Great to go place for Thai food. Fast service. Although quantity is reduced these days.

Thai basil is my favorite local Thai place. The food is already fresh and hits the spot. I have a nut allergy and usually Thai restaurants give me a lot of anxiety because peanuts are abound in the cuisine. But I've never had a cross-contamination issue with this place. I come here so often that the waitresses always double-check with me to not put peanuts, when I forget to ask them. Also really great price for the amount of food that you get! read more

Thai Basil Express is affordable and convenient with consistently delicious food - even approved by my guests from Thailand! Located less than 5 minutes off the freeway, it's the perfect place to pickup dinner to-go, especially considering that the small dining room fills up quickly. That being said, the only delay is that parking can be hard to come by since this shopping center is filled with so many popular businesses. Small hole-in-the-wall thai place tucked away on the first floor in the Ulferts Center. They have a parking lot but it can be tight considering how many businesses there are in a small area. If you go here outside of the Bank of America hours you can park in the BofA spaces. Came here this weekend for dinner and it was pretty busy. There are only about 10 tables in the small dining space so be prepared to wait. We were standing in the middle of the dining room (that's the only place where you can stand if you're not at a table) with waitresses buzzing by us and didn't know how to add ourselves to the waiting list. Finally, a waitress told us we couldn't stand there, and when we asked her how to get a table, she said to put our names on a list by the cash register. When we got to the cash register, we didn't see anything on the counter. Finally, the cashier pointed to a small notepad on a ledge near some dishes, and that's where we wrote down our names. Luckily we didn't have to wait long to get a table - they turn tables around quickly! We ordered our food and that surprisingly came quickly as well: - Woon Sen Pad Thai - just okay, I would have preferred to get traditional pad thai - Basil Chili Catfish - this was amazing. If you like spicy and you like fish, this is delicious - it's like a hybrid delicious crispy and saucy/soggy goodness) - Tom-Yum Chicken Soup - just okay, not amazing but not bad. - Thai iced tea - sweet and creamy and dreamy When we started to slow down our eating, our waitress came over and asked if there was anything else we needed. We said we would like to order their banana dessert. She replied, "Sorry, we don't do that." When we replied, oh okay, do you have any ice cream or anything? She replied, "Well no, we're not serving dessert. The kitchen is too busy." Wait - what? It's not like they were out of ingredients, or they ran out of something - but your kitchen is too busy and you don't want to serve dessert? I guess as a small business they would rather forego adding a $5-7 dessert to a bill and turn over the table in pursuit of quickly seating another couple who could spend $25+. Not a great experience. After we admitted defeat and just asked for the bill and to-go boxes, we quickly received the bill, our to-go containers, and they suddenly started cleaning our table - taking all the silverware. By the time we noticed, they had already gone, so we just poured the soup straight into the to-go container. The noodles (we had barely eaten them - just okay, remember?) could barely fit into the small to-go container they gave us (imagine trying to fit a full plate of noodles into a cake slice box). Instead of asking us if we needed help or giving us different containers, they were just hovering over us, waiting for us to leave to turn the table over. Overall, just a really fast, strange experience. Random notes: - If you arrive and all the tables are taken up, put your name on a list by the cash register and wait outside. There's a full menu taped to the window for you to look at. - You can't use a credit card if your bill is $15 or less, so bring some cash just in case. - The place is really small, so it's not good for groups. Really 3.5 but they were super nice, portions super huge. Pad thai was more gravyish but the noodle was perfectly al dente and had fresh bean sprouts and some ground peanut and tiny cubes of tofu, and lots of chicken. Lots of tables had fried rice. Thai Soup might be bland for some but i like bland. It came with a tiny cup of chili sauce to spice it up. The table mate does not like spicy. This meal was reasonably priced. My bf and I visit this place everytime we come to Dublin because it's so good. It tastes authentic. I love that they use Thai basil a lot as well. Food is delicious, the curry is rich and tasty. The service is great too. Thai iced tea is on point. My only complaint is that I wish the restaurant was bigger. Seating is a little cramped at times but that's because it's always full! I was craving Thai food and this place did the trick. No, it's not the most amazing Thai food I've ever had, but I would definitely come back if the cravings get me again. Our go to thai place for almost 7 years now!!! The best thai in the tri valley for sure. We always get their spicy basil fried rice and it's delicious. They have online ordering now on their website and they wear masks, have space when people are inside and gloves on as well for covid measures. This is one of the only restaurants we feel comfortable getting food from during this time. WOW. HORRIBLE SERVICE. THE WORST. I placed an order for pick up. My meal was vegetarian with tofu. When I got home I realized they made it with chicken. Called to get a correction / reimbursement. When I explained the situation to the young man that answered, he didn't even respond. Then I prompted him a further explanation of I should get reimbursed and a new meal ordered. He told me they were too busy to deal with this and I need to call back later. Then I could over hear him talking to someone and was told I could just keep the chicken dish. I explained that I'm a vegetarian and can't eat it and will now have nothing for dinner. Again he told me he couldn't help me. Couldn't even correct my order! Then he hung up on me. Don't get me wrong, this place has good food, but I have never been treated so horribly by a restaurant, especially one that has clearly made a mistake. Dictionary.com has quite a few definitions for the word "express," but after having dinner with two friends here, I think the best fit is: express (adjective) direct or fast, especially making few or no intermediate stops (i.e. an express train; an express elevator) Thai Basil Express is a small restaurant on the first floor of the Ulferts Center with sparse furnishings and decorations. The menu, however, is quite extensive, and they seem to have dishes that veer into other cuisines (i.e. Chinese, etc.). This place seems to be busy no matter what time of day, so my friends and I really lucked out when we got a table for three right after walking in. Not too long after we were seated, the other open tables filled up and a line formed. One waitress gave us menus, and then asked if we wanted hot water, ice water, or something else to drink. Given the weather, most of us ordered hot water and didn't opt for the usual Thai tea or coconut drink. We weren't ready to order when she came back with the water, but the other waitress handling the dining area came by soon afterward and took our order. In the time it took for just one of us to share our personal updates, the food began to arrive. Here's what we got: *pork pad kee mow - rice noodles stir-fried with onion, egg, bell pepper, bean sprouts, basil, and chili - 9.25 ^ this has a little chili sign next to it on the menu and my friends and I did think it was spicy. It was kind of unpleasant for me, but my friends love spicy food and thought it was perfect. If I was by myself, I probably wouldn't order it again. *yellow curry chicken - potatoes, carrots & onion simmered in coconut milk & yellow curry - 9.45 ^ really solid yellow curry dish chock full of large chunks of chicken and potatoes *green been beef - beef sauteed with green beans and house curry paste - 10.45 ^ this dish also has a little chili sign next to it, but it wasn't spicy at all. I like the crunchiness of the green beans, but found the house curry paste sauce to be a little too salty I'm not in Dublin a lot, but I would consider this my go-to Thai place (in Danville it's Similan Thai Cuisine). The prices are really reasonable, the food is good, and while parking in the front lot might be a pain, there's a ton of parking near the business park in the back. The next time I'm back, I'd like to try their black sticky rice with coconut milk dessert. I was a little disappointed that they don't have the classic mango with coconut milk sticky rice on their menu, but there is a bakery and other dessert spots nearby. One small point I will harp on is that they definitely are an "express" place. Almost immediately after we finished our food and were settling down to talk some more, we were given the check. After we paid, the waitress asked us if we needed anything else. I applaud her for not outright asking us to leave that first time around, but the second time she came around to our table she pointed at other customers waiting and asked if we could free up the table. Having worked at a restaurant in high school, I completely understood her desire to get hungry customers to the table, but as a diner, I made a mental note to pick a different restaurant the next time I wanted to catch-up with friends. Please do keep this in mind if you decide to drop by. If you do end up coming here, be prepared to be ushered out when you're done, and to pick-up on your conversation at the nearby Snowflake or some other boba spot afterward. read more

My experience here was very memorable....right in the middle of dinner, this couple stole another woman's wallet out of her purse and the whole restaurant ran out to save it! Talk about teamwork...and the lady got it back Hooray! Luckily the restaurant got it on camera....I hope they press charges against these losers. Who would have thought that Dublin got so ghetto! Anyways....on to my dining experience. I thought the service was a bit slow too but it actually got better as our dinner experienced progressed and it slowed down. Took a while for the nice young lady to take our order but food came out quickly. She was the only one waiting on the whole restaurant and there was about 6 tables occupied. Food was ok. Anyone who thinks this is the best Thai food they have ever had had, never had Thai food before. Definitely have had much better in the South Bay and in Thailand. To start off we ordered Thai fried eggrolls and they were pretty good. I ordered the Pad see-Ew and Ew is right...worst Pad see-ew I have ever had. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great...bland and boring. My Mom ordered the pumpkin curry with pork and it was VERY good and flavorful. Some of the pumpkin pieces were undercooked and not soft but it was still very good. I'm glad we ordered that because I barely touched the Pad see-ew. Price was reasonable for what we got but I have had Thai much better elsewhere. Not too bad for a Thai place, but not my favorite. Food. In general, most of their food is pretty good. Portions are large enough to share or for a 2nd meal. You can't go wrong with the curries here. -Tom Yum Noodle Soup: prefer it with egg noodle. Broth isn't spicy, but sweeter than what I'm used to for Tom Yum. Needs the fish sauce haha (if they even use that in there). -Basil Chili Chicken: yum yum yum!!! One of my new favorites. I always ask for it to be extra spicy! -Pineapple fried rice: another great dish! Wish there were more cashews and pineapples though. -Drunken Noodle: Pad Kee Mow: I've had better at other Thai restaurants. Overload on the bean sprouts, not enough noodles. Yes, I like my carbs. -Roti & Curry: NOT A FAN! The curry tastes great, it's the Roti that I do not like. First off, it tastes like butter. I've had tons of roti and I know it normally does not taste like this. The roti is too thick as well, kind of chewy. I prefer roti to be light and airy. -Papaya Salad (Som Tum) - It's ok, but again have had better. The sauce they put over it is too sweet. It tastes like the same sauce that comes with chicken satay with the cucumbers and onions in it. The papaya salads I've had tend to have more lemon/lime/fish sauce/garlic/chili taste. Tangy & savory. -Pumpkin curry: one of my favorites!! -Thai Iced Tea: can't go wrong with this one! I will say it is very busy for lunch/dinner though, so be prepared, or order to go! :) As for service, when they are not busy, it's great. When they are busy you will have to do the hand wave to get them to come over and you may even have to do it more than once b/c they have often forgot things I have asked for. Finally: my water is always full. I can appreciate that. :) Update: Curry Noodle Soup: just tried this! All around not a bad dish, a little sweet for my taste. I love fish sauce, that must be the Viet in me haha. If you get this you might need to ask for more broth.
