We love this place. We have been coming here for years. They have some of our favorite Thai food, and the curries and other dishes are pretty excellent. Our three favorite dishes are the spicy chicken fried noodles, which has ground chicken, the panang noodles with chicken and the pad woonsen with beef, however we often substitute pad thai, because it is great. Honestly the other dishes we have tried are always good, these are juat the best. Good crispy wgg rolls, crab rangoon and tom ka soups too. Now the servers are not the most outgoing. Im not sure their english is great. But we have never had a problem with them, other than them not offering to take a drink order when you arrive, or ever. You pretty much have to ask. But ask because the thai iced tea is good too. read more

I hosted a vegan meetup here recently with 9-10 people. We called again and were set up in the back corner so we had privacy to. The waitress was very helpful in helping us with the menu. We all got an assortment of food but the most popular menu items were tofu pad Thai - some of the best I've ever had, mango tofu and garlic tofu. I decided to try this place based on the Yelp reviews and the menu. I just don't see how it got any 4/5 star ratings. I went with my sister and daughter. None of us enjoyed any part of the meal. I ordered spring rolls, I got a rice wrap with spaghetti noodles, cucumber and some dried out cilantro. Then I went for a favorite, mee krob. Whatever I was served was not mee krob. It was a very small order for the price and it didn't matter because it was too salty to eat. My sister had cashew chicken. It was mostly baby corn with a few pieces of what looked to be slices of chicken roll or deli chicken. My daughter ordered beef with vegetables, again, baby corn and very little beef. Dinner for three was about $60 and the majority of it was disgusting and inedible. I do not recommend this place at all. We would have been better off getting frozen Thai dinners from the grocery store. read more

That menu card reminded me that I was here before. It always reminds me of a history book. Lol. Such a detailed menu book. We were 5 at the table. And the order was 1. A big soup of chicken Tom Yum soup- similar to a Thai curry. A little thinner. Had some mushrooms and onions. 2. Crab rangoons - 6 small sweet and crispy pieces were served with a sweet chilly sauce. It's our standard order. We love them. 3. Fish cakes - 3 pieces were served with the same sauce. It was yummy. 4. Pad Thai noodles- chicken- yummy 5. Red curry - shrimp- no difference to the next curry. Served with rice. 6. Penang curry- shrimp- no prominent difference to the previous curry. One served in a plate and other in a bowl. Served with rice in the same container. 7. Basil fried rice- chicken- I didn't like it much. Think sticky rice. And chicken looks like scrambled eggs. We got a lot of leftovers packed into to-go boxes. They server took our plates and packed them into boxes and placed them into a brown bag. Good ambience- windows and walls with bamboo curtains. A great family dinner, especially or Father's Day this year!! And SO GLAD we did!! Busy as usual but waiting for only a few minutes to be cleared and seated. Big family with grandparents totaled 8 of us and still very nicely seated with enough room and a big table for all the great food! Tom Kha Soup with chicken was such a great call- the chicken and vegetables were AMAZING and FRESH! Honestly the freshest chicken I've tasted in any Thai restaurant. The spring rolls were very fresh too as well as the beef satay that finished the apps. Pad Thai is a must, along with Massuman curry and Panang noodles. But the Basil Mussels caught my eye this time around. Great choice! Good amount of veggies and sauce. Spicy beef along with a seafood dish accompanied the carbs very, very well. Everybody got a huge portion of everything and were already stuffed- before dessert! Sticky rice was great!!! And you can have any kind of ice cream flavor on top! So many choices! (that's rare for Thai places!) we tried green tea and jackfruit and mango.... Along with the Thai custard was delicious. And don't forget the Thai herbal hot tea to finish off. After this whole dinner, the part that really was the cherry on top was talking to the owner Tom. What a great guy. A nice family business with genuine owners that spend their life at work. Nice to see the quality control and very good customer service. He stopped by the table to see how the food was and ended up talking about everything!! This place was really great! We'll be back! My friend and I go to a lot of Thai restaurants in the NW SUBURBS. we always order crab rangoons as an appetizer. Theirs had the best "crust" ever! Light, not oily, very crisp and beautifully shaped. My entree, basil chicken was delicious. Ground chicken, basil, onions, peppers and straw mushrooms. It could have been a tad spicier - next time I'll say hot not medium hot. We rarely get dessert but we got "baby bananas with chocolate sauce" - SO good. Kind of like a banana cannoli! Really delicious. The server was attentive. The atmosphere was pleasant though not exceptional. We split the Bill - it was $23 each (we each had tea as well). Most excellent! read more

For all the Thai restaurants around the suburban area, this is our favorite place to go. I can't believe I haven't given my review for this establishment, maybe subconsciously I don't want the whole world to know about how good the food taste here, LOL! Thai Garden is located within a strip mall so there's plenty of parking. I've been going here for years and when we try out new Thai places, we compare our dishes with this place. When you go into the restaurant, it's a pretty good size. There are some sections of the place that are divided with half walls. It's pretty cozy with booths and tables, even for a big group they are so accommodating and they have a very nice staff. One time I had my GNO (Girls Night Out) here and they put us chatty gals in the back of the room so it felt like we had our own private room, so nice of them. The dishes are served like family style, enough to share and have leftovers. Unless you brought a BIG appetite It does get busy during the lunch rush hours and weekends, so I usually come here for dinner during the week. So here are the dishes we usually order again and again... We start off with a tall glass of Thai iced coffee or Thai iced tea which both is sweet and creamy. For appetizers, we order their fresh Spring Rolls which is steamed soft rice paper rolled with rice noodles, fresh cucumbers, basils, cilantro, and bean sprouts. You get 3 pcs with hoisin sauce on the side which includes crush peanuts. Sometimes I order a small Tom Yum Chicken soup which is a traditional Thai lemon grass soup (spicy and sour) with chicken, straw mushrooms, and tomatoes. It's a good alternative of the old fashion Chicken Soup if you're under the weather. I highly recommend if you make this as your main meal, ask for a large with noodles (thin noodles like pad Thai) which makes this a spicy chicken noodle soup, good stuff sniff, sniff! For our main meals, we order Curry Fried Rice combinations with chicken and shrimp. It's one of their chef's special fried rice with yellow curry sauce, coconut milk, eggs, onions and carrots so good. For a noodle dish, I'd order Beef or Chicken/Shrimp Pad Thai. It's a platter of delicious thin rice noodles stirred in their homemade sweet and tangy Pad Thai sauce, with eggs, ground peanut, fresh bean sprouts, and green onions. If I wanted a little bit of heat, I would ask the server to get me some Thai chili sauce which comes in a little container that you can see the red sauce and pepper seeds with a little spoon making my Pad Thai sweet and spicy My husband's favorite dish which he can't find it made like this anywhere! It's a traditional Thai yellow curry blended with coconut milk, potatoes and onions with chicken or a combo chicken/shrimp. It comes with a side of white rice. Another dish my friend introduced me (I'd order this when I'm in the mood to eat with my hands) is called Larb Kai. It's a made with ground chicken breast seasoned with lime juice, onions, Thai herbs and spices. It's so good to eat this with an order of Sticky Rice. With cleaned hands, I would take some sticky rice and roll it into a size of a golf ball and eat some of the Larb Kai the then the sticky rice ball I created, and then repeat. Of course you can use a spoon and fork but it's more fun using what God gave you, natural utensils...your hands and fingers, lol! Overall, if you want good authentic Thai food come here, you won't be disappointed at this place! read more

I usually come here and can never finish my plate and look forward to left overs! I came with a group of friends this time and they all got the same dish but different meats, and I think they might of given me the last bit of the noodles or something bc all of their plates were still pretty full after mine was already half done and my plate looked pretty empty compared to there's too before eating.... This was my third Thai carry out order this week, my first from Thai Gardens. I really enjoyed their Thai Country Dinner, which consisted of everything I love to order. It included papaya salad, grilled chicken breast, and sticky rice! I also ordered the Ton Yum Shrimp soup and not sure what other yelpers mentioned, but it tasted great to me. Most of the time, restaurants substitute the traditional mushroom used with a white button mushroom. The traditional mushroom does have more of a pungent scent. I love when I go to a Thai restaurant and it is owned and run by Thai people. It makes it feel more authentic! read more

We've pretty much always had a pleasant experience here. My favorite dish is the Popeye Tofu. It's a pretty simple concept--tofu, spinach, and peanut sauce--but their version is AMAZING. The tofu is crispy and flavorful. It's like it has its own flavor. The spinach is fresh. The peanut sauce, orgasmic. And they give you a LOT of it. In fact, I think this is the only time I ever get enough peanut sauce at a Thai restaurant :). Have to give 'em five stars based on this dish alone. Sometimes I get the Tom Kha soup and the Tofu Pad Thai. Tragically, I can't recommend the Pad Thai, it just doesn't measure up--especially compared to the flavor bomb that is the Popeye. It's a bit tart, a bit savory, a hint of other flavors, but in the end, bland. The place has a nice quiet ambiance and good service. One time though, they misheard me and initially served me the Pepper Tofu instead of Popeye. So make sure you enunciate :P. I've never had the smoothies because Coffee Haus, the place with the best smoothies, is just a few doors down. read more

The last few times we've ordered for take out- the times given have been off. "Ready for pick up in 20 Minutes". always became 30 minutes. This time was the worst. "Ready in 30 Minutes" is what the lady said- so I gave them 40 minutes. I arrive 40 Minutes in, she says " 10 more Minutes"... I wait 15 more minutes, "10 More Minutes sir" Over an hour goes by and I ask again" 5 Minutes sir!" For Chicken Pad Thai and Panang??? They made me wait 1 hour and 15 minutes. And I finally got my food, ( it was rushed so it wasn't even cooked together), after I told her that it was absurd.. Never again- there are plenty of Thai places in Schaumburg that deserve my business. Don't Bother. read more

I went here for lunch the other day. I saw they had okay ratings, so I wasn't expecting too much. I still left disappointed. The table had a plastic cover on it that was sticky. If anything screams "not clean here!" that would be it. But I was meeting someone for lunch, so I decided to deal with it. It also took a while to get any service. Everyone was just standing around. We had to ask to order. It was also sticky hot in here... and I am the type of person who is always cold! We both got the lunch special which comes with tom yum soup and an egg roll. The soup was like spicy water with some cabbage thrown in. Not the Tom yum I love. The egg roll was a tiny probably from the freezer version. My dish was pretty good. I got the Curry chicken with fried rice. The fried rice was a pretty lame excuse for fried rice if I have ever seen one. My dining partner did not really enjoy his spicy beef. When we were leaving, we ordered two Bubble Teas to go. I started drinking my Honey Dew Bubble Tea in the car and it tasted off. First of all, they did a crappy job blending it. It did not taste like Honey Dew. Then I got to the tapioca balls and they tasted metallic. I was afraid of getting food poisoning, so I chucked it. I will not be returning here ever! read more

I love Thai Garden! Found them about 20 years ago. We moved to Michigan and make a point to come back here every time we visit relatives. The spicy beef is my favorite. The portions are super large here and quite good to boot. My boyfriend said he comes to this place often so I was down to try it. It's also right next to Coffee Haus, which makes for a good one-two punch of dinner and dessert. Walking into this restaurant, I was pleased to see the more old fashioned appeal of the place. It really felt a bit more authentic than the typical Thai restaurant, and the staff was all very kind. Moving onto the food, I saw that the prices were a bit expensive for my taste, but I was surprised to see that the large portions made up for it. The pineapple fried rice was served in a pineapple and the pad see ew had plenty of noodles to feed me and my boyfriend. The pad see ew really was the star here. Warm, delicious, and flavorful. The fried rice was also quite good but I felt like the pineapple didn't quite balance as well as it could have with the dish. Maybe adding some nuts and a bit more spices would have done the trick? Overall a great place that I'll come back to. Might try something else though. read more

Not great, not terrible. Just so so. I guess I've never had curry before. It always looked and smelled delicious, so I thought I would give it a try. Perhaps it wasn't this restaurant's fault, but I was just not impressed. It wasn't anything spectacular and it just seemed like I was spooning a somewhat-spicy soup over rice. And for the price, it just didn't seem like a valuable meal. I had a lot left over, but I didn't even think it worth taking home for leftovers. My date had some sort of shrimp plate over vegetables, and I think if he had been any hungrier than he was, it would have been severely disappointing considering the price and the tiny size of the entree. read more

First time and last time. Service was extremely slow. To the point were we had to repeatedly go up and ask for assistance. When our food finally arrived we had no plates or utensils, so the waitress said she would be right back. Needless to say, after some time we again had to go up and ask. As for the food, we went with the standard Chicken Pad Thai. I can't really describe the food, except to say that it's the morning after and it's still sitting in my stomach like a rock. We told the waitress the food was mediocre, but she just smiled and said she was sorry. Regarding the slow service, all the manager could say with a little chuckle was, "ahh, I'm sorry, she's sooo slow." We ate less than half of our food and waited for the check. Good place for lunch. We went during the week for lunch, and they have a lot of lunch menu items mostly under $10. The lunch specials come with soup, and egg roll, fried rice and the dish you select. I got the Panang Beef which was pretty good. It has jalapeno peppers and other Thai spices...so it's actually a bit hot. We visited here on a late Friday night and was so glad they opened late until 11pm because my Thai cravings were kicking in and not too many places open for dinner past 10pm. Luckily, this one was and it was nearby. For appetizers, we ordered the Egg Rolls $4.25 was not bad, the pieces were cut in halves. I liked the glass noodles inside and they had this nice savory, sweet dipping sauce which we cleaned out. The Tom Yum soup was $4.95 but the bowl was a bit small for the price. They did have the option to go with a larger size for more money so perhaps that will have to do next time. Also, I asked for mild spice but I should have gone with Hot because it was a bit too mild. Normally, at other places I haven't been given a choice for the level of spicy-ness for the soup so I didn't know what to chose. I chose Chicken as the meat but it's probably better to go with Shrimp next time just to complete the taste. They have many pieces of Chicken but it doesn't quite beat the Shrimp. As for entrees, the hubby and ordered the Pad See Ew $10.45 which was delicious and we finished it all. The Panang Chicken $10.95, came with a rice bowl and was good as well and tasted mild. I could use a little more spice so may try for a Red Curry dish next time. We bagged up the curry because we were so full. For a dinner for 2, our total came out to be $34 before tip so not a bad dinner date. Overall service was polite and courteous and the bathrooms were clean. Went back to try something else, I had the: Tom Yum Vegetable Soup: still great, still fun to look at (See picture). Sweet, tangy, sour, salty, and light. Lad Na Seafood: if you like Chinese Ho Fun this is basically the same thing. Wide rice noodles cooked with squid, shrimp, broccoli, and scallops and covered in this thick gravy. (see picture) It tasted pretty darn good and wasn't short on tasty bits of seafood. Overall I'd up this place from my last review of 3 stars to 3 and a half for consistency in good food. Incredibly flavorful food. I work in the same plaza and among all the restaurants within it, Thai Garden is hands down our sole go-to when stranded at without food. We've all developed a dangerous taste for the spicy fried rice I can't even remember what else on the menu I've had at this point, which isn't much. My only complaint might have to be the pricing/portion. While I will agree with the saying, "you get what you pay for" I'm sometimes left feeling I didn't. Though the flavor is outstanding, I'm sometimes left feeling like i want more because the dishes tend to be heavy on rice and minimal on the substance. At a few dollars more than most Asian restaurant lunch specials, you also get more than just a few bites less. Though I struggle to give this place the 4, I'm a sucker for great flavor. Plus, I've never dined in, so, benefit of the doubt. read more

After living in Thailand for many years, I find it difficult to find acceptable Thai food in America. I typically ask for 3 items: 1. Somtam kai khem (papaya salad with salty egg) 2. Yen Ta fo (a soup with a red colored sour sauce with noodles and seafood) 3. Pad krapow moo or talay kai daw (stir fried basil with pork or seafood, soft fried egg on top of rice) I have never found the first 2 in America over the past 6 months. Today was no different, so I ordered pad krapow moo kai daw. The food was prepared quickly. The portion was meant for 2-3 people so was quite large for one person. It has a little heat, but not enough for me so I asked for Nam Pla with chili, which is fish sauce. That adds spice as well as salt. Helped a lot. The food tasted good and the service was friendly as you would expect in a Thai place. The decor was very thai, many paintings of floating markets and elephants and other Thai scenes. I would like to try this place with more people so we could sample other things on the menu. Recommend to try if you are in the area! read more

We ordered the 'Spicy Fried Rice' which was also marked 'Hot', but we instead got stir fried vegetables in a sweet sause on a bed of white rice. This was neither a fried rice nor a spicy one. When asked, the waitress argued that thats how their spicy sauce is. The description on the menu is deceiving - definitely not a spicy fried rice. Massaman Curry - This was so watery, definitely not peanut based curry and not spicy either. It tasted like vegetables boiled in coconut milk. The waitress said it would be spicy, but this was sweet as well. We also ordered the baby banana rolls for desert. This had the blandest banana i have ever had! This is the standard I hold that food to. I've been going here for 10+ years. Every year during my formative years I would go for lunch on my birthday. My order would always be cashew chicken with fried rice. Its sweet and tasty. Other items i regularly frequent is their Pad Thai (chicken, and vegetarian), Panang Chicken curry, their pineapple fried rice, and heir egg rolls. If I had the time and still lived in Schaumburg I'd try and iterate through every menu item. But for now I must relish in my sub par Thai food within Chicagos city limits. read more
