I don't know what to say about this place, other than that I"m going to cry when I move out of the neighborhood. They make the meanest bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. And don't even try to resist a chocolate muffin from the table while you're standing in line. They're moist, fresh and homemade. The sandwiches deserve special mention. The chicken fantastic (crispy chicken with bacon, american cheese and russian dresing) and the Peter Luger (roast beef with fresh mozz, grilled onions and Luger's sauce) are delicious. They have really great meats and cheeses, and all the delicious salads that you would expect, plus some extras. They also have a variety of cream cheeses (the jalapeno is actually hot, careful) and a few flavors of tofu cream cheese. They even have soy milk for your coffee!!! Run, not walk. read more

Terrace Bagels have gone completely downhill. I've lived in the neighborhood for quite some time and used to enjoy their bagels on the regular. Not only has the price increased for a bagel with cream cheese, the staff is completely rude. I've ordered delivery countless times. After calling for a delivery this morning, the guy answering the phone asked three times for my cross streets (we are four blocks away). Then proceeded to ask if they delivered to us before. Yes, many times. The guy the commented that he works every day and never heard of us. Then said: I guess I don't need to know everything. All of this was said with such an attitude that we will not be ordering or picking up for Terrace Bagels any longer. Is this a four star or a five star bagel place? Honestly, I'm not sure. I thought Terrace Bagels was easily better than Montague Street Bagels but not quite as good as Daniel's Bagels (where the dough has just a slight sour note to it that takes the experience to the next level). I can't believe I have both never written a review or checked in yet for Terrace Bagels. This is without a shadow of a doubt one of my favorite bagels in the city. Yes, even beating out Manhattan. A close one to this would be Bagel Factory on 17th street. But for some reason the bagels are a little less crunchy, a little more doughy in the good way. Fresh even at 5pm. HUGE. The flavors are great. I'm a fan of the egg bagel traditionally because I'm not so keen on too much salt. I like the garlic. They load it on there. And cinnamon raisin with strawberry cream cheese is possibly the best desert breakfast ever created. Their cream cheese is just as wonderful as their bagels! Jalapeno cheddar, chive, vegetable, lox. Lots of options and even for those crazy vegans you can get some flavored tofu cream cheese. They don't only serve bagels here but a wide variety of great looking salads and cold cuts for sandwiches, though I've never tried anything else. Great looking pastries and some festive coffee cakes and donuts line the shelves. If I could eat Terrace Bagels every day and not get fat, I totally would. read more

I came in here on rainy day and hungry. I wanted something hot and filling. What comes to my mind? Meatball Sandwich! After unwrapping this massive thing it looked real tasty. As I took my first bite, I saw the cheese all hot, gooey and and melty. That was the only thing that was hot. The meatballs were really big, but were not heated all the way through. Not only was I made to feel like an outsider when I didnt know exactly how their ticket counter worked, but they messed up 2 parts of my sausage egg and cheese order. Terrace Bagels is your typical hole-in-the-wall Brooklyn Bagel shop/deli. They've got sandwiches, bagels, as well as a surprising selection of Jewish baked goods for a place that there are no Jewish workers to be found. The bagels are great, definitely one of the best in the area. The texture and taste could have been a little better but they're still one of my top 10 places for bagels. The place is cramped and often has a line but the guys keep the line moving and there's always the Prospect Park a block away to sit and eat if you don't want to take the food home with you. Growing up in a mountain state out west, my early exposure to bagels were the supermarket type - 6 or so to a bag. They were uniformly thick, often pre-flavored with sugars or raisins, and pretty much were only served with Philly cheese spread. You could toast them, but that usually resulted in a slightly crispier chunk of dough. Good for filling an empty stomach, but not exactly tasty, and completely unmemorable 20 minutes later. And while I've had better bagels since, Terrace simply nails them. And I mean that metaphorically - otherwise there's a potential health hazard (plus they aren't really holey from a technical standpoint). These puppies are nicely sized, with a thin but polished crust encapsulating a slightly chewy core. Whatever flavor of bagel you choose will be pronounced - whole wheat smells and tastes like whole wheat - yet doesn't overpower whatever flavors you add to the spread. My latest purchase was simply one with a cream cheese and chives. Together we sat on a bench in nearby Prospect Park, taunting the morning joggers and workout clubbers, who I'm sure were jealous of my fist sized ball of carbs, luscious cheese and herby goodness. I was staying with my friend in Brooklyn and could walk here comfortably. While most people try out different breakfast places every morning, my friends and I were so satisfied with these Brooklyn bagels that we came almost every morning of our 5 day stay. Even things as simple as a plain bagel and plain cream cheese was tasty enough to keep us coming back. They also have delicious (and cheap!) coffee and so many flavor options for us to try something new every day if we wanted to. I've had too many bad experiences there to remember. The bagels are decent but the management is beyond terrible (the rest of the staff is fine). Today, they never called my name for my food, I waited for 30 minutes...and then it turns out my food was with the deliveries...and the manager told me it was my fault and that I should be happy my order was taken and still warm. I'm actually shocked at all the negative reviews! I've been going here for 4years..by far superior bagels to many in the city. There lox spread is amazing and full of lox and always fresh! The bagels are full of flavor and well made, crisp on outside chewy in center. As far as service is involved, this is a Ny place. Know what you want when you get to the counter...then get out of the way. This place is busy, there is no time for pondering or questions on a Sunday am. This is one of the first places I checked out when I moved in to the area, and I have never given me a reason to go to any other bagel establishment since. With their storefront a mere block and a half from my apartment, I frequently find myself on a 9:45 jaunt over to satisfy my nighttime bagel and cream cheese craving. It's gets crowded during the morning rush, but when I go in around 8am on the weekends (when I take my dog out) it's not that bad. 10am it's practically out the door. The staff have always been friendly and courteous, and I really do think they're doing their best when it's crowded. What I really love about Terrace Bagels is their cream cheese selection. Blueberry bagel + Jalepeno cream cheese = heaven. The Jalepeno cream cheese has some other kind of shredded cheese in it too, and if there's one thing I like with my cheese, it's mo' cheese. I thought the Sundried tomato cream cheese was a little too spread-y (?) for my taste, it didn't seem like cream cheese, but it was still good. For sweet I aim for the strawberry or pumpkin, savory I tend to go veggie or jalepeno. I take my cheese home because I think it's more economical, and then I can eat the rest later with some other bagels I purchased! Super yum. read more

Ugh. Got some bagels and whitefish salad. The bagels are decent, but too puffy for my taste. They're actually chewier than dry and airy, so not as bad as I would have thought just looking at them. If we ended up in that area and I wanted a bagel, I wouldn't say no to one. The ugh is for the whitefish salad. I'm pretty sure I just spit out a fingernail. I threw it across the room I was so grossed out, but went to pick it up and examine it because I realized maybe it was just a fish bone of some sort and not that gross. Nope. Hometown favorite. Always a long line on Sat or Sun mornings, we never mind waiting though because they move along quickly and they never got overwhelmed. The bagels are just bagels. They're good, nothing to write home about. Same with the cream cheese, it's good. BUT then we discovered that everything else they sell there is REALLY GOOD. My friend had pasta from there and said it was some of the best pasta she's ever had..from a bagel place. Their sandwiches are SO good, I usually get an Italian one (they have like 10 different Italian sandwiches). You can get it on a bagel, roll or bread. I really think this is where they excel. They also have really good linzer tarts and whatever brand of chips they sell there makes the best cheese puff chips ever. The people who work there are cool, the cookies and creme coffee is SO GOOD (trust me), they have a fairly large seating area for a place off Prospect Park West. They're also open till 10 which is unheard of for a place like this, has come in handy many times. They are very fast to TAKE your order but very slow to actually serve the order. Don't get scared about the line when you arrive. That line moves quickly!! This might be my favorite bagel joint in the world, but when I was in on Sunday I got a pitiful amount of cream cheese on my bagel. I spent a great deal of my teen years working in a bagel shop, so I get not "over-schmearing" but this didn't even cover both sides with a light glaze. Other than this one recent experience, I look forward to my visits to the Windsor Terrace area due mainly to morning at Terrace Bagels (and my great friends). When I bring dozens back to Philadelphia, my New York expats are jealous and thankful for the bounty they receive. Definitely above average bagel. Not the best crunch on the bite but a good chewy center and slightly sweet in a pleasing way. I will make this my bagel stop when I don't have the energy to bike the extra aves to bagel hole hungover on the weekend. I will say the advantage this place has over bagel whole is seating and choices. I never really order anything aside from a bagel and cream cheese at bagel hole. I feel much more willing to order lunch and sit down at terrace because of the seating area. The regular bagels are a little doughy and the everything bagels (our favorite) were lacking in "stuff" on top, but the flat bagels were nice and chewy and absolutely covered in topping.
