1st time here and I can't wait to go back. Don't get discourage with parking, i went on a Sunday at 10:45 AM, parking was full. And inside was close to full, but the line was only minutes. The line starts with sides (baked potato and cream corn- my fav). I was asked if we need any bread, my wife said no, but the lady says its fee and just put it on our tray (love the hospitality and I ate the 3 slices). Self serve drinks and condiments. What an awesome place! While visiting Austin this was recommended by several different people. We opted for more food than we needed but it made great leftovers. It was "cafeteria style" where you wait on line for the sides first then went to the meat. The servers were all very kind and we even got some meat freebies which was super kind. I am nowhere near a BBQ expert but Terry Black's hit the spot for me! They serve "cafeteria-style" and it was quite hectic inside so we sat in their indoor-outdoor patio area. They had heaters outside so it was nice and cozy. I'm a sucker from cornbread, having grown up in Georgia, and it's been surprisingly hard to find a BBQ place in Texas that has it. The sides here are great - I loved the green beans and creamed corn. The mac and cheese was a little runny and a tad bland. I tend to go for brisket, but my friend recommended the beef rib and it is incredible! Definitely try the beef rib if you prefer a juicier meat. Amazing! This was the best barbecue I have ever had. We had the brisket and so many sides, potato salad, cabbage, mac & cheese, and a cornbread muffin. Everything was delicious. My only problem is I live eight hours away. I only wish we had barbecue like this around Baton Rouge. I cannot say enough good things about it. I completely understand why Texans love their barbecue so much. This spot was amazing! From the sides to the barbecue meats, I thought everything tasted great and there were no misses. We got one beef rib, 1/2 pound of brisket, and a small side of Mac and cheese, potato salad, and green beans. The beef rib is an absolutely must try, it was so juicy and tender. Both the beef rib and brisket is so tender you don't even need a knife to cut the meat. Literally fall off the bone tender. All of the sides were great as well but the green beans were a little too salty for me. The cornbread was also just okay, I would skip this. As my co-worker put it, this place is legit! Very focused on BBQ and comfort sides! There's a line at the door always, but it moves fast. Grab a drink at the beverage station while you're waiting in line! They also have Merch to peruse. First up is sides, which are sold by three sizes - a small tray, a pint - which is a larger tray, and a quart - which is a large plastic container. We ended up getting a quart of mac & cheese and a pint of the rice, which was for three people. You can also order your dessert in the same area. Then you grab your tray and move onto the meat ordering counter and where you pay. The prices are by the pound for the meat and it is crazy hard to decide. We ended up going with three slices of brisket, the spicy sausage and the regular sausage, and four beef ribs. In my opinion, the brisket was the absolute best beef brisket I've ever had in my life, tender and melts in your mouth and has an amazing texture along with the requisite smoke ring . I choose the original barbecue sauce, which is on each table. They also have a spicy sauce and a sweet sauce. We also ordered cornbread and there are some other things you can also get like sliced white bread, pickles, green beans, and even avocado. We also opted for the banana pudding, which was creamy like whipped cream on top with the requisite vanilla wafers, and then the vanilla pudding with the bananas on the bottom layer; it was pretty good. Overall, it's not surprising why this place is packed inside and outside. There's lots of lively conversation and the noise level is pretty high, but it doesn't really matter when you're in barbecue heaven, and then barbecue coma. I definitely recommend coming out from downtown if you're ever in Austin. Everyone loved what we ordered and we literally had to be rolled out. Ordering can be a little confusing and chaotic but it's not terrible. Here's a few things to keep in mind: * The food is great! BBQ is nice and smoky, the sausage is delicious, the potato salad is top notch! * If there's a line out the door, it's not worth it. There are too many options in town for you to have to wait. We walked in the front door and were offered drinks while we wait. We ordered two local beers brewed for Terry Blacks! Paid at that counter and then waited in line! First up, choose your sides and we went nuts! Creamed corn, mac and cheese, potato salad and cornbread. The creamed corn was the most delicious side I've ever had a bbq spot. Truly unique! All others were as you would expect. We ordered the cheddar jalapeño sausage link, brisket and Turkey! ALL AMAZING- but their sausages are stellar. People shift quickly throughout the dining room and we had no problem getting a seat. It did start heavy heavy raining while we were eating so most folks outside had to come in- but the staff handled the adjustment with precision.
