First time trying teriyaki don, one of the girls working greeted us right away with a smile. She told our order and also proceed to be so kind to me! I wish I got her name, but she's doing great with customer service. As for food, I ordered the slalom plate with came with salmon, rice, a side salad and some sauces. It was good and filled you up. I will say for 2 plates $35 dollars in a little much, which leads me to why I gave 4 stars over 5. but I'd say it's worth paying for a filling meal. The ambiance was great! I ordered from door dash and was surprised at the portion of the chicken teriyaki bowl. It was more than plenty for one. It had rice, salad and veggies. I also ordered the vegetable tempura. Tonight 6/21/22 I placed an order which totaled over $140 including a $17 tip. Once I was seated with my family awaiting our order, an employee came up to our table and explained that they forgot to charge us for the extra side of spicy mayo. The employee the request $1.08 to cover the cost of the item. This was in front of other tables who were onlookers and I could see they were just as perplexed as I. There Was a total of eight people in my party. I explained to the employee that I just paid $140 and it was a bit embarrassing that they requested an additional $1.08. To which it was explained that they would need the payment or there would be no sauce. I asked if they would just include the sauce at no additional cost, considering the amount of money I spent and I was still denied. I then paid the additional $1.08 and requested to speak with a manager. Once the manager arrived she further explained they forgot to charge at the resister and still denied including the spicy mayo at no additional charge. She further explained that they do have other additional sauces other than may for purchase. Additionally, she explained there is a program where you can purchase your own container from the store and get sauce to take home at a discount. At that point I only felt ridiculed by the manager for my very reasonable request for the additional single sauce to just be included. I Also wish to say I never made a scene, nor did I lose my temper in any way with the restaurant employees, as it's very petty to argue over $1.08, but I felt very embarrassed when I was approached for the additional $1.08 for a sauce. I can cannot believe the audacity of management to send an employee to request such a small payment in light of the total I spent. Further, I gave a $17 tip upfront when ordering because, I want to show I appreciate people who prepare my food. A very decent tip in my opinion, at a restaurant setting where tipping is not very typical. Since you order at the front at the window, then take your number and seat yourself. Terrible. I keep giving them chances because food used to be good but it's inedible now. The rice was nowhere near cooked all the way making the ENTIRE dish impossible to eat. I had pretty good expectations for this place but I felt kind of left down :( I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich but it wasn't spicy! Nothing too special about the sandwich but the chicken was fried very nicely. My boyfriend ordered the daily special (ginger chicken) and we were kind of overwhelmed by the intense ginger smell. So so excited that Teriyaki Don is now open! Their Fresno location is so popular and well received so it makes sense that they would choose another spot near another university! Their prices are super reasonable! I love the simplified menu. The buzzer system (like Panera) is very easy when getting your food to go. I had the spicy California roll, teriyaki chicken bowl combo, and the pot stickers. Tip! Always add the $2 combo so you get the drink and potstickers. They're SO good! Please keep in mind that this business is NEW and will be here a long time so please Merced show some grace as they get in the groove!! Visited this place a few times; glad that a new restaurant opened up and speed of service is quite fast but that is probably a reason why their food seems to be off every time I went. My first time I was there I was like cool it's a new place they probably are trying to get used to the business flow no biggie my coworker and I enjoyed it. The next few times we went there-there was just always something not right about the quality of food. It's either the food was barely warm or when it came out the protein was soggy. And they only had one soda machine so when it's busy there was a line. I'm thinking on depending on when you go they probably had the food fried and put under a heat source because how can my piece of fried chicken out so quickly?? And yes my chicken batter was soggy...salad dressing was good but they put so little the salad was dry throughout. After a few times when my coworkers suggested I opt to pass...but I do recommend trying this place out their flavors are good. read more

This is not real DONBURI at all. The bowl only comes with rice and your choice of meat (super dry). The teriyaki beef was meant to have your own teriyaki sauce after you get the food. The menu stated "Teriyaki donburi" so I expected to have teriyaki sauce over my beef. They've improved from the start of Covid; there portions became skimpy and chicken was dry. I prefer the original location in Fresno. They're more consistent in quality of food. Was a little disappointed, I thought they were a type of noodle house (does not affect review) anyways. Overall I gave 3.5 but went for the 4 star review. Flavors were...good but a little basic for anyone who's used to cooking at home. the rice portion is most of your food Little things that I'm sure will improve over time such as sushi being better rolled (clearly not a sushi chef back there) and hopefully tails will be removed from shrimp as it being mixed in the food is a little annoying. Newly opened in the Promenade, Teriyaki Don proves to be one of the better restaurants in this plaza. I ordered the Spicy Chicken/Steak/Shrimp Don Combo. The flavors of the teriyaki sauce was amazing, as well as the chicken shrimp, steak and gyoza. Everything was seasoned beautifully but my only major concern is the lack of attention on their food. I'm not a gyoza god or anything but to my understanding, only the bottom should be pan fried so that the fillings does not lose juice inside. The shrimp and chicken was really off to me, both had no crispiness whatsoever. I mean, it could even be chef mike (aka microwave) cooking up the "tempura shrimp" in the back. The spring salad might as well be salad with water because theres nothing else to it, its just textured water. The first reviewer that gave this place a 5-star obviously have yet to tried their food because this is by all means a far cry from it. 3/5. read more

Alright so. This is a decent addition to the area and I hope they iron out a couple more things. First, service is friendly. Also the place is clean. Had a spicy chicken rice bowl. Chicken had a good crunch and the chicken was good quality. Winning. Partner had a shrimp and tempura bowl. Concensus was that tempura was same quality as sushi cuisine in Merced... But it costs less. Soooo the one bad thing was the udon. The broth was absolutely so salty it was inedible. And I like salt. This was above and beyond salty. I'm thinking this was a mistake? The chicken itself in the bowl was good and there was plenty of seaweed. I'd go back if I was in the right mood specifically for the rice bowls. The price is right and the food is decent. This place has excellent food and great atmosphere. However, the only reason why they didn't get a 5 star is because I forgot to use my Groupon deal till the very last second once my card swiped to pay and they wouldn't let me use it. The price for the food is very cheap! You get what you pay for. The food was not good, we tried several rice plates and sushi and they where not good. They did not taste fresh even the wasabi and ginger tasted odd. Here in Merced there are way... better sushi places to enjoy a delish Teryki meal. read more
