Well, on to the food. The S1 never disappoints..pretty consistent. The soup was just OK. I noticed the faster service. Oh that cute waitress that took my order... The 'only challenge with this place really is the parking which is limited. I parked in a spot designated for another business, just a bit nervous I would get towed. But, all was well. Saturday night, restaurant crowed, and my order was ready within 10 minutes. Though this place may not be as good as the original location on 3rd St., Los Angeles, I am still a fan. Our family has been going here for years and this place never disappoints. On our latest visit, we ordered the Thai chicken BBQ, the veggie delight, the pad see ew, and the combination fried rice a la carte and they were immediately given to us ten minutes later. When I come here with my significant other, we usually get s-1 and s-2 and half the meat with each other so we both get a little of both. We don't share rice since we both love their fried rice. Decided to try this place as I was craving some satay. This restaurant did not live up to the previous reviews. Ordered the S-8 and was underwhelmed. The shrimp fried rice as they call it, had 2 small shrimps and the flavor was odd to say the least. Somewhat ketchupy taste as previous reviewers mentioned, but not in a good way. Chicken satay was 8 well cooked skewers, but not as flavorful as i've had at other places. Peanut sauce was very watery instead of a thicker consistency. Wait staff was adequate but barely that. We I picked it up, I went straight back home without checking it because it was secured in a brown paper bag. I finally got to try this place that my coworkers have been raving about and gone many times without me since I had other things to do. I would give this place 3.5 stars compared to all the other Thai restaurants in LA, but when comparing to other Thai restaurants in Glendale I would give it a solid 4 stars. I think this place has much better Pad Thai than Thai in LA which is located on Brand. I also got to try the BBQ chicken with fried rice which I didn't think was all too special and was maybe even on the dry side. Beef satay come to MAMA!! I love this place. I used to be a frequent customer back in the day, but I've cut back from going to this location. I don't know why though, I was here the other day and it felt like I was in a time warp... the food is still delicious, the service is still efficient, and WHOAA! that lady who used to serve us back in the day is still here!! I have been coming here for over 4 years now and only last week, did I realize that I have only ever order the S-8 or Chicken Sate Dinner. You get about 8 skewers of grilled chicken and about 2 cups of rice. Wash that down with a frosty beverage and you got a nice lunch that drops your work efficiency by 60%. My parents hate this location. They tried it when we first moved to Glendale waaay back when, and have never come back. I, on the other hand, am not that picky. Yes, I did grow up eating the one here in K-Town, and yeah, to some extent, I think the Glendale one doesn't match up, but it doesn't exactly suck elephant turd to me either. We usually get to-go here, ordering over the phone on the way home from work and picking it up before heading home. Food is always ready when they say it is, and (knock on wood) they've never gotten our order wrong. Service is always nice, even when we do eat there. Parking could be better. We have met up here for the occasional birthday and it does get pretty packed, so I can see how that's a downer for some. Deserves 4 not 3 because it's not that bad, but gets 4 instead of 5 because of parking & that the other locations do taste a little bit better. Took my order incorrectly and when I told them that my order is incorrect, the server was argumentative. Took my order back to the kitchen and came back with the corrected order that look sketchy. Never came back to refill our water or check if we received all our orders or if we need anything else. Never came back if we need boxes to go or our check. I've lived in this area for quite a while and Thai Original BBQ is definitely the place I go to satisfy my Thai craving. The parking lot is really tiny, so make sure you go before rush hour if you want a spot, otherwise you'll have to circle around for quite a while or street park. Now to the food... I personally ordered the Pad Thai, Pad-See-Ew, and the Shrimp Fried Rice. In order, the Pad Thai has never disappointed! Its the typical noodles with a peanut based sauce. It comes with ground up peanuts you can mix into the dish as well. The Pad See Ew is also a good choice. It's very oily with tons of msg packed into it! But it is very yummy! ( but not suggested for the weak of stomach ) The fried rice is a the a normal dish, nothing too special about it. If anything, I'd suggest getting the Thai Coffee! It's not free refills, so make sure you don't use it to guzzle down the food! P.S. The service is and always has been HORRIBLE. My measure of good Thai food always starts with the Pad Thai Noodles. It passed the test. The ingredients have that home made taste to it. The only thing was, the tofu they put in it had a little bit of a spoiled taste to it. I don't know if it was just the way they marinated it or what. But, I did not get sick after eating it, so it could have just been the pungency of the marinade. The other thing was it was a little too savory. They could tone down the fish sauce a little bit. The negatives - it really could use a makeover both inside and out. The interior looks run down, the furnishing looks like it could be from the '70s. From the outside it looks like it could be a taco shop. Parking also sucks! The pricing also seems suspect, but after eating the food, if other dishes are equally good in ingredients and taste then maybe it is justified. We were passing through San Bernardino and we decided we were going to stop at Glendale for some delicious Thai bbq so we got off the 134, went through like 8 different stop lights, and finally arrived to be surprised that there was very limited parking, we went in and ordered 2 plates of bbq chicken, ribs and fried rice. After a 4 hour trip from San Diego we decided to take a stop here in Glendale to try the bbq. Starting with the rice, I believe that the rice had a very good flavor in it, it was not soggy at all, and neither was it salty. The bbq chicken was very juicy and great, the chicken was not burnt at all and neither was it uncooked, the chicken was very soft and not hard at all. I tend to stick to the beef sate plate (S-8), pork spare ribs plate (S-2), or bbq chicken plate (S-1) and get my food to-go. The shrimp rice is my favorite. The tom yum goong with seafood is also really good. Prices are decent. Don't come here expecting amazing service because you probably won't find it. My personal favorite, the beef sate (skewers of beef with peanut butter sauce), is a "can't go wrong for the first time trying this place" entree. I don't know why but peanut butter sauce and meat mix. The pad thai is good as well. Sweet and seasoned right. The fried rice is fluffy and not too oily. A little too much milk in the Thai iced tea but that might be a good thing for some of you. My friend had the honey roasted duck and he loved it. In general this place has awesome food. I went here with a group of 9 for late lunch on a Sunday. It was not that crowded and we were seated immediately. I would normally get pad thai..but i wanted to be adventurous and try the bbq chicken because that seemed to be the house special.. I got a plate of that a la carte and I shared a shrimp fried rice with honey duck with my friend. The honey duck was sort of fatty..had a lot of excess tendon and skin on it, but for the most part...it tasted like pulled pork almost. The shrimp fried rice was bland and it was very moist..sticky like..and so it didn't have much to offer. My chicken was good..but what bummed me out was that it wasn't realy moist. It tasted fine..but the dry part really made me have to chew it down so i could swallow it. The sauce that it comes with is good and i had to dip a lot in order to moisten the chicken up. I tried Thai BBQ even though I've been enjoying Classic Thai in Eagle Rock for almost 2 decades now, based on recommendation from my Filipino clients. Chicken Bbq (S1) doesn't even come close to the texture and taste of Classic Thai's chicken Bbq. The sweet and sour soup seems really like the dish with water in it. We ordered by phone and it's so hard to understand the person talking on the other side. I had to keep repeating what I said I almost hang up. When my daughter went to pick the order, parking was tough to find.
