I am unhappy with the customer service provided by Terra X Pest Services. On multiple occasions, I called their support line to clarify an unexpected charge on my account and followed up with an email, yet I never received a response or a call back. Our business had an account with Terra X, and even after we terminated the service, we continued to receive monthly charges. We paid an extra charge of $280 before we noticed that we had been overcharged, and after months of trying to get back the money they owe us, we have finally given up. It seems that Terra X Pest Services relies on an automatic billing system, but there is a poor communication between their departments. I Had to do Their Work for Them--And for Free Don't call X Terra for skunk or critter control. Initially they came across as professional and the person who came out was personable, but their estimating, billing, and competence stunk. When I initially called them, I was concerned about skunks. If they rebut my criticisms, their defense will probably stress the concern with skunks. But that's a half-truth denial of their responsibility. When Brad arrived and looked at the situation and was trying to get my OK for him to do the work to exclude skunks from under the deck, he said that his work would also keep out ANY small critters, such as rats. His sales pitch about keeping out other small pests was convincing. When I asked what the cost would be, he said that $750 should cover it all. I was really pleased that Brad had brought up the issue of other pests and had said that his work would take care of them, too. That and the price convinced me to hire them. I said it sounded good and he should proceed. He looked closely at the deck to determine the amount of work. He then suggested he look at my attic and see if there were any openings. He looked and found that it was essentially critter proof but that there were a couple of small holes he could plug. Again, I asked for an estimate. He said the total job would be $750 to $800, possibly less. Based on the expanded scope of work (from preventing skunks to preventing all small critters) and on the estimate sounding reasonable at possibly less than $800, we made an appointment. Brad came out and was personable and efficient and seemingly competent. However, when he said he was done with each area, I inspected and found four spots where openings large enough for a rat had not been plugged. Without argument--such as him saying that his goal was only to stop skunks--he quickly remedied his oversights. When I asked what the cost would be, he said about $800, "what I told you before". Well--he had NOT said "about $800", which means it could be substantially higher. He had said "possibly less". I think it should be considerably less, since I Had to do Their Work for Them: inspecting the work on my hands and knees and finding that the work was faulty and rats could easily have nested under the deck. If my detailed inspection had not found the trouble spots, the company might have had to come out again to correct the work, meaning extra cost to them. Probably worse, there could have been rats nesting and no one would know where they were. They should pay me for my trouble: an apology discount. The failure of the company to perform adequately made me unhappy when the manager said the bill was $818 and he would make no allowance for the worker's errors. The manager's excuse was that his and my initial discussion was about skunks, not about rats. Since skunks would be kept out, he said everything was up to standard and he would make no adjustment to the bill. For Joe the manager, it made no difference that Brad--not me--suggested the enlarged scope of work. For him, it did not matter what Brad had said about the cost. It's not the $18 that matters. It's that I had to inspect carefully on my hands and knees for the work to be done correctly. There should be an apology discount for that. Joe, the manager, made a big deal out of the fact that Brad spray painted the wire that they used with a black paint. Brad himself offered to do it. It was not asked for. When I saw that the painting he'd done wasn't necessary, I told him he could stop. He decided to finish. So it was all Brad's decision and it probably took him only five minutes, anyway. My fault. I didn't require a written estimate. Don't make the same mistake. And inspect every detail. Stay and watch what is being done. And don't believe that honesty, reason, and goodwill will carry the day. read more

I would give zero stars, negative stars, if I could. I've done $1,392 amount of business with Terra X from October '17 thru April '20. I called this past week with something eating on my 160+, 40 varieties of pepper plants. I've invested a HUGE amount of effort to have a pepper garden of such depth and quantity. I explained my predicament to the office voice mail and got no call back. I even said I was a repeat customer. I called back again and finally got an 'office person' who said to call the owner. The owner's cell greeting started "Your call is very important to us". That should have been a clue!! I left essentially the same message. I was extremely worried. Crickets. I called again, "Your call is very important to us"; repeat; same results Then his trapper called back and set an appointment for a week out. I explained how devastated I was and how much in need of help, asking if we couldn't move sooner, also stating that I was a repeat customer. He essentially stated; take it or leave it. I still had not heard from the owner. This was Terra X's hourly employee!! Friday at 4:30, the employee again, called to say that 'he' didn't like my attitude and would not work with me...I was on my own At the end of the week, at the end of the day!!! Revenge is best served cold as the saying goes. I have a friend in the fish wholesale business and he's fed up with Terra X as well. Do not use these people. Extremely disappointing. Lots of $$ for the 10 minutes to check/re-set rat traps. No exploration of possible nesting site/blockage.

Would not recommend. No clear warranty period even if they missed a rodent access point. In the event that you do have issues shortly afterwards, you will get charged again for them to do an entire rodent trapping program. Sadly I found this out after the fact assuming it was warrenty work. ~$800 down the drain. read more

Their work is far more than setting traps. Jackson, who has worked on our rodent issues, is a rodent detective, spotting evidence of rodent entries like hair caught on an opening in old wire mess I had placed to prevent entry. He suits-up and makes a very thorough inspection under and around a structure; he'll access any area no matter how yucky looking for entry points. He also shared professional tips & products for avoiding repeat rodent damage to my cars. I think it is important to keep in mind that rodent prevention is not a one-time visit from a folks like Jackson. Rodents will gnaw their way in if they find a small opening by sensing a draft of air from inside, or keep working at barriers until they breach them. So, you may need the company to come & re-inspect every few years. But, I don't think you could find a better fellow than Jackson at Terra-x to keep you rodent-free. read more

We have been using Terra-X for our gopher abatement for several years. Unfortunately, management has become unprofessional and will not return phone calls. Instead, they put their employees in the middle of situations to resolve issues - sad. After paying $180 for a hour treatment, gophers came up in the same areas the next day. Rather than standing behind their work and retreating (perhaps CO gas was low the first time - which had happened in the past) they would not come out again unless I paid another $180. One star is for the company management not the tech (Carlos) who did the service. He's top notch, professional and courteous. read more

We had an issue with rats for 3 months. I had a local pest control that I used for years come out a couple of times to try and set traps and assess the possible entry points. They said they didn't see any antra points. They left " sticky traps". I kept letting them know it wasn't helping. They did nothing differently. I finally got so frustrated that I reached out to Terra X. There were prompt and thorough. The owner/manager was very nice, he listened to the issues and had an employee named Jackson come to my home the next morning. Jackson set " real traps", went I to the attic, the sub area, and the exterior. He found 7 entry points. We caught 1 rat that night in his trap inside the house. Where he sealed the entry points, there was a lot of chew marks but the seals were not breached. I changed to Terra X for my maintenance and can not say enough about how great they are. read more

Horrible experience with this company. Initially I was pleased with their responsiveness (when they wanted my business) and they assured me they could take care of my rodent mite problem. Crispin came out and treated the house and I had no bites for 2 weeks but then the mites returned so he came out again. Two weeks later, more bites. I called again and was told that for another $460 they would treat the rodent problem. I already had paid $460 for their unsuccessful mite treatment. I have placed 5 calls to this company in the past two weeks and have received no return calls. I am very unhappy and will seek help from a more reputable company in the future. We heard noises in our attic and thought it was rats. Called Terra X and the owner explained that it could be something besides rats. He sent his employee Jackson out the next morning. Working with Jackson was awesome, He was on top of the problem. He ended up catching Mama raccoon with 4 babies. He sealed all entry points and cleaned the mess that the raccoons made. Like others here, I highly recommend Jackson. I don't know anyone else from the company, but he was wonderful. I had already set some traps before he came, but when my housemate heard something in the walls I decided I needed professional help. I didn't want anyone who uses poisons, and Terra-X doesn't. We had seen poop in the attic and tiny poop in a bathroom cabinet, plus when I went to the garden shed to look for leftover rat traps from before, I saw big poops there. When Jackson arrived punctually I showed him the areas we'd seen poop. Sure enough, we'd caught a rat in the garden shed, and one in the attic. But what Jackson did that I couldn't do is he knew exactly how the rats were getting in and how to block off their access. He cleared out the dead ones I'd caught, reset numerous traps, but most importantly prevented anymore from getting in. He came back 3 or 4 more times to check his traps, but we never heard anything in the walls, never saw anymore poop, and the traps remained untouched. I was referred to Terra-X by another pest control company who told me that Terra-X was experienced with the eradication of carpenter ants. If left alone, these ants can significantly weaken the structure of a house. Jackson showed up and has worked diligently to get rid of this pest. He is a very friendly young man who knows everything there is to know about carpenter ants. He was able to find their bore holes in my house and discovered where they were coming from (which isn't easy to do). He utilized a variety of measures to get rid of these large wood boring ants that are extremely difficult to get rid of. I'm sure he is just as skillful with regard to other pests as well. I can't say enough about how well this company, especially Jackson, has addressed my pest problem. read more

So we had a little ant problem at our house in Santa Cruz. OK, I lied, it wasn't a little problem. The Greater Central Coast Ant Coalition seemed to be taking place in our home, complete with thick red-black ant superhighways coursing across my kitchen counters and bathroom walls. Despite my careful efforts to leave not a single molecule of food available to them, the little buggers carried out their headquarters operations in and around our cozy home, with no regard for paying rent or at least providing some redeeming quality. This grew old quickly, especially after the little ingrates started biting me. I tried to reason with them, telling them I didn't want to poison them or kill them. I tried the Borax trick, it didn't work against such a numerous Ant Army. I considered adopting an anteater but have no idea how to housebreak an anteater. I finally admitted defeat and made the call to Terra X Pest Services. Joey Terra came out to my house the next day, calmed my fears about using a perimeter spray outside the house, and set some bait stations inside the house, up high and out of the reach of my very curious 2 year old son. Literally 24 hours later, the ant super-highways were deserted - I leaned against the counter with a sigh of relief, and no fear of little reddish-black hitchhikers climbing all over me. I had a major smelly problem and it turned out to be a rat under the house. I called TerraX and they came out to the house within 30 minutes. Joe had no fear--went right under the house and tracked down a dead rat, which he promptly took away. Before he left I asked him about what I could use to kill spiders and other insects getting into the house. Joe actually GAVE me some environmentally-friendly insecticide--no charge--and it has worked beautifully. dont have this guy, joe terra do anything at your home!! he is a rip off! on 2/10/12 he came to our home and told us nothing that we already knew and charged us $320.00 to place rat traps around. he is expensive, never came back and took the rats out of our traps, i had to do it myself and also today 7/17/12 we still have traps laying around in closets with rotten food on them that he has left behind. STi LL TODAY I keep finding them under furniture AND APPLIANCES BECAUSE HE NEVER TOLD US WHERE HE HAD PLACED THEM.
