But I have had terrible experiences with the help at the shop and the prices are exhorbitant for what you get (some of the peices are just pure chocolate and yet per pound it comes out something like $60). Great truffles, very limited selection, but the nicest of imports around. Teuscher is a bit overpriced, though (I guess you pay big bucks for the importing and freshness of this kind of product) and they 'hide' the price as much as possible (they avoided telling me prices per pound, etc), but the most simple, clean imported chocolate to find. If you're in Union Square, this is the place to go, but if you venture further outward to Union STREET, you won't want to miss Goldleaf Chocolate Company on 2250 Union Street, where they make fresh local chocolates (so much better than Ghirardelli touristy-cheap stuff). We got our wedding favors (champagne truffles and double chocolate truffles) at Goldleaf and received rave reviews from friends. My friend and I walked into this store last Friday. The owner, Alan Le, greeted us warmly and chatted us up a bit. They have a good selection of chocolate but the prices are quite steep at $78 a pound. I just moved here a month ago and I already found my favorite chocolate store! Teuscher! I tried others in the areas like richart or ghirardelli but they don't even compare to Teuscher's. I don't normally write reviews but I had to for this chocolatier. I especially LOVE the champagne truffles...their specialty! The creamy middle just melts in your mouth. You can't find any other like this in the world. I enjoyed them so much I had to buy a box. I bought an assortment of chocolates and they were all delicious and fresh. The packaging is very nicely done and the store is so charming! The staff is very very nice and helpful also. The guy that helped me...I forget his name...was very informative and friendly! Very flavorful chocolate. Excellent taste. Unlike the very common See's candies, Teusher has a balanced taste of sweetness and its ingredients. Expensive though. Paid almost $2.50 for one tiny piece of nougut. The first champagne truffles I ever fell in love with were by Alice Medrich, the chocolatier who owned Cocolat. I love chocolate. But I will go against the grain here and say that I did not like this place. The husband brought home $20 worth of dark chocolates. So, that came out to something like 5-6 pieces. Yes, pricey. But, if it is good, that is OK. I thought every one was worse than the other. This was the best and most expensive chocolate shop in town, and rather plain, until you-know-who moved in half a block away. Then Teuscher did an about face and became the anti-Richart, as fun and whimsical and colorful as Richart is serious. Richart has simple jewelry-case pedestals with shallow drawers that pull out like a map cabinet to reveal simple, clean, elegant square chocolate squares. Teuscher has a glass display counter decked out with crepe paper, handmade animal theme boxes, and pieces shaped like bunnies, airplanes, and candied fruit dips. It makes me smile just to think about it, and I remember the store more than the flavors. Still rather expensive but it IS ultra premium priced by the pound, not the box, and they weigh it out. If I need a classy thank you gift for business I visit the chocolate museum up the street; if I'm on a date or with friends and need a heart-lifting pause from the trials of life, this is the place. read more

I love Swiss chocolates. Lindor by Lindt and Toblerone (to name a few) are some of the best wholesale chocolates that you can easily find at your local drugstore or liquor store. Guess what, they're Swiss chocolates! So when I saw a little shop with a chic "teuscher: chocolates of Switzerland" logo from across the street, I had to take a look. The cute chocolate bees, butterflies, and gnomes intrigued me right from the start. As I look through their vast selections, I decided on: dark chocolate honey bee, the dark chocolate butterfly, Jasmine truffle, French nougat, the chocolate ganache, and the pistachio truffes. I really enjoyed the dark chocolate honey bee and the chocolate ganache. The former is very simple chocolate with no fillings while the latter is decadent. I usually don't go for the low and high extremes when it comes to chocolate (dark chocolate truffle is usually the "just-perfect" option for me), but something about these two just made me sing songs of love. What can I say, those Swiss really know how to make chocolates. I like this place not only because they fulfill my Swiss chocolate cravings, the customer service is friendly and the shop feels homely for a high-end confectionery shop. This is often very uncommon, and I'm glad that teuscher incorporated a welcoming feel to their customers. I couldn't give it a 5-star because I still feel like the price of one piece of chocolate here is going to break my bank one day. They sell by the lb and one piece range from $2.00 and up.To be honest, there are other chocolatiers who sell the same quality for a cheaper price! I had been hooked on these chocolates ever since I received a box for XMAS. They are the best chocolates I have ever tasted so far. I finally made the drive into the city from the east bay to buy some for myself. I have never spent that much money before on chocolates ($76 for 3 small boxes), but I am loving every single bite. The only thing that could improve is their customer service. The girl that was working was not rude, but not too friendly either. After she rang me up I said "Thank you" and she gave me no response. She didn't give me my receipt either. Oh well, but the chocolates are just heavenly. read more

I've been living off of Teuscher chocolate for 18 years. Okay maybe not "living off of" but the point is I can't stay away from this damn place so matter how many times they try to switch locations. I have an addiction problem, I know. Everyone loves the Champagne Truffles, which are fantastic too, but my absolute favorite are the milk chocolate hazelnut pralines and white chocolate gianduja (both tied for #1 for me). Champagne comes in 2nd for me. Other than that, I can safely say that there isn't a single flavor that I don't like. Everything is velvety smooth, to die for!!! read more

My favorite chocolates this side of Switzerland. I love the dark caramel crunch, and the hazlenut chocolates. I love the just the milk chocolate by themselves. And if I ever want to get on the good side of my mother or my sister-in-law I just send a box and voila! They're expensive, and have a high carbon foot print, and there's no way to justify them, except they are such a treat! I would rather savor one chocolate from here, than ten from anywhere else. See I can justify it. The owner and the people that work here are also really nice. Purchased some chocolates for my boss and his family during the holidays. I tried their truffles - pretty darn good although I'm not an expert. Pricey but that's ok because these are special chocolates for special occasions. Service was just as nice and responsive. read more
