they asked to put it on the meat can be on the side instead of being on the top and she said no which was disappointing.. It's the first restaurant that I tried there and was pleasantly surprised that I liked it more than I thought I would! Their staple plate is the steak roll which is cooked in front of you and comes with salad and a choice of regular or garlic rice. You can choose a topping: garlic chips, wasabi sauce, or a spicy sauce. I had the garlic chips which are amazing and really enhances the steak roll's flavor. There is also a ponzu sauce that is automatically included. I also had the boneless kalbi bowl which had a lot of flavor and also came with the garlic chips. The only downside is that it's not a true boneless kalbi and is more like bulgogi which is thin pieces of beef. It was still really good but just not what I expected. Can't wait to go back.
