As I write this review -- I am smearing my keyboard with the luscious BBQ sauce that was just on my S-2 (short rib) to-go plate. I can write this whole review based on my love for their fried rice. It is, HANDS DOWN, the greatest concoction of rice ever made. If you want to know what enlightenment tastes like, take their fried rice for a spin. Let's start off with how unappetizing the decor is inside. It seems dirty, dated, and a there is a fish tank with no fish. The hostess was nice however when the older waiter at the time was very rude. The food is also below par. We ordered the BBQ chicken which was dry and they charge for sauce (which you need to attempt at eating the chicken). Their pad Thai also comes with almost no shrimp. This place was a-ok. I went over to TBBQ for lunch with some colleagues and found the place spacey and accommodating. We placed our orders and within minutes got our plates. From pad thai to soup, it was efficient and pretty tasty. Also, if you want meat in certain dishes be prepared to pay extra for it. I prefer my Thai food a little on the sweet side and this is the place that supplies me with the sweet white powder that I call sugar. After numerous attempts at trying to see if I can order a pad see eew with chicken that surpass Thai Original's I always end up going back to the "Original". I love this dish here! The chicken is flavorful and tender. They use regular broccoli for this dish which is ok with me because I somtimes find bok choy to be bitter. The BBQ chicken plate also comes with shrimp fried rice and a sweet BBQ dipping sauce that I sometimes crave out of the blue... (Like right now as I am typing this review). Love this place and right next door to the bowling alley too. The only place I know that carries beef satay (mmm). Every other Thai restaurant I've been to only offers chicken. Came here with the BFF after watching Prometheus at the Chinese 6. Well I got her hooked on Thai food and well we did not want to deal with the crowdiness on Hollywood & Highland. The food was great as always, the only complain I have is their lame fried rice. Don't say it is a shrimp fried rice when you only get 2 pieces, lamers. So the dinner/house specials are always great to get because it is stacked full plate with food. The BFF and I did not even finish our food and luckily we did not get anything else besides pad se ew and we did not finish that either. The service was ok. It took awhile for us to be seated and the place wasn't busy or anything. While you're eating they hardly check on you unless you flag them down if you need any assistance on something. A group of us went here and they accommodated 10 of us easily for just showing up around lunchtime. I had the "Chicken Sate" (many know as satay) plate that came with shrimp fried rice, peanut sauce and a cucumber salad. The chicken was really flavorful and I did like their peanut sauce. Like it's made in vats or something, especially the shrimp fried rice, which is served with EVERY dish and in heaping mounds. It's flavor was okay (I probably would've liked steamed rice better with the satay), but it tasted like day old rice that they disguise in the shrimp flavoring. My cousin ordered steamed rice on the side, and it was a small mound that looked really fresh out of the cooker. Just food for thought. A lady came to serve us 15 minutes after being seated and didnt even ask if we wanted anything to drink. the lady seemed like she barely even wanted to talk. when i asked about one particular dish, she gave me a glare and pointed out the picture in the menu which i had seen earlier- that was her only description. My friend and I ordered pad thai and yellow curry. I don't know what it is about this place that makes this restaurant my family's STAPLE thai restaurant to go to. We've been going to Thai BBQ ever since I was a baby at the LA location and I can't get enough of their S-1 chicken! I might be biased because most thai food places I've been to in my life have such a different menu and Thai BBQ isn't too spicy like real thai food, but whatever they do serve is sooooooo tasty! The chicken is really good and i love dipping into their signature sauce that we even buy the bottle for our home use!!! The beef satay is really tender, my husband loves the dearest crab, and the garlic short ribs (served a la carte) are TO DIE FOR!!! The pad thai is very good and so is the pad see ew. Most of all, my family cannot get enough of their fried rice!!! Yum. We don't even have to look at the menu anymore - we know all the S combos and we're served very quickly!!! The thai iced tea is yummy and the soups are pretty good, too. Only thing i wouldn't eat again is the salad stuff or the egg rolls. I don't eat shrimp, so I always ask for steamed rice instead of the shrimp fried rice which usually comes with it. Order the soup ala tha bar b que. I have worked next door to this place for years now. The staff can be pretty rude, so my co-workers and I don't frequent the place too often. However, when craving pad thai, I will deal with their BS and place an order since the location is so convenient. Today has been BY FAR my worst experience to date. When I had called in my order at 1145, they told me it would take 15-20 mins. Knowing them, I waited a good 30-35 before I showed up. When I did, there was a line of people at the door- some waiting to be sat, others waiting for their orders. NO ONE came up to greet any of us standing there. One customer got so upset that he went to the back to ask about his food. I saw another customer who had been waiting for his check, walk to the back to ask if he can pay his bill. And even another customer ask to see a manager after having sat there for almost 20 mins without having her order taken only a glass of water brought to her. Each time an employee was asked for help or assistance, they were met with disdain by the staff. Now I understand that sometimes the kitchen gets backed up and that the servers get slammed, but to COMPLETELY IGNORE customers who are waiting and then act as if they are bothered when paying customers are asking about the status of their food or checks, is absolutely absurd! If I could give this place zero stars I would. Never have I had such consistently shitty service. read more

I wish Yelp would do 1/2 stars because I'd give this place 1.5 stars. But even that 1.5 is a serious stretch. This is a DUMP and a sad version of better Thai Original BBQs. The only reason I'd give it the extra .5 star is that they have the recipe for the pork and chicken bbq down pat. But I will never come back here again given the abundance of Thai restaurants and other Thai Original BBQs in LA. I guess my husband and I were spoiled by the Thai Original BBQ in Palms/West LA. But the only similarities between that one and the Glendale version are the names and the menu. The Glendale one is in a dumpy little dirty hole in downtown Glendale with crap parking. And the place was filthy! They made no effort to clean the floor after customers leave the tables -- old food bits all over the floor and booths! I spent my entire dinner with my feet on the table legs and not touching the floor. I was so grossed out. And for a place that displays the word "shrimp" several times in its menu, the shrimp doesn't appear quite as often on your plate. Tonight we ordered our usual Tom Yum Goong soup. The broth and mushrooms were good, but the cilantro was old and yellowing and the few shrimp looked pale and barely pink. We also ordered the chicken bbq combo and pork bbq combo, both with "shrimp" fried rice. Each dish came with about a pound of fried rice with exactly 2 little pale, undercooked shrimps thrown on top. I was going to complain but then why would I want more of their barely cooked shrimp that's probably been sitting out in their kitchen for days. On top of that, as other Yelpers have said, the waitresses never checked in on us and the service sucked all around. I had to flag people down several times to get one bottle of soy sauce. The food is tasty. The Low ratings are given because of the very rude and unprofessional employees (ALL the waiters). My favorite dish is the beef S-8. Sometimes I'll also order the combination chow mien (with no mushrooms). The prices are reasonable. Again, the low rating are because of the absolutely rude behavior of the wait staff. I had place an order for takeout so their usually good w/ the timing cuz it really depends on you if you go early and wait or just give it a little extra time. Well depending on the order like the house specials S-1 and so on they are always on point. But I decided to get an entree off the a la cart and went with the crispy duck and the seafood soup w/ coconut milk. Both were pretty disappointing. No crispness to any parts of the duck and it was really dry. The last time I ordered the seafood soup it was really good but since it was carry out I guess it was off this time around. It was watered down like they ran out of coconut milk prior to my order and just watered the can and used that for my soup. I only took one star out cuz I know they'll do better next time. I ate at this Thai BBQ for the first time this past Friday. I came here with about 6 other friends. I have eaten at the Los Angeles locations many time, but this was my first time in Glendale. The parking is not the greatest. I didn't have an issue finding a spot because I was one of the first ones there and I showed up prior to the dinner rush. However others in the party had a difficult time finding parking. They have a lot with some spaces, but it fills up rather quickly. The service is great. They are well staffed and everyone is friendly. They are attentive and seem like they enjoy their work. Our drinks were always filled and they consistently checked to make sure everything was OK. The food is great. The S-1 and S-2 special are what I normally order. They are Thai BBQ chicken and Thai BBQ ribs. Both are equally delicious, served with either meat and some fried rice. However, on this particular visit I ordered the Shrimp Scampi dish served on top of fried rice. This dish was also very good. The shrimp was perfectly cooked in a sauce and some garlic. My family and I have been going to this location since I was like 11 years old. However, over the years this placehas been going downhill, and it makes me sad! The Thai food is admittedly tailored to the tastes/expectations of clientele-- Filipino families, older people, generally no one Thai. I can accept and understand thus, as regular Thai food can be spicy for most people! But they have started bumping the prices up on a regular basis, while taking away items! I laughed sadly when MY MOM (who loves this place) pointed out that they recently started removing a leg from their chicken BBQ plate. I also saw them, over the years, go from cloth placemats and napkins to paper ones (maybe an economic or green choice?!). Some of the servers don't crack a smile, but never get the order wrong and are attentive... Good enough for me. If you take the plunge, the shrinmp fried rice has a great sweetness I like and the sauce is crack to most familiar with the brand. Came here for the first time and tried a few dishes... 3 of us ordered thai teas and the color of all 3 teas was different. One had too much tea, one had too much milk, and the other was just right. Consistency... Anyways, the food was O-K. The pad se-ew was actually cooked very well and was my favorite dish of the night. Pad thai was... standard. Then I also tried the S-1 and S-10 and sadly, both the chicken and ducked were overcooked and dry. The sauces that they came with also tasted out of a bottle and too salty. It was between Ocha & Thai Original BBQ...Thai Original BBQ won, mostly because we were too lazy to go out of our way. The food is just plain ok. The fried rice was simple. No bells and whistles there. The beef broccoli broth had a good flavor, my brother seemed to enjoy it. The pad see ew was tasty, definitely filled my craving, but lacked a little something. Not sure what though. The fried spring rolls were nothing to write home about, but the sweet and sour sauce more than made up for it. So yeah, just ok. Then again, I didn't try their BBQ. Duh! I was very impressed by their customer service, however. They nicely accommodated a group of 13, were nice enough to split our checks, got our orders right, were patient with the indecisive ones, and were nice about it in the process. Thanks for that!
