Local family owned spot inside of a renovated church. Place has tons of charm with many original elements intact, but modern at the same time. One of two places it looks like to eat in Founders Row. Came with a group of 7. We stood around the bar height tables and had drinks for about an hour before finally sitting down. The bartender took great care of us despite the size of the group and ensured we had everything we needed. Once we sat down, the real magic happened. We ordered a few apps for the table, calamari, spinach and artichoke dip and alligator bites. I only had some of the artichoke dip and some of the complementary smoked salmon dip they brought out. Didn't want to be too full for the catfish plate I ordered. The artichoke dip was made with smoked Gouda and was great. The other apps got great comments from other people in the party. I ordered a fried catfish plate that came with grilled shrimp, coleslaw and fries. Catfish was cooked perfectly and the grilled shrimp were delicious, great seasoning. The coleslaw is made with cabbage, green bell pepper and apple cider vinegar. Really great combo that worked well. Service was great especially for our large party. Our server who was also the bartender because we sat in the bar area kept a fresh soda water in front of me the entire time, never had to ask. What a handsome restaurant! Wilson's Seafood Restaurant and Grill has everything going for it. It has a beautifully restored building and unique location on Midlothian's Founder's Row. There's also an easy-going ambiance reminiscent of that Crescent City charm with a menu and service to match. We were delighted to see so much of the late David Wilson's cuisine on the menu from his Cedar Hill restaurant. His son Shawn has a jewel here and it was tough to decide on an entree. There are many enticing newer items. Special menu items included a Spinach Artichoke Dip, Steelhead Trout, and even Grouper! Our waiter, Tanner, was very kind and helpful. Eventually I ordered an old favorite, the Fried Seafood Platter with Fried shrimp, scallops, and catfish that came with a Remoulade, a sweet and spicy Cocktail Sauce and a delicious Tartar Sauce. Substitutions were not a problem and of the sides, I ordered the sautéed Spinach and a potato cake! My husband was easy. Wilson's Pot Roast was calling him. Cooked with Cajun seasoning and slow roasted, it's served with mashed potatoes, celery, carrots, fried onions and gravy. He also wanted some Jalapeño Hush Puppies. There was virtually no wait for our food or so it seemed. Our food arrived and it was terrific, first bite to last. Odd that I would enjoy a vegetable so much but the spinach was excellent and it disappeared. All of my Seafood was perfectly fried with even my shrimp tails edible - nice and tender and crunchy. The potato cake was also yummy. I haven't had one in some time. That thin fried shell with the creamy tasty interior ... My husband was over there seemingly playing in his fried onions and gravy. I had to laugh. And then try some. Ooooh. So good. He couldn't stop eating them. And the roast beef! Very tender and a huge portion. We were definitely impressed with our first outing. The restaurant is beautiful. A gorgeous bar takes up one side of room. There are tables with pews for seating, and others with a singular banquette on one side and chairs on the other. These tables can be moved. There are two unisex restrooms. Everything was very clean. The "Revival Tent" patio is equipped with fans and lighting and would be nice in almost any weather. There is ramped handicapped access in front. We're coming back soon. I was impressed with the environs, pricing, portions, quality and especially the service. read more

We loved the Crab-cakes with creamy cocktail sauce. We loved the Seafood Gumbo with house made roux! It was loaded with delicious Seafood. We loved the Teriyaki Salmon!! The finishing touch to our meal was the decadent Crème Brûlée. Highly recommend for a special night out. read more

The place is beautiful! Looks like a renovated church. The decorations are simple and beautiful. The wonders are stained glass and really elevates the experience. Our service was wonderful. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and after we sat down the waiter came and got our drink and appetizer order. My SO mentioned that it was our first time and he had some recommendations for us. He really sold the bread pudding, so even though we were full, we did order it :) (really good decision, no regrets there) Food was great and I couldn't be more excited. I've always said we don't have a lot of fine dining options in Midlothian. We've got Mo and Hari's- aside from that, everything else has been disappointing. The smoked salmon crab dip had a wonderfully Smokey flavor. Wasn't too salty like smoked salmon can sometimes be. We ordered the crab finger which was a special we saw on the blackboard at the front and they were so full of flavor. Butter, garlic and white wine to be exact. Very easy to eat and I would highly recommend it. We both ordered the stuffed fish, which was more of a "topped" fish. The ambiance of Wilson's is far above average. The food is easily better than average and frequently is over the top. Service is spectacular. The restaurant is dedicated to David Wilson, the late owner of David's in Cedar Hill. His son, Shawn, now has this newer version. The chef, Sergio, that used to be at David's, is back with Shawn at Wilson's. We recently celebrated our Anniversary there and it was spectacular, an evening to remember fondly. The service as I mentioned was top notch. Good was super yummy! The calamari, firecracker shrimp and potato cake were so delicious. We were really looking forward to dining here based on all the glowing reviews, but overall, the food was disappointing. We tried a variety of dishes, including seafood and steak, and everything was surprisingly bland and under-seasoned. The steak, in particular, was gray and lifeless -- really unappetizing. It felt like the kitchen was playing it too safe or just not paying attention to flavor. That said, the location is great and the decor is beautiful -- a lovely atmosphere with attentive staff giving great service. I just wish the food lived up to the setting. read more

My mother asked for lobster for her 80th birthday. My brother contacted Shawn and he made it happen by offering a lobster tail special the night of our reservation. This is a beautiful addition to Founder's Row. Located in an old church that was moved to the site, we were able to attend the soft opening party on Sunday afternoon. The decor is fabulous with church pews and stain glass surrounding the building. We were able to try the shrimp spread, which was fabulous. Also tried the cake fish and fried catfish. We thought the breading on the catfish was a bit thick and hid the flavor of the fish. Overall a great introduction to this new restaurant. Looking forward to trying the full menu in the future. read more

We tried the crab cakes and jalapeño hush puppies, shrimp poppers, we were also provided a sample of a new shrimp spread which was delicious! For entrees we tried the gumbo, the Cajun chicken pasta, and a grilled fish platter. We also tried the bread pudding for dessert which I found to be a touch too sweet but others at the table enjoyed. We made another visit to Wilson's and it did not disappoint. Just like the first visit, the service was amazing and so was the food. We came on a Friday night and while it was busy, we were seated immediately. I just love the charm of this place. It's so cute. We ordered calamari as our starter and they brought us a complimentary order of firecracker shrimp to try. Both were good. For our meals, I ordered the stuffed fish and my hubby had the cedar plank salmon. I wasn't in love with my stuffed fish. It seemed like something was missing seasoning wise or maybe it was the type of fish. It wasn't bad but it wasn't my fave. My hubby enjoyed his salmon. The food that my family or has I has been of good quality and has been flavorful. The wait staff is generally very good.

Seating was available quickly at 5:45. Stuffed fish was a little overcooked. Salmon plank was good, just slightly heavy on the glaze. Pablano soup was good and spicy. Overall, it was a little pricey for the quality received. The Creme Brule was great. read more

This is a beautiful building both inside and out. We had selected as a dinner spot for a met up a friend. The wine list isn't huge but has all the basics and a little beyond to pick from. I enjoyed the Rosé and it was very reasonably priced. I had fish tacos which I must admit I did not like but part of that was on me because I was too busy talking to really dive into the menu. Had I, I think it would've made a completely different choice so I look forward to going back and trying something else. My friend had the salmon and it looked great. read more

A big, big thank you to Shawn and his team for making my parent's 50th anniversary dinner a success!! I live out of the state but knew my parents were going to a place they love for this celebration. I emailed Wilson's to ask if I could somehow surprise them by footing the bill and having flowers at their table. Owner Shawn was so kind and accommodating with these requests. We corresponded over a few days to arrange a long distance payment and flower delivery. Running a restaurant is always hard work, but these days, it is really difficult, so I deeply appreciate the time and attention Shawn put took to help with my plan. After all, he didn't have to do it at all. My parents were already planning to eat there and (obviously) to pay for their own meal. Shawn's kindness was true service. As for the food? My parents LOVE Wilson's!! I hope to visit the next time I'm in town. read more

I am so happy to finally be able to leave this review. We were regular patrons at David's in Cedar Hill for YEARS, we even had a favorite waitress/bartender (Dawn) and often ate there 2-3 times a week... needless to say we have eagerly awaited the opening of it's successor. We were driving by late tonight and were very excited to see that they had finally opened. I ordered a Moscow mule to start and it was so lovely I looked to see who had made it- I was beyond delighted to see that Dawn has returned with them. Management was very friendly and it was so nice to see David's son is continuing his legacy by personally walking around and checking in with the guests. Several of our old favorites are still included on the menu ((Best crab cakes ever!!!)) which was exactly what we had been hoping for- as well as many new additions. They even have the same kids menu- which seems such a small thing- but for our autistic daughter (who grew up regularly eating at David's) makes a HUGE impact on her enjoyment and sense of comfort. The lighting, decor, and aesthetic is beautiful and on point. It's a really beautiful space with outdoor seating that I look forward to enjoying this summer. I'm really glad they are in Midlothian- it is long past due for a good seafood place... and am looking forward to them adding a happy hour menu very soon. This is my second visit to Wilson's. The first time I had a seafood Cobb salad & it was fantastic. Super fresh & a generous serving. This time I had the flown in stone crab & it was incredible in the garlic butter. We also enjoyed the firecracker chicken & shrimp starter as well as the fried grits. Soooo good. The service was impeccable. We had Dawn both times & she is professional, gracious & knowledgeable. This is an incredibly well run establishment and the food is the best & most fresh around. The place looks nice but the food was horrible. We got the Camari as an appetizer and it was good. Our dinners not so much. The fries and hushpuppies were not fresh - stale and cold. I got the fried oysters and they were small and chewy. I couldn't get eat them. Spent over $80 on two meals. Not worth it. I wanted to complain but didn't want to ruin our time since it was my birthday. Sad because I wanted to like this place since it's close to home. :( read more
