I'm not a big BBQ lover only b/c usually I see the meats soaked in BBQ sauce to cover the star of the dish. When a friend drove us here....my 1st impression was: Oh wow, we're IN Texas (finally)! I say this because I don't recall driving to an eatery, getting out of the car and smell the fresh cow dung. I know what you're thinking, not a good thing to smell right before you eat but, trust ME, this is a good sign for fresh meat. At 1st we were kinda confused when we walked in and saw the line, I thought it was one of those "regular" sit down-order your food with waitress kinda places. I'm glad it wasn't though because our waitress would not be patient with us confused puppies lol! The smell in that place was pure smokey meat deliciousness! I ordered ribs, brisket, mac and cheese and beans thinking it wasn't enough food for our appetite but it was! I love how they serve your food on wax paper rather than plates, you get that freedom of eating your food (including your mac and cheese) with your hands with no judgement. Oh! And of course you have to have their peach cobbler!!! Pure decadence! The peaches were creamy and sweet and the crust was still crunchy. I know for sure we'll be coming back, but next time I'll wear a jean skirt and boots to dance my food away with their country music! P.S. Prices were great considering your orders are by the weight! WOW!! Now this place looked as good as the food tasted. When u first drive up to the old looking gas station with more antiques than the road show laying around the grounds I thought to myself..where the hell am I. Not to mention that its in the middle of nowhere. After walking around and taking the place in, i walked inside to order what I now feel are the best ribs I have ever had. After an early and grueling Gladiator Rock n Run mud run, Liz and I suggested to the visiting Schoenborn clan that we try the BBQ place we passed on the way in. Upon arriving, first thing you will miss is that this place is big - we were starving for braised meat so we didn't initially take note that the place has several layers and could be used for a feeding venue for a variety of events (from wedding to business to anything requiring lots of food). On to the food! You go in the front and you can order #meat plates or by the pound and sides. Liz picked up the brisket and sausage and I got pork tenderloin and baby back ribs. The plates come with two sides...we both went for the German potato salad. I a pinto bean guy, she went for the mac n cheese. The brisket was pretty good, the tenderloin was moist and scrumptious, and the baby backs were not too shabby either. I wish I could say the sausage was good, but it was overdone. That's alright though, it didn't stop me. I put it all away, to include what Liz couldn't finish. The potato salad was good, and the pinto beans were nice and beanie and (with some jalapeños) tempered the saltiness of the sausage. I snaked some of the Schoenborn's cole slaw - it was the side to go for. On to dessert! Don't skimp out on the pecan cobbler! It was so good Liz ate half of my cup along with all of her peach cobbler (a la mode is an option). All in all a pretty good BBQ spot right outside of Floresville, TX. It was a nice Sunday afternoon.. so the drive was great! This was my first time coming here and i was impressed with how large the place is! I saw on the website that they have live concerts, motorcycle shows, car shows and other cool things. Let's get to the BBQ.. the brisket was great! When you order , you can request it lean so they will trim off the excess fat. Good stuff! Sausage was tasty as well! The sides I tried were: cream corn, cheesy mashed potatoes and the peach cobbler. The cream corn was good.. but wasn't the greatest. Cheesy mashed potatoes were definitely cheesy.. and they tasted hella good! The peach cobbler... that was a great finish!! Came here with family and tried a bit of everything. The outside is super cute and inviting. I had never heard of it but it was apparently features on diners, drive-ins, and dives. I was not impressed to say the least. I ended up getting the baked potato with chopped brisket. It had all the fixings on the side. The brisket was really dry though.. And flavorless. I ended up using two whole packets of sour cream and 4 squares of butter and it was not enough. The best thing on the menu was the ribs for sure. They fell off the bone and were just sweet enough. Only thing besides the sausage that was good at the place. Brisket pieces were flavorless just like my chopped brisket. Which is super strange since its meat. Not sure how it ends up so flavorless. Our family recently visited Texas Pride BBQ while attending Viva la Grasa, a Rockabilly festival held at the same venue. We drove 2 1/2 hours from Brenham, Texas and were pretty hungry when we arrived. We got the " Hungry Texan" for two which had Pork Ribs, Brisket, Smoked Turkey and Jalapeño Sausage along with 4 sides. Everything was delicious and hot! Portions are HUGE! Texas Pride is a family owned operation. They have a lot of neat old collectibles to look at while in line, ordering and dining. Their concert pavilion has more neat old stuff, including and authentic old store, tattoo parlor and nice big stage. The owners put a lot of thought into having an outdoor venue for live music under a roof so you can enjoy bands rain or shine! There is a big ol' fan that really makes it cold in there! A nice plus on hot Texas days! After watching a few of the bands play, we went back in for dessert! Peach cobbler and Pecan cobbler with BlueBell ice cream! Yum! Special thanks to Tara! You can be at a pool table and look to your left to see people eating BBQ on their motorcycles, look to your right and see someone getting tattooed, straight to see a live band and people dancing. There's a good time in every direction. Off season is very mellow, but still fun. The food is absolutely amazing. No plates here. Butcher paper, styrofoam bowls and plastic utensils. Did I just get invited to a dope backyard BBQ? Meat is perfect. The best BBQ turkey I've ever had, hands down. Ribs fell off the boat and the brisket was moist and smokey. My fellow Yelpers are right- The meat is moist, delicious, and fall off the bone tender, and the cheezy potatoes and peach cobbler are MUST try items. The brisket, pork sausage, ribs, and pork tenderloin were all phenomenal. The pecan cobbler was bland, so I wouldn't recommend it! I was also disappointed they were out of wine, so we jetted immediately after dinner to find a place with wine (I was celebrating my birthday after all, and I love wine!). This place has a HUGE outdoor seating area with a stage and big dance floor for when bands play. It's very casual, so no need to dress up unless you just want to. It's not a sit down and order type of place either. You stand in line to order your food, then the person gets everything ready for you quickly, you check out, then go sit down. I highly recommend getting dessert at the same time as dinner if you go during peak hours so you don't have to stand in line again just for dessert. We had to wait 20 minutes in line to order, but it was worth it! For two meals (2 meats and 2 sides for each meal), one beer, and two desserts, we spent $35 so it's definitely affordable! Don't waste your money or time! This place really disappoints, I've tried it twice the first time I had the beef brisket. The brisket was dry and flavorless, barley a hint of smoked flavor. Yesterday I visited again and tried the ribs, they were so salty, and dried out as was the Mac N Cheese. The green beans were also blah, bland. I've seen this place traveling 1604 but 1st time to stop...kind of a kitschy place, an old service station turned into a bbq place with a dance hall attached (I think) and antiques maybe? Dining area looks like a campground! But the most important part...the BBQ! We had chopped sandwiches this 1st visit but they were great, meat was cut in larger and smaller pieces, not like some places where it looks more like sloppy joe's! And I don't normally like bbq sauce, but really liked Texas Pride's...very good, not sharp like vinegar. The beans and potato salad were good but the peach cobbler was mediocre at best, lots of soggy doughy dough with not much peach! However, I will stop again! This place has always been a top BBQ spot for me but not after today. Came on a Wednesday around 4, no one else was in the restaurant. We got the hungry Texan for 2, frito pie with pulled pork and 2 kids meals. One was a bean and cheese taco and one with a cheese pizza. The brisket was so dry, it made me cough. Feels like you're swallowing sand paper. You could bounce the sausage across the table. You couldn't taste any of the jalapeño cheddar, there was no liquid left in the sausage. The potato salad was bad, and I mean it was spoiled. It tasted like expired Mayo. The green beans were so heavily diluted, it was inedible. Absolutely no seasoning, at all. The frito pie has the driest pulled pork on top. My 4 year old wouldn't eat the pizza. Coming to a BBQ joint, I didn't expect the worlds best pizza but if a 4 yo won't eat it, you know it's bad. My 9 year old said it tasted like lunchable pizza sauce and that's it. Worst experience ever at this restaurant. We probably won't be back. Hopefully we won't get food poisoning from the few bites of potato salad we had. read more

Used to love this place. 40 minutes away from it, and came at a non busy time around 6, no line. Tried to use the 10% with check in through this app. Unfortunately, I was told "they don't do yelp nor validate any discount offer from the app". Given that my bill was over $120+, plus 18% tip, and I was still charged for non cash adj without informing me, like most businesses do if I used a card (as if I have time to look around and read for those signs, if they have it). Besides that, they had really ranked up the price a lot more than expected, given the high inflation issue. Brisket is still good, but side dishes should have been replaced constantly specially when less than 1/4 low. Which I end up with a dry Mac and cheese, and cup was not filled up. Lemonade bucket was left on low too long, I had to wait. But, when they were informed, the staff had no replacement ready, but have to make one from scratch with the same bucket ... lol... so nvm on refill. Nobody clears the table, but us, no extra condiments available for convenience like they used to. As I should expect, since there's no servers assigned, instead you have to cut in line to ask for those things now over the counter. After we sat down, we realized we didn't get our "plates"'& we had to ask for our "plates" aka papers although we had a party of 7. Cream corn was a little bitter and not as tasty as other places however, everything else tasted fabulous! We had the "Hungry Man"- brisket, sausage, chicken, and ribs. All very tender and tasty. The atmosphere was great with an old country vibe was greatly appreciated as I couldn't help myself getting caught up in the rich history displayed throughout the store. Unfortunately, the service is what makes or breaks an overall judgement on a place. The staff had unpleasant faces on, upon walking in I didn't feel welcome. Not a CHANCE I'll go back. Ladies room had filth and water in the toilets up to the rims, yes, that's plural. The sink looked like it hadn't been scrubbed in 20 years. Floor beyond nasty. Soap? WHAT soap? Imagine one porta-potty at a rock concert and this what you get. So, while the food is still great, food safety has got to be a serious concern. If bathrooms that the employees use are this bad, what's going on behind the scenes is beyond my imagination. It was like a sauna of urine as here is no AC in the bathrooms. This is an updated review. I hate to do this but I had to bump them down a star due to inconsistencies with the freshness of their food. :( I've been here several times and each experience is different. It's always hit or miss. Sometimes you get lucky and get some amazing tender and juicy BBQ and other times you get dried out BBQ that has been sitting out for a while. The brisket (when it's fresh) is phenommnommenal, yes, I just made that word up! Pun totally intended! It's so tender that you can cut it with your fork! All of the meat products (when fresh) are very good. The sides are nothing special, don't expect to be impressed by them. They are all average at best. The mac and cheese is the only one that I really care for. The pecan cobbler though...... OMG! You have to get some of that warm yummy goodness! For the most part, the food is really good except for when it's not fresh. I went there today and the food wasn't fresh! Whomp whomp whomp! The only tender meat item was the chicken. The brisket and ribs were very dry. ::Sigh:: The last 3 visits were not as good as they have been in the past. The quality of the food is not consistent at all. I really wish that I would get that melt in your mouth BBQ every single time. Having to update my review with a lower rating really makes me sad. read more
