The guys waiting tables seemed nice at first but as I was ordering my food, a couple walked in and both waiters dropped me faster than a fat kid chasing an ice cream truck. Really good food and what I will call a "classic" atmosphere. Although it is somewhat spendy, you will not find good Thai food anywhere else near here. The menu is typical, and they were totally fine making a dish with tofu for me, rather than meat. There is a full bar, although I did not have a cocktail, so I can't say how good they are. I visited Royal Thai Restaurant for the first time today and walked out very impressed! I ordered my favorite Thai dish, "Panang curry". It was made medium spicy per request and tasted great! My girlfriend ordered the "Pad Thai", which was also very tasty. The staff was very courteous and very attentive during our entire meal. I would recommend anyone who enjoys Thai food or just food in general to make a visit to Thai Restaurant, you will not be disappointed. I want to like this place but I'm not a fan. It's too expensive and I've never liked anything I've gotten there. I had the yellow curry once and it was watery and so bland. Best Thai food I've found in Baltimore. It's an unassuming spot from the street, but has a beautiful, old-fashioned charm on the inside. The service is excellent. I guarantee you'll be charmed by the servers. Their descriptions of the day's specials border on performance art. But the food is the real star here. Excellent quality, flavorful and authentic. The dishes veer towards the spicy end of the spectrum but the customer is given a lot of control. The server will ask you how spicy you want it on a scale of 1 to 5. If it's your first time, or if you're sensitive to heat, err on the side of caution. As everyone says, the drunken noodles are excellent, as are their curries. I prefer their pad thai over anywhere else I've had in the city, but that's a matter of taste. I've never had anything I didn't love here. Highly recommended. read more

I grew up right around the corner and have been coming here for years! This place is delicious. My favorites are: the pad Thai w tofu, deep fried spring roll, the whole fresh fish w sweet and sour sauce, drunken noddles, and Thai iced tea! Was close by and walked over for a weekday lunch. I had the place to myself. Nice decor, owner (I assume) was very attentive and friendly. I had summer rolls, Pad Thai, and coconut and mango ice cream for dessert. Everything was great. Portion size was excellent. 3 courses for $25 and I'll be able to have just a light dinner tonight. I have been eating Thai from here since I lived in Charles Village. I always have an enjoyable experience whether it is eating in or taking out. The owner, Billy, is awesome! He will suggest new dishes and never forgets you as a customer. The Pad Thai, Larb, soups and curry dishes are the best in my opinion. There are a lot of stir fry options on the menu as well. Don't forget to get the Tom Yum Gai soup! It is incredible and is just as good an elixir as Matzo ball soup when you have a head cold. read more

Very rude! The owner is not very nice and lets you know that he doesn't care. The food is actually good, but the portions are small and overpriced. It's a shame that the service is so bad! I took two friends here and the waiter is extremely rude. This is my friend's first visit here and they had a very unpleasant night here.

The environment was beautiful. The food and drinks were delicious. My only complaint would be that it is understaffed. If you're not in a rush, this isn't a problem. It's remote, quiet, and a low key place to eat. read more

I have been looking for a new thai place since My Thai was closed because of the fire on charles street and I must say it was pretty good. I'm a sucker for pad thai and I really liked their version. I like it crazy hot and they accomodated my need for fire. Most places say they will make it very hot but are too scared to actually do it. The service was good. The thai iced tea and thai iced coffee were a little sweet for my liking but still good. A little pricey when all was said and done but I was happy. Stopped here on a Saturday for lunch. The place was totally empty. Very interesting decor; traditional I guess. I placed my order of pad thai with vegetables to go. My food was ready in 10 minutes. I freakin love thai food so I was expecting to have a nice time. I had high hopes when we walked in and were initially waited on. I can't believe how this place could ever be "the best thai food in the city". All their awards are at least 10 years old. I recommend Tie one on in towson or thai landing in mount vernon over this place. the realistic reviews are buried underneath 5 star ones. the owner was fake nice but was deceptive about his dishes and recommendations being "fresh" and his son...woah...clearly he should not be serving/interacting people. he is a bitter bitter man. he dropped stuff on the floor while serving us and clearly didn't care. he basically dropped the food in front of us with little regard. Later, we found an error in the bill and asked the owner who asked his son who said very loudly "well obviously I made a mistake, Jesus!" in front of everyone. someone wrote a review about his bad attitude and that was 2015! Please, if you are not happy with your life, get out and do something else. I've been there. the appetizers we got were pretty good...but the meat from the entrees was old and clearly masked with being fried and with spices. I ordered duck with green curry and let the old man owner talk me into getting the duck special with green curry on the side which was a big mistake..it was basically some old duck fried up with some sad little green curry veggies. We had 2 appetizers and 2 entries, 1 soda and 2 beers that came to $82 before tip. I couldn't believe it when I saw the check. I can't understand why this place had good reviews. Few months ago, stopped by at lunch time to ask about vegetarian dishes and the owner was snooty to me, so i left. This month(Jan 2011), took a friend there for his birthday dinner since it was cold and we did not want to walk far. Thai Restaurant is a warm and friendly place to find yourself any day of the year. The waitstaff is quickly and friendly without being over assertive and the food is rich and tasty. My favorite part of Thai food is crispy noodles, but the honey duck that's often found on special frequently tempts me. The curry always gets rave reviews, no matter what kind. This is more of a four-and-a-half star review. The only weaknesses are the location and last time my dinner wasn't quite as warm as I would have liked. Ok, I have to admit, their curry dishes are super tasty, especially their green curry with shrimps. However, when it comes to whether to go back to this restaurant and how often, there are many other factors to consider. First, this place is way overpriced. A tiny little bowl of curry costs $17. Second, the neighborhood is really sketchy. Just give you an idea of the location, this restaurant is located in one of the worst areas in Baltimore - Greenmount ave. Like a few others here, I had high hopes for this restaurant. It's the nearest Thai restaurant to my residence, and for that reason I really wanted to like it. But I couldn't. For starters, the appetizer and main course put me at around $22. Ouch. It might have been worth it if it was outstanding. But the tofu curry dish I had seemed as though the tofu was thrown in at the last second - the tofu had no flavor at all. As to the rest of the dish, while there was spice, there was no flavor. My appetizer, veggie dumplings, were drowning in a sweet sauce, wilting from the sadness of it all. I may give it one more try, but my suspicion is that this restaurant just doesn't do vegetarian. So, if you're on omnivore, it may turn out well for you. If not, save yourself some money and disappointment and try another place. read more

Why does this place get good reviews over and over again? The first time I ate here was over 6 or 7 years ago, having been taken here by friends who raved about how good it was...and, I am pretty sure, even back then, I was not impressed. I moved away, and upon finding myself back in Baltimore, looking for good Thai food, I gave this place another try, since Yelp reviews have helped me find some good eats in most cities. Well, I went for lunch on a Sunday, and have to say...it sucked! Their duck special for a little over $22, during lunch, mind you, was dry...how does one cook duck so that all the fat has dried out?...and, how can duck taste dry when it was bathed in a bland, out-of-the-can red curry. I hate to send food back, so we tried to ask for the "honey sauce" that was also an option...the waiter came back with a little bowl of honey, right out of the jar. The other dish we got, I cannot even remember, because that's how unmemorable it was. Worst of all, we ended up paying a little over $80, for a sub par lunch for two. Go to Thai Yum for lunch, where you get an appetizer free with your entree that averages about $10...though, it's not the best Thai food I've had, you can eat there three times over and be 100% more satisfied then having spent time and money at Thai Restaurant. read more

Went here for first time last night with a large group, and it lived up to the hype. Favorites were drunken noodles, rice pudding and homemade ice creams (pumpkin, coconut). Tom yum koong didn't have the nip I was expecting. Proprietors were awesome and promised to make some gai tod if I call ahead. All in all, very pleased. read more

Pad Thai was ok, but not the best we've had. Pass on the Tofu soup though. We did pick up, so I can't comment on the service other than to say the order was complete, double checked and ready on time. Mango sticky rice was good to finish off the meal for sure though! read more
