Side of chili and Cactus Blossom

I don't frequently eat at or review chain restaurants. I thought I'd throw this one out there based on last evening's dinner. We were seated quickly, as we went shortly after they opened for the day. If you go around prime time call ahead or be prepared to wait as this location is typically pretty busy. The menu never changes. If you've eaten there before, you won't be surprised by new choices. We had our prerequisite two baskets of buns and butter. We ordered our usual Cactus Blossom and enjoyed it while we waited for our main dishes. My pork chops were great; although my mashed potatoes could have been hotter. My dining partner got the kabobs. They were cooked perfectly to order; however, the plate and rice were cold. Our waitress finally came back around (we actually asked another waitress to find her). She took the meal back to the kitchen and they recooked the entire meal. This time everything was hot. Unfortunately, the meat wasn't cooked to order like the first plate had been. We were happy with the way they handled the issue; even if it took some time before my dining partner received their food. We took home a bunch of leftovers; like we usually do. Overall, it was a solid experience. We will certainly return in the future.

I have eaten at this chain in other locations but the first time here. Same casual western/Texas vibe that you expect with this chain which definately adds a nice vibe/ambiance to the overall dining experience of eating at this chain and is clearly one of the strengths of this business. Relative to this dining experience It was mid afternoon when we arrived and the restaurant was packed (good sign) where we ended up eating at the bar in lieu of waiting to be seated. I had some reservations about this initially but found the service at the bar to be excellent and the bar staff to very friendly and attentive to our needs with great follow up throughout the meal. Definately something to keep in mind if you are here during busy times and they ask if your are willing to wait for a table. For our meal we ended up getting the ribs and a cheeseburger with fries. The food arrived fairly quickly and was well made with good taste. No complaints here where we were both satisfied with our meals. Overall considering the fun Western vibe, quality of food and friendly/attentive staff this Texas Roadhouse is definately an excellent option in the Appleton area especially if you are looking for a meat centric meal. This is one restaurant that will not disappoint.

We had fun listening, even though we were sitting at the bar. Dinning experience was only so-so however. Thing I really liked was the French Roquefort dressing (for salad). My Prime Rib was better than average, but my wife's steak was so underdone (for her, medium well tastes) the center was not even medium rare! Her Haddock was tasty however. We both also ordered hash browns as a side, my wife's browns came out first and they were great. I was told that that mine would be out in a minute. What came out was definitely freezer burnt, gray and oily. My browns did not even look like my wife's, and tasted terrible. Because we had plenty to eat, I just shared my wife's and left mine. I did show the waitress. . She told me I should have told her earlier, she would have had them remake them. That would have been great if she would have been at the table more than the one time she said "how are the first few bites". Never got a refill on my water, even though I asked. (It's funny... she did ask if she could refill my alcoholic beverage multiple times when that was empty!) I'll say we did really enjoy the barroom entertainment, dining experience... maybe not so much. Arrived 27 minutes early, figuring we could sit at the bar and have a drink. Wrong. Their website says "Unwind with friends and family in the inviting Brunswick-style bar and lounge..." but the bar only has about 10 seats. All were occupied with people eating dinner at the bar. We were directed to go sit in the hotel hall outside to wait. That was one of the high points. The whole experience was just blah. Service was slow. The place was not busy - about 50 percent occupied I would guess. My wife's dirty martini arrived without an olive. There is a huge list of pricey wines by the bottle, but only maybe 5 reds by the glass. And after a wait, I was told the one I ordered was out. The French onion soup we ordered was pretty good. Steak was good, a small filet mignon. But - it was just plopped on a plate by itself. A grey piece of meat in the middle of a white plate by itself. For $47. No garnish, no effort to make it attractive. Sides were wrong, ordered twice-baked potato, almost got a regular baked potato. Overall, food was OK, just low effort at presentation and slow in coming. There's no dessert menu. Would have been nice to have a cup of coffee and a piece of cheesecake. It's not like they were looking to turn the table, took us two hours start to finish. Though I noted on the reservation it was our anniversary, that didn't get carried through. We don't need to be treated like royalty, but why ask if it's a special occasion if you're not going to acknowledge it? The check was wrong. I was charged for the glass of wine I didn't get. Had to wait again while that got fixed. The restrooms aren't in the restaurant - you have to leave and hike down the hotel hall to find one. It's just not the 4-star experience you would think from the billing and the big prices on the menu. Look elsewhere if you are looking for that fine dining experience.

I Came Back to Appleton... Wisconsin Immediately Fed Me…read more There are many ways to kick off an HS Reunion weekend. Apparently, the correct Wisconsin way is cheese curds, a soft pretzel, beer cheese, mustard, and craft beer. One of my host~family sisters and longtime friends brought me to Stone Arch Brewpub shortly after I touched down in Appleton, and this was exactly the kind of welcome~back I needed. Let's talk about those cheese curds. Pillowy. Soft. Tender. Ridiculously good. I don't say this lightly, but these may be some of the best cheese curds I've ever eaten. Then came the pretzel~super buttery and incredibly soft~with Wisconsin beer cheese and mustard for dipping. At that point, the reunion could have ended and I would've considered the trip successful. But we weren't done. We worked our way through an assortment of craft beers spanning Hazy IPAs, West Coast IPAs, Sours and Gose~style beers. The atmosphere was cool, the service was great, and the combination of food, beer and catching up with an old friend made this feel like the perfect beginning to my return to Appleton. Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't about finding the newest or trendiest place. Sometimes it's about sitting down with someone who knows you, sharing some great food and beer, and realizing some things really do feel like coming home. Stone Arch was a damn good way to start the reunion. Would absolutely return.
