Without a doubt this place is worth 5 Stars. We heard a lot about this place from friends and colleagues and decided to try it for ourselves. We arrived early for dinner on a Saturday evening, we were surprised just how soon the place filled up. We were greeted by our waiter (Charlie) and we soon placed our order of Egg Rolls for appetizer and Panang Chicken Curry and Chicken Pad Thai for mains. The food service was quick and these dishes were the best we have had since we were last in Thailand, great flavor and the quantity was perfect. It was apparent that this place uses fresh ingredients to get the delicious flavors. We decided to finish our meal with Fried Banana and Ice Cream which was great as well. The best dishes, in my opinion are the chicken or beef pad Thai and my VERY VERY VERY favorite: the yellow chicken curry. (For the yellow curry, they give you enough for 2 meals and it actually makes SUPERB leftovers.) The Thai iced teas are good, but very rich. And for the almost $4 charged, you may only want it for dessert and to share with your dinner partner. They taste closely to an orange creamsicle, but I think it's made with coconut milk instead, so there is a tropical taste. Overall, the Thai House may just be the best restaurant in town. I took my Family here tonight as a pre Christmas meal. I booked the table early. All fine the table was ready. We ordered Starters , They were good, There was 5 of us and a Child. We ordered our main course. My Son asked for a side of the Yellow Curry sauce, Strike one, They said they don't do it as a side. Strike two . The little one had ordered Chicken fingers and Fries. When she tried to eat them , They were rock hard. They would have broke her teeth. Server took them back to redo her order, 10 mins later came back and told us they were out of fries. Meanwhile we were all finished our meals. ( Don't worry she did not go hungry. ) Strike three. They took the cost of her meal off the bill. When i looked at the bill it was for $88, The Girl cashing me out told me it was $116. Told her i don't think so and to check it again. Finally it was sorted. I thought that was a thoughtful and generous gesture. The second time we ate at the restaurant on a recent Friday night, we got there right before they got packed, about 5:30pm. Both times the food was solid. I especially enjoyed the tom kha (coconut milk-based) soup. The curry entree I ordered as medium spicy seemed more like rather spicy, in my opinion, but it was tasty and perfect for warming up on a cold winter night. When we lived in the area, Thai House was our go-to for Thai food. I always got either the green curry or pad kra poa with tofu. They always had a nice kick to them. We always got the cucumber salad, and it too had a nice kick, helped by the jalapenos on top. So I was really looking forward to meeting an old friend for lunch here and enjoying some great food and conversation. Service was slow but friendly (nothing has changed there) but hey, the food should be worth the wait, right? Well, except it wasn't. The cucumber salad is now chunks of cucumber rather than the dainty slices that soaked up the rice vinegar of days gone by. Also, I hardly had any vinegar and there were no jalapeno slices. If I had never had this salad before, I probably wouldn't have thought too much about it, but this was always my favorite part of any meal here in the past. I knew as soon as I saw my lunch plate of pad kra poa with tofu that I was going to be disappointed. It looked a bit thrown together and the sauce wasn't as thick as it used to be. While everything was cooked, it had hardly any spiciness. This dish used to have a really nice heat to it. I don't know what's changed here: perhaps the owner is no longer in the kitchen, but next time I'm in the area and fancy some Thai food, I'll be heading over to Bona Fide Thai instead. read more

Thai House is truly a hidden gem in Bloomington, IL. Bloomington-Normal used to house three to four Thai restaurants. Although it fell somewhere in the middle, once all of the others closed down, they really stepped their game up. Their full menu included new items and the quality of their dishes became divine. Service is always kind and attentive, but wait times on food do take quite some time so be ready to wait. Thai food that is cooked to order takes time and you can taste the time/expertise they put into all of their food. It is well worth the wait. I highly recommend their papaya salad (Thai style), Kuay Chop noodle soup, and Neu Nam Tok (spicy). Honorable mention goes to their Yentafo noodle soup which is so-so. On weekend nights, they give out a condensed, limited menu so they can focus on getting the food out in a timely manner. The restaurant is always packed during this time so expect a 5-10 minute wait to be seated. You can still ask for the full menu but they might not make the dishes for you depending on how busy it is. Therefore, I do recommend coming on a weekday when it is not as busy so you can truly enjoy their menu items as they were meant to be. Only items I would not recommend is their soft-shell crab and their pho. I paid over $12 for two skimpy, shriveled deep fried crabs. Their pho was salty and really dark. Also, the Thai Tea is so-so, a little too sweet. I love this Thai place and I plan on coming here often for years to come. You should too! read more

Food is good but the service sucks. There is no professionalism and they don't honor their reservations. I went there with a party of 14, we were told that the wait time is 20 min, the hostess wrote down my name on the wait list (mine was the only name). After 35 minutes of waiting and no updates, I inquired about our table. The hostess who initially told us 20 min was nowhere to be found. The new hostess behind the counter (an old lady) told us that there is no reservation for us. Then another hostess came and said that we'll have to wait another 35-40 min. When I told her that we have already waited 35-40 min, she starting yelling that "Sir, you have to understand the restaurant business". So we left. Message to the administration: I don't need to understand the restaurant business, you need to understand that if you don't provide service in a timely manner and as promised, customers will walk away. They take reservations, but whats the point of taking reservations when you are not going to honor these? read more

I love Thai House!! Of the three Thai restaurants that opened at the same time, this is my favorite. It was amazing to see what they did with the interior of the old Kip's restaurant. It's one of the most welcoming places in town. I've had pad thai at all three places in town, and Thai House is the best. I also love the mussamun (sweet brown curry) and flip over the green papaya salad (when available). The wonton soup is fresh and delicious and their egg rolls are heavenly! For weeks, I couldn't get the delicious taste out of my mouth, and kept trying to find friends that I could introduce to this family-owned restaurant (an excuse for me to eat it again). In the past couple years, I have made a concerted effort to eat pad thai wherever I go (New York, DC, Chicago), and nothing comes close. This might just be the best pad thai in the nation. This is as close to Thailand as it gets. An old tired joint with extraordinary food burning with flavor, surrounded by photos of the Thai King & Queen, and a few elephants. From the Singha Beer to the traditional Thai dishes...your taste buds will be impressed. If you want to give a classic like Papaya Salad a rest...try the Yam Neau (spicy cold beef Thai salad). It is the best thing on the menu. Warning: Probably best to not go with "Thai spicy"...unless you are Thai. Which I am not. Regular spicy is all most can handle - unless you want to pay for your meal twice. The only thing that would make this place more authentic is if there were a variety of fried insects on the menu, and you were asked if you would like to have a suit made while you eat. Not a place for atmosphere, but if you are looking for one of the best places to eat in BoNo, get there; you will probably love it. read more
