The food was delicious. The service was extremely pathetic. After being seated, we waited a long time for a person to approach us. Eventually she did. We ordered the pork belly appetizer, and a Coke, the other 3 of us had water. Eventually, the pork belly was brought out. We had to ask, twice, two different people, to bring us utensils so we could eat our appetizer. It was delicious! After a long period of time,, she wandered back to our table to take our food order. Again, after a long period of time, she brought out 3 of the 4 entrees. Left me hanging for a long period of time. Much food was left behind. I NEVER DID GET THE FRIES THAT CAME WITH MY BURGER. The apology from the "MANAGER" wasn't enough, the world needs to know how disappointed I am with the extremely pathetic service, from everyone, not just the server who occasionally visited our table. My husband and I finally got to plan a date night together and we landed on this spot. If you click on the directions from yelp, it takes you to a suspiciously remote little area so whatever you do, search the restaurant name on Apple Maps or whatever maps you have and it should pull up the correct location. Our server, Mabel (I hope that's how you spell it!), suggested the Seafood Empanadas and they did NOT disappoint! They came with this cilantro, ranch, jalapeño sauce drizzled over the plate with some cojita cheese and each bite left us wanting more. We opted to share an entree to save room for the drinks ;) Jefe Herrera comes with Steak, lobster tail, mashed potatoes and asparagus. My husband fed me the first bite of the steak and it just about melted in my mouth! So tender, so juicy, full of flavor, and the perfect amount of pink in the middle. The lobster tail was good (I've never had lobster tail so I'm not sure if it's normal to be tough to cut but nevertheless, it was delicious). The mashed potatoes were mashing! The asparagus only needed a dash of salt but I still enjoyed every bite. We ordered the house margarita on the rocks and it was just the right amount of lime to tequila. We ordered two rounds of Espolon blanco and asked for extra limes and Mabel brought back a cute plate with multiple limes in a row and added a side of salt on one side and a side of tajin on the other. Went on a Friday night which happened to be Mother's Day for the Latin culture so it was expected to be busy. For starters, there is most definitely not enough parking as people were parking anywhere and everywhere due to lack of parking spaces. The wait time to get a table was about 30 minutes due to the volume of people, which I understand but it took more than 15 minutes for someone to come take our drink order and bring the chips and salsa to the table. Once we finished off the basket of chips and salsa between 4 adults, they brought another round of chips but the salsas went from being in bowls to what a restaurant puts condiments in. We all just kind of looked at each other. When the food arrived, they told us the plates were hot but when I carefully moved mine, it was nowhere near hot so the food then itself was not hot as expected. I had to flag down what appeared to be a manager to get refills on our waters as our server did not return to check our drinks or ask us how the food was, but at least another manager did these things. I get it was a "holiday" for the restaurant and maybe they were not properly staffed but if it is indeed a holiday, then staffing should have been ramped up. Overall, highly disappointed and will not be returning or recommending this establishment. Hopefully their leadership will read this and make the adjustments so others who visit this establishment do not have the same experience that we had. read more

My wife and I tried this restaurant at the recommendation of our hotel hostess next door. It had to be the most disappointing experience for Mexican / Tex Mex we ever had. Strange that our Mexican families in the north central of Ohio would be better than here in Houston. We have eaten this variety of food across the country from California to the east coast, and this is now the bottom of our list. The staff seemed very "mew" about service in general and unattentive. We sat at the bar and the drinks were weak and although my old fashion presentation was nice (it came with a smoke cloud), it was like trying to drink campfire. Smoked flavoring can be nice if done right. The menu did not indicate this and I wouldn't have ordered this if I knew. Makes me wonder what they were trying to mask. The chicken nachos were average but the pickled jalapeños gave an additional flavor depth, but it was just okay. The overall experience after a day of travel was disappointing. read more

Our second visit to this restaurant. As mentioned in my last review, the lights are very bright inside, and my personal preference would be to have a slightly more subtle light level. But enough about lights. A restaurant should be judged by their food and service, and this place rates high on both. On the night we visited this time, there were two large parties; one 25-top, and one 12-top. This, in addition to the restaurant being more than half-full. The staff was in high demand, but they were all hustling like crazy, and keeping up with demand. Ryan, Josh, and Martine tag-teamed our table and made sure that everything was perfect. The kitchen got backed up and our order was delayed in delivery, but these three guys continued to smile and make sure that we were happy. That is a skill that is not learned - - that is a skill that comes automatically when you genuinely care about the guests you are serving. I tip my hat and offer the highest of compliments to Ryan, Josh, and Martine! Now, about the food: It takes a special understanding of time and temperature to perfect bacon-wrapped shrimp. In most establishments that serve that particular dish, one will find either 1) The bacon undercooked, and the shrimp done correctly, -or- 2) The bacon cooked right, but the shrimp overdone and rubbery. Not at Tequila 45. I am guessing that the chef partially cooks the bacon before wrapping it around the shrimp. Anyway, their final product is a brochette that features nicely browned bacon and perfectly cooked shrimp. We will be coming back to enjoy the service from this enthusiastic staff, and the wonderfully prepared food! read more
