Love and loved Tequila Town. This place is the perfect date night spot and the food is spot on and reminds me of the Mexican food you'd get in Chicago and other big cities- this place will not do you dirty on flavor or spices either. We all know what this means :) On this visit we had the quesadillas, ceviche and esquites right before the kitchen closed (we had no clue) and they were all amazing. Even though they were close to closing the same flavors, temperature and quality were maintained in the food as thought they'd just opened. As my dude and I are both foodies, we gobbled it all down in pure delight before they closed (we got y'all) and even debated taking micheladas to go: which they don't do, but wouldn't that be great :P Had a blast and will be back for more date nights. Oh! Of mention, our server said it was his first day serving and he was wonderful. The service here is amazing and two other people (perhaps the owner and manager) came over to ask us how we liked the food. My cheeks were full, so it was always a thumbs up for me. Food is good. They are crazy busy but do a good job. Everyone is friendly. We have been there several times. Table side guacamole did not really impress me. It's always a bold move when a Mexican restaurant takes up the same location as a now-closed former Mexican joint (in this case, the long gone Peppers). Fortunately for Tequila's Town, they're a step up in quality (although that's not a huge bar to clear). And they also have done a much better job with the interior decor. As for the food, I went with the Mole Chicken. Admittedly that's a tough dish to pull off, so I guess I can't hold them too accountable for the mundane entree that I received. But the portions were a pretty good size, so they get points for making sure I didn't leave hungry. They also get points for having Horchata on the menu, which is a cinnamon heavy drink that I cannot recommend enough. Unfortunately our waitress was pretty absent, so I sadly did not get a chance for a refill once I ran out. The often aloof waitress also caused the kids to get restless at the end of the meal, as she disappeared for nearly 15 minutes when we were ready for the check. Overall it wasn't a terrible meal, but it certainly wasn't memorable enough to spring to mind next time I'm craving Mexican food. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I am Mexican and I love tequila. But the food was extremely bland. It wasn't horrible, just tasted like they didn't even do the justice of seasoning the beans with salt. They did have a great skinny jalapeño margarita and we asked for a spicy salsa and it tasted authentic and very spicy (my favorite thing about Mexico is the amazing salsas that come with the food, and that sauce reminded me of it). I can't complain about the service. I'm sure I'll give it another shot, just not sure when. read more

Pretty typical standard Jax Mexican food. I started with the strawberry margarita which was a bit syrupy. I'd get something else next time. We had the chorizo queso dip which was watery but tasty. I had the chimichangas which weren't bad, but a bit bland. My husband had the molcajete (hot) which he really enjoyed. It came in a lava rock bowl and was scalding hot for at least 20 minutes. All in all, not bad. I'd try something else next time but would at least come back once. read more

Small guacamole was ok. The tacos were average. They needed more seasoning. The restaurant has a beautiful aesthetic and would be good for a date or group dinner but the food was unremarkable. I like this place! My husband and I went here for dinner with our son. We enjoyed the experience, service and food. The reason why I had to rate this establishment 3 stars mainly has to do with the taste of the food. It was yummy but it was not very authentic. My husband is Mexican and born and raised in California. He knows how to cook amazing Mexican food. My best friend is Mexican so growing up, I ate authentic Mexican food. The food at Tequilla Town was very Americanized and lacked a little bit of flavor. My husband and I ordered a nacho chorizo cheese dip which was amazing. I enjoyed my tacos. I ordered mix and match Street tacos (Carnitas, El Pastor and Carnitas). My husband ordered the same but he didn't not get a Carnitas taco, instead he got chicken. we didn't like that our tacos had very large pieces of sautéed onion in them and we noticed our tacos didn't have that much meat. Again, the flavor was good and all but not very flavorful like we were expecting. I feel like the food lacked authenticity and flavor a bit. Same goes for our steak quesadilla. My husband said he may come back again to give this place a 2nd chance. I don't know if I will tag along. Our server was nice and fast so that was a major plus. read more

We used to live in Savannah and Tequila Town was always our favorite Mexican spot. So when we moved to Jacksonville, we were so excited that they had a tequila town here. Our new favorite Mexican spot. The Chile relleno is to die for. My husband and I always get one to split as an appetizer. We've always ordered it with shredded chicken, but they have many meat options. The chimichanga is great. I have them add sour cream to the guacamole salad to make it perfect. The first time we went my hubby ordered the Molcajete... it came out in a super cool lava bowl and was boiling hot, and a huge portion. We have friends who live nearby and always have them cater their events. That's how we found out about them. They do an excellent job with catering as well. read more

There are several locations around me when I need to quench my craving for Mexican food but Tequila's Town has become the favorite. The wait is seldom very long and the food and service is very good. I don't think we've visited once without the manager stopping by to check on things. On my last visit I ran out of onions for my fajitas and he came back with a heaping plate. He even offered to take the whole plate back to the kitchen to blend everything together. We've taken several family members to dinner and everyone has enjoyed their meal. Definitely a great place to visit. Haven't taken advantage of the full bar but it looks well stocked. Great, now I want a margarita. read more

House margaritas and all 16oz draft beers $2 What's even better is that the house tequila is Maestro Dobel, which is a very good tequila. The draft selection includes Dos Equis, Modelo, Tecate, and a few different domestic beers. We were doing drinks and appetizers but the queso fundito with chorizo and camarones a la diabla ( spicy shrimp ) were both good. Very clean, new, and inviting atmosphere with excellent service. Tequila's Town is in my top 3 favorite Mexican restaurants and it is my boyfriend's favorite (he was born in Mexico, so I think he has better Mexican food/atmosphere judgment cred than I do) here in Jacksonville. I love the aesthetics here. Very modern with plants all over, plenty of space, and COVID precautions all around. The manager, Danny, is wonderful to us! The staff is always attentive and nice regardless of if we are sitting at the bar or a table. They know my order by the sound of my voice when I call in orders or when they see me. It's awesome. My favorite is the Arroz Texano ($12) and it comes with rice (I get it on the side), fajita goods like shrimp, chicken, steak, peppers, onions, tomatoes. I also get the queso on the side. It's so much food and absolutely delicious! My boyfriend has ordered a bunch of different dishes and has never had anything (we, because I always try his) that wasn't good. 5/5 stars hands down. Was excited to try this restaurant based on the positive reviews. Ordered steak tacos and was disappointed in how tough and overcooked the steak was. Other ingredients were ok though and the portions were quite good. Partner ordered empanadas and she liked them ok. I tried them and did not like the taste of the oil used to cook them. The oil tasted old and had a funny flavor. Another issue was the wine options. There are none. Only a single variety of each wine variety was available and the menu failed to mention the brands/vintage. Partner chose a red and it was quite harsh and obviously of low quality, especially considering the charge $9 a glass. Did not finish it. Will try one more time as it is a convenient location, but will not order any steak items or any wine. Another minus was how close the bench seats are to other diners. You practically sit back to back with other diners and there is no barrier between...not ideal. read more

Good hot salsa, excellent chilaquiles, tasty lamb barbacoa tacos with green salsa, very eclectic and unique menu throughout and LOTS of options (meaning this now has become a mission for repeat visits).
