Been coming to this restaurant for years best Thai food in my book in the city of Whittier. This food spot is hidden behind 7-11 and in the middle of the complex so it's really a hidden treasure. This trip I ordered combo fried rice, green curry with chicken and white rice, finished with cheese cake. Took my leftovers home and it was devoured, so much for taking it for lunch the next day. The restaurant was the same as usual with very little change to decor but you go here for the food not what you sit on. Hope you enjoy the pictures I posted. Oh what to say.. Since ive worked in this city for the last 9 years, this place has had like 4 different owners...From chinese to japanese, indian to now Thai... Came here cause one of my coworkers loves this place. She says she frequents the place. I used to like the chinese food place that was here before, cause they used to make the best pot stickers. Anyways, enough said, and back to the review. Location is in a bad spot. Its in a tiny strip mall, behind a 7-11.. So would you see this place driving down the street, no...So sad. Good things, as I walked in, the decor was really nice inside, very clean, and sha schwing.."A" right above the door as you walk in. We got seated. The service was very attentive. Food came fast and hot. Now to the food. Started off with the Spicy Seafood Soup (Po-Tak)..+4..could of been a bit more spicy....overall good! Then we ordered: Spicy eggplant with tofu, which had chili's, carrots and basil and some red and green peppers. Mind you, this was my first tofu dish, and was super surprised, that it tasted so good +5 Pa-Nang with chicken (Curry).. This was also very good +5 Overall meal was very good. I recently "discovered" Thai food; have only tried four restaurants so far and this is without a doubt my favorite. The food is awesome, portions are great, very clean and the owner and staff are super-friendly but the best thing about this place is the fact that you get free refills on your Thai Iced Tea! There's only one drawback though...location, location, location. It's right behind a 7-11 and nestled right between a laundromat and a small Hispanic market; feels very claustrophobic...oh and make sure you lock your car...the area has definitely seen better days. read more

I ordered for pickup on yelp for 12 pm, but they finished at 11 and called me to pick it up. Unfortunately, that meant my food would be cold. This isn't the usual Thai food like the ones you would find around the San Gabriel Valley. I noticed the way they cook food is very different. The Pad Thai was for some reason pink instead of orange. The Pad see-ew was rather salty. The chicken satay was actually quite delicious and on point, but it was also a small portion. Service is alright I guess... the guy brought me my soup and the ladel was already in it, had to ask for napkins as well as silverware and sauces... I ordered take out and it was quick, easy and very well prepared for a to go order. They had everything well wrapped and secured and it was a nice temperature when I got home. The pad see ew with tofu was good and I also got the egg flower soup. Don't judge a book by its cover as it is a little hidden gem despite how some of the buildings look around it. The Pad Thai and orange chicken were really good! However, the papaya salad was a miss for me. I didn't like the dressing and plate itself wasn't appealing. It wasn't awful, I just didn't like the combination. My mom really enjoyed the salad though. I also ordered a spicy curry and didn't really like it. The fried wontons were disappointing since 99% of it is fried dough and 1% chicken. The pieces are about the size of a palm but the amount of chicken in them are about the size of your pinky finger nail. I would highly recommend the pad Thai and orange chicken but not the rest. read more

I love thai food like I love Mexican flag but lately this restaurant getting greedy by over charging prices you be charge for full meal but when your meal arrives you ask your self wheres the rest of my meal small plates barely enough but when you see your bill for $13.00 you ask your self wtf It's sad to see this type of changes because thai culture are known for delicious foods but now they are hurting them self I would not return to this place I would have to go to my other thai restaurants where they keep traditions & show love to customers that support their cultures read more

I'm not sure what happened here. I never reviewed Aree Thai, but I've eaten here about 4 or 5 times in the past couple of years. I hadn't been there in about a year, so when it was suggested that we order from Aree for dinner, I said yes. I wish I had said "I'll drive to Siam Buathong and pick it up" instead. I had noticed it had gotten expensive. I can see maybe $8.99 for seafood soup, but $11.99 is WAY too much. The other offerings were in fact $8.99, which would have been worth it if not for what is to come in the following review. I decided to go with the Yum Woon Sen. Aree had yet to let me down with this one, and I was really craving something with glass noodles. I'm not sure what happened here, but what used to be a very lime-filled, spicy delicious plate (and massive) was now smaller, not so citrus-y, and had a kind of funky smell (something about the chicken). I ate a little less than half of it then gave up. I swear that the chicken smelled something akin to a cigarette butt. Also, I asked for the dish with no shrimp, which they complied with, but the price didn't drop.....which would be fine...except that they seem to have thrown a $2.00 delivery fee even though I definitely live within the 3 mile "free delivery" radius. My dad had the Spicy Seafood Soup (po tak) and although I didn't try it, he said it was good...it was indeed spicy, as he kinda choked after the first bite. It looked a little greasy to me, and sometimes his standards aren't quite as high as mine, so I'm going to assume that it was at least mediocre, seeing as how he ate it almost entirely. The worst thing, though, was the Egg Noodle with Wonton and BBQ Pork Soup that my g/f had. Where to begin? I've posted pictures as an aid.....the broth was the only decent thing about it. 1. The BBQ pork was mostly fatty meat, and for BBQ pork it lacked flavor. I've had better from Asian Kitchen on Telegraph (which I believe has changed names yet again). There was an abundance of BBQ pork, but it wasn't great quality at all. It was flat out bad. 2. The Wonton was VERY undercooked. I tried a bite to confirm what my g/f had told me about it, and she was spot on....it was like a dense cakey hard ball. Not up to snuff. 3. The amount of noodles (I've posted a pic) was lacking. We received a box that looked like it was full of noodles, but in reality had some cheap, tiny little egg noodles resting on top of what was mostly a bed of bean sprouts. 4. The soup was cold on arrival. It was not only bad, but cold. The driver wasn't at all late with the delivery, so my assumption is the soup was probably not even on heat and just been thrown into a microwave for less time than it needed. Overall, I've decided to avoid this place in light of much better local offerings from both Siam Buathong and Asian Kitchen (or whatever they are calling themselves these days). If you are craving good Thai in opposition to slop, I suggest doing the same. read more

I live nearby but I have never even thought about stopping by. My family is Mexican therefore don't particularly like trying new foods lol. Now as an adult I love it! I had forgotten there was a Thai place near my house! I have only had Thai food once in my life before coming here so I tried their wonton soup and aree appetizer. I've tried Chinese wonton soup and that has dumplings and noodles. For some reason I expected the same! Their wonton soup has dumplings, carrots, celery, chicken, onion...it was ok. Seriously my favorite Thai place in Whittier. They deliver.... that's five stars in its self. When ordering the orange chicken, I'm always happy they make it with tiny little morsels of chicken bites. Yum! Spicy beef salad dressing is bomb . Stopped by for lunch and came across this spot. Lunch specials for $7.50 are the perfect size. The curry was delicious. Orange chicken was crispy and hot. and just a hint of Orange, not overly sweet or coated in syrupy sauce like some other places. The Pad See Ewe was great with white meat chicken. Major customer service failure. Lunch time is a bit hectic to make it to the restaurant, order, get food, eat it, and make it back in time. In the past, I've been able to call ahead my order and dine in. This made it a quick experience and I made it back to work on time, but able to breathe while eating. Today, not so much. Called ahead, but lady would not take my order and she said just to come in and they'd be quick. I sit, wait, she comes over, I ordered Pad Thai - Fried Tofu lunch special, which should come with a small bowl of soup and an egg roll. After waiting a bit, she brings me a plate with pad thai - chicken, no soup, no egg roll, but the plate had dipping sauce. I attempt flag her back. After she takes orders from another table, one customer from that table told her I was trying to get her attention. She comes back and I tell her I ordered this with tofu and she responds "you cannot eat it?" Ummm, this is not what I ordered nor what I wanted. She takes it back and I wait another 10 minutes. By this point, I've got 15 minutes to eat, pay, and make it back to work. I ask for a to-go box and she gets one from the table next to mine, where those customer's didn't use. Grossed out, but not wanting to cause problems, I packed my food, paid my meal and left. Horrible experience. It's Friday during Let, as as Catholics we abstain from meat. This was the perfect dinner we ordered for take out. Plenty for the four of us plus leftovers of one container of Pad Thai, and a box of steamed rice. We ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, Spicy Thai Shrimp Soup with Lemongrass, Walnut Prawns, and rice.
