We'll start with breakfast. It was nice and quiet and very cozy, which is something that is much appreciated. Breakfast was very good. We had an omelette and a burrito for breakfast. Valentines dinner was a little chaotic. Our reservations were late. There was very loud music and they sat us right next to the music. We asked to move because we couldn't hear each other. The scallops were a little bit burnt and didn't taste as well as they did the last time we came here. The ribeye was mistaken for a prime rib and had to be sent back. So consequently, we did not have dinner together. Husband finally got his food 20 minutes after my food was served . The drinks were good. Due to the entire restaurant being packed, I think this is why the mixup happened. In the end the manager and waiter made everything right. From cold soup to overly salty scallops, this was a meal I don't wish to repeat. Drinks that were poured were also mixed (sparkling but topped off with tap, wine mix up). Mocktails were great though. We were hoping for brunch but evidently they don't do it anymore... so we opted for the tacos, one of nine other things on the strikingly abbreviated menu. While everything was fresh and the meats were tender... our entrees, bread, and sides were almost tasteless. We were hoping for a close place to get away for Sunday brunches that understands northern New Mexico cuisine but also would play with it and offer traditional American fare... but outside of the atmosphere, the lack of flavor at that price misses the mark for what would call us back... outside of sunset drinks. We're back once again and loved it just as much as the last time ! There's nothing like enjoying some coffee, soft music, and a stunning view. The weather is absolutely perfect right now so I definitely recommend sitting on the patio. They do have a seasonal menu and this time the options weren't my favorite but still really good. I just came from the hike behind the restaurant and was starving, so the vreakfast burrito really hit the spot. Once again, great experience. I am basically obsessed with Terra Restaurant at the Four Seasons in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We had the absolute best dining experience thanks to our amazing server, Larry, and whomever was in the kitchen cooking up some divine meals. Our experience even got better and better as the meal went on thanks to the gorgeous sunset that we had the perfect view of thanks to our patio table! To start, I ordered the painkiller drink while my dining companion has a lemon drop martini. We ordered the shrimp gambas (garlic and guajillo herb butter served with garlic butter bread) and a ravioli appetizer to start. Both fantastically flavorful although I preferred the ravioli. My friend ordered the Sunday special - fried chicken, served with green Chile mashed potatoes, sweet & spicy glaze, green beans, and a homemade biscuit while I got the beef tenderloin (6oz. beef tenderloin, chipotle Hollandaise, grilled asparagus/broccolini, mashed potatoes, and rosemary jus). We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the portion sizes were great. I was able to try some of the fried chicken, it was so juicy and flavorful! We shared the boozy churros for dessert with some marques de Murrieta wine. I truly had a wonderful dining experience at Terra Restaurant. The food was really, really good, the atmosphere was excellent, and Larry was out of this world. Truly a fantastic service. We returned to Terra for breakfast the following morning. I ordered a latte while my friend got some of the freshly squeezed orange juice and a latte. I got the breakfast burrito (sunrise burrito; pinto beans, red Chile sauce, scrambled eggs, potato medley, cheddar, pico de gallo, and spicy avocado cream) while my dining companion ordered the American breakfast with a side of bacon. Our server, Estrella, had nothing on Larry but was fine. And to that end, we experienced one of the most beautiful sunsets imaginable here. Dare I say it, straight from a Georgia O'Keeffe painting- no lie. Ate here several times while we stayed at the resort, mostly just snacks and drinks. They have a few good draft beers and the mixed drinks are exceptional (old fashion was spot on). We had the Spanish cheese and olives one night and some fries another night (most times we ate in town). The cheese plate was great but would have appreciated a little bread or crackers with them. The fries were awesome, plenty of food for two to snack on. The only downside to the place is price. Leaves a mark. read more

We go here often for sunset drinks. It IS a bit pricey, but the sunsets up there are GORGEOUS and we can take our dog. And, if it's cool outside, they will build a fire & give you makings for s'mores! :) When we do splurge on some nibbles, we love the sliders & the ahi tuna wraps & trout popcorn & truffle fries!! There is also a nice hiking trail that starts behind the lodge & we walk to some red chairs & back -- then have drinks or ice tea at Terra Bar on the patio. A LOVELY afternoon! read more

I visited Terra today for Christmas dinner with my in-laws who regularly dine here and spoke highly of it. While 2-stars may seem harsh, it absolutely "could've been better" which is well below what I expect for a $100+ per person price fixed holiday menu. Here is a breakdown of the evening with highlights and lowlights emphasized. Arriving was a good experience, with the grounds well maintained and clear signage for where to get valet. All of the outdoor staff was extremely polished & professional - holding doors for everyone and setting a great initial mood to the evening. Checking in with the host stand was easy and we were seated quickly. So far, this would have been a 4-5 star review based on the entrance experience. Although we were roughly 20 minutes early for our reservation, we were seated quickly which is a common mistake I'm seeing hosts around Santa Fe make. The problem this caused is that our waiter was forced to start 3 tables at the exact same time. The result is that we had several gaps in service throughout the meal that could have been avoided with proper table/server management at the host stand. This cost the restaurant roughly a half-star by itself because it was felt throughout the meal. For a price-fixed menu, one of the shocking discoveries was that the 5 entrees had no vegetarian options. Thankfully, one of the managers stepped in and spoke with the chef to offer my father-in-law two options off the regular menu which he was perfectly happy with. This did cause quite a slowdown in our meal when paired with the pervious triple-table issue, so the manager took our order and tried to get things back on track. Among the first course options was a caviar & roe dish, which was my first time trying caviar. I've enjoyed roe many times with sushi so everyone was excited and explained to me how caviar is supposed to be served, with all of the accoutrements separate. Instead, what arrived were 2 pre-made mounds of crème fresh with a light sprinkling of roe & caviar on top. It just so happens that I -hate- anything creamy so while I tried one to be a good sport, it was awful because all I could taste in my mouth was the cream. My wife ate the other and she agreed the caviar was barely a garnish to a dish consisting primarily of crème fresh. Everyone agreed they had never been served caviar without the ability to decide how you want to mix it with the other ingredients. Big star loss here, but I'm still excited to try caviar somewhere else that serves it properly! Next were the entrees, with my father-in-law enjoying his regular menu vegetarian option while the other 3 of us all ordered a Wagyu strip steak with brandy peppercorn sauce, mashed potatoes, and broccolini. Unfortunately, that is not what arrived for any of us! What arrived was the steak covered in a creamy white sauce (remember my earlier comment about hating cream?) with mashed potatoes and roasted root vegetables. Once again, I tried to be a good sport and tried this white creamy sauce and asked the two ladies at my table if they could taste any brandy or peppercorn in it: nope. We were able to flag down our waiter who took my plate away only to have the manager bring back a big plate of broccolini and a saucer of the same bland, white, creamy sauce which she declared as the brandy peppercorn. At this point, they were clearly doing everything possible to salvage the meal so I tried to politely ask "this white, cream sauce which has no flavor of brandy or peppercorns in it is that sauce?" to which she emphatically stated it was. Not wanting to take the ultimate step of asking her to try it herself, I relented and asked her to please have the sauce removed from my plate since it's not what I wanted (or ordered, but that battle was clearly lost). To top it off, the steak wasn't very good - one of the worst wagyu's I've had with my wife commenting on how tough hers was to chew. Enormous star loss on the main course. Finally we watched our desserts come out - we had all ordered the same cranberry sorbet & champagne float. This was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful! Sadly, not enough to save what was at this point a bit of a disaster meal for me personally. Thankfully, everyone else had enjoyed their dishes despite the inconsistencies with the menu description. Once again on the way out, everyone was outstanding which showed me that under normal conditions this probably would have been a good meal. Throughout the evening, I watched a series of delicious-looking dishes make their way past the dining room and out to the bar such as burgers and onion rings. As an outsider looking in, it seems like what really ruined the evening was the attempt at a price-fixed menu where we paid $100+ for 2 dollops of cream as an appetizer, tough steak without the correct sauce or side, and a good dessert. I'm still in shock about the white, bland, creamy "brandy peppercorn" which basically ruined the meal. read more

So yes I feel very qualified to rate the restaurant at the four seasons. Well the food is good. Portions are actually pretty big. And they better be good for the price you pay. Some drinks are better than others. I didn't love the frose drink with rose vodka. But anything on the wine list is delectable. The steaks here are terrific. They know how to cook meat. The only problem? The service is sooo sloooooow. Oh my goodness. No matter what time of day..it just seemed like the servers and the kitchen had no sense of time. Everyone was friendly. 3 of us dined at Terra last night, for a special birthday celebration. Terra is a beautiful place, and we were excited about the experience. Our server was terrific, but the meal was so disappointing. The shrimp starter came in a very small bowl, that made it impossible to eat, unless you used the saucer to eat off of, so you could cut the shrimp. The barramundi came almost submerged in a tomato sauce, (definitely not a broth as described) that did absolutely nothing for this fine fish. It also looked awful. You couldn't see any of the described nopales or bicolor potatoes, as everything was in the tomato sauce. The lamb shank was dried out, undercooked, and tasteless. My dining companion took it home, so she could cook it with seasonings until it was done. At least that dish came with some carrots and some polenta. The scallops (5) were small, overcooked and terribly salty. They came with some also overly salty cauliflower crumbs (the menu states tri color cauliflower, so, silly me thought there would be a vegetable on this $52 plate). 3 dots of red pepper Romesco must have been the sauce. The sorbet scoops came in small metal bowls, unadorned, very sad looking. There was no attention to the presentation. Perhaps all the attention to the food was directed at the wedding reception, happening at the same time as our meal. A truly disappointing, sadly presented and very expensive meal. This was a Saturday night, not a Tuesday when you may expect some hiccups. read more

I had the paella and even though I loved it... I had a bite of his lamb and was immediately in love. It was so good I just had to go again.... So we did, the next night, and guess what... perfect! We had the octopus, green chili chowder (perfect starter on a cold night), lamb and the special of the day...Branzino.. Fabulous! We finished it off with the dulce de Leche cake.. yum. I say local for us because we live nearby. Faith and the rest of the Terra staff are super friendly and attentive to any needs. If you have not yet been, go for the Terra burger during sunset. 4.5 stars. Had brunch here yesterday morning (Sunday). We came early so we had the a la carte menu items; however, if you can make it for the famous 11-2pm brunch buffet, I hear it's great. Pros: - quite empty when we came at 10am. No resys but super easy to get a table. - excellent service; our server was especially quite attentive. The chef also came out to talk to us and gave us a few tips about the resort. - quite convenient if you are staying at the resort. We only had to walk about 3 minutes coming from our room. - really reasonable. I was actually surprised at the prices of both the restaurant and in-room dining at this specific Four Seasons resort. - the espresso-based drinks are quite good. We've had good service, but never consistently and the servers always seem on edge and frantic. The ONLY decent thing I've had from the menu is the burger, but the fries were cold and not very good. Not worth the price. My partner ordered the Caesar salad with steak on the side....it was paaaaathetic...for $25! The lettuce took up about 1/4 of the plate (meaning you don't get much at all) and the steak wasn't very good quality. We've ordered WAY better salads at lunch spots in Santa Fe for half the price and they come STACKED. Super disappointing and not anywhere near the quality you'd expect from Four Seasons. The food was genuinely amazing! I did not stay at the resort, so I cannot speak for that, but the quantity and quality of the food we received far exceeded the price we paid. The total we spent was 60 USD and my friend and I returned home with a full stomach and leftovers! That's right, we had leftovers which still tasted amazing after a day!!! If you guys have the chance to eat here whilst in Santa Fe, this is the definition of 5 Star Fast. Customer Service was also incredible. We were completely taken care of and we're allowed to choose seating to our comfort. The outside view was spectacular. 10/10 would Recommend. read more

Incredibly average!!! We went for Thanksgiving hoping for a special meal- nope! Seated 45 minutes late - the servings were clearly Pre-done and rushed out. Our waiter was panting as he served us apologizing for the poor service and poor food. The meal was $400 for two people. The $136 bottle of wine was the best part. The chef came by at the end asking how the meal was - I told him it was a 2 out of 10 and he walked to the next table. Crazy! Btw - we sat in the same place we ate breakfast - it's cafeteria style at best. I just had better short ribs on United Airlines. Sad! read more

The restaurant at the new Encantado Resort just north of Santa Fe, NM is called Terra. The chef is Charles Dale, late of Aspen and New York. So one would have high expectations for the restaurant at a very fancy new resort. (Expectations ran even higher when we discovered the sommelier is Paul who I had met at Geronimo; He was the sommelier who, when he told me that Geronimo had run out of my then-favorite wine, Merry Edwards, introduced me to my now-favorite Pinot Noir, Domaine Serene! Full disclosure: Paul gave us each a glass of a really good champagne, which only made it more difficult to remember what we ate.) We moderated our expectations because the restaurant (and the resort) is still in its soft opening stage and had only started taking guests on August 7. The restaurant exceeded those modest expectations: It's still a hotel restaurant but a really good one with an interesting and creative menu and a great, mostly safe wine list. It's expensive, but you would expect that in an Auberge resort. We started with an aggressively named "Perfect Margarita", which had a splash of bourbon and was fairly perfect, and a Beauregard, a rum drink that wasn't so successful. With the meal, we got a 2006 Turley Old Vines Zinfandel. Along with that, we had these dishes: Amuse bouche of Peruvian chips with truffled cauliflower dip & chives: the truffled dip was outstanding and the purple chips as the dipping device was brilliant. Heirloom tomato salad: They say they pull their own mozzarella every day and it was delicious, but the tomatoes were sliced so thin that they couldn't stand up to the cheese. Duck tamale: It was hard to taste the duck against both the tamale and the foie gras, but it almost didn't matter since the seared foie gras mentioned in passing on the menu was a whole liver and delicious. Lamb two ways: according to the menu, the two ways were a date-baked rack & a "rogan josh" style braised shoulder. The should was well spiced and well cooked. The rack was great. Veal sous vide: I can't describe the preparation because this was the substitute for the promised veal on the menu, but it was prepared sous vide (not illegal in Santa Fe - yet) and the champagne messed with my memory of what Alex, our waiter and a very good one, described. And the only reason I got the veal was because they ran out of the New York strip that was supposed to be the meat part of the Steak Frites I had planned to order. So I felt compelled to order the truffled pommes frites (french fries) as a side dish -- nearly good enough to justify the drive out to the restaurant just for the fries! We couldn't even think about desert, but one of the best features of the restaurant is the portale (what New Mexicans call a porch). Most people stayed inside because the sun sets over the Jemez Mountains directly opposite (about 30 miles away) the portale and blinds you as it is getting low in the sky. But we ended up watching a spectacular sunset; then a killer cloudscape as the monsoon rolled by in front of us (but 30 miles away); and then the lights of Los Alamos while we took in a lightning show in the Jemez Mountains. Pretty spectacular setting for a good meal! Last note: The bar did not have Partida Elegante and the bartender was clearly weak in his knowledge of tequila, a definite miss in a New Mexico resort. I had a shot of Patron Platinum for $12 but the bar needs to work on its service and selection before you want to think about using it as a destination (although its portale is the equal of the restaurant's in its view). read more

Had dinner here last night as part of New Mexico's Restaurant Week (3 course meal for $40 -- Sweet!). As much as I enjoyed The Inn of the Anasazi the night before, I enjoyed this even more! The atmosphere here was more contemporary, but still very much Southwest elegant. The dining area has an all glass wall to the west making for fantastic sunset views. That is also the side of outdoor seating. Although, it was a little cold for that last night. The east side of the restaurant is also glass, but faces an interior courtyard with a fountain and long fireplace. There is also a stone fireplace at the north end of the dining room and the bar is to the south. Outside the bar is yet another fireplace, but this one is circular (see photo) with comfortable upholstered seating and candles all around. Dinner began with a visit from the sommelier who brought a complementary glass of champagne and very helpful discourse on the wine list. Bread and plenty of cold butter arrived (see photos). I really like good bread and was not disappointed here! There were several shards of a dark cracker. I'm guessing it was made with graham flour (there was a pleasant sweetness to it) and some herbs (sage?) as well. A very rich biscuit had some chili (jalapeno?) baked in, and then there was a ciabatta roll. Great start, I was thinking, when along comes the waitress with an amuse-bouche (see photo). A little avocado bite with BIG flavor. By the time the appetizer arrived, my wine had also arrived. As for the appetizer, I liked it: five butternut squash ravioli in a sage-poblano broth, some Parmesan shavings and topped with a Parmesan foam (foam seems to be the "in" thing these days). I've included a picture of this dish. The broth was slightly bitter and contrasted well with the sweet ravioli. The flavor of the foam was pretty subtle. But then it would be. It's foam. The entree was four slices of medium rare tri tip Kobe beef on a bed of pasta in a rich mushroom cream sauce with two perfectly cooked asparagus spears all surrounded by a pool of whiskey sauce (see picture). Awesome! It was how the cow herself would have wanted to be prepared had she only known how delicious she could have been subsequent to her own demise (to paraphrase Garrison Keillor). The beef was soooo tender, and perfectly cooked. The fresh asparagus was firm but not woody. The sauce was a little sweet and a lot complex. And the Cabernet that was recommended was great with this dish. No photo of the dessert, I'm afraid. It all happened so fast, there was no time! I ordered the Melting Chocolate Dome. It started with this perfect sphere of chocolate mousse with a strawberry ice cream center in a bowl filled with sliced strawberries. The chocolate was dusted in gold. Then the waitress brought out a pot of hot chocolate Grand Marnier sauce and poured in over the sphere as it melted over the strawberries. It was AWESOME, visually and in taste. C'mon, chocolate, strawberries, ice cream, and Grand Marnier. How could you go wrong? A fantastic meal, but Chef Dale couldn't leave it at that. With the check they brought out a small box of chocolates for my drive back to Albuquerque. Nice touch! read more
