Trying Thai food for the first time and must say was impressed by the cuisine and the restaurant. The ambiance was neat and simple and the food option were plenty. Staff was courteous and service was quick. Tried the sampling platter, Veg pot sticks, basil seafood, Salmon ho mog, fried rice. All the dishes were flavorful and quantity was generous. Thai Garden delivers some of traditional Thai flavors consistently. It's nothing special but is a nice place to have a team lunch. I've had a couple of coconut curries here. They're all right. It's certainly spicy but the ingredients largely stand apart from each other; the veggies are quite crunchy but I don't recall them being seasoned on their own. The rice is pretty average as well, although I think they have brown rice available. On this plus side, lunch is only about $10, which is a bargain for a sit-down place. read more

My wife is Thai and we have been eating at Thai Restaurants in Chicago for the last forty years. This place is a rip-off. We went there with our Son, ordered three entrees and three appetizers, a beer, and a watered down mixed drink and walked out the door with a $120 tab plus the $25 tip we gave to the waitress. Afterwards we asked ourselves- did that really happen? Sadly we have been ordering for years and will no longer. We ordered 5 Pad Thai lunch specials as we normally do. It was 11:45 am. Instead they charged us for 5 dinners without egg rolls and insisted we ordered dinners. I said we want to pick up our egg rolls and the very rude lady said "no I asked you if you wanted the dinners" This is flat out not true and instead of apologizing, she very rudely said too bad! I told her we were sorry we could not order from them anymore and she said OK Good! Long time customer will now find a new restaurant. I've never tried their food before and man, I should have. I have the veggie curry and it was perfect. Lots of fresh vegetables with not too heavy of a sauce. It was very good. My fiance and I tried Thai Garden for the first time last week. Coming from the city, they are on par with local thai restaurants - lots of flavor, the food tasted fresh and the staff was very accommodating (and kind!) about vegan dietary needs, which is not often the case for suburban restaurants. My butt. My butt. My butt is on fire. I don't need no water let that motherf*cker burn. Seriously spicy. Like, they're not f*cking around and you need to have your god damn game face on. As a practically professional heat-seeker, I always opt for the highest spice level at restaurants and then on top of that I ask for it extra, extra whatever that spice number is. Today, I met my motherf*cking match. I frequent the Korean CoffeeHaus just a few doors down from Thai Garden (Duchess status, yo!) but had yet to make it in to Thai Garden because my usual CoffeeHaus date has some sort of inexplicable beef with them. So for the past year I just drooled as I looked across the parking at Thai Garden and thought about all that spicy basil tofu going uneaten by me. Today, I decided to take the necessary steps to go forth with my personal goal to get some Thai Garden in my gubby, despite the (IMO unwarranted) badmouthing by my coffee mate. I dined alone, which has become the norm for me since my boo hates going out to eat (weird, right?) and I usually eat at off hours so when I say that I dine alone, I mean I'm almost always the only one in the restaurant who isn't employed by said establishment. I don't mind eating alone and for the most part, I enjoy doing most things in life by myself just because I know it won't involve any sort of compromise on my part. Seeing movies, going shopping, exercising, etc-- Lone wolf status is how I like to play it, but today, well... today I wished I'd gone in with some sort of buddy system after getting a taste of Thai Garden's spice level. I could have used a friend to coach me through my nose running into my mouth and my lips burning and swelling from the heat but because of my hermit habits, I was left sitting in an empty restaurant with my face on fire, envisioning how badly my butt was going to pay later for what my mouth was feeling now, but I still tried to play it off like a man while mentally chanting a monk-style mantra to get me through the pain. *** Don't ask for milk. Don't ask for water. Don't ask for anything. Don't be a p*ssy. Work through the pain. You don't need a second napkin. Just hold the rice in your mouth. Breath. Cornucopia of calm. Feed the spicy stuff to the back of your throat. Don't show the waitress your weakness. Stay golden, PonyBoy. Power through. *** I made it about a third of the way through my absolutely GIANT extra, extra spicy basil w/tofu dish before I asked for a box. I think I did pretty well considering I'd started with a bowl of Tom Yum soup with tofu as well. The soup was delicious and as a person who is pretty much addicted to lemongrass, I would say the flavor of Thai Garden's tom yum was one of my favorites, though I do wish the portion was a bit bigger. And again, that spicier-than-a-motherf*cker basil w/ tofu was a giant-ass dish. Defo enough for 2.5 meals. My one critique for the spicy basil would be that the tofu was cut in long strips about 1-inch by 2.5-inches and was awkward to eat and wouldn't cut well with just a fork like at most places, also, I love to be able to pour or scoop some of the juice from the dish onto the rice, but the way theirs was plated made it very difficult, at time making the dish taste a bit drier than I like. Overall I'd say that both my dishes were good, though beyond the spice level of the basil dish, there wasn't anything that I'm ready totally gush about. But again, I got to give it up to them for having the balls to spice a dish up like that for an unfamiliar to them gringo. Normally when I ask for the crazy spices restaurants take one look at this pale white girl and give me some sissy sh*t, so I LOVED that Thai Garden stepped it up and set my ass on fire. This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful that I get to work from home on the day after eating at Thai Garden. The 'Ocupado' sign on my bathroom door will be working overtime tomorrow while my butt plays the crying game. read more

Ready for a shocking confession? Once upon a time, I was a vegetarian. I know! Me! The bacon czar! And not just a vegetarian, but a hard core one: no stocks, no pastes, ideally nothing made on a surface that meat was also prepared. Yep. Then I woke up after my four year meat nap, gave in to an insane craving and ate some buffalo chicken wings and sushi. It was over, I was happily off that wagon. Despite the decent into meat Hades, one thing remained: I only eat my Thai food with tofu. Without chicken or beef, the flavors of the curry and fresh ingredients are perfectly preserved. Thai Garden is a wonderful way to revisit the kinder, gentler Penny of days long past. There is so much good there, I'll list for you but a few to try when you go: Panang, Massaman, tofu satay, crunchy tofu with peanut sauce, spring rolls, red curry, yellow curry... actually, it's all delicious. Thai food in the NW suburbs really can't be compared to the city. With that in mind...I have two criteria in which I judge a Thai restaurant. Their Pad Thai and how they prepare their Chicken Basil or Pad Pad Prig. I didn't care for their Pad Thai. Their noodles were too dry, and too ketchupy for my taste. Now their chicken...perfect, because I prefer my meat ground. The sauce, the Thai peppers, basil, etc were in perfect harmony. We also ordered their vegetarian spring rolls, pot stickers, and Ginger Beef. Not crazy about the appetizers, but the Ginger Beef had a nice sauce and shredded ginger. Just had lunch at Thai Garden and can't help but rave about this place. First of all the service is incredibly fast and the service is outstanding. We ordered the Panang tofu lunch, spicy tofu lunch, and pad Thai lunch. The lunch specials are $7.75 each and they come with rice, egg roll, and soup..... An AMAZING bargain. They huge a huge quantity of food leaving you thoroughly satisfied at the conclusion of your meal. As far as taste..... I was blown away by the spicy tofu lunch special. It was spicy, light, and had a wonderful combination of vegs and flavor. The tofu was well marinated and sautéed perfectly. The Panang curry had a light coconut cream sauce that was also wonderful. Overall the service and food were excellent. They constantly checked on us keeping drinks topped off and kept the table clear. On top of that....the food was awesome. Thai Garden and I have a strong emotional connection. Many enjoyable family gatherings, quiet dinners, and take-out meals have bonded us for life. Veggie egg rolls, tom kha soup, fried rice (pineapple or plain old, both are delightful). All my favorites. We used to live within waking distance, and this was our go-to meal. In the weeks after my son was born, it was all I wanted to eat. We have since moved out of the area, and we can't find a replacement for our dear Thai Garden. Waaa. So we go whenever we're around. The biggest ding I can think of is that they don't accept AmEx. Their bubble tea is also nothing to write home about. But neither of these factors dim the shining star that is Thai Garden. read more

Ok...so got our food in SIX MINUTES from ordering. Ain't that amazing?! SIX MINUTES!!! And that's where it sorta stalls a bit: The "Tom Yum" soup was Tom Not So Yum and my lunch pal and I could not figure out what that funky flavor was in the backs of our throats. My guess was fish. PASS!! For an appetizer I had the pork pot stickers and they were quite good, especially liked the crispy edges. We tried the lunch specials and my entree was only $6.75 (or something like that) and we all know how me loves cheap eats! For my lunch I tried the Panang Chicken which I have heard was "famous" on Yelp (and oddly from the monotone waitress herself) and it was tasty - but I wouldn't exactly call it famous. I did enjoy the spicy coconut curry flavors and the tender chicken pieces and the portion was HUGE. My friend had the Chicken Pad Thai and it was tasty as well. After we finished eating and got the check we kinda just...well...SAT THERE! No one came by anymore and I think our waitress went on break!! Then suddenly a passing waitress just swooped in and took our checks/credit cards and kept moving. She coulda been jacking us for all we know!!! Anyway, swiping our cards took forever and then another random waiter came and returned the checks/credit cards for us to sign. Did I mention our huge portions? Well, yeah. Kinda needed a take-home box!! Again, no one mentioned anything so my friend grabbed the random waiter dude before he disappeared into the fog and asked if he could set us up. JEEZ! I've Tried (my review in parentheses) - Penang Curry (3/10) - Matsaman Curry (7/10) - Tom Kha Soup (8/10) - Spring Rolls (4/10) For many years since college, when people have asked me if I've tried Thai food, I'd confidently proclaim, "Of course!" But then they'd proceed to say, "OMG you need to try XYZ restaurant because they have the best ABC!" Then I'd shrink away and realize, that only ordering Pad Thai/Seeyoo doesn't really count as "trying Thai food." So one random day a buddy of mine says we should eat, and being totally random, we decide on a Thai place. We went an I ordered a Penang Curry and loved it! And that started my recent Thai craze! Anticlimactically, that first wasn't Thai Garden...but anyway... That Penang Curry was just so delicious at the other place (Dan Thai), and I wanted to try out other Thai places. I was watching the Bears beat the Packers on MNF and realized that all day while watching football, I hadn't eaten anything! So, I ordered a Penang Curry and Tom Kha to go EXTRA SPICY and picked it up during an uninteresting Packers drive. I was so excited on the way home, because I could just smell the goodness! TOM KHA (Chicken) This was just amazing! The soup was so freaking good, and had a little bit of kick to it that just made it so refreshing! It was packed with flavor, but not too much, and the tomatoes were just perfectly ripe to go with the rest of the soup. The chicken wasn't too dry, but even if it were, it's soup, so it'd have been ok. My only gripe about this was that I ordered EXTRA SPICY! If anyone's seen me eat 554, they know that I like spicy, and this was just above "Mild" at best. If they were to make it real spicy, this'd be a 10 PENANG CURRY Sigh...It was terrible! Ok, the curry sauce itself was pretty decent, but all the ingredients were just so...bleh. I've had my fair share of Penang before and since this place and they've never looked like this. It was basically Penang Cole Slaw. There was cabbage in here (didn't know it's supposed to be) and so saturated with onions that it really felt like an onion salad or coleslaw! Needless to say, I took a few bites dodging the slaw, and at the end there was just a mound of it. Again, sauce was good, but I'd never order this again. Oh, and I got Extra Spicy and it wasn't...sigh. MASAMAN CURRY On a different day, I went inside to eat and ordered the Masaman, which has a very similar curry sauce like Penang, but has potatoes and meat. Now THIS is what I was looking for! Again I ordered EXTRA SPICY and didn't get it. The curry sauce was so good and packed with aromatic flavor! The thickness of the sauce was perfect too, and it was piping hot (temperature) so mixing a little rice in was just fantastic! However...loses points for not being spicy. Also, the potatoes weren't fully cooked, so I avoided those. I just had sauce and chicken and it was good enough for me! SPRING ROLLS I hate mint! Mint is good in chocolate, ice cream, and candy, but in 0 other foods. My tastebuds feel that it violently clashes with anything else you try to mix it with, and these rolls had them and a lot of it. I thought I was gonna hurl! I took out the mint and the sauce they give you with it was a lot sweeter than sour. They were ok without the mint, but because my tastebuds were already nonconsensually violated by that mint, I just didn't really have interest in the Spring Rolls anymore. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY! For the Tom Kha first and Masaman second. Next time I'll see if they understand "Super Atomic Spicy!" read more

I've lived in Schaumburg my whole life (not sure if that's something to be proud of or embarrassed by...) and this is without a doubt my family's favorite Thai restaurant in the area. The staff always recognize us when we come in. I will admit, the service can sometimes be unpredictable here, it has fluctuated through the years. Sometimes it takes a little too long for the food to come out. But in my opinion, I'm able to overlook that from time to time because the food is SO delicious. Our favorites at Thai Garden include the Tom Kha soup (with or without chicken), Panang Curry, Garlic Chicken, Garlic Tofu, Chicken Satays, Popeye Tofu, Pineapple Fried Rice, and /of course/, the Pad Thai. My mom swears by their Pad Thai, and has never found the dish anywhere else that could compare. Thai Garden is also great for lunch. Their lunch specials are really reasonable, and come with a lot of food. You get soup and an eggroll in addition to the dish of your choice served with fried or white rice. A very good deal. I will agree with other reviews that say the service is "meh" at times, but the food is so delicious and reasonably priced, it's worth it. read more

I stopped in at Thai Garden for lunch today. My waitress was so-so. I asked her a couple of questions and she didn't seem to want to be bothered. I told her twice I would like the yellow curry and she kept saying something to me I didn't understand. I looked at the menu and pointed and said 'I'm sorry?' Again! She was saying 'Penang'. I have no idea why because she fully understood me asking for the yellow chicken curry. As for my dish...sorta tasty but where's the chicken? It was mostly very thin sauce. There were 3 small pieces of potato in it too. Sad. I will always follow the rule my Asian friends have suggested when it comes to a good Asian restaurant...LOOK for Asians eating there! Time and time again we find ourselves coming to this friendly restaurant. The ambiance is quaint and the staff is super friendly. The food is consistently delicious. From the appetizers, the soups, the entrees. We usually have the tom-yum soup, and appetizer samples, the currys, and the Pathai. The carry a variety of beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I'm not Thai, so I won't speak of authenticity, but I really like the food here. I did like the pad thai, which is my test dish for Asian restaurants. The Thai Garden got the A. The only problem is that I can throw a rock at the Happy Elephant from my house and it's better than the Thai Garden, so we don't come here anymore. I think Thai food is so innovative. For example, the red curry and coconut milk is a very interesting match. My wife and I agree that out of the Asian cuisines, Thai food is our favorite. I think the Thai Garden is a great value for the quality of food. It is in a strip mall and the setting is very casual, but I'm fine w/ it b/c the food is excellent. This is a gem of a restaurant tucked into a nondescript strip mall. We had a hard time finding it but thankful that we didn't give up. The interior is top notch, excellent decoration, very clean and the furniture/booths are well organized. From first impression you can feel that it's well managed. But even this won't matter if the food/service isn't any good. Thankfully, Thai Garden excels on both accounts. We were coming in for a late dinner and didn't have any problem getting seated. Service staff was quick, efficient and courteous. A couple people in my group didn't know what they wanted and the waitress was able to recommend a dish my friends ended up liking a lot. I was pleased to see that the waitress did indeed ask for the desired spiciness of the food. Some places you might forget to ask only to be served food too spicy to eat or too dull to enjoy. I ordered medium spice and thats exactly what i got. So, onto the food: Awesome! I'm no connoisseur of thai, but i've had a variety of dishes from different restaurants so i know what to expect. Here the portions were large [easy 1.5 meals for big eaters, 2 for smaller stomachs]. I ordered the "famous" panang curry and I can see why. Very tasty with plenty of meat, veggies and sauce. The quality of the ingredients are very good as well. To top it all off they give you a ton of rice served in a decorative bowl/dish. My friends were satisfied with their dishes and pleased with the quantity given. Prices are very reasonable, typical curry/noodle dishes will run you $9~$12 + tax/tip. The Menu itself is HUGE, so many options it can bewilder those unfamiliar to thai cuisine. If you live in the area, definately check it out. It was like an oasis in a frozen tundra landscape...one of my favorite memories of this restaurant was when we came here after driving 40 miles from Midway after picking up my sister-in-law with my wife, and ended up ordering almost half the menu. This place may not be tops as far as making the best pad thai, or spicy basil chicken , but I think they do a good enough job at everything to earn themselves 3 stars. Today we got the usual - Shrimp roll app, extra spicy pad thai chicken for me, extra spicy basil chicken(sliced not ground) for Mel, and ordered the spicy chicken fried rice as an extra, just because. When I got home, the first thing I saw was the clear top of the container of fried rice, which had ground chicken on top of it. Almost flipped my lid, because I thought they put ground chicken into my wifes dish.(I hate that more than she does). But I called and asked them to describe the fried rice's appearance, and that was what they gave me, apparently. Turned out to be pretty good, it just didn't look like was I expected One thing my wife noticed when I got home from ordering out was that on the receipt my name was spelled Keigh. Their curries are not as bad as the noodles but still, they need to work on the quantity. I believe the food here is not worth the amount you spend. Par for the course. I've only gone for lunch and their menu seemed pretty generic. I felt like they had some sauces in the back, mixed them with different meats, slapped it on a plate,and gave it to you, without a lot of love or thought. Went here for dinner. I had curry for the first time here, and I really liked it. The place is a little divey looking for still cool. Service was good, no complaints there. I tried the yellow curry with chicken. It's a little spicy but nothing I couldn't handle. I really liked it, its not something I had ever had so it was a good experience. However, through my charm and refreshing personality (I begged) the waitress asked the cook to use their LAST remaining fresh Thai chilies to smother my beef salad with stomach churning, sweat inducing, lip smacking heatness. the salad could have been a little more saucy, and the beef slices could have been cooked more to the medium than the well side. Embraced my white-side and had a crab rangoon appetizer - blaaahhh, how does anyone enjoy cream cheese. I keep wanting to try that Chang Thai beer, but can't get myself to move from Singha.. Great lunch place. The restaurant is in a convenient location in the center of Schaumburg. They serve very affordable lunch dishes. The food is very clean they will give you the option of having your lunch steamed or fried both are very good. The mango drink I ordered was fresh and delicious. I plan on coming here again the seating is comfortable and the service is acceptable. I have not dined here other than for lunch. Thai Garden looks unassuming in the strip mall, but that just means it's a hidden gem. The decor is typical of most Thai restaurants I've been; we felt comfortable here. The menu is extensive, covering any type of meat or flavor you would want in Thai food. I had such a hard time deciding, nearly choosing to blindly land my finger on any choice. Luckily, I thought it through and ordered the Basil Tofu. I wish I had gotten broccoli to replace the onions and peppers, and I hoped for more sauce to dredge my rice in. However! This was a great dish with fantastic basil-y flavor. I was perfectly pleased to scarf this down. My sister got one of the house specials with salmon (forgot the name), which was really great as well. I would definitely go back here next time I find myself out at Woodfield Mall. I think there's curry in my future. My only negative, which is more of a comment than a complaint, is that the portions are smaller than I'm used to at a Thai restaurant, though the prices are the same. I was skeptical about trying Thai food in a pizza town and being from CA I just assumed we had the best Asian joints. I was so wrong, this is the best Thai food I've had in years. Not fancy gourmet style, doesn't look so beautiful, but it's "shovel into your mouth repeatedly CRAVABLE".
