Had dinner here last night as part of New Mexico's Restaurant Week (3 course meal for $40 -- Sweet!). As much as I enjoyed The Inn of the Anasazi the night before, I enjoyed this even more! The atmosphere here was more contemporary, but still very much Southwest elegant. The dining area has an all glass wall to the west making for fantastic sunset views. That is also the side of outdoor seating. Although, it was a little cold for that last night. The east side of the restaurant is also glass, but faces an interior courtyard with a fountain and long fireplace. There is also a stone fireplace at the north end of the dining room and the bar is to the south. Outside the bar is yet another fireplace, but this one is circular (see photo) with comfortable upholstered seating and candles all around. Dinner began with a visit from the sommelier who brought a complementary glass of champagne and very helpful discourse on the wine list. Bread and plenty of cold butter arrived (see photos). I really like good bread and was not disappointed here! There were several shards of a dark cracker. I'm guessing it was made with graham flour (there was a pleasant sweetness to it) and some herbs (sage?) as well. A very rich biscuit had some chili (jalapeno?) baked in, and then there was a ciabatta roll. Great start, I was thinking, when along comes the waitress with an amuse-bouche (see photo). A little avocado bite with BIG flavor. By the time the appetizer arrived, my wine had also arrived. As for the appetizer, I liked it: five butternut squash ravioli in a sage-poblano broth, some Parmesan shavings and topped with a Parmesan foam (foam seems to be the "in" thing these days). I've included a picture of this dish. The broth was slightly bitter and contrasted well with the sweet ravioli. The flavor of the foam was pretty subtle. But then it would be. It's foam. The entree was four slices of medium rare tri tip Kobe beef on a bed of pasta in a rich mushroom cream sauce with two perfectly cooked asparagus spears all surrounded by a pool of whiskey sauce (see picture). Awesome! It was how the cow herself would have wanted to be prepared had she only known how delicious she could have been subsequent to her own demise (to paraphrase Garrison Keillor). The beef was soooo tender, and perfectly cooked. The fresh asparagus was firm but not woody. The sauce was a little sweet and a lot complex. And the Cabernet that was recommended was great with this dish. No photo of the dessert, I'm afraid. It all happened so fast, there was no time! I ordered the Melting Chocolate Dome. It started with this perfect sphere of chocolate mousse with a strawberry ice cream center in a bowl filled with sliced strawberries. The chocolate was dusted in gold. Then the waitress brought out a pot of hot chocolate Grand Marnier sauce and poured in over the sphere as it melted over the strawberries. It was AWESOME, visually and in taste. C'mon, chocolate, strawberries, ice cream, and Grand Marnier. How could you go wrong? A fantastic meal, but Chef Dale couldn't leave it at that. With the check they brought out a small box of chocolates for my drive back to Albuquerque. Nice touch! read more

Great spot for that Santa Fe sunset. Great service. Good food. We were hungry for late lunch early dinner. When we were told that the hamburgers was offered on the bar menu, that's when we decided to stay. It was a fabulous burger. The bacon was a little too much, sugar red/maple glazed. The bonus was sitting at a table and experiencing the fabulous Santa Fe sunset. We did stroll around the property and was found it all superb. Loved that there was a grand Christmas tree still up in a courtyard. Looking forward to being back in Santa Fe this year. read more

While this restaurant (and the hotel) are sort of out in the boonies, it's actually a great getaway for a vacation, accompanied by an authentic sunset so vivid, you'd swear it was painted by Van Gogh, or to stay true to the locale, Georgia O'Keefe. The food and drinks were decent. I remember ordering a poblano chile crab cake appetizer, and the simply grilled beef tenderloin main dish, medium rare. Liked both, but the appetizer was the more flavorful one. Primarily, I was there visiting my mom, and her enjoyment of the evening was what mattered to me above all else. While I thought we were initially just coming for dinner for maybe an hour or so, my date and I conversationally helped my mom revel in her time so much, the hours flew by. Probably were there for closer to 4! But yea, the food itself is not the sole reason to visit; it is the social experience of getting away from the norm. read more

First off, the ambience and decors of the restaurant were great. Next our server, Bobbi was the best, She did everything to make sure we are satisfied with the food. We weren't expecting the food to be that awesome. The appetizer came in,Tortilla soup and Encanto Shrimp tacos for my husband, it was so good. Terra is underrated as a restaurant because it really is a cut above the rest when it comes to views, ambience, setting, quality of food and level of service. It's a gorgeous place set in the hills of Tesuque and your views of the sunset against the mountains is unmatched! The food is undeniably good and the service is always fantastic. It's quiet and relaxing and cozy and elegant without being pretentious. We've never been disappointed for breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

Walked into an empty establishment at 4:30. Was immediately greeted by one of the native staff members that told us we absolutely could not get in without a reservation. Mind you it was empty and co tinted to be empty 1.5 hours after we were seated in an empty patio without a view. We've eaten here probably 5 times over the last couple years and we've only had one good dinner. This last time we last visited in August 2021. We were headed to the Opera so we figured we'd try it one more time. At first, they brought us a limited bar menu, which for 20 minutes left us wondering if Terra was shutting down? I had to ask for their wine list. For starters, we ordered the cheese plate and opted out the meat. Funny thing is, the cheapest thing on the plate is the bread, and yet you only get enough for a couple bites. No care was taken for the appetizer as everything was thrown together and not "platted" with much thought. As for the dinner, they really need to bring in a chef that is capable of bringing in the exceptional Santa Fe dining that we all expect. My wife ordered the sword fish and I ordered the Relleno. My wife's sword fish ($41) was to salty to eat, which left her eating only the lentil pilaf that came with it. My Relleno ($32) was a stuffed pepper. It was small and somewhat tasty, but for the price, I was left empty as well. After the bottle of wine, the mentioned food and tip, we spent $270. I think we'll wait to come back. As a side note, the bar really does have a spectacular view of the Los Alamos mountains and if you can catch it at sunset, it's picturesque! The last time we had cocktails there, they were pricey but good. We spent $90 without gratuity for 2 drinks each, for hand crafted cocktails. read more

I came here for Lunch/Dinner. The resort itself is beautiful and Terra is definitely a gem within it. The service was obviously exceptional, the location was divine. The food was good for the price. I had ordered the Cauliflower soup, Jerk Roasted Airline Chicken with Creme Brulee dessert. The items were good but not exceptional which I thought they would be. Its a good restaurant within the hotel but outside of that, not really anything special. A little more flavoring on the chicken and a little more detail in the soup could go a long way. Lunch there was four stars. The service was great but the food was very mediocre. It really felt like the menu was chosen specifically to be quick and easy for the cooks. Lunch out on the patio was beautiful, couldn't ask for a better view. Dinner was fantastic however. Service was on par with Michelin started restaurants in my opinion. Food was excellent, maybe not to that level but still hard to find anything to criticize. I had the prime rib and it was awesome. My wife had the filet and said she enjoyed it as well. read more

Terra is an elegant and beautiful restaurant with delicious food and a wonderful staff. Dinner: Most of what we ordered was fabulous! I had the prix fixed "Opera Menu: Alceste" which was 3 courses for $48 (very good deal). The 3 courses were: grilled octopus salad, braised lamb, and pistachio baklava. Husband ordered the lobster risotto and the "3 Little Pigs." His dinner selections were much better than mine. If I could have a do-over (or the next time I'm at Terra), I would have chosen the soup and the swordfish on the prix fix menu. Dinner highlights: 1) the 3 Little Pigs entree is just brilliant: grilled tenderloin in adobo, crispy belly over edamame purée,and pork cheek casuela with pumpkin seed mole. 2) Truffled pommes frites, if your entree doesn't come with it, order as a side. 3) Pistachio baklava (which they graciously boxed up and delivered to our room so they we could enjoy it in bed with our pajamas!). A couple of minor disappointments: -the lobster risotto was a tad too soupy for my taste. -the grilled octopus salad: the octopus was overcooked and a bit tough and dry. It did have a nice grilled flavor, but probably could have used a bit more olive oil on it when grilling. -The braised lamb with orzo was slightly under-seasoned for my palate. Although on the plus side, they were very generous with the portions of lamb, and the lamb was cooked to falling-off-the-bone tender perfection. The service was excellent and impeccable. Paul, the sommelier ( I presume?), was a delight to meet and was so knowledgeable, as was the rest of the dining room staff. Bar/Lunch: Must try the Smoked Trout Nachos with the chipotle caviar and the Lamb Quesadilla. Breakfast: the Chilaquiles (scrambled eggs, corn tortillas, roasted tomatoes and grilled scallion with red chili sauce) are amazing. So are their omelet du jour and their house-made green chile sausage! Of course, Terra is a stellar dining establishment that comes with all the things you would expect with fine dining restaurants: gourmet artisan breads, extensive wine list, innovative amuse bouches, etc. read more

I had an opportunity to visit Terra for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during our week-long stay at Four Seasons. First and foremost, I need to mention their impeccable service. They have remembered what we have ordered exactly just by the day 2! And, they let us customize our menu (please don't be shy about asking for what is not on the menu) with no difficulty. The wait staffs were very friendly and it was such a pleasure meeting them. We also had a chance to chat with the Executive Chef, Kai, who came to say hello to our table. The food was very good, too. I already miss the blue corn blueberry breakfast pancake and the farro and veggie dish for dinner! The pancake is filled with ripe blueberries (not one of those sour ones) and the farro dish is very flavorful. It could be one of the best vegetarian dishes that I have tried! Their ingredients are local and fresh and they are flavored just perfectly. The only downside is that the menu is slightly limited (which is better than having an extensive menu which is not well executed) so you may feel like running out of options by day 3. Their lunch menu tends to be on a limited side, especially, so I suggest hopping on a hotel shuttle to go to downtown to try out different things. Other than that, it was just perfect. read more

Had lunch here for the first and last time yesterday! First off it Terra restaurant is beautiful. It was a rainy cold day and the place was just as cold inside as out. I had to ask two people to turn on the heat. Despite the fireplace it didn,t get much warmer. I left my hat on! The lunch menu was a great disappointment! VERY LIMITED! We went to Terra as our grand finale for the weekend getaway to SF and it was wonderful. I got the short rib and my wife got the duck breast, both were outstanding. Even the bread before the meal is to die for. We also got the house made churro desert and it was the best churro I've ever had (grew up in southern cal). The only reason for 4 stars out of 5 is the service. We are younger (mid-late 20s) and weren't dressed in suits, so naturally the staff treated us as unimportant. We even called ahead to make sure we weren't under-dressed and they said it was "casual" and jeans were perfectly fine. We asked for more bread (they never brought more) and never refilled our water glasses. The kicker was that an older retired couple sitting at the table next to us was receiving wonderful service (of course!). Pretty disappointing, especially when we almost always tip over 20%. Also, although this place is in "Santa Fe" it is way out in the middle of nowhere. We were staying at a hotel downtown and drove 25 minutes each way to get there and back. The benefit to the location is if you get a seat next to a window you'll get a beautiful sunset view at dinner. All in all, drinking water, getting 2 entrees and a dessert we walked out dropping $100 including tip. I would highly recommend the food, and wear at least khakis and a dress shirt if you want to be treated well! read more

While the resort itself is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL, we had an unfortunately sub-par dining experience here for dinner on our first evening. The biggest issue was the service. Our waiter was forgetful and inattentive - we barely saw him for the majority of the meal. When it finally came time for dessert, he was nowhere to be found...and when he finally asked if we had "saved room," it took at least another 15 minutes to get dessert menus! I think he may have had too many tables, but it was incredibly painful for us. Food: first courses were so-so. The cucumber-avo soup was good, but not terribly imaginative. The tuna tartar didn't taste fresh (it was a Sunday night...?) and could have been more creative as well. I enjoyed salmon for my main dish, which was quite nice. We also sampled the scallops, which didn't have their typical sweet and tender personality...very fishy tasting. Lastly, the desserts - the chocolate flourless cake seemed as though it was pulled directly from the freezer! The highlight was the s'mores, available to roast by the firepit. However, we had to learn about this from another table - our waiter didn't tell us, not surprising! We had lovely lunches and breakfasts with great service for the remainder of the trip, which is why I'm giving Terra 3 stars instead of 2. We had....Chips and Dips piled high with Tomato Salsa and Guacamole..YUM, Terra Signature Burger - Grass-Fed Beef, with out of this world Chipotle-Infused Barbecue sauce and giant Onion Rings and of course my favorites... Mussels in saffron sauce.... Beautiful sunset in the background and a fire pit in the center... Delicious Food, Fabulous View and the guest here as so friendly.... Service... wonderful! Well it's a four seasons so you have to think it will be better than the average fare. And it is. The setting is great, very quiet surroundings in the location, and being a bit remote, they probably rely more on their hotel guests. Anyway, among what was good,: service , it was was great with a pleasant and present waitress. Quite tone and excellent views add to the goods. Not really any bads, it's pricey, but not what I would have thought it would be. Menu could have offered more choices to me, but I'm a fussy eater. Had a very romantic, quiet dinner with my boyfriend on our last night in Santa Fe. There weren't many other diners and we got a nice seat next to the fireplace. Staff was very polite, present, but didn't hover and gave us our privacy. Food was amazing! We had the tuna tartar, lamb, venison, sundae all washed down with some local Santa Fe Nutty Brown. Very good quality, great farm to table resourcing. I was impressed. The chef came by to ask us about our meal and tell us goodnight before we left - a really nice touch for nobody's like us! With drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and dessert the bill was around $120. Very reasonable for such a nice meal at such a nice place. Bonus: free valet. read more

Quick Review: If you are trying to figure out where to eat by reading Yelp reviews then read no more. Go eat at Terra now! The food is incredible. The staff is wonderful. And the experience is top class. Full Review: Let me start by saying that I have not yet had the privilege of dining at Terra for their regular menu, but I have been there for their holiday buffets and WOW! My girlfriend and her mother originally went for a breakfast buffet and didn't stop raving about it, so this year for Christmas we went to their brunch buffet and I am in aww of the food they served. As a cook I am always excited to try other restaurants with good reputations and Terra has been on the top of my list since I read about it. First things first, the buffet is set up in the kitchen. So as you are filling your plate you can see the spotless kitchen in witch your food was prepared. Also, you get to interact with the chefs which is always fun, but seriously...their kitchen is spotless. One of the cleanest kitchens I have ever seen, including the ones I have worked in. From an industry view point the kitchen is epic. It is a chefs dream kitchen. We got to speak with the executive chef, Andrew Cooper, as well and he seemed like a really hands on guy and all of his employees seemed happy, even though it was Christmas Day. Okay, so now food. I could go into detail about every little thing I ate and how perfect it was, but it was a special buffet menu so I am not sure anything is a regular menu item. Regardless, the only thing that matters is the execution of it because if they can make a buffet that good I can only dream of what regular night there is like. The turkey was probably the best cooked turkey I have ever had (sorry mom) and the sea bass with risotto was incredible, I couldn't stop eating! I think I did 3 full plates of food and tried every item in the buffet. I was not disappointed with any of it, hell I wasn't even content with any of it, I was enthused by every little bite of each dish. This holiday buffet is going down as my best buffet experience ever and I cannot wait to try Terra's regular menu. Chef Andrew Cooper is doing great things in his kitchen. The ever-changing chefs here (the current one being the worst) have left this restaurant a ghost town. It has a lovely setting and cry out for better food! people come for the bat and the sunsets. Yesterday lunch total flop!! So disappointed. I will not recommend terra to anyone for lunch. I recommend terra to my guests only to be embarrassed by the experience. The restaurant had four main areas, two outside overlooking the beautiful topography with great vantage points for sunsets. The interior had an ample bar and lounge area and then the main dining room. All the areas flowed nicely together and by 7 pm on a Tuesday even was pleasantly crowded, mostly with locals. The waiters were both attentive and friendly, making some excellent recommendations. I ordered the mint spiked lemonade, it was refreshing and perfect for the warm evening. I enjoyed chatting to our waiters, who offered great recommendations for our visit. We ordered from the bar menu, there were a lot of interesting choices. The trout and homemade chips were beyond my expectations, the portion was ample and there was plenty to share. The trout was prepared simply with s&p, not greasy at all and light and tasty served over perfectly crisp fries. We also ordered the nachos, which were good, though a little salty. The semifredo is the way to go for dessert, all local ingredients, the bananas with the chocolate was the perfect end to our meal. read more

This is my favorite Santa Fe restaurant and would give it more than five stars. I have been going there for about 15 years for the view, not so much for the food. I was not impressed with the food but in the last 2-3 years, the food has turned from "mediocre diner-style" food to superb. I have eaten there regularly, the last couple of years and I would give it a solid rating every time. Staff is great, bartenders are incredible, service is impeccable, and their chef is beyond words, five stars and more if I could. We have a lovely pre-opera dinner at Terra. The service was top-notch professional. The special pre-opera menu was reasonable, appropriately light, and delicious. I particularly admired the chef's way with risotto, which was perfectly al dente, and bok choy, which was soft (not chewy) and flavorful. It is so nice to get dressed up for dinner --at least once in awhile! Santa Fe as a rule is super casual, so I really relished getting dressed up for my Valentine's Day surprise. I had no idea I was going to The Four Seasons--heck, I didn't even know there was a Four Seasons in Santa Fe! Everything was beautiful! I have stayed at the 4 seasons here and ate at terra, to be honest though this is a 5 star hotel it wasn't 5 star food I order the citrus salmon and it wasn't big the rest of the meal was other food that didn't taste good it was decoration. Plus the menu only has 6 things? And all the entrees are 30 bucks or more!!! Also the breakfast is almost the same things but one different ingredient!!!! When I looked on the room service menu it had three times as many choices than Terra's menu!!! This ones not the best read more

TERRIBLE dinner. 4 of us went for dinner on new years eve. The meal was terrible and service was poor. I could not tell if they were short staffed or just spent much of their time out of the dining room. The lobster bisque, well wasn't. It was some sort of soup. The broth might have been made with the shells. But there was no lobster in the bowls we were served. The Waygu was maybe 3 oz and mine had something tough on two sides that really could not be eaten. The only accompaniment appeared to be a baked sweet potato with a round cut off. I did not detect any seasoning, no sauce, nothing. Just a plain round of sweet potato. What they called an opera cake was a dried out 3/4" wide piece of cake with minimal filling and a topping of flavorless chocolate that had to be broken up to eat. The champagne toast that was part of the fixed price was brought after we ate, after we paid (where they accidentally charged me twice the amount due) as we were leaving. Who drinks as you are leaving to drive home. We clearly did not matter. but they wanted $1000 for the pleasure. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were. I cannot imagine ever going back. read more
