Despite all the negative reviews and critiques about their interior design, there is just something home-y about this Thai Original BBQ on Carson Street. My parents and I still love the Thai Original BBQ with shrimp fried rice and that sweet glaze sauce to dip the chicken strips in. I don't even care what the inside looks like. We ordered two dishes. We got glass noodles with chicken ($8.75) and the chicken ruby dinner ($11.75). We found the food to be very good in both value and taste! The portion size is really good. There was lots of noodles and the chicken ruby is one whole baby hen. We had plenty for our meal as well as leftovers. Both dishes were delicious! The glass noodles were very flavorful. Yelp said they're open til 930 pm on Sunday and even outside the restaurant the hours they operate are displayed but when we got there, the girl that has long hair and with attitude said that they wont allow us to dine in because she said that they're closing at 8pm. I have to say that I have been coming here half my life, but it was not the same during this visit. S-1 was still the same, but the vibe from the restaurant was not like it used to be. The place is not so clean which was a turn off for me. The only reason why I am giving it a 3 is because my son enjoyed the fried rice and he was happy with it. Otherwise, I am unsure if I would come back here to eat. Next time if I am feeling like eating an S-1, I would probably take it to go. Where do I start? Seriously I cannot believe I went against my own policy of trusting other Yelp reviews but this place is not even remotely good. We walk in and the "hostess" is sitting behind a counter and ask "oh do you all want to eat here". That should have been our first hint of not to eat here. Our waitress who happened to be our hostess asked what we would like to eat instead of asking if we were ready to order. Well let's starts with drinks and appetizers. So we rushed and ordered our food and one of asked if something on the menu was good? The waitress said honestly "nobody ever orders that" processing by laughing so of course that was ordered to try it. About 15 minutes later food arrives for two out of three of us. Once we were half way done with our another lady comes out and says oh the special dish you ordered isn't available at all. Ugh what the hell took so long to let us know you didn't have it. So that is strike three and the lady gives us a menu and says "you have to pick something else" ugh what other option do we have? So the vegetable curry was ordered (see pictures and video). The curry was brought out and it literally was frozen vegetables on top of a bed of watered down curry. I have never seen a more watered down meals in my life. Please stay away from this place unless you want a super under par experience and frozen food that is in no way fresh from any kitchen. This place has definitely changed for the better. Although one side is closed, probably for maintenance, the side where the customer is sitting is clean, and the ambiance is pleasant. The staff is nice and very accommodating to the point where I worry that she may burnt out herself because she is too nice. Last but not least, the food. If you're reading this and seeking comments on perfection, then I will say the seafood soup needs a little bit more sourness, that the shrimp fried rice is not cooked to perfection because it is somewhat clingy, and a very small part where the most meat of the chicken is in is dry. You won't get this amount of food for the same price at any other Thai restaurant. Their food is pretty decent. Most of the time, I get the BBQ chicken dinner. The chicken is always really good and never dry. The sauce they give you is my favorite thing on the plate. They used to give more shrimp with the shrimp fried rice, but now they give only 2 pieces with dinner. I've had the wings of angel a few times before. It's not bad, but the minced stuffing is honestly questionable. They tell you what it's made up of, but how do you really know..? The place could use a little upgrade inside but this will always be my favorite go-to-spot for Pork Spare Ribs in Carson. All of their plates come with Shrimp Fried Rice. What I order here all the time is the Thai Bbq Pork Spare Ribs Plate. Served with sweet and sour sauce, they're so addictive and delicious! The ribs are so tender and has this deep flavor. I can never finish it in one sitting because serving is pretty big for one person. I recommend getting their cucumber salad on the side. For a small cup, its $0.25. They put cucumbers, red onions, and jalapeños in the salad. It sounds simple but the sweet and tangy flavor of the vinaigrette just goes so well with the Spare Ribs. read more
