This is a chain. Did not know that prior to today. It's a combination store with a sonic, bbq, gas station and a gift shop all rolled into one. The staff was friendly. (The staff at sonic was more helpful). This BBQ is very mediocre. Nothing special except the price, for what you get it's expensive. $15 before tip for a so-so plate of chips with chopped brisket and melted cheese (like the kind that comes out of a big can cheese) I won't eat here again, and I can't recommend it to anyone else. read more

Not the best barbecue but okay in a pinch. The brisket was a little dry and not tender. The pulled pork was good and so were the spicy beans. The sausage had good flavor but not very juicy. The rolls were good too. We had the Regan's spicy barbecue sauce. They were tasty. Customer service was good. read more

At the corner or highway 287 and Walnut Grove sits a Sonic, Texas Best Smokehouse, Pistol & Pearls and a Shell all rolled into one building. Decided to have some ribs for lunch and I'm sorry I did. This was the most disgusting ribs that I have ever had. Sides were canned and doctored up a bit. Slaw was ok. The best thing I had was the ice water. Keep driving. Don't stop. Save yourselves. I was hungry and we stopped here to get a card for a birthday party we were heading to. I decided to grab a bite to eat here since we didn't know the food situation at the party. I got the chopped brisket sandwich and wifey got the turkey baked potato. I was happy with my sandwich it came with lots of chopped beef meat quality was pretty good for brisket and the sauce was not bad at all. Brisket is an abomination for a place that has the audacity to call themselves "Texas Best." They slice the briskets horizontally so you don't get the crust on both sides and, to expand on that, I'm positive they don't even smoke their brisket..... The manager could see how mortified I was being served this food and gave me a 10% discount, but to be honest, I would've left a 1 star review even if they gave it to me for free. Omgoodness this place is a mess. The brisket I got was super dry plus the kid gave me mostly ends. It's sad you have to watch over the person being paid to put your food in a container ‍ Very sloppy work also, food gets on the outside of the container and doesn't get wiped clean. Updating review, as the service has gotten better. The food is still just ok. If you have the buy one, get one coupons it's really worth it. The loaded barrel baked potato with chopped brisket is the best and most consistent menu item. The meats, overall, are pretty decent. The sides are pretty tough to stomach. Fake bbq. The meat isn't even smoked. It's only put into a smoke box after it is already cooked. They reheat meat from earlier in the week. The potato salad tastes exactly like Walmarts potato salad. It's not too bad for convenience store barbecue. You can do a lot worse. Pretty reasonably priced. A little touristy in that the jalapeño sausage is chocked so full of peppers, you really can't do much with it. Just skip it and go on to the brisket and such. It's a good stop if you are traveling. The meat was very delicious! It was so tender and juicy with a ton of flavor. The Mac and cheese was creamy and extra cheesy but could've used a little salt. The baked beans were a disappointment though. They had potential but lacked any kind of zing; it was just very bland. I would definitely eat here again though! Now Texas Best Smoke House sits in a gas station/ convenience store sitting inside the store side by side with a Sonic(ehhh). Now don't worry about the gas station part this place is super clean and new! While she ,my wife, committed crimes against humanity and ordered from sonic ,cheese fries and a soda! I wandered over to Texas Best! Now I wasn't gonna order (cause I was headed to a cookout hahahaha) anything but who am kidding I gave in and told myself a chopped beef sandwich was a small snack (look you do what gotta do to live with yourself)! Lol! The kid behind the counter was super friendly and courteous and ready to take your order. Now all I got was a chopped beef sandwich and a drink. The kid asked if I'd like the regular or spicy Barbecue sauce. I think we all know what direction I took and great google moogly was it tasty! Now look you can pretty much tell how good a BBQ joints gonna be by it's sandwiches! So if this rule holds true their other offerings should be tasty! Cannot wait to pass through Midlothian again!
