I would have given this two stars but, to be fair, I think my expectations were too high. Again, this is Hampton Roads and this restaurant is just your run-of-the-mill Texas themed joint. I've decided to just lower my expectations or just cook/eat at home. Anywho, I sat at the bar because there was a 20-30 minute wait for a table. After around 6 p.m., especially from Thursday to Sunday, the parking lot is usually packed. I'd driven past this spot several times and thought I'd finally try it. I ordered the 12 oz Ft. Worth Ribeye "medium well" but it came out medium. (The menu denotes medium-well being "slightly pink center" however, the outside of my steak was a bit pink and I think could have been cooked a tad bit longer. I'm very familiar with how a steak is cooked, and I thought this one was undercooked for "medium well"; If you want "medium well," I'd say chance it and ask for "well done." Again, lowering expectations. This isn't a fine-dining restaurant and to be honest, the categories are probably not even taken seriously in the kitchen.) I ate much of the steak anyway. Some of the steak was a bit slimy and gummy but the sides where there was mostly fat (which is the cut of meat I ordered) were pretty well-cooked. I got the steak "smothered" (which means they actually give you a side of gravy, not put it on the meat) so that may have helped me stomach this meal. I ended up ordering onions on the side to see if it would help, but the onions were overcooked and the gravy was salty. I had a side of mashed potatoes (which tasted like they were made fresh but was a small portion) and some "mixed vegetables," (which was just brocoli and carrots thrown in a cup-sized bowl with very little seasoning.) I also ordered their "Texas sized" drink which tasted like mostly juice even with the added shot. (Again, I must state that I've had "Texas size" drinks at other chain restaurants that were more flavorful and were worth the price. I would not order this again. It's a waste to money and you'd do better just ordering a traditional drink or a beer.) The service: Again, I'm lowering my standards. The bartender was more interested in laughing and fooling around with her coworkers than actually checking on me or ensuring that I had a good experience. I even told her it was my first time there. She was friendly enough but I could tell she could care less. Maybe she's used to the regulars who come in and not having to really put forth much effort. I think I will stick to Outback or some of the better steakhouses out here (maybe Aberdeen Barn) for an experience that matches my taste. I'm a fan of Texas Roadhouse and was glad to see that a franchise was started in North Suffolk. I came here for an early dinner with my family, only 4 of us, when the restaurant opened at 4 PM. We were about the 7 or 8th group to be seated to start their dinner time. Upon being sat down, we were given a basket of their fresh yeast rolls, which are always very good. Our waitress was very friendly, and prompt in taking getting our drinks to us and taking our orders. A few of us ordered salads, and they came right away. However, my biggest grievance lies with how long it took our food to come. Mind you, I said we were the 7th or 8th group to be seated, as they just opened their doors at 4PM when we arrived. It took almost 40 minutes for our food to get to our table. We saw parties who came after us get their before us. Of course, we were livid. When we talked to our server and also to a manager, they told us that they were having an issue with one of the fryers. However, if that's the case, you should make your patrons aware of the circumstances. The food did eventually come, and when it did I was satisfied with it. The manager even took 30% off the bill and apologized for the inconvenience and slack on their end. Today, June 21, 2020 was my worst Texas Roadhouse experience. I placed a to-go order on their mobile app with a pickup time of 4:30 pm. I got there around 4:20 and waited over an hour to get my food despite inquiring about it multiple times. The first time I inquired about my food, I was asked to go back in my car while they check on it...this never happened. Twenty minutes goes by and I inquired a second time, this time my good came out soon after. When I got home, not one order came out correct. I ordered two steaks that were supposed to be cooked well done. Both came out rare so I had to recook them at home. I was supposed to get a loaded baked potato and loaded mashed potatoes. which neither came loaded. My next two orders were kids mini cheeseburgers. They forgot the fries on one of them. I don't even know what they consider burgers as the meat given barely even fill 1/4 of the buns. At the end of the day, my order looked rushed and was not up to standards. This was the best Texas Roadhouse I've ever been to. We ordered online through the website and pulled up about two minutes after it said it was supposed to be done. We texted the number--less than a minute later an employee comes out with our food! I've always had trouble with TR's online services (in person is great!) because it loses orders or takes half an hour longer than it's supposed to, but this one was spot on! The wait is always insane, and I don't know if that's because there are only two other chain restaurants in Harbourview or cause this place is really that good, but enter at your own risk...with patience. I have a favorite when I'm here. It's the steak medallions. They're always the perfect temperature and well-seasoned with peppercorn. I've opted for the gravy a couple times, and well, that's a flop. Came in right at opening. Saw fresh rolls waiting for us to be seated. Demaya was our sever. She was knowledgeable about how her restaurant operates and attentive to our needs (group of 4). I ordered a 6oz medium to medium well, I received well done and very tough. Everyone else got their steak correct. They all had 10oz. I hope mine didn't sit on the grill waiting for theirs. But I was offered a new steak. Demaya informed me that anytime a steak has to be done over, a manager has to bring it to the table. The manager did come with a new steak but it was medium rare. He offered to cook it longer, but I declined because I didn't want it to dry out. I said I would just take it home. Even though Demaya told me that the manager wanted to comp my meal, there was no apology offered by him. This restaurant was just built near my house. I drive by it all the time and finally decided to check it out today. The location is great especially since they are building up that area with shops. Country music was playing inside. There was no wait so we were seated right away. It looked cool inside. Wood everywhere even the walls. Our waitress Danielle was one of the best waitresses I've ever had. She was polite, attentive and friendly. Every hour the staff does a line dance routine. It was pretty cool and entertaining. Our food came pretty quickly. I ordered steak smothered with onions, gravy and pepper jack cheese. My sides were chili and green beans. It was really good. My son had a burger and cheese fries. The experience was overall great! I would definitely come again and recommend this restaurant. It's pretty packed in the evenings and on weekends so I'm glad we avoided the rush. read more

With bars being closed, I find it very bold of Texas Roadhouse to put a 90 minute dining limit on their guests. As a former bartender for this chain, I think of the amount of travelers this corporation serves and how many single diners I've served myself. We came during the dinner rush, so we expected a 20-30 minute wait. To no surprise we were right, the parking lot was almost full and the inside/outside seat was almost completely taken up. We went inside and got the buzzer they hand out while you wait and took two seats next to the peanuts. My husband loves going anywhere that lets you eat peanuts while you wait. It makes me uncomfortable because while you wait (not at your table) everyone throws the shells on the ground. I don't like that because I hate causing an unnecessary mess for others to clean. Our wait was prolonged because we ended up changing our two person table into a four, as two friends asked if they could join. Once we got to the table we ended up waiting another twenty minutes for our friends to arrive because they were running late... Our waitress was very friendly and nice. She served us two drinks and an appetizer while we waited. She also checked up on us while we continued to wait. I got a sangria, which was really good. If I weren't driving I would have ordered another. My husband ordered a margarita with a shot of 1800 on the side. It was equally delicious. Our appetizer was really good, I can't remember the name but I would compare it to the blooming onion, on the other hand though we hated the sauce and opted to use ketchup instead. We ordered two roadkills and two chicken critters. Their chicken is amazing!!! So fresh and delicious, I get it almost every time I come. My husband was disappointed that they were out of pulled pork but the road kill was a good substitute. The mashed potatoes were pretty good, they brought me a side of sour cream to go with it. My favorite part are the rolls and butter you get while you wait. That was the main reason I wanted to come. I absolutely love them. Anyone who comes should definitely try them. I enjoy the country fried chicken, country fried steak, Caesar salad and the PRIME RIB. They have some of the best prime rib that I've had at a chain steak house. Oh! I always get incredible service here. No matter who has waited on me, they are always upbeat and good at what they do. The steaks are so full of flavor and cooked to your desired perfection. I like to take lunch on Fridays and sit down here. There usually isn't any wait during lunch either, which I find extremely refreshing. My drink never stays empty, my belly full! My friend and I came here for a girls dinner a few nights ago. The restaurant was very busy so as a server myself, I understand how hard it can be. We had Katelynn as our server and the dinner started out fine. She brought us rolls and drinks and proceeded to take our order. She was being slightly rude and rushing when it came to serving us. Although, we saw her being kind and going out of her way to all of her other tables. The food comes out and my steak is medium rare, when I asked for well done and my friends potato is not loaded when she asked for it to be. So, I set the steak near the end of the table to get it out of my way and she just came by and took it, didn't even ask what was wrong with it etc. I just told her that it was fine and I didn't need a new one. She walked past our table multiple times without checking in on us. She gave us the checks and didn't come back. I had to get up to ask someone for a box as she didn't ask us if we needed any. We were treated HORRIBLY because the staff were ready to go home! Me and my six family members decided to visit this establishment after church service Sunday evening. We were seated around 9:15pm and were told by our server that the kitchen is understaffed so the wait time to serve dinner is roughly 45 mins. Mind you we waited 1 hour for seating and wasn't told this by the hostess. So we asked what menu items would take less time to prepare and he stated that fried foods would be the quickest. We all wanted steak but ordered fried menu items and salads for the sake of time. He took our dinner and drink orders then returned 10 mins later with drinks. Minutes and minutes go by, still no bread, still no check in. 30 mins later he returns with a bad batch of four hard dinner rolls-- remember we're a party of 7- so that left 3 of us without bread to carry over our empty bellies. An hour goes past, still no food!! Another server comes over and says "sorry I'll be taking care of you now since your server went home and I'll try to find more bread (very weird... "try to find"...). So then we asked her about our food and she says let me go check on it and we let her know our dissatisfaction with our service. Our server just went home and didn't say a word, just left us high and dry. At this point we asked to speak to the manager. We expressed to the manager that we were all tired and hungry, the kids were frustrated and hadn't eaten since lunch. The "manager" came over and said "oh I'm sorry I'll go check in the kitchen and get some kids meals out, but I have servers telling me you all would like to cancel." Wait what?! We told her we wanted food NOW and how dissatisfied we were with being bluffed our entire time there as a tactic to get us to leave! I asked for more bread and she says "I'm sorry our bread person left for the night. No more bread." At this point we've had enough. Sitting there for over an hour, no food, not enough bread, no courtesy and compassion from the servers and manager. There was no service recovery or compensation for them treating us like we didn't matter. We finally gave them their wish and left the facility HUNGRY AND ANGRY!! I did have a nice birthday coupon for a free appetizer with a meal and my wife's diet is not restricted so we gave it another try. Appetizer choice was potato skins so we were doing good. We also ordered the Salmon dinners fully expecting to be served rubber fish. We both were super surprised that the Salmon was good and cooked perfect. Nice sized portion as well. Even my doctor would have been pleased at my choices. This is one of our favorite restaurants. However, we unfortunately, had issues at this location tonight with small bits of some foreign matter floating in our glasses of water. So, we asked for fresh glasses and the new glasses also had the mysterious floating debris. We left the glasses at the edge of the table and the waitress, which I believed was the manager in duty, never mentioned them. Loved the food and service. Really found annoying all the birthday announcing and singing which is nearly constant throughout the meal. Does anyone even check these people ID's because no way are they all having birthdays same day. Parking spaces outside are obviously too narrow. Cars parked on my right and left sides around two empty spaces were over the white lines, so I basically had to take the two partial spaces in between them. I had a steak and I ordered it medium well and it came out twice well done and I had to and it back. On the third try it came out just as I had ordered it and was delicious. I was there on December 29, 2022. table of 4 with my parents and Granddaughter. The food took forever and the server never came by to tell us why and they weren't as busy as normal. My granddaughter ordered checkin critters which were dry hard like a rock. we had to ask a different server to send back. my point is our server never said sorry or had manager come out and still charged us for the food.
